OK. So I was getting bored with the gray icons in the settings menu so I decided to change them up. First thing that came to mind was the TouchWiz icons, so I pulled the icons from there to use in CM.
So this is for CM7 only and to install just push the apk to /system/app/
To install through adb type:
adb remount
adb push "Drag file here" /system/app/Settings.apk
OR with root explorer:
1. Copy the apk to your sdcard
2. With root explorer move the apk to /system/app/
Hope you enjoy (its my first real upload, and its not much)
Ohhh and I'm not responsible for anyone bricking theirs phones or who need a wipe because of this, although I don't really see how that is possible... lol
Something is wrong with the display button in settings. It force closes once you hit brightness.
Hmmm... let me look into it...
works great in my lg gt540 ! But don't forget to reboot your phone.
Maybe I'm missing something but I did what u said but it bricked my phone. I used root explorer to put the apk in system/app and it copied over the stock system.apk, rebooted and the phone was bricked.
I was able to reflash in recovery and the phone is fine now but I tried a bunch of other ways and I can't install the touchwiz settings... What am I doing wrong?
Sent from my HTC Vision with CM7-RC4
I got it to work finally.
I copied the apk over the stock apk with Root Explorer, mounted R/W, changed the persmisions for the new settings apk (i allowed all), mounted R/O, rebooted and it worked.
Thanks the colored settings are really awesome!!!
FC's on wireless & networks setting
i flashed the latest cm7 version for my milestone
and added this aswell after but when i click on wireless & networks it FC's =[
Alright, didn't find anything related to this elsewhere, so I'm putting it here:
My Bionic is running on 5.9.901, rooted, no issues. I changed the ro.product.manufacturer and ro.product.model values in my build.prop temporarily to test something. Rebooted and the following apps started force closing: Titanium Backup, Swype (latest beta, not built in), Wifi Tether (GoogleCode version, latest alpha), and Flikie Wallpapers HD.
I figure ok, change what I did back to stock and reboot. That should fix the problem.
Nope. These same apps are still force closing on my. Now, here's the twist; I've removed and reinstalled each one with the same results. Somehow, modifying those two variables in my build.prop has changed something that is keeping these apps (and ONLY these apps) from installing/running properly.
Checking the stack traces from the app crashes, Titanium Backup indicates it's unable to find a file located within /data/data/com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup/files. Upon inspection, the entire directory under /data/data for TB contains nothing, even after reinstall. Permissions for /data and /data/data are set to 771. This is as far as I've gotten and I don't know what direction to go next.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
EDIT: Forgot to put in here that I've already tried running fix permissions from the bootstrap and that didn't change anything.
EDIT 2: Update. Figured out why the apps are force-closing. For some reason, when they're being reinstalled, the lib files (with the .so extension) are not being created in /data/data. If I open up the APK and copy the .so files to their rightful places, the app will then work fine. If, however, I remove and reinstall again, same thing happens. Something has changed, but I'm unable to figure out what and nothing logical makes sense at this point. Now that TB is working, I might just try a factory reset.
how do you edit build.prop? i have a droid bionic and used rom toolbox to tweak the lcd density and i think it messed something up. i am unable to install pandora or aim as it says my device is not compatible.
Hi I just took out the apk for go sms then changed the android smileys in 7-zip on windows, I changed the icons to 24 x 24 pixels png files. Then put the apk back on my phone, into data/app on my phone memory. It copies fine changed the permissions, but the app won't run, I even tried installing the apk, but it says application not installed after trying. What am I doing wrong?
sorry figured it out, had to change the owner of the app in root explorer for it to work :-D
Sir, howd you change owner? what should i choose? ive tried to change but it says it cant change.. i wanted to replace go sms icon.
Does this apk have to stay in system/app to function properly? When i got root, 1st thing i did was delete the system apks of all the updated apps, play store worked for a while, did some automatic updates and im pretty sure i browsed on it, later i pressed the add small app icon in the multitask menu and when downloading one, it crashed and would continually crash upon opening until i moved the apk back in to system/app, anyone know anything?

No you can delete it without a problem. You can look at it like a setup.exe file after you installed the program you can delete it. But since it's a system ap it might work different, why delete it in the first place? It barely saves space.

housekeeping i suppose, it will only update to the data/app anyway, having duplicates would just bug me. Its back in data now and behaving normally, dont know what caused the problem before.
Update: Crashed again when trying to download an update, staying in system
I have an issue that is bugging me like crazy. I apply a theme and everything stays that way until I reboot, where it reverts back to a previous theme that I deleted a long time ago! It even does this if I choose the default theme.
I tried re-installing the offending theme and then deleting it, as I thought maybe there was something left behind in a cache. But no luck.
Does anyone know exactly where the theme files are stored on the device? Or has anyone else had this issue? It's a real pain re-applying the theme every time I reboot.
.
My S6 edge does the same but it reverts to the default theme.
