The fingerprint sensor on this seems to go through the same mood swings as women during "lunar phases". Sometimes it works so well, I just scrafe my finger by accident while taking out phone and it unlocks. Other time, I take my time to place my fingers, trying it at different angles, I wait for password backup to revert back to fingerprint and try again and it just doesn't want to let me pass.
I've realised over time that any fingerprint issues are strictly related to unlocking the screen (might be related to other stock functions but I don't use those). I use 2 apps that process the fingerprints by themselves, FingerSecurity and LastPass. Both of those apps work flawlessly. I tried everything to try and reproduce any issues with the scanning, but they just always work.
I know there are a few app that can also allow you to unlock phone using finger, but i'm worried they are much less secure than using a Samsung implemented system.
Would anybody have any suggestions that would allow to replace the stock unlock by a 3rd party while keeping a reasonnable level of security?
Bump.

Had my S8 plus for about a month now. Every 2-3 days or so, the fingerprint sensor stops working just randomly. Will work perfectly, then just out of nowhere, doesn't respond to anything. Disabling fingerprint security and re-enabling doesn't fix it. Trying to go into applications- system apps- fingerprints, and trying to force close it won't work as it's grayed out. The only thing that works to get it working again is a restart. Not the end of the world I know, but having to restart it at the most inopportune times is kind of annoying. And paying this much for what amounts to the top of the line phone on the market right now, and having one the most important functions just stop working all the time is crap. And no I don't want to use the iris scanner, or pin, or pattern security. I want to use the fingerprint sensor.
Searches around the web indicate this is pretty common. Anyone else on the VZW S8 or plus having this issue? Anyone know if a fix is coming down the pipeline? I'm pretty sure this would be a software issue as it works 85% of the time and a simple restart gets it working again.

Some other threads on XDA have said that disabling fingerprint scanner gestures fixes it. I haven't ever used those and I have never had a problem with the sensor. It isn't as good as the sensor on my Moto Z Force Droid was, but it is pretty good.

Yeah, I disabled that last night. Waiting to see if that works or not. Just thought I would post in the Verizon specific forum to see if any other Verizon users are having this issue. Pretty sure it's a software issue, and am just curious about differences between the Verizon software and other carrier specific software.
Always had the gestures disabled and I have noticed this, but it always goes away with time for me. I thought it was just because I was sweaty at the gym, but it doesn't even know that I am attempting to use the scanner. Then, it happened outside the gym. Goes away in just a couple minutes, thought it was just me.
It seems that the fingerprint scanner is more reliable when the screen is off than it is when the lockscreen is on looking for iris scan.
Hi I bought a Xiaomi Mi9 not even a month ago.
These days I found a really annoying problem, my Mi9 unlocks itself in my pocket. I state that I have done all the possible tests, that is with and without double tap, with and without unlocking via mi band4, with and without lifting option, password, fingerprint and face detection. Trying various combos (thinking that maybe some of them would conflict with each other) I arrive at the same conclusion. Start the emergency keypad on your own, or if I receive notifications it even opens me up or I find myself navigating through my apps.
This is the main problem.
I have found other problem, like if I talk at the phone, I put the auricle in the right ear, everything is ok, while if I move it in the left ear I no longer feel anything. (proximity sensor
defective ultrasonic?)
Another problem that perhaps seems to have solved was that of bluetooth devices, the saved devices menu was missing. With a reset I fixed the problem at the time.
The fingerprint detector every 10 attempts, 3-4 never go through if the screen is in total standby, while if you wake up the screen in any way and then use the fingerprint it always works.
The most important thing I would like to solve is that of unlocking in my pocket, it particularly bothers me. I read that in June they had to fix this option, optimize it, but apparently it doesn't seem improved. I know that here the pocket mode is automatically inserted compared to other devices. But apparently it doesn't work at all.
I have the device correctly updated.
Help me discover something more or at least solve this problem and sorry for my bad english i'm italian boy =P

Ciao,
I've got exactly the same problems, someone please let us know if there is a proper solution out there!
Thanks

Hi
Which firmware, rooted or unrooted?
I can recommend to root and use firmware of xiaomi.eu
If you have the latest firmware with pocket mode included your only two options to fix the pocket unlocking’s are: 1. Get at flip cover. 2. Delete all fingerprints and use another unlock option like face recognition or so. This will also get you noticeably better battery hours.
The speaker problem I think is a problem with the position. It is very critical that you put the tiny speaker hole exactly in front of your ear opening, a couple of millimetres aside will make the sound almost silent. This is if you by feel mean hear. Try to hold the phone at an angle out from you face with the upper part pointing to your ear and move the phone up and down to se if you can hear better.

Let me suggest a fix for the fingerprint issue.
Turn off the show "fingerprint on lockscreen option"
There really isn't a pocket mode for the mi9 because of the in-display fingerprint reader
About the "unlocking in your pocket" issue, I think you should try a different unlocked method, maybe a password to see if it's still there, and also ensure you don't have "On body detection" enabled in settings.
where did you buy it?

No, I bought it from an official seller of Xiaomi Hellas (Greece)
On my Mi 9T Pro, face unlocking has been very problematic, as I found out that my brother can also unlock my phone. This obviously does not speak to the face unlock's security, as I do not even look that alike to him. When I tried re-adding my face several times it continued to have the same problem, even when I went outside in the bright light to set it up, my brother could still unlock it. I have since disabled it as this likely means it is unlock-able to anyone with a similar face or even a piece of paper.
This is the case with all camera based face unlocking.
Not really, have tried the same with galaxy s8 camera face unlocking, and it doesn't have this issue. I don't think this should have been put in this phone if it as insecure as it seems.

Well there are some differences. Here and many phones are only using a cheap 2d image recognition method, which i would say is mostly only an unsecure gimmick.
additional security would use 2 cameras for a 3d face recognition. Still not as good as a fingerprint lock, but already pretty robust.
with an extra infrared projector it is also possible to recognize faces in the dark or in too bright places for regular camera images.
Here is a more indepth explanation

Hi,
I'm having a problem with my Galaxy Note 9. I just recently updated to the latest firmware which is N960FXXS5DTE2 Security
Patch 1 May 2020 and noticed that when my phone is locked, the fingerprint sensor is acting on its own. Then I get a message saying there have been 5 or more attempts to unlock the device. I tried a factory reset, still the same and also tried the sensor test which gave a PASS to all the tests.
Is it a software glitch? Anyone has this problem also?
IDK if this will help but try turning off Battery Optimization for the Samsung Biometric app. (Forgot exact app name, its something like that). I was having an issue with mine and doing this fixed it but can't guarantee it will work for you.
already disabled most of the optimizations but the fingerprint scanner acts on its own constantly. You have another suggestion?
