Mix shut off on its own, won't power on. - Xiaomi Mi MIX Questions & Answers

Got my mix like 1 month ago. Stock miui and recently updated it to 8.5.4.0. No mods or unlocking the bootloader or anything like that.
Today, it was at 11% so I plugged it in the charger. 5 minutes in I looked at it and it wasn't charging, so I unplugged it and then it turned off before I could plug it back in.
Now it won't turn back on, the charging light won't light up. It looks dead.
I haven't dropped it or spilled any liquids on it. It wasn't exposed to extreme heat or cold and has a case around it at all times.
WTF happened? $650 down the drain?
What are some tricks I can do to try to save it.

I had a similar problem a week ago. Battery went dead and I plugged in the charger. But I discovered after an hour that it didn't charge. I tried turning on the phone, only response was a quick flashing red light. Tried different chargers, tried holding down the power button for a long time, tried the different butto combinations, no luck. Then I just left it in the charger, and after several hours I finally got a response from my beloved Mix. I took a long time to fully charge, but now it is working normally again. Phew! No idea what went wrong. But keep trying and hoping. Good luck!

To the original poster:
Has the phone powered on now? The same thing happened to me too.
My Xiaomi Mi Mix showed low battery sign so I plugged it in to charge. The phone immediately went off. I pressed the power button to restart it, it showed the Xiaomi logo then immediately went off and since then (this was 2 days ago) it has not powered on.
Kindly note the following:
1. It didnt have water spilled on it
2. It didnt fall or have any mechanical damage
The only thing was, the battery was low, I plugged it in to charge and it went off and never came on again. I have used the same charger to charge other phones so I doubt if the charger is the source of the problem.
Kindly help, what is wrong with the phone?
thanks

Plug into PC and leave over night, hopefully the third party charger hasn't fried anything.

You could try unplugging battery overnight, watch a tare down first. It's not hard, I would be surprised if you have done any damage.

I havent tried any self repairs or anything funny yet the phone has remained dead.
What can I do now? This is extremely saddening

Mine just did this. My resolve was to hold down the volume up button and then plug the phone in. It should boot into recovery (down for bootloader) and from there reboot into system. I seems for some reason the bootloader is not allowing the phone to charge. You need to get around it.

Happened on mine in the first day. I even thought like why I bought a pos Chinese device. After 30 mins charging, it's started booting by power on button as it's supposed to be. Weird thing.

My Xiaomi Mix won't turn back on
this happened to my xiaomi mix yesterday. I was using it during dinner. Suddenly the screen wouldn't come on, flashed a bit, then shut down. I was able to hard reset it once. After that, the phone just died. and won't come back on. What do I do?
Please note: the battery was almost full. Did not drop it or get water in it.

Battery will need to be unplugged overnight, in the morning plug it back in, it won't boot or charge at this stage, leave on charge for a few hours maybe upto 12 after that it will be fine.

So I'll need to let the phone's battery die first, then full charge it again and it should work again?

No you need to disconnect it, that means removing the cover which is easy, just watch the teardown on YouTube

Thanks so much for the help. I tried that but unfortunately it didn't work. I did feel a slight vibrate when I tried to power it on though.

I think it's a charging issue, swap charger and cable.
Does pc recognise the phone

Have the same issue. During charging and watching youtube, it turned off. No signal since then.
Changed charger, tried PC... Also disconnected battery and charging for more than 24h.
Now have a new battery and USB board and no signal
Any idea how to get the data from it?
Thanks

[Q] Completely drained external/internal battery?

I've looked all over. And I've tried everything.
This is what happened to my Xperia. it was 29% before I went to bed. When I woke up the next day, it was completely dead. No lights, no anything. I've tried charging it for 24 hours, I've tried charging the battery through an external charger, I've waited 2 days to power it on again. I've also tried that hard reset trick on one thread here. No go. I'm frustrated. Does anyone know any way this could be fixed and why did this happen?

Is it possible for the battery to just die like that without any warning? My battery was okay before this problem. I've tried it with an external charger and it charges.
It could be the charging circuit itself.
I recall a similar thing happening to me on another HTC phone, sorry I can't recall the details (but it was beyond my skills to repair it, and it was an old phone by then). A friendly technical centre could help you with that diagnosis.
At least you can get a desktop charger that will charge the battery up without it having to be inside the phone , if that is the case.

I've tried charging without the phone. External charger or desktop charger. Doesn't work either.
Sounds weird, but did you try to hold down the power button for a few seconds to let x1 on? Sometimes I have that too when the battery goes empty and the phone goes off. It doesnt open immediately when I press the button, but have to hold down the power button for a few seconds and than release. Try that for about 5 times. If noting happens, than its not the same problem that I have.

Usually I get around 2-3 days of battery backup(on standby). Now my xperia is not switching on. Can anyone suggest some solution for our problem...I am now charging the battery using wall charger, but i dont see any battery charging notifications.
Please help guys,

Battery Issue - Unable to boot after 0%

My phone has water damage. I currently have it in a bag of rice to hopefully bring it back to life. After a few hours I plugged it in to see if that would help, and I it had a strange activity. The LED in the phone handset was lit and green. I never rooted it to enable the LED. Any advice would be great!
PS: Sorry if this post is not the most coherent. I am currently very hungover, and having problems functioning. Also, I have no idea how my phone got wet! Happy Sunday to me!
Try a battery reset
The Dirtydee Z3
The led turns on when the battery is so low that the display can't turn on to show that its charging.
Device should turn on after sometime

As @adity said above, the LED turns on when your battery is too low to turn on the screen.
Charge it for some time.

Testing that now. Thanks for the heads up!
Fingers (and toes) crossed!!
You should've let it rest on rice for like one day.
On the good side, the moto x is kind of water proof.

*Update*
The screen is now on and showing 0% battery. It has been plugged in for hours now with no change in level. I was able to get into FastBoot, however any option I choose results in the phone rebooting back to the battery charge level screen.
Thanks for the help!
*Update 2*
I plugged my phone into my cars 2.1 amp charger and after 20min or so it showed 100% battery. The phone booted, however it did not complete and turned off. When it did It read 0% once more. I have tried volume down and power for 3 mins with no result. Any more tips?
* update 3*
I pulled the back over off and held the battery ribbon down. LIFE!! Phone displayed 100% and it was running fine. However, when I removed it from power it shut off immediately.

I thought so too. I let it charge over night while it was cycling the boot screen, and when I awoke it was perfect. Battery 100% and turned on without issue. I understand letting your battery hit 0% is bad, but having it completely malfunction for 24+ hrs is rather poor play on Motorola's behalf.
How do you know that it's moto's fault?
Perhaps there was still some water left in your device?
This took longer to dry and caused the malfunction...
Don't judge so quickly!
I tell you this, because I had a motorola x with the same problem, the solution was to change the battery. Solved, try another battery
Dropping phone in water and having issues after is Moto's fault....? :silly:
I'll add... Water can and usually does wreak havoc on these things. Anything can go wrong after. Usually I'd say move on. Don't waste time or money trying to fix it.
You maybe were lucky. :good: But to suggest it's Moto's fault is crazy. Lol My X has died many times and 30 seconds on the charger and it boots. Anything you experienced was from the water.... Not a defect.

You put your phone in water, then turned it on again after only trying to dry it for a VERY short time. Bit amazing it even worked, and your complaining because it worked but only after drying?
Jesus man.
Pretty sure LIthium Ion batteries don't like going down near zero. Even when your phone says zero% and the phone automatically turns off it still isn't completely discharged.
I've let my nexus 7, and game controllers sit unused for a while. When you try to use them again they need a really long charge before they will work again.
The water probably put a load across the battery and nearly completely discharged it.
I actually just went thru this. I did the old school battery calibration using NeMa's app in the play store. Says to discharge 100%.. Phew lol. I was stressed. I had the same problems as above

Phone powering off at 70% battery

Hi all,
My Nexus 6 GPE has been powering off after about 2 hours or so being disconnected from the charger every morning. The phone has 70% of power (going off of this last time it has happened, usually it is around 50/60%) and it goes into battery saver mode and says it is powering down. When I try and restart. sometimes it goes and instantly shuts down, other times it shows the battery is completely dead (ie the empty phone icon), with this last time I was able to get into recovery and stay on and the bootloader and in recovery it says I have 60% battery left.
This all started when I flashed the latest software (LMY47E) and the latest bootloader/radios. I used Nexus Toolkit to Factory Restore it and it is still doing the same thing, sometimes it doesn't even give warning before shutting off. Has anyone come across this before? Do you think it is software or hardware related?
Thanks for your help
Did you try this?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6/help/dying-17-battery-t3062050
I did try that, it seemed to work but then turned off again. I did it about 3 more times, so far it hasn't shut off again, it was around 52% when I did it last and it came back up as 27% so I am hopeful that worked.
Has anyone else experienced issues because Qi charging? I have almost exclusively always charged this with a Qi Wireless Charger.
I have been having the same issue. Just did the "fix" from the other thread and before reboot it read 98%, after boot it says 77%. Crossing fingers.
UPDATE:
Nope, didn't work. After it went to 50%, it shut down and won't start on it's own unless it is plugged in. I'm back to step one.

That sucks. It seemed to work for me. Phone drained to 5% and automatically shut down. Charged it to full without booting, so if it still behaves, it fixed me.

Dacian like i just wrote in the other thread:
The "fix" i posted plus no more charging with Qi chargers worked for me.
I tried that, didn't use Qi charging to get it back to 100% and it still shut off. Can you use Qi charging again? I didn't spend $700 on my Nexus 6 so I couldn't use all of the features. I own 4 Qi chargers so that I didn't have to plug in my phone at all unless I was doing something through ADB.

No more Qi charging since I tried the mentioned workaround and no more problems with my N6 shutting down too early.
But I agree: not a solution if you use Qi stations a lot.
I think I'll just warranty it and if there comes a time where this starts happening again, hopefully there'll be a fix from google for it or something. Thank you for your help.
You're welcome. Good luck and keep us posted!
my phone was doing the same exact thing...first started off shutdown at 20 then 40 now 70! phoned motorola for a replacement : "sorry we cannot send replacements but we can fix it"...WTF?!?! a phone like this?! why the F would i want a repared faulty phone?!? Motorola never again never...
I have the same problem (now shutting down at 65%), i already call google for replacement but untill now i never had confirmation
I have the same problem. Nexus 6 shuts down. Displays blank white battery. Cannot be turned on without plugging into power source. Upon powering up it shows plenty of power.
Possible helpful info:
1. Recently manually updated to 5.1
2. Recently started using Qi charging
I did not notice a problem until both of those -- of the two my suspicion is the wireless charging but it's a total guess
I've tried all the suggested fixes and none worked.

Went completely dead...worth a fix maybe?

I went in to get my Note 4 off my desk, and found it with a blue LED on, and dead. I pulled the battery, held the power button down a couple minutes to completely dump any electricity, and no go. Won't show charge when plugged to USB, different battery same thing.
So, I'm presuming something is definitely bad in the hardware.
Debating whether I should bother dropping it by a cell phone repair shop, or just invest in another.
Wondering if anyone had had success ressurecting a phone in this condition.
Thoughts?

He did that. Does it show up when connected to a computer?
Is an interesting saga.
I tried hooking to a computer, different USB cable, etc.
Interestingly, I took it to a repair shop, they plugged it to a charger (which I had done) and it started charging. Turned it on and it booted. I took it home and finished charging and am using it now.
Darned if I know...

I've got the same problem. seems like the phone overheats for a bit. Right now, I cannot powercycle unless I remove the battery and let the phone sit for anywhere from 30 minutes to 8 hours.
All I know for sure is that the problem started when I was trying to upgrade the phone from KitKat.
Basically, at this point, I need to do my best to not let the battery run all the way down, unless I am ok without the phone for a while.

Mi Mix almost totally dead - is there life?

Ok, it's been a couple days since I posted on the Q&A about my Mi Mix suddenly not turning on after powering it down with close to a 100% battery. Now, for the first time since this happened I plugged it into my computer (Mac) and although the computer didn't recognize it as being attached the led light above the charging port is flashing red every half second. Any thoughts or ideas?

Looks like your device switched to QCOM 9008 Download mode.
It should be detectable via MiFlash; you will probably need to flash a fastboot rom with full factory reset.
But try the following first:
- disconnect from charging for 1 day
- charge it for a few hours
- hold on the power button for 2 minutes
I'm happy to report that my phone is now working again! I have no idea what happened but after charging it in the official charger and cable for a while it took a charge and changed green then powered up. Really hope it doesn't happen again though
