Hello,
I'm not even sure if the phone connect to Tmobile LTE bands, but according to the spec sheet, the phone does have all the Tmobile LTE bands (2,4,12). But I only get about 4~6Mbps download and 1~2 Mbps upload speed running speedtest.
Anything I can do to improve the speed? I already create a new APN and tried with different settings like IPv4/IPv6 and IPv4 alone.
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Anyone ?? No one has the same issue as me? I also flashed the AQI4 latest firmware with AQI4 baseband and things seem a bit better, but still very slow.
Probably need to flash a T-Mobile CSC and we might need to call them and have them provision something with our IMEI as well. My N950N has the same slow issue as you, but I noticed if I insert the SIM, for a few minutes the data speed will be very fast, then suddenly just drops to garbage slow.
Also wondering if perhaps there's a physical issue with some of these. My signal strength and download speeds are garbage again (thought that they were fixed by restoring the stock EFS partition but I appear to have made a mistake).
Testing at my house now next to my Note 5, the Note 8's signal strength bounced between 9-15 dBm worse than the Note 5 (it's signal strength varied by at most 1 dBm), same LTE band and running multiple speed tests concurrently and separately the Note 5 was averaging 100mbps down (testing on the same server for consistency) where the 8 was anywhere between about 16 Mbps to 35.5 Mbps again on the same server.
This is on complete bone stock factory flash with Odin.
Another oddity is that the upload speed was higher on average on the 8, it was 1-5 Mbps higher than on the Note 5 even though the 5 is destroying it in download speeds.
I am really starting to suspect a loose antenna wire.
I have the F/DS Singapore variant on t mobile. Signal strength is great so far and getting 4G+.

Sure, here u go.
I basically just pop in the sim ,didn't touch any network settings.

In my case it turned out that my usb/antenna/mic/speaker circuit board kind of died after about 1 week - that is why my LTE signal and speeds suddenly dropped. When it was working properly I was able to get download speeds between 100-200+ Mbps, in an area with signal strength approximately -75 dBA, but now in the same area it only gets about -95 to -100 dBA and I'm lucky to get 20 or 30 Mbps. Waiting for replacement parts to become available so I can replace the faulty board.
Also apparently a lot of these are having issues as many people are reporting some or all of the issues related to the components on that board (slow/poor LTE, mic issues, etc).

Did T Mobile just roll out their 3G network?
Today I did a mobile speed test on my Tilt. I usually get 70kbit/s, last tested two month ago. And today is just amazing, my Tilt scored average 400-500kbit/s, and the highest I've got is a burst of 1000kbit/s.
It shows EDGE on my network signal bar, don't know what is going on. And I have my wifi turned off.
Tested on both Opera Mobile and Pocket IE, same consistent results, T Mobile's EDGE is never this fast before.

What ROM / Radio are you using?
Sleuth 3.0 with the included radio in that rom, by far the fastest and most stable Rom I've tried.
I have not bothered to test speeds, but I did a side beside comparison between my Kaiser on T-mobile USA and an Iphone on AT&T and the Kaiser was much faster.
Whatever that means. . .

I think so.
I got my device in January and this week i've been consistantly getting an HSDPA signal for the first time ever (Edinburgh).
Prior to this week, the only time I had ever received an HSDPA signal was when waiting for a train in London Euston.
Shame i'm only getting 160KBit atm but it's better than what I was getting before.
lifanus, where are you located? If you're in the US, then YES, tmo has just begin launching their 3g network. It's already up and running in NYC, and will be in a bunch more cities by the end of the summer. However, the tilt supposedly can't get the tmo-US 3g 1700mhz band.
I live in the boston area and my phone has been jumping over to 3g and H periodically, albeit intermittent. It's a sign of good things to come.
I've been with Tmo for years, and I've always loved their plans, service, and their pricing structure. I'm just glad they're going to offer services that will rival their competitors! :-D
Hi Ingentics,
I live close to Dallas, TX, USA (Denton)
I've tested the speed this morning again and the speed apprently dropped to normal 150kbits/s. I guess that the 500kbits/s to 1000kbits/s speed I was getting is late at night when not many people's using their data services. Because I got the results around 2am...
hi lifanus
I live in irving tx, i am not getting any 3G at all. i am running hyperdragon iii with the included radio. and i got the 5.99 plan. do you also the 5.99 plan?
WXC,
No, i'm actually using the T-Mobile total internet w/hotspot plan (internet2.voicestream.com instead of wap+proxy network).
Here is a screenshot of the speed I got late night yesterday.

Could be compression, especially if you have a proxy enabled!
can anyone else get the kind of speed as lifanus on tmobile in the dallas area? if so which rom /radio / plan you are using? I am only getting 75kbits/sec

Speed tests with opera are never accurate due to the way they compress and send information to the phone... pie is unfortunatly the only way to get an "accurate" speed test.
And also can't get tmobile 3g without the 1700 band
I'm in Ottawa and my speeds are a little wacky. The first night I had LTE service I hit 40mbps, bit now its steady around 16-18 or so.
Should i expect my most recent tests or should i be looking for higher than that?

Were in Ottawa are you? Im in Kanata and have yet to see lte speeds. im in an ongoing battle with rogers to get lte here. they told me were there towers were in Kanata i went there and nada. i know hunt club and merivale is a strong signal as is baseline and woodroff were their flagship store is. I have gotten decent speeds here and there but i dont believe there network is even half functional. i bought my phone in Toronto in oct and the lte speeds were pretty consistent and coverage was fairly accurate in terms of their coverage map.
First they said my device was defective even though it worked fine in Toronto. So i bought a sierra wireless lte modem and had the same results to prove to them it wasnt a device issue. then i drove to there towers with google maps on my screen to show them my position and the fact that my phone was in edge and sometime 3g at best and emailed rogers tech support pics as well.
There supposed to send a tech out again tomorow but at this point im not very optimistic.
As you can see in the pic when lte works its great the speeds there are from toronto and 2 are from ottawa, just not anywhere near me lol, other pics are of my position less than 100 meters from the towers and you can see the network its on 4g if lucky otherwise edge (tower is corner of campeau and teron other one is castlefrank and 417)
Also do you have issues with the phone when it tries to switch between 4g and lte?
I live in sandy hill and work downtown. I hit 4g downtown but 90% of the time I'm on LTE at home which is pointless as I have WiFi.
Sent from my HTC-X710a using XDA App
i haven't really noticed anything when they switch, but i'm not really aware of when it does.
what i have noticed is that when i'm on LTE my signal kinda dwindles, but its not unusable. its actually more functional than with full strength on 4g.
So I figured out why I was getting such low speeds on my tests. I was running off a Montreal server so it was skewing my results.
After using the Ottawa server my results improved drastically. The top 3 are after I switched to the Ottawa network.
I am impress.
LTE for the win.

Im in the same boat, for some reason speedtest and alot of other cell signal apps put me in montreal as my location when trying to figure out my location via cell signal. funny thing is it only happens when in lte, wonder if this is some sort of bug? when i change it to ottawa speed def picks up.
Also rogers is having issues with their lte they gave me 50%off my bill for 6 months so i pay 25$ for 10 gb and 25$ for my north america unlimited plan, may be worth calling in for you as well
AT&T LTE is about on par with your LTE speeds, cept I haven't managed to get more then 2 bars on LTE.

I haven't noticed any signal loss or poor call quality so overall I'm impressed so far, other than it nit picking up my LTE in downtown Ottawa. Maybe I'll call rogers after all haha

I've found online that there's a setting the mobile network section to set it to LTE auto. After turning that on I haven't had an issue with my LTE network signal other than it dropping in my office building, but even then it still manages to pump out 15-20meg or so.

Your local tower/site might be being upgraded to LTE. If so, you should expect some down time. My site literally went offline for a few days (100% roaming on Verizon) until they finished whatever upgrade they were doing. Got LTE about a week later. But as stated, your mileage may vary.

My S4 is the same speed on 3g as my Evo 4G LTE and as our S3. I used Speedtest to verify. I'd take the phone into a Sprint store and run Speedtest on it compared to their display model. Turn wireless off on both phones first, of course.

If you don't have upgraded towers, your service should remain the same. If not, I would suggest you get your new phone looked at since it's still under warranty.

I'm coming from a Nexus S 4G too and this phone has so much better reception, especially wifi. Don't really get LTE that often though, which is kind of disappointing because I actually had pretty good WiMAX coverage. But I know LTE coverage will only get better with time.
Signal != Data speed. If your signal is good but your data speed is slow, it's most likely that the sector is overloaded or the site is currently backhaul limited. It sounds like the site you connect to hasn't had Network Vision upgrades yet. Go familiarize yourself with Network Vision over at s4gru.com.
Call sprint before you return it. I had the same thing. I had great signal with my HTC Evo 3d and when I switched to the S4, I was dropping calls like crazy and with 1 bar or no signal. Found out that they were updating the towers and I also have 4g in my area now. Woot!

I get download speeds of about 50Mbps...
I get 30+ on LTE and 70 on WiFi.
Yeah I can get faster speeds standing next to the router, but its not as speedy when far away.
I compared side by side: Note 4 always load faster than Note 3 and Z3 with Youtube and Chrome.
Are you trying it with an Asus router? In my own tests, the Note 4 seems to perform worse with Asus routers like the RT-AC68U, but faster with the Netgear! I think the phone needs some driver optimisations
the note 4 and galaxy tab series have an amazing wifi radio. they both pull like 70mbps in the furthest room in my house on my Asus dark Knight router. whereas my g2 only pulled 25mbps.. same with my nexus 7. this thing rocks.

Echoing this as well. Connection is unreliable even when near router. Maybe I should try to connect on 2.4Ghz and try again (all the while on 5Ghz and it's crap). My Cat 6 LTE speed (typically betweek 80-110Mbps) trash what I could get on WiFi.
My note 4 is less stable and has less range than my LG g2. But here are the results. On my moca 1.1 connection with 300' of coax between moca boxes and my dir-825 wireless router.
Note 4
73.58mb down
22.51mb up
78.12mb down
20.33mb up

Have been using 5g on my note 4 since release with an ac68u on the Merlin fork firmware by John. Never experienced any drops or low speed even when im on the second floor with the door closed in my room, when the router is down stairs.
The only thing in unhappy about is that using ES file explorer, transferring a file to and from my NAS to the phone is limited to about 10.5MBps. Much better than the note 3 of course but was expecting at least 30MBps or so....

I compare with iPhone 6 Plus, it load faster than it. It is loaded pretty fast to me. By the way mine is Exynos edition. No worried here.
Just got my Note 4 yesterday and just ran a test on my wi-fi right now... 125 mbs down and 12 mbs up. Basically identical to my desktop, can't complain at all.
For everyone posting speed tests please specify what technology your the signal was on at the time. Please do not post stupid answers like 'Get a new router' or 'Upgrade your ISP' these people are idiots so don't be one. Every router I try with the results are the same. Note 4 about 1/3rd the speed of the Note 3 being tested. FYI the upload is slow just like the download.
Here with 802.11 G/N 2.4 Ghz, the speed is complete crap compared to the Note 3. Even went as far as re-flashing the whole phone and no luck. Added a separate SSID as Fast to my router on 5 Ghz n 40 Mhz and connected to it. Didn't make a difference.
There are lots of reports online and I'm sure they're going to be more:

Its worth noting that the speedtest.net app has never NEVER gotten close to my broadband speed on any Android handset I have owned so far, even though WiFi throughput when tested by iperf is usually much greater than my broadband speed.
Also, my Note 4 had a day one update waiting that once I applied has messed up my WiFi performance. Before the update I noticed Google Play installing apps at my full average broadband speed of 66Mbit, after the update its all over the place. Its bad, but it does at least suggest this is a software problem so fixable.
Interestingly, before the update when connected at 866Mbit 802.11ac, I got EXACTLY the same throughput (260Mbit) as the Note 3 did connected at 433Mbit.
On the other hand WiFi reliability seems to be vastly superior to the Note 2 or 3. When I do anything with the LIFX app its instant, there was always a little delay on the Note 3.

You might want to say that this is normal in Asia. I live in Europe and besides 4G that is just deploying, average ADSL stays below 15 MB download. I'm quite lucky and have 20 MB through ADSL and up to 55~60 with 4G [emoji41]

Hey guys, so I just became an owner of the galaxy note 5 920C
I'm really happy with this upgrade since my one M8 was slowly dying (phone would shut down whenever the battery reached ~20%) and fixing the device is extremely difficult so I decided to get something newer.
everything is great, except for the data connection. it was REALLY bad. like, here, let me show you a screenshot from speedtest app:

as you can see its terrible despite being on 4G (its not shown, but you have to believe me).
The battery life is far below average too, but I assume its because of the firmware.
I have some experience in using custom roms and stuff, but I dont really wanna do it to this phone since I'm more than satisfied with the user experience. with the exception of data speeds.
WiFi is excellent btw. So I came to a conclusion that it must be the firmware, I downloaded one from ukraine which made the H+ speeds work much better (3MB/s down and 1MB/s up), however LTE was nowhere to be found. so I flashed another one from South Africa (XFE Product Code, PDA N920CXXS3BPI3) and the H+ speeds are very good now, reaching 13MB/s easily with very low latency (22ms), but LTE is still unavailable. So my question is:
Theres a ton of firmware packages for the 920C on the internet and each one of them is approx 2GB. I really dont want to spend hours downloading and testing each package one by one, so is there a tested firmware that works best for central europe? namely Poland, Orange provider?
thanks in advance, until someone replies with a possible answer I will be testing packages one by one and if someone happens to have the same issue I'll make sure to update the thread.
The South Africa firmware I mentioned above did give LTE, but the signal strength is extremely weak. Here's the result for it though:
Turns out the best firmware was from Saudi Arabia. the name of the rar on sammobile was N920CXXS3BPI3_N920COJV3BPH7_WTL
results are in the last post on the first page.
You don't have to flash the whole firmware. Just the modem.

can you explain further? it is literally my first day "digging" in the phone and second day having it. I havent had enough time to figure everything out yet. I knew there should be some sort of radio (or modem as you said) that I could just flash as there was a similar story with every other device I had in the past.
if you could perhaps post direct links it would definitely help a lot.
guys anything? the south african firmware has good internet but gives terrible battery life
I have the same situation. Mine is stock firmware and it shows signal bar at around 2 or 1. It pisses me off to see that but I haven't had any missed or drop calls. In some areas it'll be full bars and others most of the time 2 or less. My Note 3 had full bars all over the place.
Also mine only shows 4G but I'm getting the Full 4G LTE speeds and using an app to check what I'm getting. It says LTE on the app but phone says 4G.

Im testing the UAE firmware right now. battery life is good, played a 35min youtube video with 50% brightness and it only drained 8%. disadvantage is that theres no 4G speeds seem to be over 3Mb/s topping at about 12 - 13Mb/s
I wouldnt mind having 2 bars or less if I would get over 5Mb/s speeds and decent battery life. Today it drained over 50% battery with only 16 minutes of screen on time in 4 hours

your IP address says you live in the US. I think theres a canadian firmware somewhere on the net, perhaps you should try it?
saudi arabia firmware gave me rock solid H+ performance at constant and stable 13mb/s down and 2mb/s up. Still no LTE but I can live with this kinda speeds I guess
