Hi everyone I've got a big problem with my wife's Mi 5. After some minutes/hours of usage the touchscreen stops working and the only solution the make it work again is to reboot the phone (by keeping the power off button pressed).
I've tried some rom (MIUI stable, MIUI dev, Paranoid Android 7.3.0) but all of them have the same problem, someone has got the same issue?
I think it's not only an hardware problem because the touchscreen works most of the time... Any ideas?
I'm having the exact same problem with my wife's Mi5 too. I thought she was talking rubbish until I started using the phone full time over the past few weeks.
Symptoms:
Screen switches on and accepts one touch event.
Screen is then unresponsive to touch events.
All other buttons (home, power, volume) all work OK.
All functions work OK (calling, SMS, etc) via remote control (MyPhoneExplorer)
Screen then becomes responsive again after reboot
Tried so far:
Clearing dalvik/cache
Clean flash - using MiFlash and China dev ROM
Opened phone, cleaned all ZIF connections and reconnected.
It almost feels like something in the touch firmware or driver crashes and does not reconnect - as the phone is clearly usable save for the touch panel.
I'm going to ask Bruno/bgcngm and see if there's anything I can do to try and diagnose the issue.

In my case unresponsive screen to touch events, all phisical button works and the only option to make it works again is to reboot. I didn't try to use it with some "remote" control.

I didn't try to open the phone, but I installed all roms with TWRP and format data/wipe cache/dalvik before.

I also think that it's related with a software issue...

I don't know who is Bruno/bgcngm but I hope he/she'll find a solution.
If you need some other information or help I'll give you as much as I can.
Well on my old mi4c i had similar problem. I mean sometimes when i pressed power button and tried to unlock it screen didn't work. For me solution was simply to press power button again to turn off screen and then turn IT on. Maybe this will help u. Have u try that ?

Do you think it's something related with Doze or standby? I think so because today (and yesterday and so on...) I wasn't able to turn off the wake up alarm (the phone was in standby with the screen off all night) with "the screen" but I have to force restart the phone with the button... and it's very annoying.
Maybe we can try with some Marshmallow ROM instead Nougat one.

I'm facing same issue.I've changed my display panels but it doesn't solve my problem.it is quite painfull.i don't know what should i do.
any update sir?
My MI 5 has a different issue. There is no response if I place the phone on the table, but it is fine if I held it. It seems the touch panel is only responsive when the sort of sensors that a human is holding the phone. I have no idea why it starts to happen in these weeks. This symptom happens even in TWRP, so I don't think it is related some particular ROM. Tried firmware 7.7.6 ~ 7.9.22 with no luck.
skip lock screen
Hi
I know I am late to the party, but just faced the same issue yesterday. To bypass the issue, follow the following steps
1. Restart your phone .
2. Enable developer options from about section in settings. (google enable developer options for specifics)
3. In developer options, there is an option to skip screen lock. Enable that.
4. Voila!!
Hope it will help other mi5 users..
Hi,
I had the same problem. I found this video and I tried to fix it. It worked pretty well. Bye
In a situation that I can't do any service for my Mi5 as of now - is this really loose cable thing ?
Can more folks confirm that this cable solution from above video works ?
exactly same symtoms :
Random screen freeze - only option is to reboot phone or phone goes rebooting randomly itself.

Hi hope someone can help. Over the weekend my TD2 started playing up. All of the hardware buttons apart from the on/off button have stopped working. I also notice that if I turn the screen off with a short tap of the on/off button, after a few seconds it comes back on again. All touch screen functions are ok. It also appears to be draining the battery very quickly, to the extent that fully charged at bedtime (no bluetooth or wifi on and a stable 3-4 bar signal) it will be comppletely drained by morning. As far as I am aware the phone has not gotten wet at all.
I have also re-installed the office HTC rom, which made no difference
Any ideas??
So you reinstalled the stock rom and did a hard reset?
You can try Tarkim's Keyboard controller and see if your hardware keys can be mapped to a different function.
That would help eliminate hardware vs software issues.
I have the same problem. Also my backlight keeps working and won't go off. Can't perform a hard reset because my volume buttons(and all other hardbuttons accept the on/off) aren't working.
Searched for the solution but can't find it anywhere. Who can help me?

Try clear storage app to HR.
Thanks for your reaction.
Yesterday I managed to put an official ROM on my phone.(latest from HTC site).
Problem only got worser. Phone gets complety stuck(directly after boot) in the volume screen. Sometimes its flashes back to the normal screen but only for 1 second. Buttons still aren't working so can't do anything with my phone right now( not even the hard reset methode you told me).
Started to think that this is really some hardware issue. Can't remember that water got in my phone or the phone felt really hard. Any solutions maybe?
Otherwise I think I just go to the store.

One last thing you can try is a Task29 explained here.
Use your official rom (right click on .exe and extract the RUU_Signed.nbh and place in task29 folder, then connect device in Bootloader mode and run the Task29.exe. Follow the instructions in the link.
Hi all,
Now I am facing an annoying issue, the phone usually does not wake up after pressing the power button, however, the phone still active while the screen is black (i.e. long press on the power button makes a vibration because of the power menu which should be appeared, when I press volume buttons I hear the volume change sound ... etc.). It may wake up after a while, and sometimes I have to restart the phone in order to make a call, for instance.
After months of using Neo's Resurrection Remix, which was working smoothly until a week ago, I have installed Lineage 15.1 yesterday freshly, and still facing this issue. Moreover, I don't use any kind of screen protectors or covers.
Anyone have faced it before? Should I try a custom kernal? Or go back to the stock ROM? Or it is a hardware issue (I wish it is not :crying?
Thanks in advance guys,
Regards.
Loose internal cable, I think? Yep, probably hardware issue. Did you drop it recently?

This issue has been driving me mad for the past couple weeks. I'm at my wits' end and I need some expert help to figure this out. Please read this post thoroughly to understand my situation, as this is not a simple matter of uninstalling some apps.
When I first got my Note 9, the screen lock button worked perfectly. The screen would immediately turn on when I pressed the button, and it would immediately turn off when I pressed it again. However, once I got the Android Pie update, the screen lock button stopped working properly. The screen still turns on immediately, but there's about a 0.5 second delay after I press the button to turn it off. It's a relatively small issue, but it's enough to bother me.
I attempted to fix this by performing a system reset. But this did not help. In fact, this issue is still present even before completing initial setup of the phone.
When you perform a system reset, the first screen you see when your phone restarts is the welcome screen. It contains a "start" button that you press to begin setup. On this screen, the lock button issue does not happen. My phone locks and unlocks correctly. On the next screen, you connect to a wifi network. After connecting to a wifi network, the lock button issue becomes present. In other words, this issue with the lock button is present before I even start using the OS, or install any apps, or really do anything at all. It seems to be triggered by connecting to a wifi network during setup.
So I figured there must be something wrong with the firmware. So I used Odin to flash an earlier firmware version. This did not solve the issue. I even tried installing an unlocked firmware version, on the offchance that my carrier (AT&T) was doing something weird. This did not help either.
I have no idea where to go from here. I thought that a system reset is supposed to completely wipe everything from your phone, so that it behaves exactly how it did when I first got it. But that's not the case. It seems like something is carrying over that's causing this issue. Does anybody have any idea what I should do?
Do you have lock instantly with power key on?

It is probably the double tap power button to open camera feature. You can toggle it off and locking will be instant.
If its already off, there my be an accessibility service listening key presses.

This delay issue is so silly but it annoys the hell out of me. Where did you turn off this feature in Pie?
Update: Found it. Just use the search box in settings and type in "camera" (or whatever it is in your language). The "double tap power" setting will get listed.
Thanks alot,
Watz
I even turned off the double press for camera app but I'm still noticing a 0.5 sec lag when i press the side key
I even restarted after changing the setting
Nothing is happening
Please help

Hi!
As the title says, I replaced the screen of my Xiaomi Mi 9t Pro (6/128), and the new screen wont turn on. When I charge the phone, it shows the Mi logo on the screen, plus the percentage, which means the new screen works, powers on and makes contact with the phone.
The problem is though, turning the phone on. The phone doesn't respond to the on/off button, or the power on setting when pressing the motherboard. I tried every button configuration, but it doesn't seem to work. All connections and cables and such are intact as well.
Any help/tips?
Thanks in advance!

I don't quite have experience with this, but have you tried:
- Booting to recovery and Clearing all data, or
- Reinstalling MIUI, or
- Unlocking bootloader + installing a custom OS
Just a theory, but these may help the software recognize the display as the primary, as I think that may be the problem here- as it's not a hardware problem

Hi,
I have the same problem as you with my Mi 9T.
I suspect that I applied to much heat near the powerbutton, is this possible?
Did you find a solution?
best regards
edit: Alright the problem is that the Powerbutton only works when the motherboard is screwed to the frame (or pressed down for testing), just assemble the phone and you should be fine. writing this mostly for people who find this thread via google like me^^

Well,
I brought my phone to a repair shop and they told me I cut the power connector while opening the back panel.
They were unable to order them directly from Xiaomi so I did it via Ali-express, and now its fixed. Don't use object that're too sharp while opening back panel! I watched too much Jerryrig on Youtube haha.

You are a lifesaver. I also connected the new display to MI 9T and it lit up only when I plugged the phone into a charger. But it wouldn't turn on. I was worried that I have broken something like the flex cable from battery, but pressing down on the motherboard worked. Thank you!
Hello friends,
My situation:
Out of the blue my phone stopped responding to the wake-up action. Every time I lock it, I have to restart for the screen to turn on again. The power button is working just fine, since I can go to recovery mode and use it to select options there. I even installed a somewhat wrong version of the TWRP recovery that would not boot to the main OS, but the power/lock button would work just fine in recovery, putting the phone to sleep and waking it up. I reverted the instalation after so I could boot to the main OS ( Android 10). I tried reinstalling(from an official image of the rom) the full rom, incluing everything from OS to Bootloader, and could not make the wakeup action work again. Once my phone is on, if I lock it, I have to force a restart to turn the screen on again. I even tried sending a direct command to the OS using adb shell input keyevent KEYCODE_POWER and KEYCODE_WAKEUP to no success. Even tough I made sure other common events like opening the camera (KEYCODE_CAMERA) were working when the screen was on, and I bet it was working when the screen was off too, but it would not wakeup the screen and I would not be able to see the camera view finder.
My phone is a Samsung galaxy A30, model SM-A305G, currently in Android 10.
I think I described the problem good enough, but If anyone have a problem understanding it, just let me know and I try to explain it better.
Can anyone help me out here? I tried a lot of things to not success.
Thanks!
I have the exact problem you described, did you find any solution ?

flash official ROM with Odin or with twrp
I tried several different official roms by odin but nothing changed.
Power button and volume rockers works perfectly in recovery or download mode but in the OS volume rockers do not do anything (nor volume button commands from adb shell) and if I press the power button phone sleeps and never wakes up.
Very very strange at this stage I disabled sleep and with a amoled black bacground using the phone but I really wonder wtf is going on ?

very strange
I made furher research about the issue and here is what i've found.
Some videos mentioned same problem in similar samsung models and they stated that changing the daughterboard that connected to motherboard via screen flex resolved the issue. Other videos reflowed the connector in the motherboard side of the flex.
Also phone not responding the adb power commands while in sleep but responding fine when awake got me thinking there is a problem with a some kind of awake pin of screen. Probably there is a short or a missconnection in that pin. That's why solutions in the videos work I think.
It is definitelty not a software issue because it happens in every official or custom rom except in twrp (which does not put screen into sleep mode according "mScreenState" info)
It is not a hardware issue related to power button. Power button works perfectly fine in recovery, download mode and when awake.
Its a hardware issue that probably about the connection that sends wake up signal which maybe from motherboard side of the connection or maybe daughterboard side.
Not a real solution but I found a app called touch protector which has an option that you can disable the touch and set screen brightness to 0%, basically means normal off state for the amoled screens.
I set double click of volume down to sleep mode for touch protector. Maybe with some keymap editing someone can set powerbuttons function to not real sleep but touch protector's sleep. This will be best software solution.
In the hardware side if the problem is daughterboard it can be swapped easily but reflowing smd connecters in motherboard could be risky for me and I don't want to open the never opened device for not solving the problem.
