I've had my unlocked HTC Kaiser for 2 months now on the AT&T Network no problems. On Thanksgiving Day, my phone decided not to turn on after I left the phone to charge overnight. I figured it did not get a good charge so I tried recharging it. It was flashing red lights near the the top of the phone. So I go into AT&T on Friday to see if its the battery or the european charger that may be at fault. I played around a few combinations in the store and it suddenly/magically turned on. (I decided to buy the charger and extra battery anyways). The employee decides that for some reason or another, the phone needs a SIM Card. Well here is where everything went downhill.
After the new SIM card, I was unable to make or receive any calls, and no access to my data plan. Sometimes, I would have full signal bars but still was unable to make/receive phone calls. I've been able to make calls on very rare occasions; especially in this room in our school. What to give? So I went into another AT&T store and noticed that they had the incorrect IMEI number down in their system,. I asked for them to fix it but they said they couldn't change it for some reason and that the IMEI wouldn't be causing the problems I'm experiencing. So I finally called Customer Service Support on the phone and supposedly they were able to change it to the correct IMEI #. But still the same issues. I've done soft, hard, master resets, take out the battery + SIM card, you name it and still the same problem! When I took the SIM Card out of my phone and put it in a Blackberry, it did work! But when I took the Blackberry SIM Card into my phone, it did not. The support team told me that indicates that it is my phone; but I clearly told them that it could also be due to the fact that the towers just aren't recognizing my device no longer.
So I spoke to HTC about this and they said its the SIM card and they wanted me to go in and get another SIM card. So I went into AT&T today and got a new SIM card but same problem. Again, same issue. So I called AT&T Customer Support today and asked them to bump me up to Level II or III support. She says she cannot do that because my phone is unlocked (from HTC) and no support for that. I gave her the rundown on how my phone was working for 2 months until they put in the new SIM card and my cell phone activity clearly show that. Then she goes on to mention that other technical service reps that have helped me in the past few days clearly have pointed the culprit to be my device and not AT&T as they have exhausted all tests. And I told her, it's like taking a brand new car to a mechanic and then get the car back not running. If you ask the mechanic what did you do to my car, he's not going to admit to anything. She says that my device isn't being recognized by the towers. So then I brought up the point of "So is it my tower or is it really my phone?". I told her it's no problem getting a new phone but if I get a new phone, will it be unrecognized by the towers again. She said yes because it is unlocked. I said what about the thousands of other people who use unlocked Kaisers or any phone for that matter as they seem to have NO problems. They basically want you to buy the phone directly from them.
In all, I've spent nearly 10 hours on trying to get this thing to rework and be able to place/receive phone calls. Whether this is due to the events which ensued after the red light indicator on Thanksgiving Day OR the fact that AT&T switched my SIM Card and caused my device to be undetected by towers (whether it was due to the fact they put in the wrong IMEI in the first place or any adjustment they made to my account) remains to be determined.
The only options that remain is: 1) Go to TMobile and try out their SIM card on my phone and see if it works. I highly doubt they too will let me do that as they consider phone unlocked and don't want to help 2) Get a new phone through HTC and hope it'll work on AT&T again.
Any ideas or support??? heheh. your help is truly appreciated
I feel you pain Brother.......
I don't have a clue how IMEI and towers can just not register your device...though....but anyhow, did you check if you have the Phone in the Dialing screen-Menu-Options, then the tab BAND on the bottom and both of them selected as AUTO? if not, then try changing bands.......
If you know that then, I'm thinking only of AT&T could have blacklisted you or some sort.......but that is highly unlikely......
I had some problem like that when i'm out of the country using Foreign Chips, and it seems the Kaiser needs a bit of time to adjust to new sims, and that can take minutes, hours...or even days......who knows what is happening as the phone is "learning"....... hope this helped you a bit....
I've been using my Kaiser for several months now and I did not register my IMEI, I just popped the sim out of my 8525 and took off running. It sounds to me like your phone has failed in some way, especially if your new sim works fine in another phone. The question now really is, where can you get a Kaiser fixed in the US? I spoke with HTC on another subject and I get the feeling that it may be difficult. I got mine from a shop in Canada, guess I'd have to go thru them.
In any case, good luck, it will be interesting to see what it turns out to be.
I second RemE -- like him, I bought a Tytn II & plugged in the SIM from an older phone (in my case a Qtek 9100 not bought through AT&T/Cingular), and have had no problems.
i had a similar problem with my 8525. I bought a Tilt to replace it, and about a week later I gave the 8525 to my son to use. neither his SIM card or mine would work in the 8525, but they worked in other phones. I brought the phone to the AT&T store and the guy there did something on his computer, then the phone was able to work. I'm not saying that AT&T blacklisted it, because I don't really know. But it took a change by the AT&T rep at the store to get the phone working again.
I have been using Kaiser with ATT for three months now with no problem. I just used the sim card from my Blackberry and so far, no problems.
At first I opened thread a thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=4468480) regarding not getting prompt for a sim unlock code using a gophone sim. I got around that by trying another (international) sim I had laying around, so was able to then use an unlock code to unlock my phone.
At this point, though, I am still stuck, as I am not able to connect to the AT&T network using a gophone sim.
sim works fine in a different phone
The ROMS I have used:
"The HTC ADP 1.5 CRC1 ROM" from
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=538456
cyanogenmod 4.0.4
To note, no APNs show under settings>wireless controls>Mobile Networks>Network>Access point names when I put non-tmobile sims in. When I add one, it still does not show up on the list. I have also tried clearing the data partition and tried setting up an APN during the setup procedure - no dice - the APN I just edited and saved does not show up.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks
I can say I don't got any, other than it don't like your go phone, I am afraid that if you get it working at this point, it might go kaboom in spite.
Those g1s are some finiky creatures, beware they attack if startled
FIXED!!!!
I dont know if this is new for gophone or anything .... but apparently "new" gophone accounts are tied to the IMEI number that you first start your account with. At least this is what they told me when I called into the gophone service center.
Anyway... I worked with a tech who seemed quite knowledgeable. I convinced her to change to IMEI number linked to my account and change it to the G1's IMEI (to note - I honestly answered every question asked of me, such as the phone being an unlocked G1 I bought on ebay). At first it did not take - I waited an hour to see if maybe it was something that just needed to propagate thorough AT&T's network. The tech called me back. Because it did not work, she changed it back to the original phone on the account. I then asked her to please change it back to the G1's IMEI and please just leave it - I would wait a day to see if that helped any. She changed it back to the G1's IMEI and then I told her I would continue to play with the phone. Right after our call ended, my phone all of a sudden connected to AT&T's network.
I hope that this helps someone out. I know that I am happy as I can finally get playing around with this thing.
Thanks to those who offered advise.
Hey I'm having a very similar problem with my Dell Streak 5 and my GoPhone SIM card, I've even gone through the IMEI process with support from AT&T and I guess they successfully changed the IMEI linked to my SIM card to that of my new Dell Streak 5 but it's been 4+ hours and it's hasn't been "updated" in their system. Though the IMEI is now correctly linked to my Dell Streak 5 I still get no service and cannot connect to any network. I'm stumped!
Hello!
I would like to ask for help, since seems that my phone fall in a more locked state, a seems that is an issue that is starting to plague the Droid-3's models.
Well, the issue is, I bought a Droid 3 that came fine and with a Verizon SIM card, and activated. So I purchase an Unlock code on internet, in order to Unlock it for use in my country network ( I already unlocked succesfully others models in the past).
Well, the code seller sends me 2 codes as options for unlock, butin the first try both fails with my local SIM (following instructions), well, then I enter in a process of several tests with other option settings ( Changing Network to gsm, full resenting of the phone, etc), but aftera I almost sure was 10 attemps (I was 5 process in total, since I received 2 codes, so spend 2 by every stting that I was try), the phone reported "Dismiss mode" and since them the "Unlock Network" option was not available from the system and request for calling Verizon service.
So, I am not in USA, an neither have Verizon account, I am stuck with the phoen still network Locked and worst Locked also in "Dismiss Mode".
So, far, I would like to ask PLEASE some help in order to try to unlock the phone, since by now is almost bricked.
I also would like to resume the info that I found by my bad experience and related research in order to help avoid that others users may fall inthis locked state:
1) If you try to unlock your phone and the code is unsuccesfull, You have at the most a MAX of 10 times in total and if You reach 10 times, Your phone will be locked in "Dismiss MODE" and will be asking for calling to Verizon to try to solve and You will have to need a Verizon up to date account and in normal service.
2) The codes available in internet seems NOT ABLE to Network Unlock some Droid 3's and the issue seems in rising.
3)There is some info around about that Verizon change the internal codes of their phones, so seems that the Motorola provided code that some sellers offers seems that dont work.
Please, If somebody could help with a method or process to remove or pass the dismiss state, and some info about codes outside Verizon that really could work on network unlock, it will be very gratefull.
Thanks for attention and best regards.
If you leave the phone on for 9 hours (if I remember right) on this screen, it will go back to 'enter unlock code' mode. But this is all you could do. Verizon tends to alter unlock codes for their global phones - this started with Droid 2 Global and now we see growing reports of same happening to Droid 3.
The thing is they do not want you to be able to use the phone if you are not customer of theirs. For now, your only chance is to have phone activated on Verizon on account that's postpaid and has been in good standing for at least 60 days. Then owner of this account can call and request unlock code from Verizon Global Support. If all conditions are met - they will give him/her the code free of charge. I know this might not be possible for you to do. I believe the only other way is if bootloader gets unlocked and somebody knowledgeable can thinker with the baseband image to overcome the sim lock.
There is also one more thing you could try, but it likely won't work very reliably - it is called "TurboSIM/Smart Unlock SIM" - a thin module that inserts underneath sim card in the slot and fakes the phone to believe it is engineering SIM inserted, thus bypassing the lock code. Those sell for like $5 on eBay, but as I said - phone might not work very reliably when these are in use
Head over Droid 2 Global section to read for more information if you like.
Hello leobg!
First of all! thank You very much for take time to kind help and answer. Indeed, Your info is helping since make me with more clear scene about the phone status.
Well, by now I set the phone on with the original Verizon SIM inside, in order to look for the "Network Unlock Code" screen...
About this, I wonder, with some doubts... if there be possible that after around 9 hours the "Network Unlock Code" return, and if I do not have yet a proper code, IF I pass/dismiss the "Network Unlock Code" screen the phone will return to Subsidy status OR it may be remove the Subsidy status, and then, when I may get a proper code in future I was able to get again the "Network Unlock Code" screen again, OR, if I dismiss the "Network Unlock Code" screen, then the phone still will be in Subsidy status, so, the only way to reach again the "Network Unlock Code" screen will be put the phone ON for around 9 hours again?
The rest of the info is very usefull too.
Also, I wonder if somebody around here, may have the experience about made and complete succesfully a process of remove the subsidy lock with the Verizon service, and instructions, and in such case what could be the instructions that Verizon provides to a customer to remove the Subsidy lock in the normal way that Verizon does this.
And, of course, if some another good friend around have some additional help/info, it will be very gratefull.
Thanks to all and best regards!
Hello!
Well, still Locked... :-(
However, found that the tip about remove battery for a while (around 10-15min) and turn on with out SIM, then turn off, put a SIM and turn on again remove temporarily the Subsidy lock, so the "Unlock Network Code"screen option will be available again (but also if You type an unlock code and fail, it will turn to Subsidy mode again, but again You could reset by remove battery and so on...).
By now, I ordered a Turbo SIM but will take around 3 weeks to come...
Any info about a Recent succesfull unlock with a code from a seller?... May somebody succesfully unlock a D3 with a code from ebay seller unlock_fusion in the past 2 weeks?...
I would like to try to buy such codes, but I am afraid that all the ebay seller may have the same database codes (not verizon database...), so may be the same codes that I already have for my IMEI, and that didnt work in my case...
Thanks for any additional info/help... best regards!
damn happened the same to me. this is not nice. there should be a way to acces the portion of the memory that locks the sim card. if you can sbf, maybe you could acces it somehow.
Hello!
I am new to this forum and also completely new to phone modding etc.
I will shortly explain what situation I am in so maybe someone can enlighten me a little so I know what to do.
A year ago I bought a phone on polish trading site called Allegro.pl, for months it worked without issues, it was a brand new phone.
A few weeks ago a message popped on screen telling me the phone is now locked due to failure in monthly payments. (Previous owner).
I tried all ways of contacting the seller but to no avail. His phone number is off, he does not answer e-mails.
I decided to just ditch the phone and use some old backup phone I had saved. The problem however is that the old phone died and right now I can't afford buying a new one.
Getting this phone into a working condition (without any lock) is my only option so here are the things I have done so far:
I have flashed the latest Android 10 Firmware but right after the initial set up is done (after recovery) the phone locks.
There is no window with the information anymore however, but I can't use any of phone's options or apps in anyway.
I have found a way to bypass that for a brief moment and managed to turn OEM lock off and Enable USB debugging.
(When phone asks for Wi-Fi network I used my old SIM card and told the phone to connect using SIM's connection and right after the initial setup is done I quickly unplugged the SIM so the phone has no connection to internet anymore and the lock didn't start right away. It took me a while to figure it out, been sitting in front of my PC up until 5 am last night.)
If I install TWRP and a custom rom will it bypass the lock on the phone and will I be able to use it normally again?
Will I have to change the firmware somehow, or what exactly will I have to do to make use of the phone again?
IMEI's appear to not be locked as of now.
Any help, information, advice on this subject will be greatly appreciated!
Hello all.
I got myself an used SM-N950U originally from Verizon and sold as unlocked. Now my problem is I cannot connect to/use my sim with it. Originally I thought it was locked since there's an app that says "not a Verizon sim", but then I realized this app is an userspace app so to say, part of the Verizon bloatware and doesn't mean the phone. I know specially since with that phone I also got an S10+ from a friend, also from Verizon, which does see and use my sim right and which also has that same message from the same app. But works well.
Now, I don't really have the option to return this phone, since it was shipped outside the US, and shipping back would cost me half as much as what the phone cost. So I'm on my own.
At least I'm resourceful, but not that knowledgeable so that's why I come here for help.
The phone diagnostics, for the network, says in a status line "Radio off". and no info on the network. and if I try to manually select a network on connection settings, I immediately get an error. This happens wether I'm using my local sim, the old deactivated Verizon sim from my friend, and no sim... since the phone should be abe by law to make emergency calls, and it should be able to see visible networks even if not to join them, it's my guess that rather than locked, it has the radio turned off, which in some web pages says can sometimes happen "for various reasons".
My problem is, as far as I know, I have no way to turn the radio off and on again to see if that boots it up. Since this VZW Pie from has no service codes available via dialer. Not even the most basic *#06# service menu.
I see there's supposedly a way to flash the firmware back to Nougat, and root that from, on This thread. I'm guessing if I can make that work (I hope it works) I can access the service menus somehow, with it being an older rom, and having root I can probably use "Phone INFO" to get to them and try to reset the radio.
But before I do all that, and since my firmware downloads, to update to a new firmware via odin (given the warning on the root page to not use a v8 bootloader that was updated from v7 to v8 via OTA but rather something with v8 flashed directly via Odin, to avoid a possible brick). and to install the rooteable nougat will take me days to download at my speeds, I take this time to ask for help on wether there's ANY way to check and flip the radio without having to go to Nougat and root (I think I can even be happy without root on Pie for a short while.)
Ok, I'm starting to think the power connector board got damaged or the connector partially disconnected during the shipping or something.
I've installed first a N950U1 xaa rom, to make sure the v8 was installed via odin and not OTA. Then loaded a combination from and rooted as per the root post shared in the first message. This one can use service codes with the factory time (I've not installed a normal rooted nougat rom yet, as I want to do tests beforehand and try to make the radio work).
Inside *#0011# My IMEI shows as passing, but I get an ASM MIPI DEVICE FAIL:
ASM MIPI DEVICE FAIL
DEVICE MOD=0x217 , PID=0x081
Non-Fatal MIPI DEVICE FAIL
DEVICE MOD=0x217 , PID=0x081
ASDiv : NOT SUPPORTED

I tried running the Samsung Mipi Repair Tool, it detects the info, I hit repair, says it's repaired and that it'll open a menu, which does NOT open. Yet, if I open a menu with *#27663368378# and then rebuild NV with: 2. Ue Setting Info-->1.Setting-->2.System-->3.nv rebuid-->3.all, and then turn the phone off (Factory doesn't seem to have reboot) and on, still the same MIPI issue.
So I'm guessing either the board around the charge port got damaged somehow during the trip (my friend tested the phone before shipping it to me from the US), or the connector for it got loose. Anyway, I'm worried I'll have to open the phone myself (I haven't found a trustworthy tech in here. Last time I took a phone to a "recommended" tech, they stole the OEM screen from my dad's J8. So, no more techs for me unless I can find one I can befriend, and trust). If the connector to the board is not lose (I'll reseat it) I'll have to look for a new board, either abroad or here, probably not oem and with a lousier usb-c port, and swap the boards... sigh.
Anyhow since this will take time, if anyone knows of any other program or procedure I can use to test things, please let me know. I will keep the factory rom on the phone, either as the sole one or in a rom slot in safestrap, so that I can keep doing tests.
I appreciate any hints or help anybody could provide.
