Hi all,
First time note user. i was wondering what are some good apps to install on the note 8. are there any apps specially designed for note 8 ?
Can you guys post the list of apps you use ?
Thanks for all the help!
I have hundreds of apps on my phone, many of which take advantage of the size, camera etc.
But specifically for the SPen function:
You have to install the old Action Memo.
Myscript Nebo - the Play store will tell you it doesn't work on our device, so you'll need to download it from apk mirror or similar. The handwriting to letter conversion is second to none.
Finally, Squid is a 3rd party notebook app that is great, really nice design.
Those are my less known pen apps.

Mind sharing the apk for my nebo and action notes since both of those are not in the playstore for us?
Sketchbook for Galaxy - you can get it from Galaxy Apps, s-note is the older version of samsung notes, but it has more functionality and I think we have a thread here how to get the best version, since it's not the newest one.
Most drawing/ sketching/painting programs will have much better functionality due to pointing precision of s-pen, but there are too many to list, but my kids love recolor from galaxy apps

He's right above, find the Action Memo topic for all the files and instructions!
Here's Nebo:

It asks for decryption key.
Microsoft remote desktop beta and onenote works very well with the s-Pen
Please try this for Nebo, not understanding why the share is working different on that side. I keep trying to pick links where you need no special hash/code

No, unfortunately. It's a paid version now, and blocked for download from Play Store because it's a tablet app? Frustrating.

One of the big things I REALLY need to be able to convert to using Android and my G-Tablet as a complete replacement on the road is an Image Editor that supports layers (filters as well would also be nice). I know there are a couple out there for the Chrome Web OS, so I would assume there has to be something at least as good for the Android? Or is there a way to run Chrome Apps under Android (or in one of the Android browsers)?
TIA!
I know that there's a Photoshop Express for Android but I'm not sure if it supports layers.
However, the Canvas App (in this thread) from the Adam port does support layers. I haven't had much time to play around with it so I'm not sure how 'robust' an app it is but you might want to check it out.
Photoshop Express for Android unfortunately doesn't have layers. Maybe in the future
Thanks for the Canvas link. Going to give that, and a web-based offering called Splashup a try tonight.

Market claims that while my Nexus One is compatible, that the G-tab isn't. Have you been able to run it on the G-tab?
If its the sketchbook mobile app it does work however u can't be running began or tnt. Needs to be zpad or CM

Have you tried Picsay Pro? It's a paid app but well worth it. Does layers.
I'm finding that many of these apps do "layers", but they don't do what "I" need from layers. For the sorts of things I do, I copy part of another picture, and then "Paste as New Layer". Both Canvas and PicSay support layers, but only for doing artwork in the program on the layer, which isn't a "true" layer where you could use a layer to try and add a color correction, and then an effect, and blow one or the other of those away by just dropping the layer.
Haven't been able to get to an APK for the Autodesk product. Evidently the "Market Fix" for Vegan, et al doesn't fix the entire market (I also can't seem to find Jet Car Stunts, but that's another thread).
The online editors are Flash based, but usually once you start to get into any heavy lifting they crash. I am going to take a look at Aviary since I think they have an HTML 5 based version.
FWIW...

Pointers to the thread that worked for you would be appreciated. I've tried the normal with stopping the market, clearing the cache, stopping the framework, rebooting - and while that shows more of the market, it doesn't show all of it.
Yes, I am looking for recommendations, but it's hard to say if a recommendation will actually work without trying it. I am not trying to avoid paying for anything, but I can't pay for it if the market won't let me DL it
Seriously, if someone can help me setup my market so I can see it, I will be more than happy to pay for the product.
In fact, I'm kind of surprised that more application providers don't offer an option to order and DL direct for just such circumstances. Does Autodesk really care if Google gets their cut?

OK, bought Root Explorer, and updated my Build.Prop. Took 24 hours, but the market finally recognized my Viewsonic as compatible with the Autodesk app, and I FINALLY was able to buy and install. The controls aren't the most intuitive, but it does exactly what I needed it to. Thanks!

Hi guys,
I really want to love the Xoom, I like android a lot and the hardware is too good (at least at this point)
But I not in place where I can drop my iPad for good. The reasons are pure app specific, if I get these decent on Xoom... it's bye bye iPad.
So this is a quasi-'need help' thread. to double check if I'm not missing anything
1. Magazine app - Something like Zinio, I depend too much on it and couldn't find even an ETA on when Zinio will be available for Android
~ Solved. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11939617&postcount=5
2. Comics reader - I know we have the Comics app but I need a cbr/cbz reader. I tired AVC but doesn't seam to work on Honeycomb
~ Solved. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11939617&postcount=6
3. A UI-nice IM app. I love the Gtalk app but need facebook and skype IM app
4. Netflix app.
5. Tablet specific twitter, facebook, foursquare apps. I know iPad doesn't have FB or FS apps but this would be nice
6. Now the big big deal... I consider all these tablets as a 'consumption' devices, and the biggest thing I 'consume' is movies and tv shows...
The best thing about iPad is, I just launch iTunes app then rent a movie, wait for sometime and then enjoy the movie...
Is there a way I can get this experience on a Xoom? I know that right now most of the HD formats play on tegra but is there any hope to get this?
~~~~~~~~~~
Disclaimer: Please don't pounce on this post and call me a iFreak. I'm not trying to diss the Xoom or Android. I did search and try apps to see if I could get all this... but couldn't find a way. So before I make a decision I just wanted some opinions.
thanks
A Market app that works...
Searches properly so you can find those Apps you want that may exist but you would never know.
Recognizes applications that have updates properly.
Doesn't randomly open other app's.
Actually installs Apps the first time you ask for them.
And why Google is at it, Tablet Section - more direct support on the Web Market while the programmer who is assigned to the tablet market app figures out how to code - bug fix.
(yes I am frustrated with the market today)
I don't remember if manga watcher loads cbz and crz files but in general it is really good app. It was recently updated to load local files from sd so it might be worth checking out. I know the dev does alot of work and updates it frequently. You might even write him and ask if he plans to add support for these files if they aren't already supported. I bought the full app and have been happy with it ever since.
All I have to say is Samurai Executioner.
ICS Note has both the old S Memo and the new S Note.
I have tried both. The S Note is very similar to S Memo, but has some extra new features of the Premium Suite.
I would say use S Note is good enough, but I am lost to see the reason for Samsung to include both apps. May be I missed something.
Can someone with good experience shed some light here?
Differences compiled from replies:
1. S Memo has a S Memo Lite (double tap with pen button pressed to quickly bring up app),
2. S Memo has widgets.
Unfortunately SNote does not have the double screen tap while pressing the SPen button to pop up a S Note Lite version ontop of any application running (pretty convenient for me actually). So in order to conserve that function they had to leave it installed.
OK. that counts one. Anything else?
If these are the only two features, I would say Samsung shall really merge the 2 apps into one. It should be an easy task for them.
I have read the other thread of yours. Your shared experience and others replies enhance my thought: Samsung did not think twice before launching S Note, may be it was in a rush to get out the Premium Suite.
My frustration is similar to yours: I do not want to use all three apps (and spend time on riding through the learning curves), but just one primary note taking tool. If I have to use all three apps with complimentary features, they should be easily synced and shared.
The app is preferred to be/have:
Nice features of S Note and the S Memo Lite (the quick double tapping feature),
Manageable. With all the different file name extensions and folder locations, I have problems in finding where the S Note, S Memo, and S Memo Lite files are.
Portable. Will S Note and S Memo still be around in a year time after the current hot Galaxy Note phone is superseded? May be Evernote is a better choice in this regard.
open S note notebooks in my desktop
Hi,
is there anyway to open the .snb notebooks in my desktop and edit them ... i love the app and use it as my daily diary ... but cant continue if i cant edit them and save them on desktop ...
please help
I have not found one.
S-features are nice, but not really suitable for notes that are to be kept and used in future.
I am going to use something like Evernote.
I am too a bit underwhelmed and puzzled by those two apps, the fragmentation and lack of critical features (like seamless sync to online with full editing support, not only picture edit) makes all this pen thingy little more than gimmick.
I installed mostly everything that was mentioned on xda (like quill, skitch, floatnote, etc) but still nothing clicks for me.
It looks like the companies develop such software just to have something nice to put on your home screen or to make some enticing marketing videos. It's a pity, especially that some features are very nice and surely there was some serious work put into them (like handwriting/ecuations recognition).
In the end even if I would really like to use more then notes and such I can't find myself using more than the following two features:
- screen shot editing
- handwritten formula for calculations (via search->wolframalpha).
Both because they are mostly self-contained and once the activity is over I'm done, so no further editing/sync/open format/ future proofing is needed.
Any chance some enterprising dev could get this running on our nexus 7's
AOKP got this request recently.
Seems a Cornerstone build would be the only way out...which is unlikely.
I'm fully aware this would probably be quite difficult to port, and likely quite time consuming.
Having said that, I also want this. It makes so much more sense on a 7 inch tablet then a 5 inch whatever.
This works with a handful of Google Apps, no other apps. I don't see the point.
Running 2 apps at the same time. Seems like a great idea to me. It supports a limited amount of apps, but unlike Galaxy Note 10.1, you could probably hack in other apps to work.
Yes, but the Galaxy Note 2 supports all apps in multi-window mode...
This would be *nice* to have but I don't know how much easier it would be then to just multitasking between 2 apps now and having the apps full screen. I can see some of the benefits like watching a youtube video while chatting on Google Talk. There are some good alternatives such as popup video players and notepads that overlay on top of current app and typically are resizable and movable.
While it makes sense this would be better on a 7" then a 5"... it really would be best on a 10". 7" barely gives me enough breathing room for 1 app. Plus most of the "compatible apps" are simple things like a calculator and notes
Well it seems VERY useful to me.
It's better than popup apps in my opinion - more app options.
Overscreen browser is a great alternative for now
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
No, it's not.
This allows multiple apps to run side by side, Overskreen is just the browser. Also, it's not even compatible with Jelly Bean, so no one who owns a Nexus 7 can use it.
No, as I said, handful of specific Google apps. Read up on it. Will the list grow? Maybe? I'd have to guess it is a sdk used to support the function, is it worth app dev time to do it and possibly maintain multiple versions of their app?
more then google apps
Not just google apps can do this on the samsung note 10.1 .
samsng snote and lecture app
browser
vidoe player
picture gallery
polaris office
Photo shop (special note version)
I think there a few others that are on the samsung web app store. Samsung sbe adding apps to this.
Now for the bubble burst. The reason they work on the galaxy note is the new QUAD Core cpu and 2 GB Very fast ram .. samsung tried to release a less ram/power version of the 10.1 note with a higer res display. they backed the display down and increased the cpu//ram. this is also to support the WACOM S PEN..
I have been reading alot about the device because mine will be here Monday. So the above if from my reading and research. I can update you more mid next week.. I do not see a need for split windows on a 7 inch screen .. get the overscreen browser and try it.. JUST Does not work for productive work...
Hope this help make it more understandable... too bad samsung did not make the n7 . i give up because of the screen issues sent two of them back and will NOT order a 3rd...
Dude. Overskreen DOES NOT work on Jelly Bean. And it is just one app, vs an entire suite of Google Apps.
Also there's no need for window management.
Nexus 7 has a quad-core processor too, just less RAM - which isn't even a problem, it still can handle side by side apps.
And you're telling some weird stuff here. We are talking about Galaxy Note 2, which allows more apps, and works better. AND it works on a 5 inch screen, so it'll be awesome on a seven inch.
So yeah, please don't come back with your 'research' to tell us that you think that this feature is unnecessary.
i hope sincerely as a dev can make a mod for port this feature in future beacause it's very usefull even if work only with google apps it's better ,
anyone know if a moded youtube apps existing for play a video on background because i search since 3 month but not find ?
thx
I don't think there is one, sadly. Android doesn't support true multitasking
While i would love to have or port this it simply isnt possible, it requires a lot of changing to the frameworks and it would be hard to decompile all of samsungs sources and extract it.
Stock android not, but there are a few roms with cornerstone, i think mainly on 10 inch tablets.
