How to connect the s2 Tab to Windows XP? - Galaxy Tab S2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

How to connect the s2 Tab to Windows XP?
I tried the USB drivers, Kies 2 & 3 as well as Smart Switch they all failed to install.

probably because google and Samsung doesn't support old versions of windows like that

Well, here is the thing, I had an older version of Kies which did work in 2015. Now, I cannot install it anymore for it asks for INTERNET even though it has INTERNET. This software claims not to have INTERNET. So apparently it does not get the permission from Samsung's network. Thus Samsung does planned obsolescence.
Beware of OS updates = planned obsolescence! And it will not happen instantaneously but over the course of months; perhaps a year.

Is there a way to do a reverse teather?

I am scheduled to Deploy to Iraq later this fall and will be taking my trusty N1.
In Iraq you pay an incredible amount of money for the internet it is something like $75 for 96k. One on the down falls is you link up via cat5. I had my HTC Touch Pro last time and I was able to update data etc surf the internet using active sync via miniusb while it was plugged in to my laptop. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
Not sure if this will work on the N1 (do any custom ROMs support ad-hoc WiFi?), but worth a shot: http://modmymobile.com/forums/491-jailbreak-root-access/544146-connect-g1-ad-hoc-network-solved.html (skip to "Step 3" for instructions on changing the tiwlan.ini file).
P.S. Needs root for obvious reasons.
If you run Windows 7 check out www.connectify.me It will turn your current connection into a wifi access point on through your computer's wireless device

Thanks for that link, I'll have to try it out!
[Edit]
Unfortunately Connectify's Access Point mode is only supported on a limited number of WiFi cards, as seen here. My fairly new (1 year old) Lenovo X61 Tablet can only do Ad-Hoc, which still requires modding the wpa-supplicant on the N1. At that point Connectify becomes useless, since you can enable ICS in Windows on your own.
sweet and thanks. i am using this in-flight on gogo so i have access to two devices and only pay for one.
Sorry you are having issues, but yea not all cards are supported. Luckily, both my desktop and laptop have been compatible. My laptop initially had issues because I was not on the newest drivers for the wireless card. If your card isn't directly listed on the unsupported list, it might be worth it to try and upgrade drivers and test one more time.
Unfortunately I am running Xp on my laptop.

The first link is a guide for setting up an ad-hoc connection on Windows XP, the second is a link to a change to the Android source code that's been abandoned 2 months ago.
The good news is that according to the comments on the 2nd link Google is working on implementing Ad-Hoc support. The bad news is that it's not in FroYo, so we might have to wait for Gingerbread to see it. Of course, there's nothing preventing CyanogenMod team from implementing this change into CM6, so they would be the best people to ask about it.
In the network settings on my mac you can 'broadcast' your connection. The tutorial I read showing me how to do that said windows has a similar feature.
You can use travel router and setup internet sharing...
Source: you have to right-click the connection source->properties->advanced and setup the internet sharing.
Destination: If you have a spare ethernet jack, GOOD! Use it.
I know some Ralink-based wifi cards support virtual AP mode (the best bet are Hawking and Asus and I have both).

[Q] Updating a Korean Galaxy S on a Mac

So yeah, I'm stuck in Korea for a bit, so I picked up a Galaxy S, and been dying to try out Swype, but the update only came out a week or so ago. But.. I'm using a Mac, and I have absolutely no idea how to update this. Anyone have any ideas? I can't use Kies, but I've downloaded a factoryfs.rfs that seems legit (316 megs?) but no idea how to use it.
Anyone got any ideas? I know I'm gonna have this problem too when 2.2 comes out.
on MAC you can install WinXP in virtual mode
then install Kies to the virtual WinXP
then connect the phone to the virtual WinXP
use Kies to update
If you haven't already updated my two biggest recommendations are, either do it at a work or friend's computer. Or you can take it to a Samsung Plaza, there are a few in every major city, and get the upgrade done there for free. Also, a firmware is posted over at samsungmobile.com (I think it's not the most current since it was released on the 19th IIRC), you might not need Kies for it, but I can't check since.

[Q] USB Not Recognized.

So I got my Samsung Galaxy Tab (sprint CDMA version) today and when I first plugged it into my computer the drivers installed fine. I was able to mount the sd card and transfer files with ease. I then proceeded to root the device hoping to put a new rom on it, I've got a captivate and am not a rookie at all when it comes to flashing roms via odin, cwm, etc...I first put the device into debugging mode which is where things got weird. As soon as I put the device into debugging mode and plugged it in via usb it immediately became "unrecognizable". I have the correct updated drivers for the device both from the Samsung website and via the Android SDK tools. There should be no reason why this happened. So I then took it out of usb debugging and plugged it back in and bam, again, "USB Device not recognized". I've been installing and uninstalling drivers, the device itself from the device manager, and have been trying other numerous ideas. I've been Googling and searching for hours upon hours at this point and don't know what to do next. Odin does NOT recognize the device when in download mode and the device does charge when connected to the computer. I have tried a different cord with the device and different computers and it's all the same story, works until debugging is enabled then it will no longer work no matter what. I am fairly sure at this point the device itself is malfunctioning or defected but I wanted the opinion of others before sending it back. I am pretty sure have tried everything and am doing everything right. Please help if you can, if not I still appreciate your time! Specs are listed below:
Hardware Version
P100.08
Model Number
SPH-P100
Firmware Version
2.2.1
Kernel Version
2.6.32.9

1. Just wondering, have you installed Kies before connecting the tab to your PC?
2. The SGT will not charge "normally" with a USB connection. It will trickle charge, which is very slow way of charging, and the device will not indicate that it is charging. Does your device indicate it's charging? (As stated above)
Hit thanks if I deserve it..
FWIW, My SPH-P100 Sprint Galaxy Tab has been an adventure as well. Enough so that I wish I'd known more and held out for a GSM model.
I am not even sure if Kies and/or Odin will in fact work with the Sprint GT. I've had almost no luck with a variety of attempts. Even the widely used ClockWorkMod Recovery does not include the Sprint GT among its list of supported devices. It does include the CDMA Verizon GT - and some folks have posted that they eventually got that to work.
I did get the SuperOneClick to work and setup root privileges on my tab. That part works fine. But so far I've been reluctant to experiment too much with the various tools that "almost appear that they should work" as I have too little experience with this Android tablet environment to feel comfortable that I can recover from the eventual disaster.
Am hopeful that Samsung will in fact follow through on their commitment to provide upgrade of all GTs to Gingerbread 2.3.3. If so that may be enough for my needs. I WOULD like to get the Netflix viewer app working. Is frustrating to already have a Netflix account and not be able to access it via my GT. A guy down the hall can get Netflix on his Droid X - which really bugs me! lol
IMHO, Google/Samsung/Motorola/HTC/etc. have done a horrible job rolling out Android - both on phones and tablets. Netflix really highlighted this when they decided to do device-by-device testing and certification before allowing Android devices access to their movies. Apparently the 'capabilities' inherent to various Android devices varies so much (and not just OS version) makes it difficult to roll out something as simple as Netflix access. It is frustrating. And the only "solution" so far is to wildly 'hack' your device in the hope that you'll shake something loose enough to make it work as you wished it had when you bought it.
Enough whining for now. But it has been a very frustrating and disappointing experience.
I installed Kies AFTER installing drivers and connecting the tablet and it has no effect. I also learned after googling that kies does not support the sprint cdma version though I could be wrong but many people have stated this. And the device does charge and does so very fast actually, 20% to 100% in 4 hours. I don't think it's trickling down as you say because it is very clearly charging at a fast pace. Thanks for the quick response though! And I have also tried superoneclick root and other methods i.e odin but neither can find the device. I know some people have had luck with this sort of thing after upgrading the rom and/or flashing firmware onto the device which I would love to try but unfortunately without windows being able to see the device, none of this is even remotely possible.
I think the reference to slow charging on USB is really refering to using a data USB port on a notebook or desktop computer. This is because the data USB ports are limited in how much current they will pass. My SPH-P100 will in fact charge on a data USB port - but very, very slowly. In fact if the device is ON it may just barely be breaking even.
The USB charger is certainly capable of charging at a very reasonable rate.
I'm still waiting on the 2.3.3 update that Samsung has promised. It only took them 5 months to get the 2.2.1 update out for my Fascinate! So maybe we'll see the 2.3.3 update by Thanksgiving...or Christmas...or...

[Q] Kies problems

I have just got a new PC windows 7 64 bit
Now i got kies to work no problems until it said there was a update i set it off it then came back with a error message as it was trying to connect to samsung
I have Kies as a exception on my firewall i have the same version as what was on my old PC which did the update for me but i want to get the new Pc working any thoughts
Kies struggles with many non-XP rigs. (And that's not even perfect)
If you can, learn the basics of using Odin. You get firmwares much faster, and its more computer/phone friendly.
Kies has issues with so many different setups. You can have up to date drivers with the firewall off, and it still just sits there.
The bottom line, it's not you...

[Q] Kies via WiFi

I cant seem to get mine to work, I run the kies via wifi on the Gnote after I have kies running on the PC, my note does not list my PC under detected devices. I've tried to disable the windows firewall and turned off my Nod32. Any other things worth trying?
Im using XXKK9 if it matters, rooted with chainfire's KK9
sounds like youre doing it wrong so i'll list it from the start.
on your phone, first connect to the same wifi router as your PC (your pc can be connected to the router wirelessly or via network cable).
then run kies air on your note. hit the start button.
the note will then give you an address to type into your pc's address bar. normally this is similar to the gateway your modem is on. generally its http://192.168.1.*:port number/ i think port number may default to 8080 or something.
then once you log into the page on your website, you'll get a prompt on your note asking you about an access request, and whether or not you wish to allow access from the pc accessing the website. just tap allow.
and viola, access your note via wifi.
I don't connect with Kies on PC. Open webrowser and type in Adress, showing on phone. Or click Help on Phones Kies air and follow steps there.

I can get Kies AIR to work w/o any issues at all, FYI. Kies AIR and Kies WiFi are two different things.
This is Kies wifi

Jump to 0:36, mine doesnt list my PC.
Again kies air works 100%, no issues nothing what so ever.. I just need Kies Wifi to work.

Hey EarlZ
Only just come accross this post and not by pc so not sure if this is going to help as its purely from memory from setting up a friends SGS2...
If i remember correctly, there's a setting in Kies 2 on PC you need to enable labelled "use kies over wifi". I noticed that wasnt mentioned in the YouTube video posted. Hopefully this helps, but perhaps they haven't extended this service for the Note, but it would be odd if they've done that!
But yes, i have used this method and is much more reliable and more options than Kies Air.

I cant seem to find that option under kies.
Yeah, sorry EarlZ
On looking at the pc, can see that option is not available. Tye next time i'm at my mates i'll check version numbers, but it does appear its no longer available.

Hi EarlZ
Finally managed to find it... if you go into Settings/Wireless and Network/Kies via Wi-Fi on your Note and enable it.
You need to enable that and then when you're on the same network as your pc, Kies will ask if you want to connect with your device.
Hope this helps
Good and bad news.
Good news are:
Just updated KIES to new version 2.1.1 and KIES wifi do works now. Theres a instruction too on new KIES how to enable KIES wifi.
Bad news are:
Connect to KIES with USB cable dont work for me now. Reinstalled drivers for 3 times, same ****.
Why do Samsung even bother to release such crappy **** like KIES.
@DT33
Have you disabled "use kies wifi" on your handset when trying to reconnect via usb?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
Yeah the latest update now allows the note to connect.
