Note 8 Camera pictures (Quality, Blurry, Noisy) problem - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions & Answers

I have both, s8+ and Note 8. I first got the s8+ and was really happy with the quality of the pictures. then I got the Note 8 expecting to be able to get even better ones, but outcome was totally different. Actually the Note 8 pictures come out really out-focused and burry, even with a lot of noise in comparison with the pictures I've taken with the s8+. I'm really disappointed with that problem I'm having with the Note8 as I was expecting it to be my main device. Is there someone who's experiencing the same problem with the Note8? Does anyone know if there is any solution to this?
Any comment or help will be really appreciated!

I have to try real hard to take a burry picture, I would get it exchanged.

Thanks... I was afraid that was the solution. Will do so. I'm glad tho to know I was the only one and not that all the devices had the same issues that mine has, so I can just exchange it for another one and everything is going to be fine.

UPDATE:
I exchanged my note 8 for a new one. Surprise it's still has the same problem (with the camera taking blurry and noisy pictures). That compared to others Note8's and my own S8+
Came to realize something. My S8 is the F version (International) which has a different CPU and GPU than the U version (US). Is the same with the Note8. the F and the U versions have different CPUs and GPU's. Maybe the different GPU is what's doing the difference by processing the image differently. What do you guys think?

Definitely think it's just a US problem which I hope is fixed soon. I switched from iPhone to the note 8 and the camera is making me regret this decision

I live in Sweden and i have a Note 8, F version (sm-n950f) same problem, noisy and griny pictures.
much worse than my old phone galaxy S7 edge.

Yeah my note 8(U) prints are worthless! I spent years talking with an online Samsung rep., and I wish they could refund me the time and energy I wasted with him. Although, i found it I send the pic to my printer via email the printer is substantially better. But still not nearly as crisp as any of my other devices (moto play z, galaxy S6). ...im really hoping they release an update?, offe any kind of solution as I have a daughter ...and I require a lot of amazing pictures!

Does Note have same camera / video recording issues like Galaxy S2

Like in topic. The worse thing in S2 for me is it's terrible video performance. I got fujitsu chip, and there is some solution to improve framerate (focus issue) but the cost is lack of light diode, which I cannot loose. So here come's my question - is it worth moving into Note? I now there are some advantages /dis, I'm well aware of all of this. But it's hard to find any complaints for both S2 and Note camera - what doesn't acctually mean that there is nothing to complain about. Maybe just that some people doesn't find that so crucial for their phone. I do, so please help me If I see advertise saying 1080p 30fps = thats what I assume to have. Samsung Wave made better quality movies than my current S2. Maybe it's caused by this particular model, it's quite possible I think, but I just want to know if it's worth moving further into galaxy family, or maybe to switch to another company...
thx in advance.
Yes same issues, its all about the luck of the draw on which camera module you get. There was a thread about that here.
I decided to go on the black side of power, and get one Note. How can I see if seller offers Note that is damaged due to it's camera chip? Is there simple instruction I could ask the seller to follow to give me information I need? Please help me not to waste 430euro
Have 4 Notes and they all shoot great pics/movies. Earl seems to think every Note has a defect.
any way to check the hardware chip + firmware on note? I'm in the middle of bargain talk with seller
any1? i'm really in need here ;(

Yeah, keep asking him why he's still around spreading negativity, since he reputedly sold his Note, but no reply. Guess he likes trolling...

do you mean by that, that Note is free of those problems that some of S2 had/has?
well my note takes nice pics and videos, but the best recording mode for samsung galaxy note ( and i think for s2 either) is 720p, ive read in a review that in 1080p the light is different, more bright or something like that and the picture is "stretching" when you move your phone more in 1080p than in 720p( and thats true), i think that video is pretty smooth, but camera in s2 and note is almost the same, for phone i think its enough

Is it worth getting a pixel 2 for the camera or is the note 8 with mods as good?

Is it worth getting a pixel 2 for the camera or is the note 8 with camera mods as good?
I ask this because I am trying to figure out which phone to get, if I am going to spend a small fortune, I don't want to regret it. For me I would consider the note 8, pixel 2 xl, the lg v30 (if the v30 is available in my region), sony xz premium. The iphone x I'd consider, but I'm doubtful unless reviews suggest there is something amazing.
The most important features for me are screen and camera. I do like the note 8 extras, but I could keep my note 5 which I use for vr occasionally, and with my gear 360.
Has anyone installed the exynos zero camera mod and hdr+ google camera port? How well do they work? Are there any video comparisons with these modifications? Also does the Samsung camera sensor have 10 bit colour?
I like taking sunset photographs and low light, dynamic range is probably more important to me than pixel peeping or other characteristics in most photos I take. For my use the note 5 camera with exposure lowered and less noise is preferred when I don't have my Sony dslr.
I'm thinking given the video and camera mods and ports to buy the note 8 exynos if possible ( best hardware) when it's on offer in the future and then just use the hdr+ app and zero camera mod. Any thoughts on this from note 8 owners?
Also is the note 8 worth the price now that you have bought it? Are there any problems?
I can tell you this: when somebody buys a galaxy note, the main atractive should be the s pen and screen size, if these things are not important to you, then get a pixel or v 30 or any good camera phone, simple
Go for The Xperia XZ Premium
I run 2 phones - Pixel XL and the Note 8 - I buy th note 8 because ive always had the note line until the 5 wasnt sold in UK (I imported but lack of SD at time made me sell) and the Note 7 (No reason needed to be given )
The note 8 by far is the best phone i have used from SAMSUNG if you only take into account their products. Pixel XL is for the puriest. I am debating getting the XL2 but wont do so until renewal in Feb next year.
Smartphone cameras these days have reached a point on Flagships where no matter which you go for - You will be impressed.
Id get the Note 8 solely for the extras it offers. Yes its not pure android but custom roms are coming out to help remove bloatware.
Ive had MANY phones in my time and these are the pinnacle of all my experience - For a better feel - Id get the Note 8 - ~JerryRigEverything tore the Pixel 2 apart and it wasnt pretty...

I think @winol said it best. Imo the note 8 is the best phone for 2017 period. The reason is simple. It will beat every other phone at most things not all. The iPhone 8 has a better processor, the Pixel has a better camera etc... But in the end the s-pen puts it in a league of its own. Even if you don't always use it. It'll save your a** in a pinch. So if your only criteria is a camera. Go for the Pixel XL.

I have read mixed reviews about the camera in the Pixel....Sorry, I cant even say that name without thinking the Pixel should be sold at Toys-R-Us? No offence I just cannot stand the appearance of the Pixel range as they look like toys. That is a totally subject view so ignore it.
Cameras. Not my forte so cant really add much to the debate. I understand the Note 8 has a decent camera?
As for a mobile phone the Note series is built around the S-pen. I would never even consider a Note if I had no use for that lovely S-pen experience. Its a mouse that makes ones mobile into a pocket PC. NO other mobile yet does that.

Pixel 2 is overpriced imo....it's basically an iPhone running Android imo

He said he wants a good camera. The camera on the XZ Premium is a steaming pile of CRAP. Complete garbage. Returned that phone within days of getting it because the camera was so bad.
Depends on what you do with your camera. I just want to record a moment with decent color, in focus, and so on without trying. I'm at no time looking to take a picture that will be art although like most people I have from time to time taken some truly great pictures because even a monkey banging on a keyboard will eventually get some Shakespeare. So I think the first thing that comes up is what do you want out of your camera?
As to the XL having a better camera I'm not quite sure that is true. When I look at the comparisons myself and do it blind I will often pick pictures from either camera as being better. The same holds true with the cool-aid device as well, I will pick pictures from both phones as being better when compared side to side. IMO cell phone cameras have just flat become great on the higher end and are better at taking pictures than most of us.
One last thing, Samsung has had one strength in their cameras for the last couple years that in a review a while back was called the fast moving child factor. This is where you pull the phone and immediately snap a pick of a fast moving object like your kids hoping to catch a moment that will soon be gone forever. You're not going to frame that photo, manipulate the objects in it, adjust your setting, you pull your phone and push the button and pray you got it. Samsung gets that one right. The 8 is better than the Pixel by a good margin, cant compare to the Pixel 2 because I don't have one. I did see a review that called out the iphone as being better at that sort of shot than the XL and in turn I know the Note 8 to be as good or better than the iphone in this area. Something to think about.
To go back to the beginning I think for most people the cameras on flagships are becoming a non factor. They're damn good and better at taking photos than their users. If this applies to you then forget about the camera and look at the other features. If the camera is paramount then you may want to widen your scope and consider the Sony.
Nowadays all smarthlones are using sony imx sensor, the diffrence is in software artifacts.
Why XZ Premium? Imx 400!
Iphone8 imx 398, s8 imx333 4k, pixel 2 imx 3xx
Imx400 is a sleeping monster! ?
P. S. XZP when you come home tired and wanna play some 4k hdr 60fps on your brand New 4k hdr smartTV ????
If photography is very important why not do the obvious thing and buy a dedicated prosumer camera?
Music is important to me so I am buying an external DAC-Amp that will enhance the sound from any mobile beyond imagination. Such DAC-Amp's when connected to the USB negate the internal DAC Amp of the mobile allowing a dedicated external device to produce the sound and the mobile is used as the source only.
If one is only mildly interested in music and cameras then any top notch present day flagship mobile should suffice. Its always going to be a question of compromise.
Most high end mobiles use Minolta cameras that are now owned by and called Sony. To that end I would imagine going to the font of the camera, ie Sony, one could not go wrong as they supply most of the trades cameras for mobiles at this level.

I agree! I have a Note8 myself because I actually do use the pen features.
If a user wants to get a Galaxy Note device but not use the pen features, they should have instead got a plus-sized Galaxy S series (like the S8+), another Android phone, or even wait for the release of the next Galaxy S series.
What was saddening for me, was when I went to a friend's house last week to fix their PC, and found his wife uses a Note5 with the S Pen intentionally jammed inside the phone (like the top of the pen appeared to have been hammered in), to the point where it can never come out without taking apart the phone. This to me feels like when (insert metaphor here relating to my favourite TV show)
At least, from what I've seen, the Pixel 2 is a better phone for someone who doesn't need pen features on their phone, and would prefer taking photos, plus staying within Google's ecosystem.
Just sideload the pixel camera. It makes the note take much better photos.

The Pixel 2 XL has been having multiple issues with the camera, I'd go with the Note 8. I've had friends that returned it for a new one only to have the same camera issues.
note 8 for me all the way for camera + big screen + spen i sold my s8+ to get note 8 for me it was well worth it i love it and wouldnt have anythin els
For what it's worth, both the Pixel and the iPhones are having quality and reliability issues that the Note 8 isn't.
I'm not a photographer, so I can't expound on the virtues of the Pixel over the Note 8, nor have I even held a Pixel of either generation in my hand. I can say that I am more impressed with the picture quality of my Note 8 than I was with the LG V20, and not just a little bit. I use my phone's camera to capture a moment. If I want to get artsy, I'll grab the Nikon.
A phone is a compromise. Some do better at one thing than another. The LG V series does music better than almost any other phone, for example. I have over 300GB of high resolution music. I don't even consider a phone that doesn't support an SD card.
To get a true reading on what the OP is asking will require true photographers that have experience with the various cameras to check in. There aren't many people that will fit that bill.

Start here.
Personally I went with the note 8, I had previously the s8 that j was happy with but put it down to try the pixel. While the pixel was great I didn't go with a pixel 2 because of hown Google customer support is. November 1st I was told 3-5 business days to get my replacement cause my pixel was having issues. It is now November 23rd and every 2 days I get told theres no updates wait another 48 hours because they cannot in their words allocate a replacement device for me. I was waiting to get the pixel 2 but after this experience I went and got a note 8 and I love it couldn't be happier best Sammy device I've used and best Android I've used.
I've used the s5, HTC one m8, nexus 5, s7 edge note edge, pixel and one plus 5
For what it's worth I own the note 8 and recently purchased the original pixel XL 128gb and I am absolutely in love with the pixel XL. That said the note 8 is an amazing device and the camera is great. However the pixel 2 XL is just better. I'll be getting the 2xl soon to go with my note 8.

Wait for Note 9 or buy now?

I really want the Note. Almost bought the 7 before I moved across the world, then all that happened. Been waiting and waiting.. but the fingerprint reader location and speaker quality is a no go for me..
Even if all they do in the note 9 is move the fingerprint reader to the front and improve the speakers then I probably want to wait for the 9.
Fingerprint reader to front
Better speaker(s)
Think the will?
S9 leaks are not giving me much hope.
No word about some things like camera and speakers yet but the fingerprint reader is just as bad as S8. Just as curved screen. Barely anything..
you want to wait 9 months?
thought the leaks put the scanner under the camera in the middle of the phonr?
They haven't done it yet, but who knows what might come in the future...at this point it's really just a guess. If those features are truly deal breakers then I guess the answer is to wait for now, but then again no guarantee they will be there in Note 9 either... at least as of now, as far as I know... . Note 8 is still a great phone imo, but features mean different things to different people of course.

The leaks are for the S9 moving scanner to under the camera.
It's widely hoped/believed that Note 9 will have it in the display but nothing for sure yet.
I will wait for sure if the phone is a compromise in too many ways.
No need to spend money on something better in some ways and more difficult to use in others.
It should be all around better. Ideally...
Yes. You can sell used or trade in but the fact is still you spent $400-$500 that year for what?

There have been Zero leaks or rumors about the S10 or the Note 10.

That is for the s9. Hopefully the Note 9 will have it where the home button is.
Anyway, for the S9 it looks really similar to the S8, s8 Plus except the finger print scanner is set up slightly different in the back. Otherwise the phone basically looks just like the s8 and will have a newer processor. Otherwise looks like nothing much different on the s9 versus the Note 8. If you have a Note 8 I wouldn't upgrade to the s9. People with the s8 might hold off too.

If they don't even improve the speakers or add some form of dual speakers it really will just be a processor bump.
Not very compelling.
But if the Note 9 puts the scanner under the screen and improves the speakers that will be a very big change.
Just get a V30 and be happy. I got one for my girl and she loves it. The screen is great , speakers are alot better (quad dac also) and the buttons seem to be on a place you would like. I pretty much bet Samsung will never fix audio , and who knows where the fingerprint reader will be. Might as well be happy with your phone, not sure why you would want a phone that doesn't have what you want on it.

I don't think you get the point....
Every new phone will be awesome in the first week of release, then come the nitpicks.
You either bite the bullet at some time or will be window shopping from now to eternity, there is always gonna be a bigger better piece of hardware as tech doesn't (generally) de-evolve and there will always be something that will annoy...
That's the human condition, to never be satisfied for long...
Anyway, your choice....
If you wait for the Note 9 then you can wait for the Note 10 or 11.
Do what a normal person would do and buy them all.

V30 is a great phone. Shocker from lg.
Just the screen issues, camera isn't quite right and I want the pen.
If it was 3t price it would help it a lot.
Was really hoping Huawei would nail the mate 10 but they messed it up big time with the too hot, too cold models. Their prices are always too high too.
When Samsung flagships starts to come down in price a few months after release it's hard to see the point in buying anything else.
Can get a note 8 for 720, V30 for 850, mate 10 pro for $850. I'll take the note..

I don't think every new phone is awesome. Many aren't worth "upgrading".
So yeah. There is a good time and phone to buy. Keeping phones for 2-3 years is smart. Especially as we are hitting the 1k level. The cost of "upgrade"itus keeps getting higher.
Our phones have become too addictive. Many aren't being sensible.

Help me migrate from iPhone 6s Plus

Good day and a happy new year. I am considering a switch from apple again and this is my target device. The things i need your help deciding are the below, in order of priority (for me) :
-Thermals. I have been switching between iphones and androids for many years. And so far all androids i owned (most samsung devices) tend to heat up even with the most normal of uses. My last switch from s7 edge to Iphone 6s Plus was purely due to that. You could feel the device back heating just from surfing on wifi indoors. Please advise how the Note 9 performs in this task.
-Camera . It is widely said that Note 9 camera does not handle motion at all . For example , shooting a person that moves or an animal, will surely result in a blurry photo. Just how bad is the situation ?
-Background applications resource usage . In my last experience with android (s7e 7.1) just about any application could run any way it wanted and hog resources/battery without any consent whatsoever. I get the benefits of multitasking but if the trade off is me losing control of what is going on i need to take it in consideration. Please advise how the Note 9 performs in this task (current android version it runs atm).
-Storage speed . iPhones over 6+ are using nvme type flash storage wich is stupid fast. I cannot find any nand benchmarks for the note 9 exynos model. Any info on that? Also what type of nand does it use(very important for future proofing).
-Processor .I n my region the only note 9 available is the one with exynos (SM-N960F). how does it perform compared to the snapdragon variant ?
-GPS . As you may have heard, iPhone GPS accuracy and lock speeds are out of this world. Is note 9's performance in this area satisfactory? (again for the exynos model).
- Any one here switched from iphone to note 9 ? Maybe you could share something that you would consider useful to know beforehand ?
So sorry to hit you with that wall of text but for me €800+ for a phone is kind of a big deal (for my current financials). That is mostly why i had to rule out the XS Max in the first place (€1350+ where i live).
Camera wise the IQ from the N9 is quite a bit better, and in Pro mode i have no issues with movement. The screen on the N9 is in another league. Resource use wise, yes Samsung has a lot of junk but it's easy enough to delete (even system) junk even on an unrooted phone, and even the ones you keep you can control each app individually for resource use (mobile data, battery). Processing wise the iPhones have always been solid but the N9 is very slick to. I've had mine a month and no heating issues at all not even a little. Battery life wise i get 7odd hours off SoT and about 60 odd hours between charges. Best phone I've ever had, and the SPen functionality is amazing!
Exynos is at least as good as Snapdragon, probably a bit better actually if you read the forums. GPS is very good I've had no issues.
I had an iPhone 7 a few years back but it cannot compete at all with the N9 imho.

Well to be fair compare e iphone 6s plus to the note 9 is a hit pointless.... Any category you will se better performance l. Software wise S9 and note 9 are the android phones from Samsung that will never slow down at all. Then leaves the software experience that android and apple offers that should be where you make your decision...

Why is it that they will not slow down at all ?
In my experience all androids start to slow down after the 6-8 months mark.
I had my S8+ for over a year and never saw any decrease in performance, i cleared dalvik cache every once in a while and never saw any performance drop.

I currently am using both the Note 9 snapdragon version and the iPhone xs max and BOTH phones are very fast. Without hitting every point I'll try to answer the overall questions you have. For me the one thing I like better about the iphone is the physical size of the phone. I like that it's a touch thicker and wider, just feels a bit better balanced in my hand but that's it. I have not had any issues with my Note getting warm, even a little bit. I use Package Disabler from the play store and freeze the apps, even processes which I don't want taking up resources on my phone. I think I paid a couple of bucks for the app but it works well. The photos I've taken with the phone have been fine but I'm not taking pictures everyday. I just can do so much more with my Note, the secure folder is almost like having a second phone plus the s pen can't be beat. I try new ios devices when they come out but I always get bored with them after a few weeks which is not the same feeling I get with Android. I will say ios feels a lot more Android like with the latest version then it did a few years ago but it's still too boring for me. The best analogy I've heard is ios is for people that like to play checkers and Android is for people that like to play chess.
Hope that helps,
Try the Note 9....end of story!

Thank you so very much mate..
Just one last question.
How much truth do all this fuss about blurry photo hold ? is the device hardware/software really that bad at shooting moving objects? i hear that ppl cannot even get nice photos of grass/pet furr etc . that is my only gripe.
I also use Note 9 and iPhone XS Max. The only thing I really love with the Note 9 is the secure folder function and the split screen for two apps at the same time. That’s alone make me keeping my Note.
The camera in the iPhone is better in every aspect and that is when using auto mode. Don’t have the time to fiddle with pro mode. And the problems with fur and other details in photos are really there so not that impressed with the Note camera.
The pen is nice but I don’t use it that much as I thought I would as I find the Note 9 screen to narrow to really use it in a good way for notes.
They are both really speedy devices and haven’t had any slowdowns in them. Both flying, sure the Note can have some micro lag sometimes but nothing that disturbs me.
The battery holds up much better in my iPhone with the same usage pattern but the Note still has a pretty nice battery. The speakers are much better in the iPhone. But they are not bad on the Note.
And the gesture navigation on the XS is outstanding as is Face ID. I miss this two things very much when using the Note
I have the exynos version and the snapdragon is said to be better on battery and speed

I have not had any issues with taking pictures, as I stated I don't take pictures every day but I do take my fair share of them. I was recently in Southern Germany/Austria and Hungary for an extended trip and I took many photos without any problems using my Note exclusively. I do agree with easycure1974, the battery on the iphone xs max is better, I still have about 60 to 70% left in my Note at the end of the day but maybe 70-80% left on my iphone. Both are very good but the iphone has better battery management.
Thank the both of you very much.
To be honest XS MAX is the one i wanted, but the cost is very close to double of that of the note 9. and it definately is not 2x better.
Yet again , thank you. i will most probably just on the note wagon soon !

Why is it that they will not slow down at all ?
In my experience all androids start to slow down after the 6-8 months mark.

Well to be fair my S8 didn't slow down my S9 plus never lost a beat and never had a app crash n9 the best phone all the S9 plus good with the large battery brighter screen and a pen.
Had iPhone 6s iPhone 7 plus 8 and iPhone x and n9 for me is the whole package.
I've switched from the iPhone 7 plus to this phone and the difference is day and night. You cant even compare the two at all. My battery is insane. Background operations are managed very well to the point where my SOT hits 7.5-8 hours easily. This phone is literally the best phone you can buy now a days. The only thing I miss is iOS and it's cleaner design. I can't wait for the note 10. Options are endless on this phone. I've had literally zero issues for the 2 months I've had this phone. And now the android pie release this month will make it even better. You won't regret it if you're not hooked to the apple "ecosystem"

Btw i am not wealthy enough to be "hooked" on the ecosystem
I mean i do buy music/apps/books alot, from itunes but the iPhone is about the only apple device i have (no watches, tablets, laptops, desktops,tv,routers etc).

You'll love the battery life on this phone. And good on not being hooked. Same here. I never buy anything other products beside an iPhone every once in a while. But I always go back to android. This time this note is hooking me with its goodness. I don't even miss iPhone. ::highfive::

If you plan on taking pics of your furball babies you will be disappointed.

Oh...well that is not good. so the lens is not capable of sharp pictures? e.g. it cannot shoot individual hair ?
Would a pic like the attached be impossible e.g? (the hair of pets is an example, it could likewise be same for strands of grass, hair of ppl in photos etc)
Something like that would come out not so good. There is a dedicated thread sub section about camera quality.

S10 Camera blurry/makes people look white/zombish

I recently bought an S10 after I cracked my screen on my S8 and it made more sense to get a new phone however I wish I hadn't. The photos indoor of my children are terrible, especially when compared to my S8. They look blurry around their arms/body and their faces look like zombies. Also the detail just isn't there. I've tried pro mode and changed the aperture to 1.5 and this helps quite a lot but still not as good as my S8. I took it back into Samsung and they said try messing with HDR to see if it makes a difference so will try it when I get the kids back later. Looking in the details bit of each photo it seems auto mode is using too high an ISO and the 2.4 aperture but i'm no expert so I don't know.
Anyone else having this issue or is my device faulty? I've seen a few posts around the internet about it but are all old posts.
I have the exynos version if it helps.
I haven't experienced this issue, but I don't think I have the same version phone as you.
