port Google camera - Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact Questions & Answers

Anyone port the Google camera?

Never going to work if camera 2 api is not implemented by sony with raw support

https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg...ra-hdr-ported-g6-t3655374/page36#post73988740
This works. Just HDR seems bugged.
If really any raw might be required for that, but I'm not sure who'd be the source for this info, considering initial port had the latter but not the former working.
My bet would be on some customization Sony does on the ISP/DSP.

Missing features / replacement apps

Hi,
I was using a Samsung WB850F (smart camera as they call it) prior to Galaxy Camera. Now I miss some of the features that it has but GC does not. Maybe we could find equivalent apps on the Play Store which could bring these features on GC. I will try to update this thread with recommended apps for those missing features. Please share your ideas with me.
Also, I couldn't find how to activate digital zoom on Galaxy Camera. I don't believe that it is missing on GC. Do you have any ideas on how to activate it ?
Missing features and apps to get them:
- DLNA share (app: Skifta)
- 3D still photo
- 3D panorama
- Action panorama
- Remote Viewfinder
Hi,
it's surprising to have zero replies
I'd expect at least someone to answer my question about digital zoom.
There isn't a digital zoom on this camera, optical only I'm afraid.
AllShare is it's version of DLNA (as DLNA is the underlying technology of AllShare) is there something specific you're wanting to do?
You can't have true 3D without 2 lenses so I'm not sure what to suggest there?
Remote view finder/control, we're all gonna have to wait for Samsung to pull their fingers out before we get an official app, I know some people have used Remote Camera from the Play store but I dont rate it much.
Why do you need digital Zoom? That's something what you can do better with photshop and else. And, oh yeah, you have 21x optical zoom, u know?
Do you know Allshare? It's integrated and Samsung's way of dlna. For myself i use bubbleupnp. You'll find it within network-settings ---> more settings ---> nearby devices.
3D, ok that's a thing what can't be done, at the moment. With Android 4.1.2 Samsung brought some new smart-modes. That's the big deal with an android-camera, it can be upgraded and u can use other camera-apps. I use 360 camera for Tilt-Shift-Photography, but can only be used in portrait-mode.
Within 4.1.2 Remote-Viewfinder support is integrated but don't work with the available apps from Samsung. We have to wait for updates.

thanks for your replies. it's really suprising to see there's no digital zoom.
On the WB850F, I had 21x optic zoom and 4x digital zoom. It also had a smart zoom mode which supplies 26x zoom without any resolution loss.
I thought we should have it on GC too.
3D still photo and 3D panorama is also possible with one lens on WB850F.
I think it does it with some technology like sensor shifting.
You see, I thought GC would be an upgrade after WB850F but it (GC) has lots of missing features.
Maybe I should keep WB850F and sell the GC...
I know, to have Android on such hardware is really nice. It would be very customizable. But on the other hand, I really miss the features of WB850F.

Curious if Note 5 has the Camera2 api enabled

This camera app has manual settings for shutter speed, white balance and iso but needs the Camera2 api to work
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pl.vipek.camera2
Compatibility App:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pl.vipek.camera2_compatibility_test
The official app also has those features. Logic would say that it must have the api. It also has raw file savings, which is part of the api. I cannot imagine that Samsung would use a non standard way to achieve raw file support.

There is nto a way for sammy to shoot RAW without Camera2 API. Yes, it does have it, OP. RAW shooting and the extra adjustments are all present out of the box (got mine in the mail 10 hours ago)

Is it possible to take RAW pictures?

Has anyone tried taking RAW (*.dng) pictures with Android 5.0+ custom roms and compatible 3rd party camera apps?

In case someone looking for an answer for this.
Self-answer: NO
Tried with Unofficial CM12.1 and Camera FV-5.
Result: RAW option is greyed out with unsupported camera notice.
RAW means all image data should be sent from Camera logic to the phone HW but that requires much more bandwidth between camera and phone HW.
Camera has its own circuitry and if its not designed for RAW imaging, it may be hard or impossible to implement this feature in a later software modification.

Google Camera

Anyone want to test and see if this works? https://www.xda-developers.com/google-camera-hdr-ported/

Tested on RR 5.8.4 and It takes same photos or worse than Nubia camera...

Only one thing that Google camera better: Video stabilization
So there is a actual video stabilisation with this camera? Is the quality worse than Nubia/RR camera?
Only slowmo doesn't work
Good Camera because it has Video Stabilisation and the Slowmotion does work !!! You must change the Video Quality to HD 720p and Slowmo to 120 FPS ! It works !!!
Better camera que Nubia camera.

Hi, the phone has to be routed?
It doesn't work in my UI v 5.0
Thanks
The Google Camera porting developer like arnova can work much better just for this device to work on.
But unfortunately, stop developing the camera, not even the development of special rom.

I can confirm that all the ports of Arnova's work fine (even the slow motion function) but the Bokeh function does not work, the app crashes while processing the photo. I've tried different versions of Arnova's and they all have the same bug. I'm using the Mokee 8.1 firmware
I did not say that the camera is not working. There is no improvement for this device. You are only running the cameras which are ports for various devices. This is not a development.
I also can not understand why it's such a good idea to be so far behind custom rom. This device is much more than the xioami mi6 in design and design.
But in terms of development, it is so bad. I have difficulty understanding that the developers have not attracted attention.
Camera attempt
Android is Nubian ui's Android 8..1
Can be used but there is a case of down frequency. There are waves on the screen. The video has a serious impact. No problem taking pictures: (

For your information;
On my Z17 (NX563J) i found that Arnova's 7.9.9 gcam works great
https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/...f/GoogleCamera-Pixel2Mod-Arnova8G2-V7.9.9.apk
Newer versions don't work, or crash, or don't have all the features.
Z17 (NX563J)
Treble v1.0 (https://forum.xda-developers.com/nubia-z17/development/nx595j-t3837433)
HavocOS (8.1) (https://sourceforge.net/projects/ha...oc-arm64_aonly_vanilla_nosu-0819.zip/download)
OpenGapps
no Magisk or other SU
works great on my phone
Z17 (NX563J)
Rom:official developer edition (6.18.10.19), based on oero 8.1
No root needed, install microG Services Core only.
Arnova's v8.3b1 works, with google photo (no backup to google as I don't use offical google framework).
Slow motion works, portrait mode works.

Works on oreo. But I like another one for 23 mp. https://f.celsoazevedo.com/file/gcamera/GCam_5.1.018_by_SerJo87_1.6RC2_test4d_fixed-Fu24-6.apk
Also have 6.1 with working 23mp. and long exposure but it is buggy.

I don't know any gcam that has working slo mo for z17 (no matter 120 or 240)
I definitely know that snapdragon camera and hedgecamera work with 240 slomo even with hevc.
But problem is that I can't modify vendor (tried on los 15), inserting libs with magisk leads to bugs that system sees 120 and 240 at the same time and uses none of them (I checked through logs).
So locked vendor prevents me from using treble along with not so good working camera (no slomo, no portrait, [email protected] eis not so good as stock one). These problems can probably be solved through vendor modding but no...
I like los 15 for its battery life, performance (it is faster than stock), no bloatware, aux camera exposed for every app that can use it without build.prop whitelisting.

@aljoscha81
Is mokee battery friendly? Does it have aux camera exposed by default?

Camera Noise Reduction - Remove this awful 'feature'

Hi everyone,
I thought I'd post this as since I've had my S5 (within last 6 months) I have been quite disappointed by the quality of the camera images, particularly in mid to low light. Having had a Xperia Z2, LG G3 and G2 I had seen that the S5 was meant to have by far the best camera out of its peers. Unfortunately, while not as anywhere near as bad as the Z2, the S5 is significantly worse than both the G3 and the G2, mainly due to the awful noise reduction implemented by the Samsung firmware. The Z2 also had this problem in spades, and the only way to remove it was to unlock the bootloader and erase the DRM keys.
I though that this was the same on the S5 (or even completely impossible), but have recently discovered a camera app called 'Snap Camera HDR' in the Play Store. There is a free version and a paid version.
The app is the most fully featured camera app I have seen (I have used Open Camera, Camera FV-5 and many others), with tonnes of options and manual controls.
They key thing though is that it allows you to disable the built in noise-reduction: Go through the menu and select, then deselect the option 'Denoise'
There are also options to select 'Samsung Camera Mode' which enables real-time HDR (you have to select 'Use OpenGLES 2.0' under 'Other'), and you can also increase image sharpness and
change compression levels.
I've done some real world tests and I think the difference is huge. I'd rather have a little bit of noise and keep a sharper, more detailed, more natural image.
Here are some comparisons (I've cropped them down so you can see the detail more easily):
(P.S.: I have absolutely nothing to do with the Snap Camera developers)
Hm, nice find. I'm not sure if I'd need it thought since I'm on the Note 7's camera app. Any idea if the Note's camera app has this problem or not? I'm no picture taking guy so i can't tell by myself. I've barely used my camera during the past 3 years.
PS: The S5's camera was never good in low light, its strength was only during the day
great, great discovery I was propio looking for a good room for lineage 15.1 unofficial, thanks
This also seems to work without root (I have root but the app has never asked for SU permissions). I'm not sure why other camera apps don't have this feature.
Camera FV-5 has several image adjustments (such as saturation and sharpness) but they don't actually seem to work.
I have an AT&T S5 so I'm unfortunately stuck with stock based ROMs. Does anyone know if this heavy handed noise reduction exists on AOSP or other ROMs?
This might actually make me like my S5. I'm looking forward to getting out and taking some decent shots with the phone now!
Here is an example of the highly customisable UI
Also the built in camera of LineageOS 14.1 has the option to disable camera noise reduction.
With this camera you also have the possibility to take pictures in RAW mode without compression and you can also use HDR mode (but without flashlight) :good:

RAW? I didn't think Camera2 was supported on the S5 hardware..? Is the Lineage camera available as an apk?
Here: https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/linea...a-2-0-002-776519c100-30-android-apk-download/
I don't know if it is RAW but pictures in best quality mode have a very big filesize.

Probably not RAW then. You'd know if it was RAW as you'd have to use a special image viewer and process the photographs afterwards.
I can't install it to test unfortunately as I'm limited to Lollipop.
Resurrecting this.
Tried the app in a hope it would allow me to disable the noise filter on my Galaxy Note 7 LDU. It does. But it also restricts the shutter speed to 1/10th of a second. Unacceptable having up to 10 seconds capability. Overall the app has a hard to use and confusing UI. Users complain that there is no support at all to ask devs for help or features. Ditched it.

Fair enough. I still use it and as far as I'm concerned it's the best camera app for Android. I get what you mean about the UI, but what I like is that you can customise it quite a lot.
You can use the 'gesture' / 'pie' controls, or (as I do) chose to add all the required switches and adjustments as static buttons around the camera edge.
