Shortcut maker was used when I was with sprint to be able to hide hotspot usage as regular phone data, doesn’t seem to work on Verizon. Has anyone been able to mask there hotspot data usage count against regular data?
Just changed to the carrier unlocked version which does not check for tethering subscription: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8/how-to/rd-carrier-switch-root-snapdragon-t3597473
Throttling down a Verizon hotspot fix
Not sure if anybody else has encountered the sudden throttle down to 600 600 kilobytes after 15 gigs of your hotspot use speed unlimited data got me pretty upset anyways if anybody found a way to fix it that would be great. Better use below though
And the meantime I was able to find a fix for it that gives me the ability to use the hotspot and Verizon does not recognize it as being a hotspot. It requires a rooted phone and an application that has been out for at least 7 years that you have to purchase one time. And also another secret for it. When my data runs with a high spot normally I would get 30 to60 megabytes per second Now using this method I'm able to get to still 15 megabytes per second which allows me to download games and stream whenever I want to. Reply if you have questions because I really don't want the big V to figure out and take care of it. The cool thing about it is that when you go through your data usage it shows up as being data off your phone not the hotspot so I've already used up this month I might hotspot over 200 GB just to mess around and make sure it's working and I was supposed to rub it in to Verizon for screwing my unlimited package.
I don't know if this will work, but what if you clone the mac address of the device(s) connected to the hotspot to that of the phone?

Hello. Can you PM me the app? I'm hoping to be able to root my phone and give this a shot. I have the Google Pixel from Verizon so I'm not entirely sure I'll be able to root.
I would like to know what app this is. Been trying everything I know to keep big red in the dark. Nothing works so far.

Hello All
Has anyone found a good data counter for the Galaxy. I use the Mobile AP tool a lot to share internet with my laptop. I used to have an MDA Diamond running Windows and my traffic per month was usually between 1 gig and 2 gig which was reported by i think Octrotalk or something, it was the default data counter that came with the phone.
My problem is that now i'm on Android i can't use that program so i've been using NetCounter which has good reviews but i don't believe the figures its reporting. I tried the Phone Usage app too but that didn't even report anything. In nearly a full month NetCounter says ive only used 141 mb which is way too low. I go on Youtube, I download apps and i surf all via the phone then i connect to my laptop 4 days a week and stay connected for around 9 hours. I have XDA and Facebook both on tab most of the time as well as visiting other sites and i play quite a lot of java games on Facebook so surely it should be higher than 141mb
Was the windows phone just downloading lots of extra rubbish?
or is NetCounter not reporting correctly?
I use 3G Watchdog, seems to work alright and has a nice widget to sit on your homescreen

Lol.... yea when it eventually gets released, that's another thing to look forward to then
Thank you both for your answers, i'll install it right away and report back in about a months time.
Iv personally used 3g watchdog for some time and had a slight problem with the program resetting the counter before the end of the month/bill tried everything but it never kept counting till needed
currently using net counter from android market which never gave me any problems yet , running good and strong for a couple of months now no random resets, im not quite sure about sharing the 3g connection as i never did yet. i tried it at first when i got the phone and found out the connection was working a little faster than the 3.5g wireless modem i use for my laptop which only proved to me that the phone was as amazing as it is.
i recommend both as both give you detailed info with 3g , wifi usage but for tethering im not quite sure if its counted in those 2 programs
i guess u could make things easier and get a counter for ur pc/laptop and then simple set the tethered connection as a seperate one and at the end of the month add the phones counter with the laptop's one (( doing all this just to reduce the load on the phone and get an accurate measure for how much ur using from ur data plan))
LOL i recently found out from a techie at my cell provider ETISALAT that the unlimited*** 3.5g data package notice the 3 stars ***= a monthly limit of 10GB of both upload/download combined worth 135 dollers a month. They sure know how to suck us dry >_<
Mobile Counter
I used 3G watchdog for quite sometime but it wasnt as accurate and it stayed in status bar no matter what we try which was quite irritating
So i switched to Mobile Counter app..i luv it..it is accurate..shows many graphs..and the best thing u also have widgets in that..BABY I LIKE IT!!
Hit THANKS if i helped
Hello Everyone
i got very big bill from Bell Canada for Packed data useage. i dont know how i reach to so much data when i have wireless at both home and work. i saw the billl and those time either i am home or at work and some time even phone is idle. buse its says like i used 2 hours and those at my work, how can i used 2 hours at workkkkk.
please help me if anybody have any idea or there is any apps for track mobile data used. or there is any thing that we can stop using mobile data when we are on wireless..
thanks in advance
Samir
if you are on 2.1 eclair use 3G watchdog
if you are on 2.2 froyo use 3G watchdog + TrafficStats
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=765081
3G watchdog is very accurate it shows exactly the same as my FIDO account tracks
if you do not have a 6GB or unlimited data package, turn off the APN
download the APN on/off switch on the topic i linked above
Thank you so much for fast reply.....
i have 6 gb plan and last month i reach to 11 GB as per their bill. some of long useage even in night when i sleeping.
pls help
11 GB ?!?!?! i think Bell is BSing you some how.
I'm a download freak, i do 100 MB daily at least (Market Updates), and i come no where close to my 6GB data plan
then i have roughly 15 email / contacts account sync
and my DropBox account
and some times i torrent TV series (300Mb~400Mb) to watch in my phone when i'm on the go and don't have access to my home computer
and all that doesn't break past my 6GB.... i've no clue if Bell is accurate or not.
but assuming they are right... then you better check for malware or stuff like that installed by accident in your phone.
as in like all your stuff is being send off to some place in the background without your knowledge.
(just me being paranoid)
if you install Froyo you can then use TrafficStats
and if will tell you exactly which App is doing all the sending/receiving that is wasting your 6GB account
you are right, i am very surprise tooo and the thing is i have wireless internet at home and work. this all charges in purticular one week Oct 21 to Oct 28 otherwise all ok. for that week like 1000,400,300, 500 mb lots of time. do you think i should call bell and findout about that..
Is there anything that can give me kind of log or something that i can find what really happened in that week and my wireless internet was all the time.
thanks for your help
Hello all.
I work at a Best Buy in the mobile department. Today I had a lady come in and show me that her Atrix HD had used 85 MB of her 200 MB data package. She told me that in the previous month her phone had exceeded her allowance and that she was only two weeks through her current month, and that with her old phone she had barely used the 200 MB at all.
I checked the data usage settings and found out that AT&T Smart Wifi accounted for 60 MB of that 85 MB of usage.
What I would love is if anyone of you have the Atrix HD on the stock ROM with that app, for you to go into your settings and check to see if Smart Wifi is using inordinate data like her phone is. The reason why is simple: AT&T bundled the app into a software update for the phone and made it uninstallable. The average user is not going to figure out how to stop the app from chewing up data like that, so it's potentially costing a lot of people money. If you see similar data usage to what I'm describing, I would love it if you could post screenshots. I want to tip off the tech sites if I can corroborate this, because if this is a real issue and it goes public, we have a chance to make AT&T fix it.

Nothing on my Atrix HD shows AT&T apps using data at all, but I also skipped that portion of setup and use T-Mobile on my AT&T model.

I disabled mine. I don't know about the app itself using data (although it might download lists of AT&T access points or something), but I did see someone over on AtrixForums.com say that it seemed to make their home WiFi connection unstable when it was running. They were seeing cases where their home connection would disconnect and then subsequent data would be over the carrier connection. I tried it on for a while and generally didn't see that issue, but I saw a blip or two where it looked like the Smart WiFi app may have put the AHD's WiFi to sleep causing it to flip back to carrier data... Between that and the fact that I saw little value to the app, I disabled it.

I use smart WiFi, but it's not in my list of apps using data. In that same list, you can disable background data if you have a data limit set. I've disabled background data for every app in the list, and it's made a HUGE difference in my data usage. Only used 114 mb this month, and the billing cycle ends in 2 days...
Deep rooted in the mAtrix HD...

I had to disable it also, it was disabling my wifi leading to crazy data usage.
+1 , Smart Wifi was acting like a Smart Ass , i deleted it too .
Wasn't sure how to title this one, really, and if it's deemed that it should be moved/deleted, feel free. Just wanted to drop down a note on here for other people who may be in the boat. I'm on an older unlimited plan (95 GB this month and counting, couldn't imagine that on a tiered plan holy F...) And coming from my rooted G2, I realized I was gonna be hurting for hotspot connectivity. I use it to pair off the Android in-dash in my car, to tether my PC at home for the LTE speeds for netflix, and general internet stuff. Naturally I tried turning it on to see, and sure enough, wouldn't turn on and directed me to customer service to provision. So I was trying to see what I could find out, and crossing my fingers that maybe someone would find a way to open up that. Quick search on the way home returned FoxFi, though PdaNet. now. I had never used it, but so far so good for Wireless tethering. Using it now. There's a button for a premium version, though limited info as to the difference. The free version I guess is supposed to stop after a preset time. However, I've been on for a good forty minutes as of now, and while a pop-up did show up on the phone (dunno when, I just happened to turn on the screen and saw it), the data is still going through fine regardless. Maybe a matter of time before it is updated to catch up? But even so, the paid is 8 bucks right now, and I'm thinking well worth it.. Just figured I'd let people know that it, as of now, is working fine for the S6 for wireless hotspot for Unlimited Data plans.

Almost 2 hours straight with no drop, so I'm not complaining. 16 Mbps on a speedtest with half bars with the phone on the side, so I'm calling it a success lol. SOOOO glad it works, I was in a half-panic when it dawned on me that I wasn't hotspot-ed.
I have unlimited data from 2001 and hotspot is working for me.

FoxFi working fine for me as well. Glad it is was one of my worries as well.
So on FoxFi is that subscription message briefly blinking on then off and then the built-in tethering turns on? Or does the message stay on but tethering works anyhow?
I currently have a the Xperia Z3v and FoxFi fails to turn on the built-in tethering option until that message is able to be skipped. Sometimes it takes once, sometimes it takes 50 times but eventually I get the subscription message to just blink on then back off and eventually it forces the tethering on, no data throughput until the message goes away though.
Also are you guys using any hashcode in FoxFi to get it working? I had to use the hashcode TEST on previous Verizon devices to get it working.

How are you able to get the s6 and keep unlimited data? Best buy is not delivering the phones yet but I can understand if you have other lines then thats easier to get a phone and keep unlimited data. I guess I will have to wait till its available for shipping in order to keep udp.

In my case, I have three lines. Mine has unlimited, the other two lines are tiered. So I've been using their upgrades, and then swapping the phone over. My phone has been eligible forever, but I've made it very clear I do not intend to ever use it. And as soon as any rep questions it, they take one look at my usage and go "Oh... yeah, I see why you're staying on the old one". And even if I didn't have an upgrade available, I'd just buy it outright instead. Still a ton cheaper than paying the extra that I'd need for my use.

Best Buy had shipping available for all the pre-orders. My Verizon S6 Edge 64gb gets delivered Wednesday and I get to keep unlimited. I'm sure they'll be shipping them again soon enough.

Sorry, saw this late. When I go into the app, it doesn't do anything. You click on enable hotspot, it pops up a box that takes you to the Mobile Hotspot setting and you turn it on there (regular phone hotspot). That's all that it does. At that point, I just sit the phone down, and go about my way. Only once have I had it drop and then when I pick up my phone, it's just a notification that says "click here to reactivate internet" or something like that. I finally broke down and just paid the 8 bucks for it to get it out of the way, but even the "free" version let me stay online for quite a long period, even without the box coming up at all most of the time.

Do you by any chance subscribe to the Hotspot feature on your plan? Because on every other Verizon device there used to be a little box that popped up that says you must subscribe to turn it on. I'd be VERY surprised if Verizon forgot to add it here.

I have unlimited data without the hotspot feature. When I try to use the built-in hotspot utility I get a message about needing to subscribe, however when I installed FoxFi it tells you to then go to the built-in hotspot and enable it, which works. However if you quit FoxFi and try again it fails, so FoxFi is doing something in the background that lets you use the built-in tethering feature.

Nice! That's really awesome to know it just works at stock without any hashcode. Totally different story on previous devices!

The native hotspot via the verizon app? Are you paying the extra fee for it?

I don't subscribe to it as it doesn't really play well with my plan without making me switch lol. If I DON'T run FoxFi (sorry, the PdaNet+ app) prior to turning that on, it gives me the prompt to call to subscribe. However, after starting the app, it comes up and after enabling the FoxFi hotspot, it then allows you to turn on the system mobile hotspot without being prompted by the Verizon provisioning check. Basically, the app allows the hotspot to turn on without having to go through that check to Verizon first.

I'm not sure if you're being intentionally vague/coy, but I think we are curious whether you are getting wireless hotspot to work natively even though you aren't paying for it. That wouldn't make much sense, but that's what you seem to be suggesting.
Anyone know how to unlock the hotspot? I have the S10+ Sprint variant.
I would love to know this too. I have tried a few methods that worked in the past (on my Galaxy S8) but no luck yet. I have the S10 Sprint variant.

Thanks! I will give it a try later today. Couple of questions though:
Is there a way (using tasker maybe) to start pdanet/tethering when the phone connects to my car's bluetooth?
Should I enable the "Hide Tether Usage" option for sprint (it says its only needed for certain carriers)?
Also FYI to other Sprint users, this is blocked on the Play Store (I didn't even know apps could be blocked based on your carrier until now). But you can download the APK from pdanet.co/install

I use the hide tether option not sure about using tasker as I mainly use it with my Surface so I just crank it up when I get to the office. It works flawless usually 20-40 gigs per month.
I can't try it on this line anymore my plan now has 50g hotspot included I'm like an ESN swap it to one of my other lines and test it later

What settings are you using? I can't get it.
Flash U1 firmware.
is PDAnet available in google play store? Its been way too long for me on android and looking to get this working on my Sprint Samsung S10+. any help is appreciated. thank you!
I see the link up there to download, PDANet works okay but its annoying how it changes hotspot wifi name so I have to find the new network and enter a new password each time. Hoping for a much better solution in the future.

No certain settings check WIFI Direct Hotspot (new!), hide tether usage then click the WPS button and then click connect on the desired device.
I miss the days when we almost always had root on android devices
hey all, been looking for a solution for this for a bit and havent gotten anywhere. Tried PDANET but seems to just come up with a corrupted connection if I try to connect normally. Cant install the desktop app to try and connect that way as im needing this on my work laptop. Also trying to avoid rooting...
I have an unlocked S10
Missing that easy shortcutmaster hack from my S8
Has anyone found out a way yet? Using 6 0's as MSL still doesn't allow access to change APN's. PDANET wifi direct us slow.
You could always just pay for it with your carrier and enable it the right way in the stock settings, no? You pay almost a grand for a phone, but are too cheap to pay the extra $10 for the hotspot option? LOL

In the end I'll pay less than $380 to lease this phone. I don't know of an unlimited hotspot for $10. We pay almost $400 for 5 lines and it seems like the bill just keeps going up. Too cheap? No just tired of paying them more than they deserve, signal is great at home, where I need the hotspot, damn near useless everywhere else in town.

If you are home then you don't need a hotspot, or are you just trying to steal unlimited data from your cell carrier and run your home on it rather than pay for home internet?

The only options for internet where I live are satellite or a dish shooting from a mountain. Both are god awful expensive ($120/m for 600KBps) and slow. You seem to keep jumping to a conclusion that I'm cheap, they want $24,000 to run cable less than half a mile. From experience, Sprint is fine until you hit 1tb, they aren't stupid, I'm sure they know what I'm doing. I didn't ask for your opinion on what I should or should not buy. I'll take it as you have no information on how to enable the hotspot, thanks for your input.

Who cares what someone wants to do with their services. Help out the OP by giving them some information or don't comment at all. If you were in his position you might do the same. I know I would since the last time I used dial up speed for home internet was back in 2004.
Op something I might recommend depending on your ATT receiption at your home. Active a Cricket (ATT MNVO) on their Unlimited extra plan and pop the Sim into a cheap $50-100 unlocked international phone and you can use Hotspot for free. The plan is $60 and I've seen people ok Reddit saying they've used up to 300+ GBS with no issues.

I'm terribly sorry to hear that... I've got fiber and it's $100/mo for 1GB speed...
