backup userdata? - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions and Answers

Is there a way to backup userdata and settings? I wanna mess with the root thing and switch carriers on my unlocked note 8 but I hate installing apps again. I want something like nandroid backup or like it.

Nope unless you are rooted

Helium can backup some app data but not all.

Rooting without wiping? OR how to back up app data

I've got a 6 month old OB which I want to root & install an ICS rom but one thing I have not been able to find out:
Can I root it without wiping it first? I've heard plenty about Titanium Backup but that needs root access first.
Alternatively, what is the best way to backup all the apps & settings ahead of time?
I did a search and couldn't find clear answers to this, sorry if it has been asked before.
If you have Rooted phone, My Backup Pro is the best app to backup and install including Data with apk files
If you are not rooted, it can only backup apk, not data

I don't have a rooted phone. I'm trying to ask if there is a way to back up the data without rooting, or back it up before rooting.

If you aren't rooted you can't backup the data.
No backups without root accs

Ok, no backups without root access. Any way to attain root access without wiping everything?
This isn't a deal breaker, but it'd be nice to retain what I can.
Risk of getting bootloop or non usable play store, which apps do you want to backup so badly?

Rooting a phone you don't have to wipe anything. After getting a root you'll be able to make a real backup. Then you can wipe and flash any rom. Also you can flash a fresh rom without root, so you can "revert" rooting.
Good programs to backup your data:
- CWM - making a nandroid backup - best method to backup all data on your phone
- Titanium backup - very functional, professional program
- Go Backup - to store contacts, smses, call-logs and installed programs
IF you are on 2.2 you don't need to wipe anything.
If you are on 2.3.4 you need to wipe everything.

Can't use CWM if the phone hasn't been rooted and is on GB with the Current CWM injection method because it wipes all Phone on board memory.

You can root 2.2.2 without losing anything. To be safe : Make backups of your contacts, hopefully your email should still be on the email server and if you really need those text messages then you can write them down. If it is really really important to keep the information rather not risk it.
Back To The Original Topic : If you want to just backup apps (not other stuff) then ES File Explorer can do that for you.

Backup without root

Hi,
do you guys know any good app to do a backup of my non rooted non unlocked Razr I? I'd like to root and unlock it, but I don't want to lose all my data.
Carbon does not work. What did you use?

Try this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rerware.android.MyBackup&feature=search_result
There are some solutions for backup to the PC too.
Thanks!
But it looks like it does only do a backup of the apk files. Is there any app which includes the app's data to a backup? I do not want to play all my games again :/

Ok. As far as I know you have solutions for backup/restore without rooting only for PC. But that shouldn't be a serious problem. The only important thing is to have ability to restore your apps and data. Look at this: http://www.addictivetips.com/android/backup-android-devices-to-pc-without-root-or-bootloader-unlock/

full backup of the phone require an app like titanium backup. Unfortunately those app generally require root privileges. Btw contacts are normally saved to your google account. You can backup your user preferences and app settings with htc backup. You can also restore app from google play store. You can backup all your media directly on your pc.

after you unlocked bootloader and flashed a custom recovery, make sure to make a nandroid backup of your phone before starting to flash stuff. So if something goes wrong you can restore from that backup. Make sure also to make a copy of that backup to your computer.
beware that when you will unlock your bootloader.......it will wipe your apps......just do some more reading before starting......cheers!

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.koushikdutta.backup
this is an app to backup ur apps. Install the program on ur pc nd back up. the backup will be created in a folder called Carbon in the root of the phone internal storage. MAKE SURE THAT YOU COPY THIS FOLDER TO UR PC COZ THE INTERNAL STORAGE WILL GET WIPED AFTER A BOOTLOADER UNLOCK
To backup call logs,
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.riteshsahu.CallLogBackupRestore
Just drag nd drop the media to ur PC(music, pics, movies, etc.)
If anyone like me, reading this way later...
There seams to be some apps that doesn't allow Helium to backup it's data. App tells you to ask the individual developer to allow backups for the app in question. I did it anyway, because none of the apps that was disallowed had data you'd want or shouldn't backup. Mostly banking stuff and some secure conversation apps. There are also a bunch of apps just failing to backup...might be something I did wrong...

restoring a back-up will lose root?

hi,
When i make a back-up using Sony Bridge and then root my phone. Will i lose root restoring the back-up from sony bridge?
thanks in advance
does someone have an answer to my noob question?
did you have root when you made the backup?
Yes you did
So if you restore back to that point, guess what...You will have root.

Again, you cannot do a backup without root, you must mean you have backed up some app data. That will not get rid of root either as it is not a full system backup, you need root in order to do that.

I used sony bridge to back-up my contacts, messages and pictures and such. I don't care that much about app data.

OK, That's not a "Backup" of your system, its just some files, it will not replace your system files, hence will not touch root.
It will just replace your contacts, messages, pictures and such

Ok, thanks for your help! I am going to root my device using the methode you said 100 times to people but i just wanted to make a 'back-up' before i do it so i don't lose anything after i rooted.
Maybe a last question if you dont't mind? am i using the best methode so i won't lose anything?
Your contacts are auto backed upto your google account anyway
Then I would just copy and paste all my pictures onto my PC
You can use smartSMS bacup to backup your messages to your google account as well.
That's all I ever do.

Backup and Restore

Hi,
Ive been away from the android world for quite some time, what is the easiest way to backup and restore app data when you are a rom flashing maniac? I know that note 8 doesnt have a lot of custom roms but old habits die hard
So far, Ive used titanium, its really slow specially the restoring part when you dont have the premium version.
Google backup is also internet based, Im looking for an offline type of backup and restore
There is also twrp, but I have never tested it
Thanks

If you use TWRP to back up your Rom it works just like it's supposed to, been using it for years. If you just want apps and app data I'd invest in the license for Titanium Backup, you can batch backup, batch restore and even make a flashable zip for your apps and data.
