What is the top white part of the phone called? - HTC Desire 510

Hello.
I own a Boost Mobile HTC Desire 510. I bought it used but it was barely usable. The phones digitizer has become incredibly hairy; hovering your finger, holding the phone from the side, squeezing, etc.
I had since bought a few parts to restore the phone. However, I cannot find the very top part of the phone on its own. I can describe it as a speaker grille, or an earpiece, or maybe even a bezel. While it is not necessary for me to have that plastic bit right now, I would want to buy one in the future.
I must know where I can look for the top plastic piece.

Repairs?

Hey Guys,
The front of my diamond is in pretty bad condition. Well it looks fine when you glance on it but on further inspection there are many scratches on the screen including a big one in the top right hand corner. I have noticed that there seems to be a thin glass panel over the actual screen, Is it possible to get this replaced with a panel which is scratch free?
Furthermore, my speaker is buggered. My mate read some article on the internet saying that if you smear your phone with toothpaste then it removes scratches. Unfortunately he decided to try it. The toothpaste has got into the ditch where the speaker is and it's clearly blocked up. I can just about hear the phone when I am indoors and there is no noise but when outdoors I cannot hear a thing. It was a bit too quiet for my liking before anyway. Where can I get the speaker replaced preferably with a louder speaker?
I'm new to repairing phones as I usually just buy a new one if something goes wrong but I like my diamond
Any Suggestions?
Too bad for the toothpaste there are polishing fluids for sale which seem to work, although i wouldn't try it. Seems to mee you could ask HTC if you're really interested in spare parts ?

[Q] How to avoid Xperias that crack

Hi,
I personally love my xperia X1. Its a lovely piece of sleek hardware, can be easily overclocked and has a good solid metal chassy. I bought a black one from rogers and I love it. I personally havent had any cracking issues or anything, in fact my phone has been dropped on pavement 2 times and in deep snow once, and emerged without even a scratch.
Because I hate frequent hardware changes Id like to keep my xperia for a full five years and would like to buy a second phone as they are really becoming cheap now. I have had my eye on the silver phones for a while, but know they are more prone to cracking. Particularly phones made in weeks 44,45 and 46 right?
Are there any silver phones that have had this issue corrected yet and been relreaed?
When buying a phone and shopping is there a way to tell which phones will have the cracking issue? Serial or batch numbers on the box mabye.
If I am concerned should I just stick to the black ones?
Finally other than ebay does anyone know where I can get a cheap new or refurbished X1?
Any help is appreciated.
hahahhahahahahahahaha
I have a black xperia and it cracks like crazy xD and i didn't drop it once xD
Hi, if the cracking is whats got you concerned, why don't you try getting just the housing? there's guides on how to replace it, I've done it myself. Replaced both the ribbon cable and the housing.
I still have my silver X. bought it at bethefirstx1 (1st day). my housing has been replaced once because of crack. I never bumped my phone nor dropped it. but I have cracks all over it:
1. the dreaded volume button crack (2nd time after replacement)
2. the camera button crack
3. the middle area crack (rumored to have been cracked due for using a car stand, I don't have car stand but I got the crack on the same location)
4. the camera part crack up to the top of the phone
The only thing left for me to have is the crack on the stylus area and the crack on the earphone plug.
So after these years, what I can tell about it is it still cracks due to user mishandling (please correct me if I'm work I already rant a lot of times on the crack thread)
but I found out that whenever you change your battery/take off your memory card, you either use your fingernail to open the cover on one of the four areas where you can slip it. That actually inclines the cover and tilts it on the side where your fingernail opened it. Thus it results to the cracking of the opposite trapeziodal area (either the volume or camera part)
I had my keyboard replaced and the camera housing had the crack after it was replaced. (I'm thinking it was from the technician's part of re-assembling it)
Lastly, the metallic middle portion of the phone chipped off:
I think from the leather case that came with my X1, the middle part of it is exposed and I wear 'em clipped on my belt. I guess that how got it to chip off, whenever you reach your phone on your belt side you actually hold it on the expose area pressing your thumb to it to lever your fingers on the magnetized leather case to open up. For more than 3 years of doing it everyday, I guess that the reason for my crack on the metallic area.
If you live in the UK you could pay a visit to CEX also known as Entertainment Exchange, they also have a website... I bought my x1 from them about three months ago, and everything they sell comes with a 12 month guarantee be it second user or brand new.
just buy the black one, the silver ones seem to crack a lot easier. Or just get another phone that's better, they should be cheap now.
I got mine for $120 so can't complain.

"Tough" Silver X1
I have a Silver X1 for about 3 years now, fell down 15 feet, hit a stone and has a tiny little dent on the screen, never had cracking problems until 2 weeks ago, fell out my hand, 3 floors down, ricocheted off a handrail and landed on concrete pavement, one crack upper right hand corner, and well usual wear and tear, the bright chrome siding wore off due to car keys in same pocket.
Don't know whether my phone actually is tough, or plain dumb luck.

Speaker Grills

I would just like a consensus of how many folks have Sprint HTC M8 where the speaker grill holes don't line up on the top and bottom speakers (on the right side) I called HTC and they said this was normal. While it may be nit picking, I don't expect this on such a high end phone.
the top is shorter because of the camera. the camera lines up with the rest of the grill on the bottom
This is normal for many phones. Both the Nexus 5 and the iPhone 5s have a consistent misaligned speakers throughout the line of their products
But yes, both of the speakers are offset to the left on my HTC One m8 as well
Sent from my 831C using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
The actual speakers aren't all across on the bottom or top, they're both on the left side.

I have a different issue with the speaker grilles. I returned my first M8 because the metal(?) plate on the bottom was raised on the right side where it meets the screen, instead of being flush like it's supposed to be. The new unit I got is perfect at the bottom, but now the upper grille is very slightly raised where it meets the screen on the right side (to the right of the camera). I can push it down, but it comes back up after a few minutes (like there's some kind of adhesive that doesn't hold it down properly)... Minor, but very irritating! Anyone else have problems with the speaker cover plates not being flush with the screen?

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but I recently bought a used m8 ATT off someone and converted it to the GPE. And now I've noticed that this phone has the metal on the top raising above the screen (right side around the camera). I can push it down but it comes back up after a while.
I contacted HTC and they said that the phone is under warranty but I would have to send it in for diagnostic to see if it qualifies for a warranty repair or they would quote me how much it would be to fix.
I unlocked the bootloader on HTC's website which I'm pretty sure voided the warranty and they will be able to tell no matter what I do. So does anyone know how to fix this annoying issue? DIY style that is

Yes, I fixed mine by just lifting up the grille (it's actually plastic and just held on by adhesive) and applying some new adhesive to the back of the grille. I wouldn't use super-glue, but something a little thicker/gooier to fill the gap. Maybe a dab of silicone (I used something silly... "liquid skin" from the first aid cabinet. It worked, but I wouldn't recommend it because it slightly discolored the coating on the back of the grille!). Good luck!
You can also find replacement grilles online that will have fresh adhesive, but you have to do some searching and I think they come from China, so you'd have to wait a while for shipping.

Was yours only raising up on the right corner? If so was it hard taking the whole cover off without messing it up?

Yes, it was only raising on the right corner. I didn't try to remove it completely, as I just wanted that side to stay down. Just use something to apply adhesive carefully to the back of the grille (it's flexible plastic), then stick it back down (and apply pressure until it dries).

[H][Q] Problems Galore with my M7 (speakers, camera, screen)

Hello everyone! I bought a used M7 which I found for a reasonable price and it has a couple of issues that I think I may be able to fix (provided your most appreciated assistance). My phone has the following problems:
1st The top speaker is blown out and listening to music with the phone is quite irritating, close to unbearable. The lower speaker sounds acceptable (although coming from a nexus 4 and based on reviews I was expecting to be blown away)
2nd According to the previous owner the screen was replaced and the person who did the job was unable to properly glue the top left part of the screen, leaving it a bit loose and making the union between the top speaker grill and the screen a bit sharp and uncomfortable, specially when swiping down from the notification bar.
3rd The bottom speaker grill is not perfectly glued and a bit loose. Same for the top speaker grill (plus the fact that it's a bit bent inwards)
4th The usual M7 purple daemon camera tint
The 4th problem has been extensively covered in this forum so I have a good idea of what I'm expected to do to fix it, but I'm not sure about the speakers and the screen. Thus fellow XDArs, I'd like to ask you
1 Can I remove the grills without having to dissasamble the majority of the phone? (prying them out just like the M8)
2 Are the top and bottom speakers exactly the same making? (I can't find all the necessary spare parts in my country but given that I found a seller who has the speakers I was considering replacing them both)
3 How can I properly glue the part of the screen that is protruding from the back case of the phone?
Any idea and or suggestion will be much appreciated. Thanks!
Sorry to up my post but I've waited for a day and my post ended up on the second page of the forums . Help anyone?

Dust under screen - possible to repair or swap screen with another one

Hi,
I ended up buying 3 Droid 4's before I found one I was happy with. So, I now have 2 spare ones:
1) Very nice condition but has dusk under the screen
2) Poor conditon, crackly phone speaker but nice screen
So, I was wondering whether to try and get the dusk from under the screen.
Or maybe I should try and swap the 2 screens around?
Or am I likely to end up ruining both of them, and I'd be better off just selling them both as they are?
Cheers
Once you detach the glue from the glue that's holding the glue in place for the back casing, the phone actually comes apart fairly easily. Though, putting the back casing back on, I've always found that the bottom edge will never sit flush again; easily trimmed off with a razor blade. Otherwise the edge will protrude and catch on things.
The dust might not actually be dust; while shopping for my LG Ally, I bought one that appeared to have dust behind the glass and opened it to clean it, only to find out that the inside facing was actually covered in weird pockmarks. It was the strangest factory defect I'd ever seen.
If it's fairly uniform "dust", you might have the same thing going on. One way to find out. You'll need T5, T4 and possible T3 screwdrivers/bits to break it all the way down to the screen.
The only things I'd say to really look out for:
There are two soft spongey adhesive pads that the keyboard-facing side of the mainboard uses to stick to the rest of the phone. Try not to tear these up when pulling the mainboard out. One is next to the power button, one is the same place on the opposite end. If you do rip up the one on the power button end, the button might not line up properly anymore (it barely does to begin with, thanks Motorola) and it'll be harder to activate.
Don't try to remove the screen glass from the bezel/frame unless you have a solid plan to reattach it. I've heard it's a real nuisance to get it to adhere properly again. Fair enough if the bezel is torn up but the screen is nice, just be aware that things may get really annoying.
I would say just flip the screens around. I replaced a digitizer in a Photon Q and it was a pain (still isn't working for me either).
