[Q] new to Z1 unlocking and camera

Hi all
I just got my z1, I had a z before.
If I unlock the bootloader will the camera then suffer? On the z it became more grainy and the quality got really bad... If this is so then I won't unlock.
It is updated to 4.3...
When it came out I heard of the camera being broken when unblocked.. This is why I ask... Thanks in advance..
If you mind.. Please give some words about what you feel of the phone... Is it that good and such?

With the latest Firmware .290 or .136 the camera will working fine and at the moment nobody complain about quality after Unlock Bootloader. Also few stuff like X-Reality was fixed and will work even after Unlock it, but to do that you have to install the fix.
BTW, if you want just root your phone you do not need to Unlock Your Bootloader but if you do because you want install Custom Kernels then root first, Backup TA, if you do not do that you will cannot relock bootloader and you warranty will be voided, then unlock and update to what you like.

I will look at it and maybe unlock it...
My z did not get the TA backup...but it relocked just fine... I even got it repaired with no problem..

bravia engin

my bootloader is unlocked and i was on PA !! now i'm back to stock after the update !! but i can't feel the bravia engin touch on the photos ?
is it because of my bootloader ?

yup, relock the bootloader and try :good::highfive:

His bravia engine will only work if he restores his DRM keys.
on 4.4.2 it should work without though

Thats not true, BE works on unlocked bootloader too, on 4.4.2 & 4.4.4 stock ROMs. You don't need to relock it or restore DRM keys. Try this and see if theres any difference. Open one picture in Album app with BE turned off and take a screenshoot. Now turn on your BE and go to Album app, find the same image and take sceenshoot again. Now compare screenshots, you will see the difference.

thanks a lot mates i relocked it via Backup-TA-9.11 and it's working just fine now

Is DRM stil a thing for sony?

I will probably get full refunds for my s7 edge after a hardware failure and was thinking about going back to sony. Last one was z3.
I know that root without unlocking bootloader is not an option anymore, but do I still lose functionality by unlocking it?
It's really dull if they practice this bs alongside with open community project. Does not make sense.
and if so, can someone care to explain why on earth unlocking bootloader for sony should restrict camera functionality and x-reality? I'm OK with DMR keys for warranty, but this why????
and is there a hack to rerstore these functions ? ( that actually does WORK 100%)
Please answer all 3 questions.
Im really not sure if I should leave sony for good.

with stock kernel YES, u'll lose function like x-reality and camera quality. BUT! U can flash custom kernel with DRM fix. That kernel NOT restoring your DRMs it only restoring functions that depends from DRMs

but unlocking bootloader loses the ability to miracast and I have yet to find a fix for that

What will happen when unlock bootloader

Hello, what will happen when unlock bootloader? Anybody tried this on XZ2?

Most likely the same thing that happens on all Sony devices, loss of DRM license and some camera functionality. I won't be unlocking it.

I will be unlocking mine the first min I boot it up.

Let us know what happens to DRM keys. Hopefully it's not wiped but I seriously doubt that. Root is what is keeping me from changing my XZ.

The real answer is nothing. Sony devices seem to drag on development... More than others in my experience. As tempting as it is, I won't so it until I can fake or backup the DRM keys.
I'm running out of reasons to root anyway.

Also, You will lose Ps4 remote play and you lose X-reality Engine

There will be a DRM patch as for all the previous Xperia devices...

is there any way to open the bootloader? Sony does not list the xz2

Camera is great in low light as far as experience from comming down from disasterous Z5, need to test it further during day

I can agree with you, phone is not bloated, it is snapy, plenty of space so for me for now i go with good adblocker ?
And later after full root solved i will flash it ?

Camera black screen ?

since i unlock the bootloader i cant use my camera (black screen) after searching i think theres no solution and also i cant relock the bootloader... any soloution in the future ? and it is possible to solve the prob after TWRP is released ?

Did you try with open camera app?
Also does camera works with what'sapp or messenger app?

no it doesnt work in all apps (black screen) to capture images but it works only for recording videos without using options. thats what happens when u unlock the bootloader ?

i didnt know that before i unlock the BL, i just want to change the firmware because i had demo mode activated. i always unlock BL of all smartphone that i had before without any prob. i hope that a DRM fix will release soon

Did you actually try taking pics even if the camera were black or did you just assume it didn't work?
Because Open Camera does work taking awesome pics with even if the screen is black.
