I have an unlocked Note 8 bought from Amazon.co.uk and i am using it in Greece.
While my Galaxy S7 has the caller id option enabled on my Note 8 this option is greyed out.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Unlocked using Verizon and it's enabled for me.
Probably there are a lot of people who do not have the same problem as i do. By just saying that you are ok you understand that you are giving me no help at all, right?
is that option only available on unlocked versions?
I think xbmoyx comment is certainly helpful as it indicates that unlocked Note 8 does support the feature.
My unlocked Note also supports it, using TMO as provider in the US.
I think there is no spam phone register in Europe/Greece yet, so the service is not being provided to you and that is the reason why it is greyed out.
Mine is grayed out but it is on. I am with t mobile.
It works on my unlocked phone here in the UK. I think the option is region specific.
--
Definitely sounds region-specific...like my old Galaxy S7 from Sprint that hid/restricted access to the APN settings menu. My S7 was sim-unlocked and I wasn't on Sprint anyways, so I was able to flash an unbranded version of their firmware which lifted those restrictions and provided normal access again to those features. Sounds similar to your case OP.
My phone had that working with hydra rom, when I installed 8 ported rom it no longer works, it also is greyed out in off position
got my unbranded/unlocked on amazon uk as well and it is also greyed out, I've no sim card in it at the moment though, maybe it depends if the actual service is available from your provider
You first have to go to advanced features, enable it there
You can also try downloading the latest software for the carrier you are using it on (from Sammobile or wherever), and then flash the Home_CSC file only.
That's how i got all my carrier features (and caller ID/Spam Protection) back.

If your phone was purchased through Verizon it's the 950U and the feature is disabled because they want you to use their pre installed caller id app instead. You will need to flash the latest 950U1 firmware for the feature everyone is talking about. Keep in mind if you flash this you will loose all the Verizon bloatware such as VVM and what not and your phone will be reset. Also the link I provided is the latest firmware as of today but I think another update is coming soon.

No problem, you can always flash back to the Verizon firmware if you don't like the 950U1. I did the same to my wife's S8+.

Will you be more specific? Where in advanced feathers should I change something and what exactly?
I mean I use S9 with U1 firmware, but still this Caller ID and spam protection feature is greyed out. I had it also in my unlocked S7 before with different operators I had been with. Also, I am sure it's not a matter of operator since my friend used the same phone with same operator, but had this not greyed out.
Guys, this issue will be Service provider related. I have two S10, same Model Number (SM-G973F/DS), same Software latest version (G973FXXUFHVE1), working on same network (Vodafone, Spain) so unlocked. One has Caller ID and spam protection ON but you cannot turn off, other is the opposite. Switched OFF and you cannot turn off.
But the Service provider software versions are different (CSC code):
Protectoin ON: .....AMO/AMO,AMO/AMO (Spain)
Protection OFF: .....BTU/BTU,BTU/BTU (Great Britain)
Maybe that's the key... i'm going to try to change BTU version to AMO on my second phone and keep you updated.
Guide how to change the Service provider (CSC code):

Excellent. The only other person besides myself in the world with this variant. I have posted the the boot.img,recovery.img, and build.prop in another thread to have a custom recovery made, but havent heard anything back yet.
I too am having an issue finding anything for this phone. Not to tech savvy myself but I'm sure something will come soon. Black Friday at Walmart sold a ton of these phones so I'm sure it won't be long.
+1 person
Me too man bought on Black friday and looking to unlock this for t mobile . Let's see what happen ??
EDIT:- Is someone is using for other network than straightalk ??
I too snagged this phone at Walmart on Black Thursday right after a hearty meal of turkey and all the fixin's lol. So far, all I've been able to really accomplish on this device is to root it with KingRoot, replace KingRoot with SuperSU and enable tethering. We really do need a custom recovery for this variant. A permissive kernel would be nice too.
I bought one of these phones from black Friday online from Wal-mart the Straight Talk model but online it shows S920C instead of S920L.... Does anyone know the difference?
http://www.walmart.com/ip/46716426
I don't have the device in hand yet, should be here by the 4th to verify the model number. I posted the link though.
Update
I have a SM-S920L(As screenshot above) and i bought from Best buy and it is locked to Tracfone. I called to cell representative and he told me that it can be unlock after 1 year of use.

I've read somewhere that in order to update you have to get a new SIM card from Straight talk. I myself haven't test this theory so if anyone is able to update after doing so, please post your results for the rest of us.
I read the same just was wondering if there was another way thanks for the info.

If you do find another way let us know. Seems like a pain just to get an update.
So I talked to straight talk and they said that the ota issue don't qualify for a sim replacement. Not to sure how the other people got there's but they refuse to send me one. I will be doing more research to find another way. They also claim that 5.0.2 is the latest version for the phone but the others that have had the sim replaced have 5.1.1
I haven't seen mention of any SM-S920L's on 5.1.1.

This variant is the LTE version. In other words, it's already unlocked. You should be able to put pretty much any SIM in.

Does this mean that LTE phones are unlocked? I always thought it was just a type of 4g just a bit faster
---------- Post added at 12:38 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:34 AM ----------
After further research I have found that 5.0.2 is the latest for the phone so I am assuming that the others that had this and claim it was fixed with new sim was probably just the timing of the update being available and was only to 5.0.2.
After getting the phone in hand it's indeed a S920L and not a S920C as shown on the Wal-Mart website
Is there anyway to change the APN settings on this phone? Just got it today and i am unable to get picture messages from people i was previously getting them from with my old phone/sim. Thanks!

If its a straight talk phone you should be able to go to the Straight Talk website and get the APN APN or VPN whatever you need other than that I don't know
Nope, no way to change it. It's a CDMA/LTE phone on Verizon Wireless.
I have to say this is an awesome phone. I'm using straight talk with TWRP Recovery and Turbos Rom
Hi guys,
I'm new here and want to get yalls opinion and expertise if the unlocked US version Note 9 will work fully on tmobile network? I got it from b&h photo as it has a lot of freebies (Dex and the new dual charger) plus there's no tax.
No. 1 priority for me is if tmobile band 71 will work on this us version note 9.
Thank you in advance for all your comments and suggestions.
Great question. As far as I can tell, it has Band 71 (600mhz)...
I think TM uses some of the lowest frequencies over other carriers, like their cement drilling band 71....aweosme.
See pic attached.

It should work with all bands. Just don't expect HD voice, VOLTE or Wi-Fi calling to work.
It will absolutely have Wi-Fi calling and VoLTE. I've had several unlocked phones with them and they all offer both options. T-Mobile is very open to outside devices.

uummmm i got my tmobile pixel 4 even before i received it i contacted twitter support gave them the imei to whitelist it for unlock, got the phone when to the app connected to wifi press unlock and wala when to dev option and oem unlock now i am rooted with bootloader unlocked
Contact T-Mobile via Twitter DM, they're a lot easier to work with. They were able to get my 6T SIM unlocked so I could unlock the bootloader even though it's not paid off yet.
Well today I received my 7th Google Pixel 4XL from TMO. I'm not getting into how i got (7) but TMOHelp finally gave me the OK to Carrier Unlock my device. After about a 5-10 minute wait, i was given the go ahead to Permanently UNLOCK my Pixel and it work! OEM Unlock is NO LONGER Greyed-Out. A couple points I would like to make :
-Device was delivered TODAY (2/11) and Unlocked TODAY ((2/11) NOT (40) Days old as Policy states.
-Device was NOT PAID OFF in full (Device discounted $423 to match competitors pricing)
-Account IS in Good Standing
-I have NOT made 1 payment towards device.
-Obviously device has NOT been reported Stolen, Lost, etc.

Bought a T-Mobile Pixel 4 XL during the sale. Brand new customer, phones leased and not paid off.
I was able to get the T-Mobile Twitter people to enable dual SIM for me and switch my T-Mobile SIM to an eSIM and then whitelist my IMEI so I could run the T-Mobile unlock app. Now I'm fully SIM unlocked and I've also enabled OEM Bootloader Unlocking in Dev mode.
Later this week when I have time I'm going to at a minium get TWRP and Magik on there for ROOT. Smooth enough that I'm not ready for custom ROMs yet.
TWRP isn't available yet, the developer is doing real life and it turns out it's taking up a lot of his time.

What has replaced it?
There is no replacement. People are rooting by patching the boot with Magisk, you'll also find some other changes in the world brought on by Android 10, (for example) no easy editing of the build.prop. You'll need to read up on procedures and you come across the various changes going on in Android while doing that bit of housekeeping.
Reminds me of when I first got my Nexus 6!

volte works on the v40, but it's not as simple as that. If your carrier is so-and-so, they allow it with their phones, but not others. Some carriers allow it with bring-your-own device, some don't.
you don't say what variant your phone is other than405UA, that could be sprint, vzw, att, etc.
you don't say who your carrier is. How can anyone help you? There isn't some 'magic switch' somewhere

Well the first and most important thing you need to know is if the phone is 'Carrier Sim Locked'. In other words, if it is sim locked to AT&T, then the only way it will work with another carrier is if AT&T unlocks it for you.
IF the device is not 'carrier sim locked', then for you, because of where you are, would want to flash a kdz that has the 'bands' that your local carriers use.
If it is sim locked, don't flash a kdz rom to the device, because the software needed to unlock it is part of the ATT rom. If you flash over that, you'll lose that software and have no way to carrier sim unlock it.

So long as you think it's carrier unlocked, then follow this thread to cross-flash to a different rom.
keep in mind, your carrier has to also support volte and vowifi for it to work. Even though the phone may be perfectly capable of it, if the carrier doesn't support it, not gonna work.
cheers

My original thought was to get a 6 dollar a month tmobile and get 4 lines gig of data each. Unfortunately, in Cleveland ohio, tmobile sucks compared with verizon and att, forget it outside the city off the highway, without band 71 600 mhz. My kids wouldn't take the phones and plan.
I also tried verizon, page plus, but they won't activate it, and saying not volte capable. with tmo, I was thinking data only. But on page plus, I want calling.
Hey guys, first of, I want to thank you for reading the post.
So I've recently bought a new S21 Ultra from Korea, on the seller's page it was stated that it's unlocked. The issue I had when I received the phone is that it starts up with the carriers (SKT(Korea Telecomm)) splash screen, and what this means is that when I entered in. I was forced to install all of SKT apps. And I can't disable them or anything. And when I put in my local sim card to test it, I could call people and it was technically working fine. But when I was using mobile data. It only activates 3G/LTE, although my sim is 4G+ and I've been using it with my all phone all the time. I've also come to noticed that there is a SKT connection thing in my setting, and I noticed that my local sim card is actually classified as a overseas sim card. So it's as if the phone is thinking I'm mobile data roaming all the time. I need help with this, is there anyway to get rid of it? I've got a screen shot to explain what's happening.

I think so as well. Man....
No.. what are you talking bout? You didn’t buy it from Samsung? you’re phone is unlocked! How else are you able to make calls?? You would have no service and your phone would give a SIM card error if it was locked. You need to change your APN settings according to your carriers. Thats it you’ll have full speed internet after you change your APN settings, to your US carriers APN, it’s currently on the Korean carriers that’s why it’s showing as overseas. Google APN settings for your carrier.
Your splash screen will always show the Korean carrier cuz it’s their device originally, if you want to change it you have to root it first. Dudes splash says Samsung cuz his is factory unlocked, it never was locked to any carrier. He bought it from Samsung directly which is why there’s no carrier stuff anywhere.
Yo OP if someone says something weird you don’t have to agree with them, you should ask them to clarify instead, that way you can correct them if they’re wrong which in this case you missed, they pointed you in the wrong direction, which certainly didn’t help you. To an outsider like myself you both seem crazy, obviously y’all have no idea what y’all talkin bout and I know it didn’t get resolved cuz the only way is my solution.
Do you reside in Korea, if not why aquire the Korean variant? If you add up all the different S21 Models then factor in all the different Service Provider's it's over one-hundred different variants. That's pretty much on Samsung, no other device manufacturer has anywhere near this many variants, it's absolutely absurd! Anytime you install firmware that doesn't match your device’s Primary CSC you should expect conflicts. If there's any comfort in the fact that thousands if not millions of users are in the same boat as you. If you need full Call Feature Compatibility it's always best to aquire your Service Provider's device. A bit of research goes a long ways when it comes to Samsung's numerous offerings.
You have to change the APN to which ever carriers APN you are using... that simple.
If you don't know how to do so. Let me know
As this post is 10 month old, I guess the issue is already solved long ago...
