Double tap fingerprint sensor to clear notifications? - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions and Answers

Anyway of doing this?
On Huawei phones this is possible and is a great feature to compliment the slide fingerprint sensor to reveal notifications (which note 8 has).
I have looked for any apps which will make this possible but to no avail.
Sent from my SM-N950F using Tapatalk

It might sound like a useful feature to you, but personally I would worry about accidentally tapping the sensor twice and erasing my notifications. On Samsung phones you just tap the "Clear All" button at the bottom, easy enough really.
--

Must admit never had that problem. Once the phone is unlocked, your finger should never head towards the sensor, never mind tap it twice. Lol.

In my case my options are either
to ask Bixby...
to show...... Notifications , Quick Tiles etc.
Otherwise if you don't care for Bixby,
with the 3rd party app "bxActions"
you can remap Bixby button
My configuration is
One button press, " go back"
Two buttons presses shows Quick tiles
Long button press, show Notifications etc.
Bottom line
there is other ways, just as convenient.
Good luck

Back, Home and Recents buttons?

Hello,
after the sources for the Z2 Pro have been released and good Custom ROMs are possible, I would love to buy this beautiful device. I've read alot about this U-Touch thing, where you navigate only by using the Home Button... and I don't like it. So my question is: Does this phone also have the normal Back, Home and Recents hardware buttons?
Thanks!
Hi,
Yes, you can add on screen buttons in "Developer Options" menu. At least you can do it with z2 (non pro). I guess you will have this option too.
So there are no "real" hardware buttons to the left and the right of the home button?
On screen buttons are in developer options in both models, make sure you reboot to effect the changes.
Thanks for your answers. I know about the possiblity to show the On Screen Buttons, but that's not what I wanted to know.
I'm curious if the device also has dedicated hardware buttons (not on screen) for Back and Recents, or just the U-Touch button?
It only has 1 physical button on the front..
I'd love to see an app or even integration in a custom rom to be able to configure the behaviour of the front button. What are the chances this will become reality?
It already lets you configure what the button does. You can also preset actions to open specific apps.

But that is in the ZUI ROM right? I'd like to see this in a separate app or built into custom ROM so it can also be used outside ZUI.
Now that the sources are available someone who knows what he is doing should be able to pull this off.
Is there a way to make swipe left on the u-touch button act like a back button? Maybe there would be a way to have it open an scripted action that acts as back button?
Edit: Just figured out that short tap is back, so my problem is solved!
Thanks, this helped me out!
I'm looking for a phone with this same exact button. I'm always super stunned how retarded iphones are compared to my $200 phone.

[REQUEST] IPhone X navigation bar gestures

Can someone make a module that replace the navigation and with gestures like on iPhone X? I really like the idea and I want to see it on Android .
Thanks!
+1
What would be the gesture for the back button? Swiping to the sides switches apps in the iPhone. The android ui relies on the back button.
Check all xposed modules

I don't know what exactly you are looking for, but have you tried Xposed Edge Pro? It is fantastic... and powerful. Probably will fit your needs.

Besides it Xposed Gesture Navigation also deserves a try.

Click on the edge of the screen? Or maybe hold?

I use swipe down on right edge center.
Up is menu.
Press and hold top is fast upwards.
Press and hold bottom is fast downwards.
Press and hold center is a pie app switching related.
Press and hold left edge center is general pie.
Press and hold bottom edge center is a pie clipboard related.
And lots of other stuff..... All with Xposed Edge Pro.
Needs Refinement
I love UI changes, so over the years I've tried things like Android Pie, Gesture control, exposed modules, and even multi window stuff all the way back in the tablet days of Android Honeycomb.
The problem is the lack of response breaks them.
When I swipe from the bottom I need instant feedback (visual/audio/haptic or all three) as to whether or not the phone thinks I'm scrolling down or going home.
When I realize I am scrolling down/going home and I want to be doing the opposite action, I need to be able to stop the gesture mid-way and reverse my action.
I need to easily be able to distinguish between the two gestures so that if I do mess up, I know what to do to get the desired result.
I need all other apps to accommodate/not request this gesture.
The iPhone does this well by having a bottom bar, you pull the bar up to go home, you swipe somewhere else to scroll. There is instant visual feedback, and the action can be stopped midway.
For Android here is a non-clone example.
1. Have a bubble/circle (looks like a chat-head) right where the home button is.
2. Swiping up behaves similar to pulling down (refreshing) on chrome/many apps. You start pulling and there is an animation but the action does execute till a certain threshold.
3. Swiping right-to-left has similar animation but for back button
4. Swiping left-to-right does the same but for multitasking
5. Long press for something else
This is not radically different from other gestures or Android Pie, but I believe the small changes and refinements would take it from being impractical to smooth and enjoyable.
I like the new iPhone X's "swipe bar" and I would love to find it on my android phone.
In my opinion a dedicated visible bar is better than "swipe on the edges".
Why? Because even "swipe on the edges" works obviously with a small area of the screen (otherwise is impossible to detect swipe gestures), but this area is transparent, which is cool but also bad: sometimes when you just tap on that area (when you're typing on the keyboard for example) an involuntary swipe is detected.
So in my opinion a visible bar like the current navigation bar is necessary.
But is definitely unneccessary such a big area!
So I imagine the perfect "swipe bar" a small, minimal and animated (when touched) area.
User should be able to map up to 4 different swipe gestures (up, right, down and left) and tap gestures (one tap, double tap, long press, ...)
I drew some concepts of the "swipe bar", what you guys think?

I miss this from my oneplus one. Is it possible to get that function on note8?

Double tap to wake screen? Think LG were first to introduce this.i rembere there were some apps on play store just to do that. Some gesture apps might have that feature.
But Note 8 has alternatives. You can wake up with on screen vibrating button and you can change sensitivity. Also using AOD it has sift button to double tap.

One less tap
I hard press the home button and boom it gets me direct to the home screen.

Yes
Hard press home is a much better alternative, at least in my opinion to double tap anyway.
Just press where the home button should be (even if you can't see it) as if it was a physical button, the phone will vibrate as if you have pressed a proper button and it will turn on, or go home.

I also use long press home on s8+
The big advantage is the prevention of accidental taps since the area to tap is much smaller than the whole or half the screen area

I miss it too.... And ambient display.... It saves more juice for the battery

These are from the S8+ forum. Haven't tried the double tap. Remove battery icon, carrier hider, and remove unlock text works.
Ok, so I guess they work except for the nav bar stuff. And reboot after installation of mod
The only thing with double tap to wake or hard press the home button is you still have your security feature after that. I find it easier just to hit my fingerprint. But I use Nova for double tap to sleep.

Hmm. Yes. Sometimes just to see the notifications I do not want to hit the power button.
You can double tap the Active Display home button. It will take a HARD press or a double tap. It doesn't use the whole screen, but I like the double tap better.
Anyone know how to combine the "lockscreen" with the "pattern"... basically have the pattern always display (and hidden)? It seemed to be an option on previous devices.
I just want to turn on my screen and swipe in my pattern. Right now, the minimalist lockscreen (while pretty), requires an EXTRA unneeded swipe before pulling up the pattern view.
There are too many taps/swipes going on just to get to the desktop. May seem trivial but I'm on my phone a lot for work so I am trying to save as much time as possible.

I use the "press screen" option with the Iris recognition and works flawless. Is fast and secure. Should give a try
Yea I've experimented with that. The picture it took of my eyes was blurry af, so I don't even know how it would work. It is pretty fast though, but the point is I don't want to really pick up my phone every second. Again, I work from home and in remote Support. I typically am remoted into a couple sites and use my phone for my dedicated email screen. So every few seconds I have to unlock.
I just feel like the Active Display is a good lockscreen already. Maybe I'll just remove the "lockscreen" altogether since it just adds a bunch of extra unneeded steps. What I want is just an Active Display > Hard Press or Double Tap > Pin or Pattern. The extra lockscreen is useless.

What is active display? You mean the always on display (aod)?
Anyways I think the phone does what you are asking.. with my phone on the desk I push down on the home button and it goes from the aod to the pattern in one press of the virtual home button. Then I swipe in my pattern.
You can also lower the pressure needed for the home button

In Display > Navigation bar options, there is an option for Hard press bypass the lockscreen. It was turned off in my phone. Someone in another thread clued me in.
That works as requested. It was just in a weird place. That option should be in lockscreen, since it directly references actions with the lockscreen.

I mean it affects every aspect of the UI, so I could also see the location of it argued the other way. Guess that's why we have a search bar in settings.

Disable go home on fingerprint sensor touch

So i use the on screen keys on my P10 but one thing that has been bugging me since i have it is the fingerprint sensor behaving like a home key, is there anyway to disable this? it's annoying when i'm on yt and a touch it unintentional and just goes to my homescreen

yeah I don't have any app that uses my fingerprint scanner except to log into PayPal
Its a global bug, i have it too
I really hate this too. I use the fingerprint sensor everywhere possible and this is really, REALLY getting on my nerves. I'd go back to my own Xperia Z5 if this wouldn't be what my employer got me. The Z5 actually has a very, VERY good power/lock button with a fingerprint sensor that actually is usable for something else than screen unlocking. I've used Xperia's for years and after a few weeks I'm really starting to miss my Z5 - mostly because of this. And full waterproofing, covered by warranty.
Is it too hard to add a setting to disable the button completely to use it ONLY as a figerprint sensor? I want to use the default Android navigation bar, not some unique gesture thing. At least Sony's Android has been very conservative for years but this thing is like any Samsung with tons of bloatware and this crappy and useless fingerprint sensor acting as a home button unless you touch it just gently enough. And I'm forced to use this for work. AaaAAaarrgGgh!
Edit: And I have the P20 instead of the P10.
Same gripe here. I downgraded to Nougat and the bug is still there. Very annoying.
Bump. Anyone has a solution for this? (Other than flashing a trevle rom)
I have this problem too. So annoying?
Only solution is t use the offscreen navigation buttons. Then the fingerprint button functions well.
Press once is 1 step back, long press is home.
Swipe over the button to see active programs and change or close them.
When u are used to it, u don't wanna go back.
I found a solution. Install this specific app, enable it, then set all actions to "none".
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.superthomaslab.fingerprintgestures
My parents just called. I got them a Huawei Tablet. They asked me if they could still return it because of this annoying behaviour.
Will try the app that was mentioned. Thanks

P20 Pro Virtual Navigation - Counter Intuitive...

Does anyone else find the Huawei P20 Pro's "virtual navigation" to be counter intuitive? The off-screen navigation controls make no logical sense.
Tapping the fingerprint sensor = back button
Holding the fingerprint sensor = home screen
Swiping from right to left across the fingerprint sensor = view open apps
Who designed this? Why is there no ability to customize it to a more logical function?
If it were my choice, this would be how it operates:
Tapping the fingerprint sensor = HOME
Holding the fingerprint sensor = RECENT APPS
Swiping from right to left across the fingerprint sensor = BACK
I feel like this makes much more sense for efficient usage? Does anyone else feel the same?
When I first used it I couldn't get the hang of it. Tried again and gave it a couple of days and once it clicks it's great.

Nice topic, can you use any fingerprint remappers kind of apps, and tell if that fixed the issue or not ?
I tried All In One Gesture but it looks clunky.
I will love to have Gesture across the screen rather than limited to the Button or the Navigation Dock....
I think the default gestures are very nice build. The ones I use more often is the ones that are easiest, and quickest to perform; "back" and "home". And the one I use most seldom is the hardest to do, and thats "recent apps". But I guess we all use our phone in a different manner, so customisation should be allowed.
I don't mind this arrangement but I do miss the ability to quickly double tap recents to open the last app you were using. I used that that a lot..

Exactly same issue for me
I use "Back Button" that creates some floating buttons for me on the right side. There you can double click to change to the reason app. Used them on my s8+ when hiding the on screen buttons.

Yup. Other than that I find the gestures just fine to use. Don't know why the op has the default assumption that their idea for a setup is more logical. Both are just arbitrary choices at the end of the day, and either setup would take some time to commit to muscle memory.
