So, I have an Exonys Note 8, purchased through Optus in Australia. Never dropped it, kept in a case, etc etc.
Yesterday, I noticed that the black paint is peeling around the bottom left antenna.
Anyone else have this issue, or am I just lucky?

Not impressed with this, or Samsung AU telling me I have to mail my phone in. This is supposed to be a flagship device, and they can't even paint it properly?
Think I might have to get an airbrush kit and fix the problem.
How bad is yours? I only have an area about 3mm in size so far.

Yes, on my Fingerprint Reader.
I baby my devices, otterboxes, clips, and screen protectors, and am very disappointed in this.
Waiting to hear back from Samsung but my expectations are low.

I sent them a very unpleasant email after a horrid experience with their live chat.
In Adelaide, they have a 'service centre' that DOESN'T SERVICE ANYTHING!
So they wanted me to take my phone there and let them send it off, and get a loaner either from my carrier or the service centre, and they will 'try to have my phone back within three days, but it could take up to two weeks for examination'.
I let them have it over that. I am in the process of starting a business. Getting a loaner means HOURS of time to migrate everything to the temp phone, then hours more to get it back on the Note. (Aussie internet sucks)
That's unacceptable for a $1,500 flagship device, especially in less than a month and while they are trying to rebuild their reputation after the Note 7 fiasco.
So now I get to see how they reply as well, which should be fun because I was absolutely vicious in my email.

Man, their phone and live chat support is just horrible. HORRIBLE.
Funny, in contrast, how their Sales Support goes the distance when you need something
I wish you the best of luck. Worse case, could always go the Twitter route and see how they respond publicly.

Sounds like a nightmare.
Never heard of this situation before with the coating coming away from the frame. Sounds very odd and certainly you MUST continue to hold Samsung responsible.
I cannot understand Samsung period. After what we went though last year one would think that if we buy a lemon Samsung would jump through hoops to rectify a customers situation? Nope, not good old Samsung.
It greatly concerns me as should this sort of thing happen to me I cannot afford to just let it go and purchase another mobile. I know from bitter experience with Samsung in this country, Southern Europe, that Samsung after sales doesn't exist. All sales work-distribution is left to a third party and to be blunt they don't give a shoot, literally!
I have, for the first time ever, insured this mobile with the outlet. If mine develop's a similar situation I will place an insurance claim.
I am informed by my outlet that these problems don't exist with the Chinese brads of mobile as they deal direct with the outlets with zero sub contractors involved. Samsung should take Note from that!
I am getting to the point with Samsung that if I didn't need that S-pen I would not purchase this brand again. I am still waiting for my bloody DEX that was pre-ordered TWO months ago! I hope Microsoft introduce their smartphone ASAP, it comes with a pen.
Back to you. Do you have any sort of consumer agencies in your country? If you do make a formal complaint with them. This country has a government backed consumer association that is as useful as boobs to a nun. Basically you would be stuffed here, hope that's not the case with you. Let us now how things progress. :highfive:

You'd think with the amount of money they generate , they could at least ask you to at min stop by a Samsung center and let a rep look at your phone then if he or she couldn't remedy the issue , then the rep would replace it on the spot!

As the mobile will have to be replaced why are Samsung causing a storm in a tea cup? Such a manufacturing problem can't be repaired.
I would initiate the process through your Ombudsman now and save the hassle with Samsung after sales. I do feel for you with this situation. Its not the problem its how Samsung don't rectify it. Lemons are part and parcel of the production process and when one crops up why oh why do Samsung make such a song and dance over it? It appears Samsung world wide have this after sales reputation. Very poor show indeed.

True. It's the only thing that I like about the iPhone. Their post sales service is great. I don't use iPhones, but everything else in my life is Apple. Whenever I have a problem with one of my computers or iPads, I just run down the street to the Apple store and they take care of it. It's the only reason that I've ever considered getting an iPhone over something else. In the end, I just get insurance from my carrier and hope that nothing goes wrong. I am assuming that my carrier would not cover "cosmetic" issues like peeling paint.

Yeah , I'm on the same page with you on this one also. My last iPhone was a 4s back in the days. Service was great.
A testament of a good company is their after sales service. With Samsung , it appears to be non existent. It will eventually bite them in the back.

Hi Tchalla,
"Thank you for contacting Google. It was a pleasure getting to speak with
you today. As promised, I've forwarded your case to a specialist to begin
working to resolve your issue as soon as possible.

still no response back. I wasn't expecting them to ship a replacement right away. They could have at least given me a time frame as to when they could. I will never buy from play store again. All you google fan boys or employee on here. Its not unreasonable to except communication from a retailer when dealing with defective items sold.
still no reply
Everyone agrees that it sucks to get defective products. But that doesn't make xda your personal complaints department. Don't start threads just to whine.
I think you're being a bit too sensitive on the issue...more than half of people that pre-ordered still haven't even received them. They're absolutely not going to replace yours before others get theirs. I understand you want more communication, but you've been given a written record (email) that they've taken your case and will help you with it. Now it's the weekend...so wait until Monday and see what happens.
I think there's a huge problem with this generation when dealing with patience. I'm sure Google will do whatever is required to satisfy you. Every problem I've had with them in the past they've gone completely out of their way to fix.
That reply is normal

I would disagree. As stated not looking to get it replaced before others receive their fist unit just wanted a timeline as to when this would be. They have not met the timeline they stated to me.
That does suck but its only been two or three business days. I don't think that's unreasonable and I'm betting they will make good on it. I think that for future purchases you may want to consider a local retailer to avoid having to wait for an online retailer, just based on my past experiences and what it seems like is important to you.
Most retailers are very lenient on returns and exchanges within the first fourteen days. However I think Google is more likely to replace the device immediately than some brick and mortar stores. They both have pros and cons but I've always had good luck with third party retailers gong above and beyond to keep a customer happy.
I hope things work out good for you in the end, and I'm pretty sure they will. Most likely they're well aware of your issue and they might already be looking into it, I wouldnt speculate that just because you haven't heard from them that they're ignoring you.

Ok I got my nexus 7 early Friday morning as soon as I turned it on I notice that the upper left hand corner was faded or has light bleed. Ok I played around with it for a while. I have no other issues with this device. I called Google customer support and told the nice representative that my device had screen issues and I want a replacement she said ok but I won't be able to receive a replacement on a 16gb for at least 2 weeks. So I said ok, she then emailed ten minutes later confirming my request. But then this morning I see the full charge of the nexus 7 and shipping back on my bank card and its still there up till now, so I'm confused. Haven't heard anything back from Google either. Anyone know what's going on here?

Went to local AT&T store for Note 3 + Gear. Got the Note, but the store didn't have any watches.
When I left, I called the one closer to work - they got some today but already sold out. Guess I picked the wrong store. I spend a while calling AT&T & T-Mobile stores around - nada. Even tried BB & RS - no luck there. Tried T-Mobile online, also all sold out.
Is this a real bad roll out, or is someone hoarding all the watches?

Bad Roll out. But Samsung always has these , I wonder if there was any hesitation on Sammys part given the atrocious reviews some people had.
It seemed like people were downright offended by this product.
The only one I have ever seen is the one I own. Never set eyes on one in a store etc? Note 3, yes, the Gear not a whiff? No idea why? Without the Note 3 the Gear is useless at present? Some very odd marketing with Samsung. This is nothing new in this country for this company though.

Samsung is being weird.
I think reviewers online and many potential customers were offended by the price. When it was discovered that the notifications were useless for anything other than Messaging/Email sites and there comments were full of bashing. For $300 people expected alot more....or maybe Samsung is getting backlash from iPhone fanboys ??
I dont know but people are bashing the Gear and its price tag everywhere.
Honestly if this was 150$-200$ OR if it worked the way people thought...reviews would be a little better.

If you compare what is on the market at present the Samsung is head and shoulders above the rest in terms of technology, functionality and software. I have said this many times and will write it again IF its fact the gear has a sapphire crystal that would well justify the price. You don't find sapphire crystals on watches costing 300.00€
I have niggles about the gear as well BUT would not dream of purchasing the Sony branded watches nor the others and I collect watches.
The Gear can make and receive calls and sms's that is a major selling point. If I can manage to get S-voice working wi fi free (the manual says it only needs blue tooth) I would be more satisfied as driving the car one need not takes ones eyes of the road to make nor receive calls My doubts lie in other areas like the strap and clasp. having written that there are no better in that regard either?
New technology is always expensive. Wait for the iWatch that will bring iTears to ones eyes. One other point, the price will have dropped like a stone within a few months in any case.

After way too much digging, I finally found one. Best Buy has some little cell stores in the area, but they showed on BB's store search (click item & search stores to see who has it).
At the store, they told me they got 5 the night before & sold 1 before mine. (They got 3 black, 2 white)
Why this little store had them when the full BB's had no clue what I was talking about... I have no idea.
I got mine for 225 amd couldn't be happier. Too bad I have to wait for the note 3 but it works fine with my s 4 just wish I didnt have to go back to this phone. Im gonna see if I download all the samsung stuff on an htc one with stock android if it will work which I highly doubt it will.
This Samsung launch was rather smooth compared to the Apple launch.
My store got one Gear in and it sold fairly quickly. Pretty impressive device.
Just picked a Mocha-colored unit from the local Ann Arbor, MI Bestbuy store. I haven't worn a watch in years and now am wearing one because of Gear! I don't know why some people don't think this watch is nice looking. It looks just fine to me, definitely having the quality and stylish look.
I'm trying it out right now but so far, so good.

So today I log in to my tmobile and see that I have a balance of $545. My first note 4 wasn't charging so I requested a warranty exchange in April. I called tmobile and they tell me the reason I'm being billed that is because the phone I sent back had a cracked lcd. My phone was in perfect condition when I sent it back. No way in hell was it cracked. The lady said it had a crack on the top right corner by the front camera. Not to mention my bill statement comes out tomorrow so that's another $110 right there. That's $655 due in 3 weeka. This is bull**** if they expect me to pay that. They already started some ticket or some investigation to see how they can solve this. I'm thinking maybe it was damaged while in transit by ups. And if it was damaged by ups, how is that my fault? I told the lady why would I return a cracked phone only to pay $550 for it when I could have just filed an insurance claim and only pay $175. I'm really upset and I'm hoping I'm not charged for this. Anyone else ever have a similar issue?
Sent from my SM-N910T using XDA Free mobile app
That's crazy. I'd fight them on it because you're right. It doesn't make sense when you could just file for insurance replacement. Get it elevated.
Tmo is still building their image and while they've been excellent to me, they can't really afford bad press at the moment. You can get them to back off on those charges, just be persistent.

If it was a tmobile phone they always get insurance with replacement phones. Once it leaves my hands it all in ups hands.
Well Tmobile called me the next day. The lady was really nice. I explained the situation and she agreed so they credited me the warranty fee. I feel so relieved because that's a lot of money to just pretty much give away.

Yeah, dealing with Tmobile sucks. They have done it twice where they say I have never sent my phone back when I jumped. Each time coseted me up to about 100 dollars extra due to paying for two phones while they try to find them. Was told that whatever happens during transit is not my fault and only theirs. Luckiyl the first time they took it off and reimburssed me, but the second time they took it off and didnt pay me back. They also tried to make me pay another month for a phone they just took off my account lol
I've been thinking about switching to T-Mobile because of the better development work being done on the N4 but administrative screw ups like this give me pause...
You can't slam a customer with a $500 mistake and expect good customer relations.

I had a feeling they would refund the charge. They are very concerned with their image & customer relations right now which makes them one of the better carriers in terms of customer relations right now. Basically they are beholden to us for their growth and success and they don't need or want bad press. No doubt they will take advantage of those who don't argue charges like that but if that ever happens just get the issue elevated & the charges will disappear.
If they weren't in the position they are I wouldn't be so certain of this but they are desperate to grow & improve and at least for a while, they will bend over backwards for the customers. It's a beautiful thing. I can honestly say after being with all the other carriers for years (5 years each) the last 4 years I've spent with tmobile have been the best. No surprises. it's definitely worth it imo.

I switched to tmobile about a year ago, couldn't be happier. Their customer service have always been good to go if I called for anything. Sprint and verizon, not so much.
Thanks, I appreciate the reassurance.
I'm with Sprint & have had no problems with direct customer service but that last update they pushed out is a total fiasco IMO.

Does anyone know the current Note 5 sales figures / volume / number?
The closest thing I could find is a comparison of its sales compared to the Note 6+ Edge but no concrete numbers.
I wonder if Samsung is keeping silent on the numbers because sales are disappointing?
If sales were record-breaking, I'm sure they would market it and love to throw it in Apple's face.
I'd like to know, too. the new iPhone sales and availability has been crazy than what I remember with the Note5 after release.

I have heard the Note 5 sales were hurt because they did not offer it in Europe (yet).

We may never know the real reasons. Officially, it was said Europeans are not that fond of a stylus and they would prefer the Edge+. I do remember, after a rather modest commercial start, the first Note got its success in great part from the European market.
When Apple finally announces a stylus for their iPad after explaining it was useless and after adopting the Note format they said was not a niche, I simply don't understand the strategy of Samsung.
However, rumors meet for an European version very soon.

As a European resident i'd find it more likely we don't want to be fooled be Samsung in giving us an inferior Note.
Just look at the previous iterations. Especially the 1, 2 and 3. They were by FAR the best/fastest/most loaded smartphones out at the time.
The current Note 5 is just an S6 edge plus with a pen (and acompaniing apps).
And im (as a note fan) completly disgusted by this...
Obviously if you don't like the note 5, then don't buy it. No need to be 'disgusted'.
It is just a phone...

As some one who actually owns the phone, it's night and day faster than my Note 4.
The fact the edge plus and note 5 are very similar disgusts you? I need your life if that's all it takes to disgust you.
Some of you guys need to think more like consumers and less like scorned fanboys expecting special treatment because once you defended the honor of TouchWiz in a comment thread of and apple product.
Also how is Samsung trying to be like apple?
There was mention that sales were hurting because they opted to not offer the note 5 in Europe. What is being ignored is while they are missing out on sales in Europe, they are also not paying to manufacture, advertise, and ship to Europe. So looking at units sold compared to last year and not actually looking at the bottom line is kind of short sighted and looks to be bias confirmation for some people.
Not saying sales will be better but for the sake of discussion look at the whole picture.

Wow, you make assumptions like you're a pro. Too bad they're wrong.
It's disgusting that their flagship line of products are now the same as the mass-consumer product.
But i understand if you don't get it tho. Understanding what people mean can be hard sometimes.

Lol so you are telling me that the Galaxy S6 isn't a flagship but a "mass-consumer product"? And it disgusts you that they used the same internals in the Note. LOL here we go..
First, before the Note Series existed, the S series was and is the defacto "flagship for Samsung". Keep in mind the Note started as a very niche product never intended to reach the number of sales that their flagship S Series did.
Do yourself a favor and search "Samsung flag ship" in google.. better yet let me do it for you:
http://lmgtfy.com/?q=Samsung+Flag+Ship
Please tell me what device occupies the majority of those results. I know this is simple but Im sure its more logic than you put into your response as an over privileged consumer elitist that can't be bothered with less than "flagship" quality..
Now that we have defined loosely what a "flagship" device is lets look at your reason for disgust. You're mad because a publicly traded company decided to save some money by not designing a whole new chipset and used one that exists and works. Not to mention that same disgustingly mediocre chip set is night and day faster than the last Note and killing it with a smaller battery.. Everything is faster, every, thing.. Some people will never be happy and swear the internet was created to gripe about the smallest things..
Also yes it is very hard to understand someone that attempts to articulate their confirmatory bias with ambiguous hype terms like "flagship" and "mass-consumer product". The hilarious thing is you think those two terms are not homogeneous in this use case.. :good:

I love music and books with a long commute to and from work when I want media on my phone.
I could live with a fixed battery but microSD is a must. I know other real users in a similar situation and it is with sadness that the Samsung phones can no longer meet my needs.
At the launch event a statement was made that Samsung listened to their users....... I have to question that statement.
I hope the next phones reintroduce SD support if I can wait that long........

The point is that people take Pictures and Videos. Over time, that takes up more and more storage, especially with quality and megapixels going up.
I have 60gb just in pictures and videos from the past 4+years. Just because people get new phones every 2 years doesn't mean they delete their old photo albums and start fresh. All those old memories pile up..
32gb on a phone isn't going to cut it. And I don't want to delete my old memories or upload them to the cloud and have to pay a monthly fee just to access them when I can buy a 128gb micro SD card for $45. Plus, I don't have to worry about having a solid LTE Signal. Plus, I can access a memory card in places where I get no service at all, like on a cruise ship or in a foreign country.
I need a swappable battery. I'm at Disney World and almost every here is walking around with their phones shackled to an external battery charger. It's so much easier to just carry a thin spare. It takes <30 seconds to swap and go from 0% to 100%.
Ok. You need those things, so you will need to buy a different phone...
Not everyone has the same needs, and samsung isn't designing the phone to meet everyone's needs - they are designing it to meet what they think the majority needs are and will sell.
It ok get a different phone. That's why they make different phones...
Is like being mad that you can only fit 5 people in a sedan, because got need to fit 7...

I am new to the Note 9. Up until this week, I had a Note 8 that I was happy with. However, my Note 8 had burn in on the screen, and since Verizon had no Note 8 devices in stock the gave me a Note 9. I love the 9 even better than the 8!
The only downside is that the phone came by itself: no charger, no headphones, and more importantly no SPen! I tried Verizon and Samsung directly, but neither has any of the ocean blue pens in stock. Has anyone had any luck with the ones from Amazon? With all the fakes out there, it is so hard to determine what is a genuine spen. I am thinking of taking a chance on one until they are back in stock. Thanks in advance for the advice!
Samsung US has' em ready to ship for $14.99:

I tried to order one yesterday and the website didn't give me any options to buy online, it directed me to a Verizon store. I ordered from B&H and was gonna wait for it. Since the post above said they are available direct now with no wait, I canceled my B&H order and bought one from samsung.

Wait, Verizon gave you a Note 9 with no box? No charger and no S-Pen? How is that possible? Did they just find one outside of a box and hand it over, or something? Even a refurb would have a charger but to not come with an S-Pen. That sounds pretty shady.

That is what I thought as well. However, after speaking with the customer service team they said it was the same as a warranty replacement. Since they replaced my note 8, they said the Note 9 was not supposed to come with any accessories (charger, earbuds, and spen). I have been trying to argue with them since Tuesday to get it made right.

What a BS answer from them. The S-Pen is a vital part of the Note device. It's built into the damn phone. Wow... Yet another example of what a ****e service provider Verizon is. Even when I was with Sprint they never pulled that crap with me, and T-Mobile? Forget about it, they're the best with this kind of thing. I hope you can find a way to leave them for someone better.

Lmao! Trust me, as a non-millenial it pained me to even ask for the pen!
On a good note, I received the pen yesterday and this phone is amazing with it! I have had the Note series since the 3 and I always felt like subsequent units made little to no improvements over their predecessors, until now. I can certainly feel the difference in this phone and the pen is icing on the cake!

Glad you were able to take delivery w/o having to wait too long & at a relatively inexpensive cost. :good:
As for the sentiments surrounding the S-Pen,it shouldn't have pained you a bit to ask for it.
It's not as if the S-Pen is a universal accessory akin to a cord/charger adapter/earbuds/etc......... it's the defining element of what the Note series is.
Excluding it also leaves the phone at greater risk to foreign material/water intrusion.
VZW pulled a D*** move by not including it w/your warranty exchange.

I'm not sure it's a **** move. They probably have certain units set aside for warranty replacement. Typically you'd be exchanging one Note 9 for another and would've kept all your accessories, including the S-Pen. I agree it's a necessary accessory, but the OP could have technically kept his Note 8 S-Pen and used it until the new S-Pen came in. It fits in the slot and works, just not the new Bluetooth features.
Not saying it didn't SUCK to have to go buy an S-Pen and wait, I just don't think Verizon was like, "Hey, let's screw this guy over and keep his S-Pen *maniacal laugh*"

Definitely a win!! When the S-Pen went on sale for $15 I snagged one just as a backup in case I lose/break mine. I actually had enough Samsung rewards points from using Samsung Pay that it only cost me $0.93 after tax and free shipping. And they still sent it via 2-day priority mail.

I agree with everything you said! I was hopeful I would get one new in the box, but I figured I would get the warranty replacement.
