Has anyone had Root yet? Need help. - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions and Answers

Hi folks,
If you guys have rooted your phone, please help to test the following app:
Phone INFO ★Samsung★ : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.vndnguyen.phoneinfo
I need to check if the Usage History (Charger Connect counter, S-Pen Detach counter, Headset Connect counter) is available in the Note8.
You can check if they exist in the PERSONAL tab or in the "Refurbishment Check" menu.
Thanks.

Yeah, works for me.
(I've been using your app since my Note 2, thanks)

Please show me a screenshot of the tab "CSC CODE" if it is possible.
I want to check if all info are shown with a rooted device.
Thank you.

And from my Note 5, also rooted.

And just a FYI, I noticed signal strength does not report whenever connected to LTE.

Oh, sorry about that, forgot to mention. Light one is from stock firmware & CSC. Dark one is after I installed the tmobile transformation mod. Both are rooted.
I included both cause on stock CSC it didn't show anything for original csc & thought maybe it might tell you something.

Thank you for your info.
I have no idea on tmobile transformation mod as I'm not familiar with it.
It sounds a bit weird.
I will look into it to find the cause of the difference.

Mine doesn't show the usage counters.

note 3 questions.

Hi dear all.
I'll be fast and short.
So I have note 3.
Rooted.
Then had xposed.
Wanam was great.
Then I got an update.
Around 130 mb.
1st my root is gone ---expected...
2nd when I make a call
it was dialing gray/back color.
connected. Green color.
call is disconnected. Red/orange.
Now dialing and connected are green which I don't like.
My questions are.
1. can this be fixed ?
2. If I root again will I lose my updated ?
Sorry if the question sound stupid but I am learning from you good people.

You missed two chances to not be in this mess.
1) First thing you should always do after rooting is freeze the OTA update app in TB and make sure you don't update it until the wonderful people at XDA confirm that the new update doesn't cause problems with rooting or other things you need to do.
2) Before doing OTA update, you could have used the OTA Update Survival Mode feature of SuperSU to (hopefully) keep your root through the upgrade process.

Sometimes kingo requires multiple tries.
MK1/MK2 firmware? That's very new... Haven't seen any mention of it around here. Maybe they closed the exploit kingo uses?
Cannot see the pic but sounds like you have an international phone. If so u are in the wrong forum.

Basically, use logcat in play store or use adb through cmd lines on computer by following the tutorial (best method).

Depends on which you decide to do. If you do adb method, its running in background of phone constant. Just follow as instructions say and itll work perfectly. For play store one, start service then do all process then go stop and save logcat file.

Dude.... That's EXACTLY what I'm doing right now... thank you.
Just to let you guys know, I was actually able to successfully overwrite my SecSettings.apk and my services.jar without screwing my phone up at all. I think maybe if we can tweak the services.jar file it might start working. It's very obviously locked out in that classes.dex file (look for the smartbonding files)
I tried copying the entire smartbonding folder within classes.dex, unpackaged from services.jar from the sprint thread. There is obviously more to it, however. My phone does boot (with original but modified services.jar), sprint SecSettings.apk, and the odex files provided. But still no download booster. Anyone have any other ideas? I'm not exactly sure where to look at this point.
I don't have this phone yet but I was thinking that you can probably edit the build . prop to that of the international s5 to get more features. Just edit the phone name for ex tolteatt to that of the init s5 tolte look in the att note2 Dn3 Rom for examples on which edits to make.

Isn't there a way to root this device yet?

Isn't there a way to root any version of this device yet? I can live without cyanogenmod or many custom roms but without root would be really tough.
There is root and cyanogenmod 12 for g800f and g800h.

But i have one small question: do you need to unlock the bootloader in order for this to work ? Because they always say that in rooting tutorials.

Just unlock bootloader in Motorola's devices, in Samsung's devices no need it but your knox counter will trigger like unlock bootloader (warranty is void)

I performed a software update when I got the phone a few weeks ago - does this change the build No? Kind of annoying if so, haha - as probably could have rooted with the method mentioned otherwise!
Anyway, thanks a lot for the advice I'll check in a Chainfire forum.

I am rooted using CHAIN Fire's CF AUTOROOT - the trick is you have to use the Latest ODIN - 3.10.6 I think - here is a link

Donf use the ODIN that comes with CF Auto Root unless he has updated it to the one I have linked to here. THis is the only one that works that I know of.
GOOD LUCK

I saw that too but I didn't know what it was and wasn't sure what would happen if I didn't accept it - so I did - maybe I should forget it? What could it be?
I haven't figured it out yet. I denied it until I know what it is. Also has to manually freeze and remove all the Knox crap, SuperSU didn't ask me to disable it...
If we root, will Knox be tripped if we don't install it?

Yes, it will trip your Knox counter.
That brings me to a question I had, hopefully @Chainfire can answer. ..
After root, supersu didn't ask me to deactivate Knox; why? is it safe to go and freeze or remove all the Knox crap?
Unfortunately I'm waiting until I hear more information on Knox in regards to Samsung Pay. I know Chainfire and others mentioned the possibility of it needing an un-tripped counter, but until we know for sure I'm staying un-rooted (which is killing me).

I think he was saying the logic of 'you never had it, therefore you won't miss it if you don't get it' was stupid. Whereas you were being a little more gracious saying it was 'interesting' logic. In all honesty, it is a ridiculous argument. Of course you will 'miss' features that the phone should include if you lose them due to root. Even if you would not have used the feature, it still is a missing feature, just one you personally do not care about.

Root after Update?
I received the S6 two days ago. It came with Android Ver. 5.0.2 and there was an update available as soon as I activated the phone. I have not yet taken it. Has anyone taken this update and then rooted successfully?

Samsung recently updated its version history @ http://www.samsung.com/us/support/answer/ANS00036623/997495262/

I guess time will tell, I wouldn't think it'd be possible to load a system app without root just with adb. I guess since it's an official Samsung dealio.

it won't be long since they've just released it for other models. I will need the ODIN of update.zip since I am not an ATT customer and I cannot receiva OTA.

ODIN requires your phone to be bootloader unlocked, it's complex and risky, plus you'll wipe everything on the phone.
Why not just borrow an AT&T sim from someone with an AT&T phone? I've done that few times in the past, just take about half an hour, mostly waiting for it to be downloaded.
Another option would be look for the Samsung Experience Center in Bestbuy, they can upgrade for you when it's ready, don't think the update is ready as of now.

That is not true, Odin works fine on bootloader locked devices.
