Hi guys,
I just went into system apps, via Solid Explorer to grab an apk to put on my dev-host, when I got an error saying that I don't have root access.
I tried accessing other files in system root to get the same error. So I downloaded Root Checker and for some reason that's also saying that I don't have root access.
I know for a fact I have though as I've just been using root only features in ROM Toolbox Pro without an issue.
Any ideas as to why it's saying I don't have root access when I clearly do?
I'm on stock 4.2.2 and used the rooting tools in mike1986.'s thread to root once I'd flashed the stock ROM.

I downloaded the deodexed version which had superuser installed by using the rooting tools.
I flashed it a few days ago and have had no issues with being rooted until now. As I say, I'm still rooted but my phone's telling me I'm not and I'm not sure why.

It already had the permissions from when I first installed solid explorer.
I just found out what my problem was. Superuser was installed by default and I downloaded SuperSU afterwards and must've disabled superuser and therefore was getting partial unroot issues.
I've now uninstalled superuser and I've got full access back

That's the question. Update downloaded ok but I did not install it as I did not want to lose Root access. I have not seen anyone who used Geohot's Active Root to root their phone get the OTA installed.
I have a ton of stuff quarantined (what happens to them? Do they get released/un-quarantined?)
I have other programs that only work with root access such as Ti Backup and AdAway. Will they just cease to function?

You might want to be careful with that. From what I've read in the S4 forums after some unknown amount of time the update will install itself. The only known way to prevent it it to freeze wssync with Titanium Backup. If it never prompts you to install the update you're probably fine, but if it does I'd look into the TiBu option.
if you have knox 0x0 and took a OTA update does this mean you cant re-root i was rooted then i was foced to update then my root was gone
but my custom rom stayed and super su has now lost all granted access so i'm confused am i not able to root any more because of the update

If su is still there (/system/bin/su or /system/xbin/su), all you need is SuperSU, which you can install from the Play store. (Without an "su-ish" app, apps can't get root, even though su is installed.) If su isn't still there you'll have to root again.

No, if SuperSU is still there and you don't get root, the su binry is evidently missing. That mans that you have to root all over again. (You need to be rooted to install the su binary, which you aren't, so ... which is why rooting uses an exploit [a different one in each line of phones] to get temporary root so it can install su to get permanent root.)

i have tried with odin but it keeps failing should i use the kingo root insted ?
at this stage what would be the best way to re-root
thanks in advance
Are you following these instructions? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2559715
Everyone else seems to report that this method for getting root works.
Kingo root works (though some people don't like Kingo)
Also - always freeze OTA update app after you root, otherwise you'll lose root with every OTA update.
If you're expecting an OTA update, you can unfreeze the app, then use SuperSU survival mode, then let it update, and then turn off survival mode to get root back. But ofc it's too late for that now in your case.

Kingo is fine. The Heimdall and Odin one is a pain in the but and risky. Mostly for restoring. I used kingo and its just fine. If you mess up then you can go to that other link and restore with or without root.

I have done it several times. After achieving root with King Root and successfully installing TWRP I chose to remove Kingroot. It worked well but some have said it is a bit uncertain whether or not the developers of Kingroot are monitoring your phone. I used super-sume to remove Kingroot and replace it with Chainfire's SuperSu.
http://androidmtk.com/replace-kinguser-with-supersu
Another method for removal is to do it manually with the following procedure.
http://www.w0lfdroid.com/2015/05/How-to-Remove-Replace-KingUser-KingRoot-with-SuperSU.html
I had various problems with either of these methods working until I did the swap without my SD card installed.
Hi, I recently rooted my Z3c using KingRoot. I ten installed custom Rom: SLiM ROM 4.9. Works great, but now I found out Kingroot is very untrustworthy. How do I remove/replace kingroot without loosing root?
I rooted as per these instructions:
whattechsays.com/root-xperia-z2-z3-lollipop
So I have SuperSU installed, but KingRoot does not appear in apps list - so no option to uninstall. I can see kingroot folder in internal memory. Is deleting this sufficient to remove kingroot and any potential back-door?
I am new to rooting, so please explain simply if you can.
Many thanks.
Better remove Kingroot, and unroot all at once. You have Slimrom installed so I'm assuming your bootloader is unlocked so simply flash SuperSu Zip via recovery to get back root.
Kingroot is unreliable and shady when it comes to rooting devices in fact its not even endorsed here in Xda

I already have SuperSU installed already. And when I run rootcheck it says SuperSU has root. I have ' uninstalled' Kingroot, however kingroot folder/files remain on internal memory and I assume it could still be active and hiding it's process?

Came across this thread from Google, but since it doesn't look like you really got an answer, here goes.
When you flashed Slim ROM, you would have replaced the system partition where Kingroot was installed, meaning it is no longer there at all.
The files left on the internal memory would have been written by Kingroot before and can just be deleted.

Oh dear, another Kingroot user stuck, how many warnings about Kingroot need to be posted on the threads before people listen.
Personally, knowing about what Kingroot does and the information it sends to China, I would wipe my phone and start from scratch.
There is a good guide written by bilboa1, which is very easy to follow.
Frenik is right, if you flash a rom, then the system should get wiped also. Just make sure you wipe data as well as dalvik/cache then you might end up with a Slim rom with SuperSU.
http://zidroid.com/how-to-get-ride-and-replace-kinguser-with-supersu-app/
I used the version 2.4 and worked like a charm
Although as above... even though i have stepped on the same rake as you... don't use KingsRoot... there probably is a fake copy of my phone somewhere in china thanks to that...
"use SuperSu Me" app

Hi fellas. I write ehre in order to not open a new thread. I recently bought one of this little beasts. I'm running 23.4.A.1.264 (stock in phone), Android 5.1.1. I've succesfully rooted it with king root 4.9.5. I've tried to change it to Supersu without success. I've tried supersu me, the script to remove kingroot to supersu from ver 1.8 to 2.4 and always lose root permissions. Could someone tell me what the f*** I am doing wrong?
