This might sound stupid but have you tried cleaning the glass on the camera? And make sure that it is not scratched/cracked.

Yes. I tried cleaning camera lens several times yet still no positive ?

post some photos of the blurry image here. Post a landscape and portrait photo of a close subject. my friend also had same problem, he changed the camera module himself and all is good now. luckily the module is cheap if u bought directly from china. not degrading in picture quality overall.

I've seen a similar issue on other users phones in OnePlus forums and elsewhere. Everyone seems to be having this issue on the 4.5.XX update. Do a clean flash back to 4.1.x and see if it's fixed. If not, your focus sensor is dead.

As thes3usa mentioned, Seems like many users are facing issue after OOS 4.5.x update. But still its not confirmed whether the issue is related to hardware or software.
Its also reported in the OnePlus community that flashing old version of OOS doesn't help either
Can anyone tell me whether can i claim warranty for this camera issue ?

Any update to the issue friends?

Hey,
Where did you buy your device from? OP Store? or a reseller in your country? Whichever it is, unless you've given the device a hard drop or something like that, I think you should be able to claim warranty on camera failure, since it's an internal error, and not done by your own hands.
P.S.: Next time, use the reply function when you're replying or quoting another post.
Cheers!

Camera can no longer focus properly when taking macro photos in 4.4 KitKat

Hello! First of all, sorry that I posted this thread in the wrong forum before coming here. I will make the thread again here and ask for the old one to be deleted.
Here is the problem: My Z1 camera can no longer focus at very close distance, since the 4.4 update. In order to show you what I am talking about, here are two photos:
i.imgur.com/5pu42ki.jpg
i.imgur.com/OfON30j.jpg
Both taken in 4.4 FW, in Superior auto mode. I also tried in Manual, but the results are also very bad and out of focus.
To show that this is absolutely not normal, here is a photo taken with the same phone in 4.3:
i.imgur.com/cinWn3o.jpg
Here is a photo taken with ASUS Memo Pad HD 7, with a relatively cheap camera that it has built-in:
i.imgur.com/Wqn3nkU.jpg
It would probably do even better in good lighting conditions. I've encountered one more user in the Sony forums with this issue and I presume either it's rare, or people just haven't found out about it yet. Can you guys do a quick test with your Z1s (assuming you are on 4.4) and see if you can get it to focus at very close distance?
Thank you for your time!
Regards

BUMP. Seriously, no one has tried this?
Which ROM? Which FTF? Which version of the Z1? Are you rooted? Have you unlocked the boot? Have you flashed any mods?
Also, that picture you say is fine from the 4.3 rom seems to be taken from further away than the similar one on the 4.4 Rom.
Try clearing data from ALL camera apps in settings.

Hello,
The phone is not rooted, and has the 4.4 FW (14.3.A.0.681). I know the 4.3 pic is from further away, but the other photos are taken with a tablet at quite a similar distance. I have not flashed anything, just updated to 4.4. It doesn't seem normal to me that it can not focus at this distance.
Here is another picture from today. You can see the Windows key is not focused. I do not believe this distance is too small, this does not seem normal to me.

My camera is not focusing (auto/manual)

Hi there, my camera is having a real trouble right now.
I take my phone from the box and get the update from 4.0.2 to 4.0.3.
I did it.
Then I used like my daily phone but... the camera didn't Focus, manual or auto focus, just can't focus.
I did a wipe... Still the same problem.
I did a re-install of the 4.0.3 ROM. Still have problems.
What can I do?
Thanks.
Sorry about my english. I'm from Argentina.
If you've already wiped and re-flashed OOS, then it's likely a hardware issue.
I would contact OnePlus's warranty service prior to opening up the phone and trying to fix it yourself.

That's something that I don't want to read.
God... What a luck.
Thanks mate =/
I've got the same problem. I wiped not the sdcard data on the phone (storage/emulated/0) but everything else I wiped with TWRP as I updated to the latest OOS 5.0.3: Problem still exists, nothing solved. The phone is running fine, but the camera doesn't autofocus, every picture is blurry.
Has someone information for me, on what to expect, when I contact the OnePlus support with this problem? Or has anyone tried to repair it by himself/herself?
I had same issue around 6 months back. Its a hardware issue so don't waste your time flashing different roms like i did. Then i went to OnePlus Exclusive Store and they checked my phone and they told me that, they will fix it for FREE (even if your phone is out of warrenty) its a well known issue for 3 & 3T which OnePlus noticed a year back, as many users started facing this. If you are facing same issue then just go to the service center and get it fixed (it wont take more than an hour)
Tip: There is a third party company called Regenersis, which is authorised service center for OnePlus and many other brands, you can get it fixed here as well.
Cheers!
Same problem for me, sent to repair under warranty.
If you shake the phone the focus point will change? this is what happens to me, for a couple of months I was shaking the phone every time that I was taking a picture, sometimes focus was in the right place and I could take the picture

Yes, slight tapping of the phone in the palm of my hand sometimes made the phone focus for one time...

Hi folks, I asked OnePlus for a repair and they handled this quite well: My phone was back after eight days, now my camera is focusing again.
But now I'm questioning myself (and you, too )...:
A) What was the reason for this defect in the first place... Is there anything I can do to avoid it happening again?
B) I used different versions of the modded Google camera app in the past, but now I'm hesitating to install it again: could anything of this app might have damaged the focus of the camera module? Maybe the app tried to focus the camera out of its working range...?

A) Probably just a random hardware failure. It happens. Not much you can do about it. It's a mechanical component (the few left on phones these days) and can fail on day one, or not fail for years. Don't drop the phone too much, is probably the best you can do! lol
B) I doubt it was the fault of the Google camera app. I've been using the Google camera mod for a long time, with no issues.

I used a couple different builds, but haven't messed with it for a very long time. I put 5.1.018Arnova8G2-V1.3 on there a long time ago (over a year) and haven't updated it since.
EDIT: I have no better explanation for my lack of updating the Google Cam mod, other than I just fell out of the loop. Your question made me realize how far that mod has come during that time! I just installed the recent version 6.1.021 by Arnova8G2 and giving it a try.

Black Screen of Death BSOD

Announcement: Maybe we are close to a software solution
Dear Friends,
my HM2014813 has several problems:
On some AOSP roms I get BSOD: When screen gets locked and black, I can't turn it on unless I remove and reinsert battery.
On LineageOS PowerOFF does not work properly. Ends in a situation like BSOD
After booting into TWRP the touchscreen is unresponsive. I have to lock and unlock, to get response.
I think I'm not alone with this problem. Most of us get recommendations like that: Replace Screen
This problem is not present in every rom. So there should be a solution without hardware modification. What else can we try?
For reference here are the HM codes: source
Redmi 2 1/8GB & 2/16GB/Prime = HM2014811 / 17/18/21 (wt88047)
Redmi 2 A / Enhanced = HM2014812 / 13/16 (wt86047)
Redmi 2 Pro = HM2014819
Before I continue, I'd like to remind you that Redmi 2A is a china-only phone, the chipset isn't Qualcomm based, but Leadcore based. My fellow friends that I know that have a WT86047 aren't Redmi 2A's. They're running Qcom and have no signal loss in my country.
I picked WT88047, but honestly I've seen them in all of those variants (except Redmi 2A variants). I have 4 friends that bought 2016's batch of shipped RM2 (Prime or just RM 2). These friends of mine didn't buy at the same place, 2 of them bought it online and the 2 others bought it from a local vendor (not an official Xiaomi store). From those 4 friends of mine, 2 of my friends got the HM2014813 (WT86047), one got HM2014818 (WT88047) and the last one got a HM2014811 which is the same as mine.
All of them (including me) faced the same bugs (BSOD, screen freezing, TWRP not working). So it's not just a specific variant of RM2, but all of them. Hypothetically (CMIIW) all RM2's that are shipped at 2016 above nearly all of them have this bug (unless you bought it from an official Xiaomi store, which is pretty much hard to find, because Xiaomi don't show, even sell, old phones). 2 of my friends sold their devices, one friend of mine sticked it with it's current case and stayed on stock MIUI & my last friend (with the HM2014813 - WT86047) followed my lead by changing his screen with an official screen that he got from a relative that has an unused RM2, bought from an official vendor. Now me and him can go custom rom or modding all we want without those old bugs that used to plague our phones.
So to the RM2's batch 2016 are all shipped with bad and faulty hardware parts. Mostly nearly of them are faulty sensors. Or maybe those RM2's that are shipped are refurbished RM2's that are given bad parts or maybe bad LCD screens. Like I said before in my previous posts about this, It's the sensors. They are totally bugged. I don't know what made them that way. Why I said it was the sensors? Because my old front sensors got changed when I checked it with a system specs app. My local part vendors sell RM2 LCD's and when you buy a LCD, it's a whole package, you can't by per-parts (unless you disassemble them one buy one). What I mean "it's a whole package" is if you buy an LCD, you will get the touchscreen and front sensors with it. If it's not the sensors, maybe it's the touchscreen (just using my logic here)
I don't know about fixes and stuff (without having to do hardware modif). I'm not a developer, I don't understand that much about BLOBs and shims. Well let's hope someone who's a developer and has a RM2 with those bugs show up with a fix so that people don't have to do any hardware modifications on their bugged RM2's.

Well custom roms are for modification, so If you're not impressed with how the music sounds like in custom roms, you could always just install a mod for it. There's Viper4Android, Dolby Digital Plus, AM3D Zirene, etc. Just find what you need, flash the mod per instructions you need and voila, you've got better music in you're custom rom. Installing these sound mods even work well in MIUI. You've got dozens of Camera apps that may (or maynot) go better on in custom roms than MIUI. Just saying though, if you love MIUI it's fine to stay on MIUI.

I tried it once when my device was still having those bugs. It doesn't work. At all.
I had two redmi 2 online and both had the BSOD issue. It didn't matter which MIUI version it was on, it can still get triggered into the BSOD.
This is the procedure that triggers it.
1.Start an app that generates a lot of objects
2.Keep the device with the app until the back is warm/hot
3.Exit from the app or click home
4.Now quickly press the side power button to turn off screen
5.Redmi Black Screen and cut off from power even if you had music app on.
I have concluded that it might be a hardware issue since I had test another none online redmi 2 with these redmi 2 with the same MIUI version. What should triggered the same effect did not affect the none online redmi 2.
Perhaps using a soft lockscreen button might be able to avoid this issue.
Mine starts getting this problem after I changed the display (bought cheap from aliexpress). Never had a single problem before, while now miui is the only rom that works

Then you should thank the devs for pulling this one off. Either they've tweaked or fixed what created the bug or because Android Oreo doesn't communicate with device drivers the same way as it's predecessors. Thanks for testing Oreo and latest Lineage. I'll recommend these to my other pals that are still bugged with BSoD. Cheers :highfive:

Camera underexsposing

Hi. I am interested in getting this phone.. But most of the camera tests I see online, the images are too dark. Also, strangely, although images are generally underexposed, they still somehow manage to blow out highlights sometimes.
I am very impressed with the camera quality apart from the issues stated above, but surely they are software issues and can be fixed with a patch or alternative camera app?
Thanks

Awful Camera?

So I got the XZ1C recently, it's on Android 9, came like that out of the box. I think it was an ex display model from Russia.
The thing is, the camera seems absolutely awful. I've attached a picture I took of a simple grey carpet in OK light conditions. As you can see if you zoom in, there's loads of yellow and blue dots that appear on the picture. Most pictures also come out really noisy, making details a blur.
I have an XZ3 Compact here and it takes better pictures than this, and has never had the coloured dots issue. Is my XZ1C faulty, or is this normal?
Appreciate any help on this!
Oh and my bad for having 2 threads up. I just figured this was quite a different topic but if a mod wants to merge it with the other one that's fine :good:
Hm yeah something doesn't look right at all. How zoomed in is that photo? I just took an up close shot in medium lighting and this is how it came out. Granted I'm running LOS 16 but I think the stock camera should be just as good if not better.

It's not even zoomed in much. Here's a standard picture I just took. I've not got as good lighting, it's just with a dull light on but it's not exactly bad lighting.
When you zoom in slightly it's pretty easy to see the dots everywhere. A lot of my pictures are also immensely noisy, the detail is just completely lost on anything far away. It's like some sort of awful compression.
I tried messing around with some settings, It improved a little but it's still pretty bad. Even the pictures that come out better than my Z3C have the horrible dots everywhere.
Yours looks good though and more along the lines of what I'd expect from the Camera. What do you think it could be?

Have you looked in the service menu to see if the phone has been unlocked? An unlocked phone with no DRM would give you bad grainy pictures.
There's achance that it's been rooted and just had android 9 put back on it, which leaves the camera working, sort of.

I thought it might be that, but I'd be very surprised if it has been rooted. When I checked the service tests on 9, it said "Bootloader Unlock allowed: Yes", but I'm not sure how to see if it has actually been unlocked
I flashed an Oreo .ftf with Newflasher though, and my camera doesn't work on Oreo. The service menu here states rooting status is unknown and mentions nothing about the bootloader. I'm not sure if I just made a mistake somewhere though and that's why that's happened, It'd be very odd if it was rooted before
If you have Oreo installed, just flash DRM fix, if this gets the camera working properly then problem solved.

Yeah there's definitely something wrong. You'd know the bootloader was unlocked if when booting the device you get the screen this device cannot be trusted warning.
FWIW my device is rooted with no DRM keys and the photos are still coming out great. What I would do first is factory reset the device. If still no improvement, flash different Pie firmware using the flash tool, like Customized EU or Customized UK. Lastly see if the results vary with other camera apps.

Oh yeah I've not seen that screen, I assume it's still locked then. I tried 2 Oreo firmwares, one was a German one, the other a UK one. The camera worked on neither.
I then tried a Global one (couldn't find one on the latest version of Oreo so it was a few versions back) and the camera worked. The same issues are still present though, maybe a slight bit better. I'm pretty baffled by what it could be.

Have you not tried any pie firmware? I would flash one to see if any difference. If still no change I can only assume there being a hardware defect. Maybe you ended up with refurbished device.

On one of the firmwares, I think it was a UK one, I updated manually through the phone to Pie. No improvements unfortunately. I may try another one just for testing sake, good idea.
I did find something interesting though. I was looking online and saw a techradar review of the XZ1C. I've attached a picture that they took with the camera. It has the same coloured dots issue I'm experiencing with the phone.
I also tested my Z3C some more. When I'm in camera mode and I zoom in, I can see a similar issue with coloured marks, but once I take the picture itself, the post processing fixes everything and I get a nice clean image. The post processing on my XZ1C doesn't seem to do the same. It's a much faster camera but doesn't seem as clean. I took a screen recording showing this, not sure if it'd really help if I uploaded it for you to see though.
Okay - I see what you mean but I don't think you'll get a better picture than that to be honest, the camera software is just not great at post-processing to begin with. It's great in medium to high lighting, but anything in low light comes out grainy. My images look about the same if I view them on a large screen and zoom in. I had vastly superior results running GCam on my Xperia X Compact but unfortunately GCam on the XZ1C is not possible currently, if at all.
Also, if you still want to try, there's bunch of firmware here to download:

Oh, so this is probably pretty normal for this phone then. I was worried my model was faulty honestly, I suppose it is a little relieving though disappointing to see. I flashed another Android 9 firmware, no difference. Thanks for all the help with this, appreciate the prompt responses and help!

@betacrypt Last note about the camera. All my pictures from the front facing camera come out mirrored. I can't seem to find an option to turn this off. Any ideas?

No option that I know of in the stock camera app. Best bet would be to use a different camera app. I know Footej supports flipping the image.

Thanks, appreciate that! Seems bizarre that there isn't native support for it. Seems like a basic feature.
