Huawei Mate 10 pro LPDDR4 / UFS2.1 ??? - Huawei Mate 10 Guides, News, & Discussion

Hi to all!
I read the Huawei Mate 10 pro spec sheet from the official Huawei site. There was no mention about the memory speeds, just the size. So, I asked Huawei Finland. Is there LPDDR4 and UFS2.1, or something else?
First answer somewhat surprised me: "we don't know, but will find out". Ok then, pls find out, it's important.
The second answer surprised even more: They gave me a link to the official spec sheet, and said "We cannot give more detailed info to consumers at this point".
Are we really supposed to guess these specs? We all know why I got that kind of an answer. Huawei P10 memory "scandal" isn't too far behind. And even Samsung did almost the same with the S8 835-version. And the fact that there is a shortage on UFS2.1 memory.
I suspect they're about to repeat the P10 all over again.

Refused to give the information
Now I got email from huawei finland, where they refuse to give information on memory types for the pro-model. Obviously they have something to hide.

I have seen many screenshots put on Chinese social accounts from day one to make sure it runs UFS2.1 and yes all of them were UFS2.1. Also confirmed here (@ 22:35): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q856NsNXie8
However the fact that they did not specify it does make it suspicious. Cannot rely on devices that were given to reviewers.

Absolutely correct, same guy today tested with andro bench both mate 10 and pro versions. Surprisingly, there was a difference. Pro was the winner, and results suggest that at least the reviewers version has ufs2.1. But the regular mate might not.
Interesting thing here is, that huawei does not tell anything. Ufs2.1 is a good thing also for marketing purposes, and since they do not confirm that, the retail versions might vary.

Again the same memory dilema.....

My Mate 10 has UFS 2.1. I think we don't have to worry much about this. All the Mate 10 should be using UFS 2.1. I've Androbench a few Mate 10 units and all say that it is. I think Huawei Finland couldn't give you an answer because they do not have the information on hand to simply give an obvious one. (Even though they should)

Mine and all the other Mate 10 that I've Androbenched were all retail units.

Mine (Mate 10) is asia retail unit, bought from singapore, and it has UFS2.1

My press unit has UFS2.1 and my press contact says all mate 10 pro's (also consumers) will have UFS2.1

Not sure I can trust AndroBench. Every time I tested my Mate 9 I would always get a different result of varying proportions. Never even close to consistent.

How can I check what type of memory my Mate 10 Pro has? I've tried Androbench, but it does not say what type of memory I have. Also AIDA64 only gives the amount of RAM, but not the type.

There's an ADB command, but you need SU permission. However, mine is a Toshiba 2.1 UFS and is fast as hell.

2 months later... I don't think you have to worry. All these are a bunch of Mate 10 varieties. And Huawei V10. Slightly slower in the sequential write though.

Is it a good time too buy the P10 now

With all the news going around Huawei's false advertisement relating to the storage chip and the ram, is there news about what Huawei will decide to do, or are they still going quiet.
I'm still interested in getting the P10, but not knowing what i'll get. For those who does who have crap version, is there any noticable differences in normal daily use.
I'm open to suggestions, otherwise I have to decide whether to get the S8 or G6, but I prefer the P10 over those two.
Thanks
I think models in Europe should mostly have ufs storage. As for the ram, I've read that the kirin 960 cpu only supports lpddr4 type memory.
At the moment I have a p10, single sim 64gb version and have ufs memory, speeds are just shy of 700mb/s. Before I had an s7 edge.
I can say only this about my p10, it is BY FAR the fastest android phone that I have used. And I have used many. It rivals the iPhone 7, even beating it in some cases.
About the emmc version, I have watched a speed test between a xiaomi mi6 with ufs 2.1 and the xiaomi was faster by about 3 seconds at the end of the app opening test. They opened about 15 apps one after another and measured the total time.
Where they comparing the Xiaomi device to a eMMC device? Otherwise it's not comforting anyone getting a eMMC device
I am from Hong Kong, and we have the dual sim version, although I can check many phones at the shop, but I am not able to do this for the Huawei.
Will there be a really big differences between the memory used.

Yes, they were using a p10 with emmc memory. The speed difference was minor compared to mi6 with ufs 2.1.

I do not think there is much of a difference. Maybe only when copying large files.
Apple has done this with the iPhone 7 also. The baseline iPhone 7 and 7+ with 32gb of internal storage have about three times slower read/write speeds than the ones with 128/256.
Better to wait a month more for newer batches and less rush, so that the device comes with olephobic coating and UFS 2.1. However i don't expect a drop in price although might catch some temporary offers.
Thanks, got one locally and a brief testing, i get UFS 2.0, i'm happy with it, as long as it's not eMMC, even my sony Xperia XP is eMMC, and it's works well for me, although i traded it for the P10.
Is there a problem with WiFi speed on the P10? I saw some reviewers complaining about WiFi performance being way inferior compared to other 2017 and 2016 devices. Like P10 barely reaching 30mbit download speeds on 100 and more Mbit networks.

Is it a 5Ghz or 2.4Ghz network? My current device - OnePlus 3 performs very good on 5Ghz but on 2.4Ghz it only reaches maybe 20mbit. And I use a 150Mbit broadband link at home. My wife's iPhone 6s easily tops 100mbit on the same WiFi.
The issues that some YouTube reviewers reported with the P10 looked like the one I have with my OP3.
I am considering an upgrade to P10 and I really want it to be an upgrade
Ufs 2.0
Not bothered about the silly bollocks thing as this p10 is the best phone iv had, certainly the fastest, coming from owning every HTC flagship since 2011

My first Huawei, and I really like it, choose this over the S8 and G6, it's a shame the pink version isn't available in Hong Kong, we only have the blue, black silver and gold, whiles china also have a pink and green, anyway, I intend to change the metal back, it's readly available in china very cheap, and seeing youtube, it's also very easy to change.
Also I get 42Mbps with 2.4Ghz and over 98Mbps with 5Ghz in wifi.
Not recommended to buy, I think xiaomi 6 more affordable

it's down to personal preferences really, Mi 6 don't have a headphone jack and no micro SD card slot.
I've also owned a few flagships from HTC, Samsung and even iPhone.
Must admit that the P10 still is one of the quickest phones I've used. Battery does well, charging is quick.
Camera is fun to use and crisp. Fingerprint scanner is lightning fast. And I very much like the design of the phone.
Could've gone without EMUI, but given the opportunity to buy another P10 or a different flagship, I'd still opt for the P10.
I have 200/80 connection here in Bangkok. The P10 hits maximum with 5G connection. I find my 3 year old Samsung Galaxy Tab S hits consistently better speeds from further away, when compared to the P10. Hence, I use 2.4G when I am downstairs.

Huawei GPU TURBO Confirmed NOT coming to ANY USA Devices

Looks like the USA is getting screwed by Huawei. Likely due to its treatment by the US government. This pisses me off because I have a USA Mate 10 Pro that rarely gets any updates. How do I rebrand this piece of ****?

If you unlocked the bootloader. You can manually flash the .img via fastboot or twrp. But judging from the way you describe your situation; you havent unlock your' device thus may not be rebrand or mnually update.
I just called huawei and ripped them a new a**hole. I suggest everyone do the same.

They claimed that the "rumors" are not official and the updates will come in batches and although the usa variant has not been officially announced they "are working on it".
I specifically quoted android authority and after checking they said that news is "misleading"

If you did that, you probably have enough money to buy the international version of the phone.
GPU turbo isn't a big deal at all.
You should all have read about the benchmark cheating of Kirin 970 devices and by now you should have read that the Mate 10 Pro is inferior to a Snapdragon 820 in terms of GPU.
Getting ~10% better performance out of a GPU that is worse than the Snapdragon 820 will do nothing.
Just don't buy Huawei devices in the future.

I have noticed a massive improvement playing Pubg mobile. framerates are not necessarily higher but no overheating anymore and no framedrops, its a lot smoother now and unlike before i can play a full 30min match without having 15fps at the end of the game. I agree that huawei is nto a good choice for gaming though.... I feel like the gpu turbo was a necessity rather than "great product support"
Hey everyone,
I just had to do some clean-up on this thread. I understand that there are definitely some feelings on both sides of the argument here, but regardless of where you stand, politics are not allowed on XDA (see XDA Forum Rule 2.4).
We are a forum dedicated to tinkering with our mobile devices. Let's remember that we are a community of people with similar interests and focus on that instead of focusing on all the negative crap going on in the world.

Note 9 vs Huawei Mate 20

You guys seen the latest hands on? The mate 20 is nuts. Love my 9, but that camera!
https://www.digitaltrends.com/mobile/huawei-mate-20-pro-vs-samsung-galaxy-note-9/
If it was available in the US(VZW), I would definitely be getting it. But our govt doesn't like Huawei.
It's nice and all but it's not a Note. Plus at $1200 I would have to pass unless there were some kind of trade incentive. I don't trust Huawei enough to give them my personal info either.
Yea. the whole potential spying on the customers would be a dent. Then again.
https://www.zdnet.com/article/paranoia-will-destroy-you-why-chinese-tech-isnt-spying-on-us/
I'd presume it's unlikely and probably safe.

I was very interested in the Mate 10 a while ago but the one drawback that the Mate 20 series continues with is no support for WiFi calling, which I rely on due to our limited network coverage.

Performance not good as they claim. After some big problems ( or scandals) they got, I think we need to wait to confirm it good or not.
eMMC instead of UFS on P10/P10+, noisy about Kirin 970 but it not good enough + thermal problem, benchmark cheating ...

Totally agree, all the mfgs & service providers, regardless of country of origin, use the same playbook,no need to fear one any more (or less) than another, regarding safeguarding your privacy/info.
also, no unlocking of the bootloader, have a mate 10 pro that i keep on a lower firmware since if i update i get a newer version of xloader so i can't downgrade without bricking the device
I don't trust Huawei. They cheated on benchmarks, they lied about camera possibilities on P20 Pro (slo-mo). Not enough convinced in what they claim.
Gotta wonder how that 4200 man battery will do. Maybe lies as well...
Huawei I would not touch again even if someone offered one to me. Great hardware crap software. The way that they think that they are Apple is just beyond joke. Now what I mean by that is EMUI is just a poor version of iOS and the way they restrict third party launchers from working on their phones is beyond joke. The amount of people moaning about the performance when they install pixel launchers is crazy.
I had that issue and I just hate the way they try to make you use Huawei Home launcher and scare you with safety notifications. So for me to be back on Samsung and having the note 9 which has a headphone Jack memory and no notch I say thank you very much.
No lte band 71, no wifi calling. No us warranty.
They chose the winner out of specsheets only? Wow. What a review.
I had a P20 Pro and was pretty disappointed in the camera. Sure the Night Mode was awesome but that was it. Otherwise for the most part it produced highly unrealistic images with waaay too agressive HDR/tone mapping. It really looked terrible at times. I found myself having to work against the camera on the P20 Pro to get the photos I wanted. I much prefer the photos my Note 9 gives me.
Also the P20 Pro had horrible optimization of software. Very choppy specially in all Google apps that stutters a lot. The software is overall pretty aggressive in its RAM handling and you won't get all notifications no matter what you do. The developers of the VLC app blocked Huawei phones from downloading their app becuase of their background process restrictions.
I do like Huawei and I've had a few of their phones but I do not like the direction they are taking with their cameras specifically.

Mate 20 Pro or P20 Pro?

Hi community,
My current phone is slowly dying, so I have been researching actual 2018 phones. Since I like the idea of using dual-sim-cards (private & business), a lot of phones out there had to go by the board and only a few remained. I have always been a HTC fanboy, but I'm open for new things, so the P20 Pro and the Mate 20 Pro have caught my eye.
After reading through countless comparison reviews and articles, I understood that the Mate 20 Pro was the slightly better of the two and I really was all stoked to buy it when suddenly I stumbled across that display 'Gluegate' problem that has befallen most phones that are currently circulating on the market.
Since I really do not like the idea of paying 1000€ only to get a phone that I can sign up for repair immediately after, I've become hesitant about buying it now. The more I keep reading on here or similar blogs, the longer the list of negative aspects about the Mate 20 Pro seems to get.
I could look at a demo in a local store nearby and while it is really big compared to my actual HTC M9, that's something I could probably get used to. However, I found that notch super annoying. You may be able to disable it in the settings, but that still doesn't give you more space for icons in the tray. It seems as if only 3 or 4 icons fit in the tray above because that stupid notch is physically blocking the space. Will I still receive notifications from apps whose icon won't fit in the tray because it's full due to the notch?
In terms of camera quality: is the Mate 20 Pro significantly better/suprerior to the P20 Pro? I could get the P20 Pro for nearly hafl the price now and at the moment I'm totally not sure if I'm ready to pay 1000 bucks for the Mate 20 Pro with a faulty display, a way too small tray bar and with people complaining about pre-developed UI like EMUI and supposedly mediocre camera quality...
Can anyone relate to this? If you were me and about to get a new phone, would you get the Mate 20 Pro?

M20pro screen fingerprints and 3d consume a lot of power, if you turn off fingerprint recognition, there will be more power. The mate 20 pro plan to uses 5000. Because it can't support 40 watts to change 4200.
I have the p20pro.
Great phone as I'm sure the mate is too. Both crippled by the worst possible development and bootloader lock down I've ever seen.
Anyone who knew about the p20pro shambles who goes ahead and buys a mate pro should expect a locked down system and no development at all.
Bare in mind that the p20pro barely had a functional twrp and little to no sign of pie recovery or root method in sight, meaning stick with Oreo and have root or have pie and nothing, if you have the mate then you are out of luck.
Nor a good time for Android / modding at all..
Avoid both and buy the McLaren 6T.
Had the same dilemma a few weeks back. Mate 20 Pro or P20 Pro to replace my previous Mate 10. Ended up with the Mate 20 Pro and trust me when I tell you that the Mate 20 Pro's Kirin 980 is so much faster than the P20 Pro's Kirin 970 which is the same SOC of the Mate 10. Mate 20 Pro is a true beast and camera is outstanding while battery life is great even better than the Mate 10.
Get a P20P. I owned both, "upgraded" to the Mate when it came out in Singapore. I regret that decision. The Mate is a nice piece of hardware, but I ultimately feel it wasn't worth the price and a downgrade from the P20P.
Why P20P?
Camera. The Mate one is SLOOOOW and often doesn't even take a picture when I press the button - I assume it's stuck in some autofocus or what. Snapshots are a pain in the ass.
Unlock: Both the in-display fingerprint sensor and the face unlock on the Mate are not perfect, which means that you're inevitably have to retry sometimes. That gets old fast. Plus, if you're using apps that can be unlocked with a fingerprint (say, email clients, banking apps) then you're in for a bad time..
Notch: Basically... forget about seeing any notification, ever. You won't. The tiny usable part of the status bar is filled with icons you can't remove.
What does the Mate have to offer? "Newer"? Battery? Gimmicks like 'reverse wireless charging'? It arguably looks nicer. That's .. about it.

Not for me. Came from the Mate 10 then to the Mate 20 Pro and cam is faster to focus and load with the Mate 20 Pro. Mate 10 and P20 Pro uses the same ISP from the same SOC.

Face unlock for me is great and faster than the face unlock feature of the Mate 10 which uses the same tech as the P20 Pro. I can unlock the phone using 3D Face Unlock even at low light something which I can barely do on the Mate 10 at dim lighting conditions.

Kirin 980 on the Mate 20 Pro is no joke coming from the Kirin 970 of the Mate 10. Everything else is faster, smoother and its like you can do any task a lot faster than on any Android smartphone as of this time.

The McLaren 6T, which is the most bizarre marketing push in history? Why would you want to have some sort of tie in with a company who is primarily known for failure over the last few years? But that is irrelevant - at the end of the day, rooting is a niche activity. Sure, some people make use of it, but most of the users really don't care that much.

The design of the phone is superb.
Warp charge is amazing.
I like the orange it's brilliant.
Mclaren make the best cars in the world in my opinion and many others.
It's half the price of a competing phone, ie: S10 / Phone XS
At this point in time it is the best phone there is, for development, for speed, for charging, for design, for many things.
Not to mention 10GB of RAM.
Comparing the Pro or the Mate to any Oneplus phone is futile, owners of either phone are going to give delusional comments about the opposite phone.
Personally as a user of XDA and a long time ROM flasher since the G1 days, i honestly couldn't have a phone without root and without removing the shackles which essentially turns it into a cheap iPhone clone.
That's my opinion, which the OP had asked for.

That's .. about it.

I disagree with all of this. You must have a faulty mate device.
The face unlock and fingerprint unlock on mine work 100% of the time, without fail. You have to enrol them properly and with the fingerprint, press hard on the screen.
As for photos, mine takes the shot immediately with every click, zero shutter lag, every single time UNLESS its night and you have AI on as it likes to sharpen the photo after you take it. Mostly this is just processing. Press the shutter 3 4 5 times and every photo, once processed, is available blur free.
I see notifications, all you have to do is make the battery percentage inside the icon, and turn off the network name. It's not hard to work this stuff out if you know anything about phones.
As for the P20 pro... it's slow, laggy, takes worse photos, screen wakes super slowly in sun due to some auto brightness issue, battery life is sub par, it doesn't fill the screen properly in apps like instagram.. less water resistant. Only thing the P20 pro does better is the speakers. No 4k stabilisation, awful video quality overall. Terrible graphics chip.
Mate 20 Pro all the way. Even with nonsense misinformation spread around.

First, (fan)boy are you triggered much..
Second, my experience stands and foam around your mouth doesn't change that. It's also a subjective thing, so "correcting" my recommendation is silly. The OP wants opinions, mine isn't worse than yours.
Third, I know a thing or two about phones. Nice slight, nice try.
Fourth.. see attachment. There's space for exactly one icon, whether you like it or not, "expert" phone tips not relevant.
I recommend the P20P.
P20 pro takes worse photos my A$$!!
The monochrome sensor still superior when it comes to photos specially in the dark environment and details in general, even the paid YouTube reviewers to braise the wide angel lense can't deny that
as for video recording both are considered the worst with the rest of Kirin powered phones. but the mate 20 pro can take stabilized bad videos in 4k.
Day to day use application both are fast specially the mate 20 with zero to small difference in speed, but games both struggle specially in future fight and PUBG.
P20 pro battery is actually lasting longer than mate 20 pro unless u switch the face recognition and in display fingerprint off, then they are similar so what's the point of them?
No gluegate stupid issue with p20 pro and half the price.
I actually had p20 pro, sold for a note 9 last August got the mate 20 pro as a second phone then back to p20 pro which I consider upgrade from the mate 20
As much as I love this phone, I hate it just as much. Do yourself a favour and get something with a Snapdragon processor and something that can be bootloader unlocked. Pixel or a One Plus. Even consider the Xiaomi if it's price you're after.

Sorry but the Kirin 980 is much faster than Krin 970. I came from Mate 10 to Mate 20 Pro and I can tell the difference.

I highly doubt this. Using the Mate 20 Pro as the same resolution with the P20 Pro's FHD+ will definitely result into better battery life in favor of the Mate 20 Pro.

Fyi, not all units are affected so please do not generalize. Half the price where is that mate? In my area there is a USD 200 price difference and even 2nd hand units of the P20 Pro won't be half the value of the Mate 20 Pro.

Sorry mate but that is a downgrade to the max. Slower processor, lower resolution, slower charging, etc. Don't get me wrong, the P20 Pro is a great device but its about 8 months old in the market already. No need to disrespect and bash Mate 20 Pro users if you don't like it please. Thanks!

Yea I'm not buying that.
The McLaren is a beast of a device. Comparing it to any phone, not just a Huawei.
More to the point.
Why on earth would anyone support that regime??
They have absolutely gone against android in every way, not only that but every single developer will avoid them like the plague.
You want to buy into that?? Be my guest, you'll be one of few.
Enjoy ads, bloat, no ROMs, no mods, no bootloader unlocking, no root, no magisk mods, no AOSP, no kernels.
The pro has some but once pie becomes mainstream, root and twrp are out.

To each his own mate. Fact: Not all smartphone users care about ROMs, mods, root, kernels and unlocked bootloaders.

Totally agree, I came to XDA because most people here did.
But less and less are. Plus the OEMs are making it harder.

My wife and some friends have stock and they get by so they're functional. But there are too many benefits to ignore root
FYI, you can also hide icons on the status bar by using 3rd app such as SystemUItuner. You can make 2 empty slots at least. That's enough for me.
I hate this type of question, 1 or 2? Most of the people asking neither buy the products they ask for others opinion.. Lol

Which phone

Which phone should I get?
Honor play
Honor note 10 or
Mate 10 pro?
Each of them will be 6Gb ram.
Price differs a little. $360; $430; $500., but considering that mate 10 pro is available to my local shop price should be considered less (no shipping fees, no importing fees)
I want the phone to have a large screen and large battery. Camera should be decent and the phone should usable for at last one year
I live in europe so working LTE bands are a must.
I'm strongly thinking about mate 10 pro, but I'm note so sure.
What do you think?
Thank you

I think you already know the size of the screen. Not sure about 6gb of ram. This is research you can do for yourself, to be honest - is the screen/ram big enough or not? I don't understand about being usable for one year - all should last longer than that unless you drop it. Were you planning on dropping it? You've quoted dollars but you say you're in europe.
The honor play in the uk is a lot less than your lowest price. I have one and i'm very happy with it (other that Pie being forever on the horizon, despite weekly click-baity rumours about how it's out now/soon).

All three phones have 6 gb of ram, that is why the price for the honor play is higher (I think).
No, I am not going to drop the phone. I was asking if the phone is going to keep up with technology for a year.
Currency quotation should not be an issue.
I am asking for opinions, which phone should I get.

No, my honor play has 4gb. This is why you have to do your own research. Nowadays something like "honor play" is more a brand than a model, and around the world there are different specs for it, hence the "does this phone have nfc" type questions here which go on forever.
Get the honor play - it's great and you'd need to pay another £100-£200 to get a phone which is as powerful.
