Can we expect Google Camera with HDR+ on our Huawei P10(Hisilicon Kirin 960)?
Any news, do some dev can port?
I see Exyons devices(S7,S8) supporting Google HDR+.

It´s not worth doing this labor intensive work, even if someone does it, it makes no sense technically. Using the Stock Camera would be better, cause Kirin960 has obviously not the same functions as a snapdragon.

Thanks for the answer, but I would not agree with you. Google Camera with HDR+ is does seem to have the best imige quality in low light conditions. The Google HDR+ camera algorithm is awesome. So if someone succeeds in porting will be very nice.

You are rightthe gcam is fancy and good, but there main thing about this different softcams is, that their only tweaking what they get from the hardware (picturesensor and image processor).
The way i see it, the gcam is only good snapdragondevices because it´s optimzed for. There maybe ports to exynosbased samsungs, but from point of view the only advantage is the other userinterface & options. The imagequality maybe better then the stock for certain reasons.
I have testet the port for my S8, but i really can´t see now differnce to the stock cam. Under some conditions the stock is better, in other cases the gcam, but both not giving much.
Only on 835 snapdragons you get this stunning low light performance cause of the hybrid autofocus framework: See here

Surprised no one is talking about Snap camera here. Its a new camera app in CyanogenMod 13 nightlies that is based on the Snapdragon camera app from Qualcomm.
Compared to Google Camera, Snap camera is significantly faster. It does not support RAW capture or any other advanced camera option like shutter speed, ISO levels etc, but it is well worth using just for the speed increase.
I also think that my N5 focuses faster with Snap camera compared to other camera apps that I have tried.
Made a video of the UI in action over here if you guys are interested: https://youtu.be/O3NpF9ZcT1M
On other phones compatible phones like LG G4 etc., the app does support HDR mode and other advanced features like ISO levels, exposure levels etc.
Ive used this app for about a year. The clean UI and the amount of features make it easily one of my favorites. (fyi ive used it on a g3, n6, n6p, opo, edge, edge+, BlackBerry Priv and a moto x 2013 & 2014 and its always worked for me with HDR working best on the Nexus devices)

This link points to Snap camera HDR, which is in my knowledge different from Snapdragon camera. As fa as I know there is no way to install Snapdragon camera on N5 with stock marshmallow. So CM13 and variants after the 1.09 build are the only way to go . However the camera does not support HDR mode yet.
Please correct me if I am wrong.

Are there any apps on the market that can utilise the dual cameras of the P9? In particular the post shot depth of field effect. I know the Google Camera app does something similar, but it's nowhere near as good.
I'm quite to donate to the person who ports the stock camera app! :good:
Huawei uses kirin processors and most of the other camera apps are especially made for snapdragon or mediatek. So its difficult to port such apps to work on armeabi platforms

Please somebody port nubia camera app for our one plus 3t.
Bro, honestly I don't think anyone will port it. It might have some great feature but it will be a real pain. Porting the official oneplus camera to other ROMs is still not 100% complete, so I don't see anyone(or interested) porting it.
I am myself studying kernel and ROM development(actually starting) to build a ROM to my liking.

I didn't knew that it requires so much of energy.. But the problem is camera quality of oneplus 3t is not up to the mark according to me.
I find too much of noise in pics except in bright daytime photos.
Do you also agree with this?

Better to request port whole of Nubia rom.
It had a better image output that way in yureka.
But for that will have to wait for a snap 821 device with Nubia ui

Yes you are right..lets hope 4 the best..
Learn to use manual mode to compensate for poor low light performance.
Also, you could save photos in RAW format and use POST processing to improve low light photos.
As someone else mentioned in another thread, the camera may not be great, but when you offer such a high-end device for half the price of other flagships something has to be sacrificed to justify that cost.
Personally, it's a comprise that I can live with.

Actually its not the app which is difficult to port instead its features. For example, as far I know no one is able to port HDR+ from google pixel. Same goes with Nubia app. It may be ported but some features might not work due to incompatibility.
As for the quality of photos, it sure is bad in low light but in my opinion it is best in this price segment. Also I don't think camera app or as a matter of fact any post processing will make any huge improvement.

I agree with your comprise point but as you said its a personal choice and vary with every individual and for me its camera and screen quality.
After using custom kernel I am now happy with the saturated colors which earlier were too washed out.
But camera still sucks but not too much ..its just that imx 298 sensor with ois can do much better which oneplus is not able to extract from it.

I have used nubia z9 mini ..nubia z11 mini and both were amazing related to camera quality even with imx 234 and imx 298 without ois.
And our onpeplus 3t has got ois as well..still not able to produce what I expected from it.
I was too confused between nubia z11 and oneplus 3t before buying this phone but in end I made my mind for oneplus.
And now I miss nubia image processing..
Let's wait and hope.
Try this initial version of Nubia camera and it still does a pretty job.
Use its manual and fun mode..u will njoy.

Hello @Arnova8G2,
I saw your work with the Google Camera Mod for various phones and I just want to say impressive work! I am using the Huawei P20 Pro and absolutely hates the Front Camera functionality. Tried to download your file to use on my phone but was unable to do so. When I try downloading it is says there as a problem parsing the package. Do you by any chance know if it would work with the P20 Pro? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you very much in advance.
Dear @Arnova8G2 & @miniuser123,
I had S8 and you do fantastic job porting Pixel Xl 2 camera to all SD845 phones. And some other make port for LGV30 dual camera - rear camera and second wide angle camera.
Please make Pixel Xl 2 camera port for Huawei P20 Pro for 40MP, 10MP and camera zoom 3x, 5x.

It makes absolutely no sense to do 40MP. It's the inferior mode, and processing overhead would be insane for HDR, even with full optimisation (which you'll never see on a port). It wouldn't work.
Only 10MP makes sense.
5x is a hybrid zoom. You'd need the Huawei software. Google Camera currently has no such functionality. Not that it supports any optical zoom (3x) by default either.
You can perhaps hope for 10MP with working HDR+ and front camera. Anything else? I'd say it's completely unrealistic / unnecessary.
After the software updates, the only thing I'd really see Google Camera as being useful for is the front camera and / or for AOSP when that becomes stable on the P20 Pro. But by then, a working port of Huawei Camera on the P20/Pro is quite likely - or at least more likely, and certainly more desirable than a Google Camera port.

Yes, I am just hoping for the Front Camera to have the same Portrait Mode as the Google Camera as the Beauty Mode post-processing is through the roof even with it turned to zero. I am just hoping to use the Front Camera I have on the P20 to achieve the same Portrait result as I did from the Pixel 2 XL. Everything else about the P20 camera I can live with. Thank you.

Yes! Finally someone who has the same struggle as I have!
P20 pro is a pretty expensive phone and I am beginning to feel disappointed with the less than stellar quality of its front camera.
I know that its a fixed focus lens on the front but how come Gogle Pixel was able to implement a sharp shooter front camera with a fixed focus? To think that it has 24 Megapixels?!?! Such a scam

I don't think you understand what scam means.
Also, whilst not ideal, I suggest you learn how to work with fixed focus. You will not get bad results with it if you do, now that 'beauty' is in check.

Hi @mudnightoil,
sorry for the rather strong term that I used. But yes, I have been trying to learn some workarounds with a fixed focus front camera. It's just that, it's difficult to adjust because I was just so used to autofocus front cameras like Asus Selfie. I just feel like the 24 megapixel camera of the p20 pro is a wasted potential.
Another argument that I have is with Google Pixel's 8 mp fixed focus lens producing more vivid and sharper selfies than P20 pro's 24 mp.
Both the background and the foreground are sharp. Dynamic range is better! I mean come on! I really hope it could be fixed via software update very soon!

Same issue here ...the rear cameras are great ..but the front camera beautification is just too agressive even when set to zero . A google camera mod with HDR+ in just 10mp for rear camera and portrait enabled on both the front and rear will be really helpful .

That's not a GCam port, that's to install the P20 Pro Camera software on a non-pro P20.
So far as I'm aware you'll need the libs to get it to work properly.
Tbh the pro has a monster camera set up.
The 40mp is more for landscape pics, the 10 for point and shoot.
the selfie cam has been great for me so far.
But then I've only had it since 11am 24th may so I'm sure I'll find some issues.
The rear cameras are great and on average they take better pictures than my Pixel 2. I also end up with pictures that I just otherwise would never have been able to capture with another cameraphone. There are some downsides though where I would love to use a hypothetical GCam port. Outdoor photography is a chore thanks to the auto "greenery" AI thing that cranks the saturation. The 10 MP auto mode also oversharpens like crazy. Pro mode is sometimes useful, but you lose things like HDR or aperture simulation which are lame tradeoffs.
The biggest issue for me though is the front camera, which is completely unusable thanks to the beauty mode that can't actually be fully disabled. I'm using Retrica right now which works pretty well but you lose the nice aperture/bokeh simulation of the P20 camera app. Small price to pay for a human looking face, but anyway that's mainly why I'm hoping for a GCam port.
I am very interested in development. Maybe it's possible.

The 10MP mode is superior in almost any setting. Hence why it's the default mode. That the 40MP mode is even exposed is mainly for marketing reasons.

That's not the case at all from my experience comparing 10 vs 40 vs 3x zoom in various situations.
In low light, 40mp is poor, but in well lit places, 40mp is far more detailed, less over-sharpened, and significantly nicer overall.
It's generally less processed, and HDR etc doesn't seem to be enabled on it, but it's certainly not inferior to 10mp in general, but is occasionally.
If you want to do any post processing, the 40mp is probably better in general... though I guess few would want to do this!

That's an issue with Flickr. Not sure why, but from a phone they dont upload full res I think. Lightroom mobile is used by me for all photos. You should try it, the free version of Lightroom mobile is excellent, one of the best at straightening a shot even if its just 0.1 adjustment.

really bad on Honor Play was working good and only a bit of settings modify was needed! Night Sight was working too but with artefacts on shadows.
Yeah Huawei / Honor now is like Apple, totally closed system ( only way to unlock is to pay a lot of money )
kirin is a custom and closed source, not supporting camera api2 stock that is needed for FULL mode gcam to work, gcam was born for google pixel on qualcomm board. Ports on Exynos and Kirin are only partially working, can't fully benefit of gcam.
For modding better stick with Qualcomm CPU and an unlockable phone with easy ( like xiaomi, oneplus )
That way I am waiting for selling this phone and get xiaomi . never back to huawei

Moto G6 plus... My nephew have one and in some situations camera is better than Mate 20 Lite's one. Its a Qualcomm device so will be able to install gCam for alternative. Its decent phone general.
Other than that Mate 20 Lite is not bad at all. Camera is good especially in pro mode on low levels iso, around 125-250, takes crisp and detailed photos. Most of the time i use spot metering and auto wb. Shutter speed depending. Have good burst mode also. Its a aspherical lens and takes nice pleasant colors. Great resolution, 20mpx are great to crop images. Its not exactly "Point and shoot" type camera if you need such. You must play bit with settings to get maximum of the sensor but to me is good enough. Video is not something that is important to me. Its a 1080p 60/30fps recommend to stay with 30fps bcoz have EIS. Generally it take some time to me, to get accustomed with camera but now i enjoy it! Take time to search and try different devices, read and watch reviews and pick right for you needs to avoid disappointment...
