I recently brought a note 8 seal packed but when I started the phone it started directly without setup and was showing home screen.
I have concerns that it is used by someone or not.
Can anyone confirm if they had the same Issue.
I am from uae brought note 8 64 gb dual sim.

I got the 256Gb dual SIM and that started up straight to the home screen too! I think it's how Nougat works?

I don't know how to check, but I've had 3 Note 8s and they've all started up with the setup procedure. None have gone straight to the home screen.

It's definitely been opened before, and they went through setup and then re-sealed the phone.
Common practice here in Pakistan, probably happens in the UAE as well.
Where did you buy the phone from?
Have to put a local sim card in to unlock region lock.
Sent from my SM-N950U using XDA-Developers Legacy app
Most likely opened by the reseller to insert region SIM and make a 5 minute call to unlock the phone. If you by from Clove in UK, they give you the option to allow them to perform this procedure.
Most likely, the reseller just skipped the Google/Samsung customization just to make the call. Who did you buy it from?
I brought from a local store person in uae..
But I have brought so many phone no one had this thing so is there any where to find our if this used by someone or reseller has just used it..

Does it matter? Just factory reset the phone. Boot into download mode to see what the System shows as. If everything shows as Official, you should be good to go.
Did it have the front and back clear plastic film on the phone?

I got mine from Clove UK. They opened it, made a 5min call to lift the region lock, but they also reset the phone before shipping. Mine booted to the setup. In fact I couldn't 3ven tell they used the phone, not a single smudge on it anywhere. Only indication was the seal was broken & they even did than cleanly.
Was your seal broken? That's not something you can easily fake not being previously broken.

If the phone has root, you can use the Phone INFO ★Samsung★ app to check for the Usage History (Headset Connect Counter, Charger Connect Counter, S-Pen Detach Counter).
Anyway you cal also use this app to check for the device's refurbishment (left-side menu > "Refurbishment Check").

Yes it is.
Glad that you find it useful.
Just because on your initial boot up it goes to the home screen, doesn't mean that it was pre-owned or used. Here in Japan I went to the store (phone carrier) and got a new Samsung Galaxy Note 8 last week , and they asked what language I wanted, and my girlfriend said English. Due to my slow Japanese , I didn't realize that they were going to quickly set it up there. So, while they were putting in the SIM, which is standard practice at the store, they quickly set it to English.
Nothing else was done though, so as soon as I got home, I was able to update all of the apps etc.
(I'm still using the original protective plastic, until I get to one of my workplaces where it's pretty much dust free, before I put my own screen protector on.)
Like someone said here, you can do a factory reset if you really want to go through the setup yourself.
I really love this phone. First new device for me in 5 years! If I'm honest, I can't wait to get a flip case for it. Then it will feel more gripable in the hand. I'm just using the included plastic case for now. I've yet to see a Samsung case yet, but I've only been to 3 stores so far. :good:
I don't have that issue.

Hi, I'm in the US currently with a Samsung Note GT-N7000 that I purchased from Amazon (the phone imei showed that it is from the UK). After about 8 months of use without using custom roms, it seems to have hardbricked through normal usage (At the time of bricking I believe I was deleting some photos in a program called QuickPix when it froze and eventually had to be manually turned off. Then it would struggle booting on the Samsung logo and after a retry, it just would not boot anymore). It is completely unresponsive when you press any of the buttons and won't get recognized when hooked up to the computer. I even tried using new batteries but that did not work. I don't think the Jig will work in my case either.
I called Samsung US and they told me that the phone would have to be covered in the country where the phone was originally manufactured for which is the UK in my case. I was wondering if anyone else have been in my situation where you are in a different country with a phone that needed repairs. Samsung UK requires that you have an address in the UK so it makes it difficult for me to file a claim. Has anyone been able to get Samsung US to take your non-US claim or have found a way to file a claim without a UK address?
Thank you so much.

Excuse me, but doesn't Amazon have the obligation to be the liaison between Samsung and you? I mean, they are no different than if you had bought it from BestBuy. You should be able to contact Amazon, and tell them that your phone broke and you'd like to have it repaired under warranty. I live here in Spain, and I bought something from Amazon Spain but it was imported from the UK. I sent it back and Amazon paid for it to be sent back and everything.
I'd try contacting Amazon, and tell them the same situation. Tell them that you got the phone through them and then it broke, and you went directly to Samsung and they said that they won't honor the warranty as it was imported from Europe. Amazon has an obligation to offer the warranty. Not to mention, Amazon is probably one of the best companies I've ever worked with. Fast responses, fast shipments and awesome service in general.
Give them a try.
Hope I've helped.

I'd need a lot more details, but:
What exact firmware was it on? What build?
As much as I would like for this to be an example of an eMMC brick on stock, the fact that it occurred when deleting files means that unless Samsung has enabled the "discard" mount option for storage in a new build I am unaware of, it's something else like a bad solder joint.

I had the phone up to date through the samsung / settings / update so whatever the last ICS update was unless there has been a new update within the past 5 days. The last major update, I remember it installed some German apps, latest version of Kies, and made the Note a lot smoother. As I mentioned before, the phone did try to reboot to the samsung logo after it froze but it never was able to boot all the way. I should have stopped at that point but I tried to reboot a couple times and that is when it became unresponsive.

I having some issues with the finger print sensor so they said they would exchange it out. I'm worried if I might get a referb unit. Anyway to tell if the new device is a referb or not?

I would say to pay close attention to the metal silver part of the metal frame for any scratches. Also check the battery bay for scratches...

It's easy to tell if the phone is a refurb, all you need to do is download a
free app called "Phone Info" from the play store.
It will tell you if you have a refurb by clicking menu>refurbishment check.
This app will display just about all the information about your phone.
Here is the play store download link:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.vndnguyen.phoneinfo
Check it out!
Good luck!
Did you ask them if you'll be getting a new phone or a refurbished phone?
They don't have refurbished units yet. Small window to exchange for a new one at the moment.
They typically send you everything on new phones (battery, earbuds, back cover) where on refurbs they just send the main phone portion with no accessories. At least this was my experience with the s4.

they don't have any refurbs yet, they get some in after about 2 weeks, Samsung sends them replacement phones, they told me that when I dialed 611, but 3 weeks ago they didn't have any yet, so I went into a corporate store, and with my receipt, and it was within 14 days, I had it for only 4 days, they gave me a new unit, I gave them the box and never used any of the parts, so everything was still new, I have plenty of chargers and usb cables, so I don't touch the new stuff.
they did that with my note 3.. all the units I received, none were refurbished units, they were replacement units, and yes u can check with the phone info app..
We shall see. Mine will be here Monday.

Not always true. I received a brand new replacement unit and it was sent as phone-only.
Like someone else said, it's too early for them to have refurbs yet. Anyone who needs a replacement should hurry and get it now
Not sure how its proof that quantity of charges and headphones inputs means anything. Since I'm sure Samsung can flash the device to show zero when they refurbish them.

Is there anything that i should test with my note 4. So i can see which one not working if so that i can return it or exchange it
Hi there,
Around a month ago, I got a case of a demo unit (never had before), I didn't look at it until a few days ago and work on the phone.
The phone was A SM-N960XU a demo unit shipped back from the US to Vietnam. (For some reason, one of a Verizon staff "play" with the phone and bricked the phone.) Back to the factory. The phone was an auction for staff to win it. I won the case.
I tried to play around with the loop and use "eng efs" (eng efs is a file which factory will be in charge of it. you can easily buy this at your nearest Samsung factory if you have one....) The phone was bricked to an N960U Verizon version... I was able to get it back to work.
The only problem is the CP file that was flash into the phone. I was not able to get it out of the phone The phone can work (for a while) until getting through to the setup stage...
**A picture can describe more than words
(Ok nevermind I can't get a link on here )
If anyone has any idea for the way to get CP file clean out of a phone. Please tell me I just need this last stage to fix the phone.
(Just read some post of XU variant phone getting the thread close Yes I understand that this kind of phone is illegal to own even for a staff of the sim company, even Samsung. From what I see in Vietnam, it doesn't look like that. Demo phone sold just as good as a normal phone, legally in street front. You can also get this "eng efs" file to get MDM out of your phone - the main reason that causes the phone to not factory reset - on street front and marketplace. Even if I want to confirm that I am a staff of Samsung. The thread will still be close. Good luck to anyone out there with a Samsung variant phone).
And also for whoever out there saying that you can't get a demo phone back to normal. You can...

I bought an S10 on amazon and it came with no shrink wrap, just a circle sticker holding the box together. Is this how everyone got their phone or should I be worried that I got a refurb or a used phone? From my previous phone purchases (never bought samsung new before), they all came shrink wrapped. Let me know your experience please so I can proceed with return or not. Thank you

Is there any way to convert my weirdly "single sim" (second sim slot is factory closed on the little sim slot extension) to a dual sim? anything I should flash to get the second slot working? The sticker on the back of the phone has both sim slot IMEI numbers there, the slot is just solid plastic on the removable part... any help would be greatly appreciated! Model number is M2101K7BNY
Certainly sounds like a manufacturing error, with a machine just not stamping out the plastic part properly. The second sim slot should work out of the box saying "unknown" or "not available" (if using in English) in Android phone settings. You could contact Xiaomi to see if they'd send out a functional sim tray, or you could cut a section out yourself, it is very flimsy plastic though.

you'd think that it was a manufacturing error except we got 2x of the same phones and the second IMEI on the box of each phone has a blank sticker pasted over it by the service provider we bought it from as well. (Vodacom) I tried cutting my own but I'm not getting much success in that regard.. I am very confused honestly. Very happy with the phone, was just looking forward to putting both my numbers in the same phone
(IMEI is still shown by the sticker on the back of the phone though since they did not break the factory seals it seems)
Sounds like this 'Vodacom' carrier might have some deal with Xiaomi to limit customers to their network. I don't know which country you're in and I doubt this is the case here but according to Xiaomi there are plenty of clones of their products circulating, or so they claim, so there's also a possibililty it might not be a genuine device.
The note 10s was advertised worldwide as having 2 sim slots so it shouldn't matter where it was purchased, but maybe you signed up to a service in your country that only allows one sim on their network, you'll have to re-read your t+c's you agreed to when you signed up.
I'd be surprised if it was locked down in the hardware though, which regional rom is your phone running?

I'm South African, and it does not seem to be carrier locked, only that the secondary sim slot isn't enabled I guess? I do believe the hardware is there since I do have 2x IMEI numbers on the back of the phone, why would they do that if the hardware wasn't installed? where would the secondary IMEI come from otherwise? Where can I find a rom that might "bypass" this if I might need to flash a (in samsung terms) modem that circumvents this?
I'm loving the phone, but I really needed the dual sim functionality and it was one of the main reasons we took the phone in the first place since everywhere we checked it was advertised as a dual sim, however vodacom does not list anything other than space, ram and camera quality.
I do believe it is a legit xiaomi since I would notice if it was not in terms of GPU and software. everything looks legit and the phone is better than my old Samsung galaxy S9 in terms of graphics (gaming FPS etc.) etc.
Battery is the most amazing I've had, camera is 64mp as advertised, 6gb ram 128gb storage, phone is fast. MIUI 12.5.1. Charges super fast. great charger. I love the "click" when plugging in a charger, it is so satisfying vs how flimsy it felt on my samsung galaxy S9

because shipping to and from south africa is a problem atm most of the vendors on ali express charge over $100 just for shipping now. Where I used to get free shipping. also I did cut the tray open and attempted to insert a simcard with no luck. There is a vodacom app etc installed on the phone so not sure if they locked the slot on a software level. but if I do get my hands on a tray that isn't selfcut I will try it as well, but no luck so far.
I wasn't saying it couldn't be functional. It would cost a network provider money to make those kinds of changes so they probably wouldn't go to such effort, although they clearly spent something to have a different sim tray in your model. Your best bet is to buy a sim card slot tray as heinhuiz suggested above if you can't get your sim lined up in a diy tray to test it. You can find them on ebay/amazon, etc, too, I'd be surprised if you couldn't get hold of one somewhere without paying daft shipping fees to SA.

Thank you! will order one as soon as I can! would you mind sharing your findings with me if possible? I'm self employed in a small town with one stop street total so I gotta gather enough for emergency expenses and month end expenses before I gather spending money and month end is around the corner so I'll probably only buy next month since February was a little short so cutting things a little close. (sorry if I'm over explaining myself)
anyways I'll be taking a look this weekend if I get some time to try some software changing, maybe flashing a different Kernal or downloading a stock rom online and loading it instead of this RSA rom.
btw do apps on Xiaomi usually have adds? I find it a little odd that file manager and the security that pops up after you install something from the play store both have adds imbedded in them is this a world wide thing? I don't mind it the adds are super non intrusive or in my face at all but it is rather weird that stock applications have adds in them so if it means better cheaper phones then by all means. loving the phone for R199 a month and 175 worth of airtime, I'm basically paying for my xbox game pass Ultimate (R150) with the contract so in all fairness the phone is costing me (with 25 rand worth of airtime) like R50 a month?

Meant to say R109 plus R95 shipping. I am also waiting to see if it works.

I checked my Redmi note 8 tray and found it identical to the 10s . I tried 2 sims in the 10s . No luck the phone does not recognize the second sim. it looks like I might have wasted R200 Vodacom stated that they did not advertise as a dual sim tough luck to us was the impression I got.

yeah, I think it is software locked they don't advertise much of anything probably for this very reason. but what fascinates me is the fact that on the back of the phone, that sticker has 2x IMEI codes on them, the one being my simcard one IMEI so the second one should then be sim slot two, even on the box of the phone vodacom / ICASA just put a sticker over the second IMEI, but is on the box if you peel that off
welp gotta wait 168 hours before I can unlock my bootloader >_< but yes I do believe we have a custom version of the stock ROM since no one else has MIUI Global 12.5.1.0 (RKLZAVC)

I did it! I unlocked my bootloader and loaded one of the Global fastboot roms and I have access to sim slot 2! I now have a vodacom and MTN simcard in my phone without any issues!

1. Unlocked my phone bootloader with Miunlock (register an account if they prompt you to)
2. wait the cooldown period if there is one.
3. Download any FASTBOOT rom from the list here, if you click details you can choose between recovery rom or FASTBOOT rom, download the fastboot rom
4. Flash the rom onto phone from PC.
5. enjoy dual sim.
