Nougat USB MTP problems - Nook HD, HD+ Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

7.1.2 lineage (although the following happens from a very long time)
So I plug my nook hd+ in my laptop. I select file transfer (MTP) option. Laptop shows me the storage and the external microSD card. I'm trying to make order in my files in the internal storage using the pc, but when I cut a file and paste it in another directory of the internal storage I hear the windows error sound, and the file doesn't get pasted. And it disappeared.
Then I try to copy a thing to another directory and bam, error sound and nothing done.
I already uninstalled the nook from device manager, fixed nothing. What is this problem and how can I solve it?
Also, I cannot change the scheduler. When I try it freezes the tablet and I have to reboot manually

HELP -- Internal storage disappeared

description: During file transfer from my PC to my Diamond the process was stuck, then sot reset i have looked on my diamond and couldn't find Internal Storage via file explorer.
via memory manager there is a message of " Internal Storage: not installed".
i dont have backup of Internal storage and i don't want to format it. how i can safe my Diamond?
thx
Internal Storage disappears when you connect USB
Hi
When you connect USB, you get two options - Disk Drive and Active Sync. If you connect as Disk Drive, the PC takes over and it cannot be seen inside the explorer of Diamond. Better connect with Active Sync for transferring data.
this works try it. google htc diamond internal storage hot fix.
I also have the problem that the internals storage can not be found anymore. I tried everything including double hard reset,... - internal storage could not be formated because it was not found or "not installed". I can connect my Diamond to the PC via ActiveSync but not as a storage device (harddisc).
Cant`t install the sprint hotfix on my german Diamond either (wrong device message).
There is a chance that your internal storage is infected by some virus. The virus for windows desktop versions might not affect Windows mobile, certain times, it could block you from accessing your internal storage.
I had this issue with my Symbian phone (nokia N91), where i got infected by an autorun.inf file, and symbian was unable to access data from the builtin harddrive.
I had this problem last night. Here's how I fixed it:
Connect the phone via USB, and select Disk Drive.
Go into Windows Explorer and wait for the drive to show up. Don't try opening it!
Just right click the drive and wait... When I did this, this step took 10 minutes!
When the menu finally loads up, click Format.
You should be able to leave the defaults that come up. But here's the settings to the best of my memory.
Format: Fat 32, Allocation: 4032 (or something like that), check Quick Format then click Format. And wait some more...

No card reader? No problem.

These facts may seem obvious, but not only was I unable to locate them when I needed them, I also received a lot of misinformation.
You can write a bootable image to an SD in your Nook via USB. With a stock NC booted up, fully awake and the screen unlocked, just plug in the USB.
The NC will read the boot partition of a bootable SD card (for instance, a CM7 card prepared using verygreen's method). In my case, it would not read a card inserted while the stock OS was running, but if you remove the card, reboot, and insert the card before the stock OS finishes loading (for instance, on the blinding white "Nook Color" splash screen), it will load up the boot partition as if it were SD storage. You can then mount the SD boot partition over USB and drop in new ROMs or update files from your PC.
NC OR SD NOT SHOWING UP IN WINDOWS?
If only the NC shows up and not the SD, eject, disconnect, and try again.
If Windows does not properly install the drivers, go to Device Manager through the Control Panel (or right-click My Computer and go to Properties), find the USB Mass Storage Device marked by a yellow triangle and exclamation point, right click it and "uninstall." Then, in the Actions menu of Device Manager, "Scan for new hardware."
Rinse and repeat both methods as necessary until both the NC and the SD appear as separate USB drives.
I've had tremendous trouble getting Win7 x64 to recognize the NC, especially running the stock OS, but these steps eventually resolve it.

phone shut off when transfering files

I'm trying to transfer some files into my phone external sdcard from pc. Whenever i do that my phone keep shutting off and i'm unable to finish the transfer. Anyone know what the cause behind this? Phone is rooted and using the latest stock froyo
well just found out i can't fully format my sdcard. There is a file in there thats named {12231-1241235-123123}.jpg sorta like a window registry file. Everytime i tried format the card it'll be empty but when i remount it again in the phone. That file and couple other files reappear again. Does that mean my microSD card is corrupted?
Try to format it on a windows XP computer, if you didn't do this before.
i don't think your microSD is corrupted, otherwise you could never have seen that file.

[Q] CM9 wifi fix and reading SD card in general

I hate to post but I have been searching through this forum and the net for a few days and cannot find the answer.
I have a NC that I have been running CM7 on for about 5 months ( thank you to everyone who has worked on these programs ). But I saw that CM9 came out and wanted to play.
I installed CM9 and gapps and my NC is working fine except it has no internet. So I saw that there was a fix to change a file using a text editor and that is where I run into problems.
I am running Windows 7 and when I hook up the SD card all I see are 4 files and I cannot see the other folders etc.. I even installed Ubuntu and that showed the SD card as 3 different devices.
So All I need is to find out what progam I need to read the SD card. So that I can configure my internet correctly and add my books and movies onto the SD card.
Thanks for any help on this.
You should not need any fix to connect to the internet wirelessly from CM9 on your nook. There may have been a solution a long, long, long time ago, but out of the box it should be fine now.
What happens when you connect to Wifi? Click on your wifi network after it shows "Connected" and see if it shows an IP address. If so, post it. It should be something like 192.168.x.x

Are you running CM9 on an SD? And are you taking the SD out and putting it in the PC? That what it sounds like with your description.
If you are, the system is acting properly. On an SD install, the SD is partitioned onto four partitions and when you remove the SD and put it in the PC, only partition one can be seen by the PC. That is the boot partition, which normally has only four files in it.
That being said, you do not edit system files that way. You use a root file manager like Root Explorer to do it on the nook itself. I think that file you were talking about was under /system somewhere. (Wifi adhoc or something?)
But I also agree with the last poster that said wifi should work without having to edit system files.

Yes I am running CM9 on a SD card. So what you are telling me is that with the SD card physically in the nook I should have no problem seeing the folders etc. when ii is hooked to my computer by a USB cable. Thanks.
As far as the internet problem I am still having it. I " forget " all the wireless and then hook up to mine and put in the password and it tries to connect but then comes up with " Authentication problem " and cannot hook up. I am running WPA2 and had no problem connecting in CM7.
This is what I found on the net and the date of the post is 5/11/12
"1.Power off your Nook Color
2.Remove the SD card and put it into your computer
3.Navigate to the partition on SD card that contains the “etc” folder
4.Go into “etc/wifi/”
5.Open “tiwan.ini” using any text editor as administrator
6.Find “WifiAdhoc = 1″ and change it to “WifiAdhoc = 0″
7.Save the file and close it (check to be sure your changes saved)
8.Put the SD card back into your Nook and turn it on
9.You can now connect to WPA and WPA2 secured networks"
This is why I was trying to read the folders on the SD card with it plugged into my computer.
is there sometimes a problem using WPA2?
I am using the " generic sd card v1.3 ICS large img.zip " and the nightly I used is " cm-9-encore 20120708-800 open gl " the gapps I am using is " gapps-ics-20120317-signed.zip"
One thing I did notice is my NC is listed as a " mobile device " when I hook up to the computer and not as another HD.

No, you do not edit that file with your PC. Whoever posted that stuff was all wrong. You cannot 'navigate to a partition' using a PC (maybe you can with Linux, but not Windows.) You edit it with your nook while it is still in the nook using a root file manager like Root Explorer.
And that 'mobile device' you see is the new protocol that cm9 uses called MTP. It is not a drive letter, but you are still seeing your 'sdcard' and 'emmc'.

Files won't copy/copy properly over USB

Hey all. I want to make a backup of my internal SD before doing a full wipe.
However, files don't copy properly, or at all. When I try to copy all of my Internal SD card, it freezes on "Calculating time for transferring files" for a while. Even when it starts transferring files, it just stops after a short while, no error messages, nothing - Just barely any files transferred at all and that's it.
I tried copying folder by folder, maybe there's a problem with a specific file, but it occurs just the same most of the time. I tried to copy a folder that's just 57MB, it only created the folder on the HDD and one subfolder, and that's it.
I'm running ROMAUR V7.0. USB transfer mode is MTP (Internal SD is not recognized when it's MSC).

Nope, that's not the issue. My External SD card is just fine, the problem is with the internal SD, which is to say the internal storage. It's not corrupted or anything, otherwise the phone wouldn't work properly.

well pc companion/ flashtool see if it fix the problem make sure you backup
which folder is it failing on?
No specific pattern, I can't tell...
I tried reflashing 4.2.2 Kernel, I'll test it now if it might have fixed the issue.
EDIT: Nope, problem persists. No idea what's going on. I'll see if I can bypass it by clearing some space on the external SD and use Root Explorer to copy all the contents to it. Maybe from the External SD there won't be any problem.
