I have AT&T 8925, live in United States, Run on a Dutty Rom and pretty much everything else is simple. No serious tweaking or reg hacks.
So Today, I go into work, plug in my PDA, and no sync. It is charging via the USB, but not syncing to Activesync. I need Activesync, it has all my contacts, appointments, etc etc. In the process of trying to troubleshoot this problem I have wiped my phone clean.
I have tried it all;
clearing storage on phone
deleting activesync off PC (4.5) and reinstalling, multiple times
Used Microsfts Troubleshooting guide
I have installed Activesync on three different PC's and all wont recognize the phone, as if its not there, but it does charge. I also have tried 3 different USB cords.
I don't know what to do, I even stumped the HTC troubleshooting tech guy. I also am screwed since if I send this phone back to AT&T under warranty to get a new one they will see the Dutty ROM and that will void my warranty. I would reinstall the original Windows/AT&T shipped Rom, but I cant get the Activesync up or don't know how to get a PC to recognize my PDA.
So.........I beg and plead, lend your advice for as long as this thread goes (hoping its in the right place) I will try your ideas, theories, and what nots.
IT seems like it would just be something so simple......is it? Where is my Data Connection.....
Thank you fellow XDA members for your time and assistance.

Do you get the "connecting" sound on the PC when you plug the device (same one you get when plugging any USB device)? If not I'd go for hardware fault on the phone's USB port... maybe one of the connector's solder points got ripped or whatever. That's if the port isn't fried altogether... Done anything special between the last time it worked and the first one it didn't?
This may be obvious...but did you restart your computer and hard reset your phone, then try? Im using vista and ive had no problems with any roms...so it just maybe a temporary problem.
Also test this while using the back USB ports, the front ports do not connect the same as the back ports do.
When my new Tilt's screen died an untimely death, I spent all day restoring all my goodies to the replacement Tilt. The next day, went to ActiveSync, and NOTHING! Charged, etc, but no connection. I did all the steps you tried and a few more.
Then, after wasting an entire evening, I found the solution!
Go to Connections>USB to PC, and uncheck 'Enable advanced network". Plug it and let 'er sync.

ahaha yea i thought graff had already checked the software so i didnt bother going into that
I suggest u try to search, there is a search option - type there something like "cannot conect to activesync" - there are milions of threads with this problem, unfortunately I dont know if there will be a solution for u. Just try that out and read.
This happened to me and I had to send my phone in to at&t. I know this probably wasn't what you wanted to hear. They sent me another phone and gave me 10 days from the day I received the new phone to send back the old. I also had the same rom as above I couldn't even flash it via sd card, so I sent it as was and haven't heard anything since. This was two months ago. The problem turned out to be with the mini usb port, it was warped like it got to hot or something. Maybe from using in car for gps I don't know. I hope this helps.
answers and bump
As for searching........always someone has to say it, "why dont you try the search option" - my friend, I am a google allstar and beleive in the forum searching till you can no more then post theory. Now saying that, I am willing to bet the answer to my problem is buried within a post in some thread with some fabric of the entire XDA forum. Finding it though can be harder than removing bubblegum from buckwheats hair.
So I have tried a hard reset for the PDA and the restarted my PC, several times.
...no go
I knew something was wrong when I lost the "ding" every time I hooked up the PDA via USB to my computer.
I had tried the unchecking the Enable Advanced Network before but did again and reset the phone with hopes of glory today. No glory.
I feel I have lost the phone and am ready to move on. Its just so friggen hard since it charges. How can it charge, and not stream data! I fried just the right parts of the mini USB? Blasted! So so so so disappointing because I felt I really had it nailed this time with the perfect radio, ROM, Dialer, programs, software, it all.....well maybe not radio, but my receptions suck all the time anyways and I live in Charlotte NC, a major US city with great AT&T coverage.
Now.....I am still open to any ideas and creative thoughts......but how do I get a the original WM6 Shipped ROM back on the phone? If I cant get any PC to recognize my PC via USB? I am calling in the warranty people today and not speaking of my Dutty, but having a new phone shipped. I just hope not to see a nasty bill come one month or two.
Thanks so far, well done XDA forum friends,

.....I am curious for you. Two months seems like your in the clear, but I hope not to jinx you. I have done the whole 10 days thing 6 times so far since the original purchase of my 8525 in August of 2007. Wasn't until the 5th time I complained and they offered me the 8925 as a replacement. The first five were all shipped back on time, with original ROM's and valid device malfunctions. Never have I been billed.....yet........

If the device charge via usb I would suspect its software issues on youre pc. Could be bad version of some of the software aswell, try download again making sure its the latest and so on. Good luck

You are wise my friend. Thank you for the other software, I will try that. Funny thing about the PC, is I have tried three different PC's, all which it used to sync or try to sync with when I would just be charging. I would love to flash via SD card, but first I need the adapter for my computer, or track a friend down with a printer and correct slot. That might be done tonight. I am at work now trying to download the a rapidshare file of a shipped rom, free style, slow style, and prolly not going to work. But hey, its a learning experience.
Either way, my warranty is up in August, so I figure why not get one more nice new fresh 8925 before then. Ordered new one today, comes next week. I will still try and flash back to the shipped rom via SD tonight.
XDA and its members Rock, this is by far the most help I have ever received via my few threads.

Post your results then.
Everybody knows that xda rulez.
Hello,
I have a Sony Vaio VGN-CR240E laptop, and recently learned that my chipset does actually support Hardware assisted virtualization (Intel Centrino Duo T7250). I run a lot of virtual machines, so having this enabled would be great.
However, the problem seems to be that Sony, for some reason, removed that option from the BIOS and officially claims that "it isn't supported" when it in fact is, just not enabled. It's definitely supported, there's just no way to enable it by default. I have come upon a solution online, however, it involves modifying the BIOS itself, which if done incorrectly can ruin any computer, which I cannot afford to do.
Now here's where you come in. If you have performed this patch to this model of laptop, or any Vaio, can you give me any info or advice? I know it's a long shot that anybody here has done this, but I'm kind of desperate and I figure if this place doesn't have advice, then nobody does. This laptop has the latest Sony-made Phoenix BIOS update from my model's web page.
Thank you all in advance,
Dave
Hi please help me , i'm stuck in boot loader mode trying to update my rom to windows 6.1 , i have vista on my computer .
I searched the forum but cant find any useful help.
I know lot many had this problem and have got sorted out , so please help me with clear instructions.
Thanks in advance,
shank
since you are using vista, it is very unlikely, that your device is actually stuck in bootloader mode, it was your pc, causing that error. because the device changes its identity, while upgrading, vista (and windows 7) seem to think, it is necessary to look for new drivers. maybe you saw the driver search in the bottom right corner of the task bar.
so, basicly you have 2 options to get your device back, either you get to a pc with xp and perform the upgrade properly, or you try the vista method.
for the xp way, have a look here:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Blueangel_WM6_WizzardUpgrade1_WM2003SE0
that is the first step in the tutorial on how to upgrade and i bet you didn't do that in your first attempt
for the vista way, refer to this page:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Blueangel_WM6_WizzardUpgrade4_Vista
or if you want it in pictures, this:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Blueangel_WM6_WizzardUpgrade4_Vista_Pic
i personally never got the vista way to work, not in vista home premium 32, nor in ultimate 64, and in windows 7 ultimate 64 it does not work for me neither.
the very best you can do in your situation is, try the vista method, and either it works, than proceed with the wizard i gave you as the xp link, or get to an xp computer and start with the wizard right away.
if your device really is stuck in bootloader (still unlikely), post back, and we try mtty
got the same problem but am working under windows 7 x64 so it willl be a serious issue
neverdmind fixed worked on my laptop with xp
I am still stuck
Can do nothing. Have this message on the screen and even then I try to connect it to my Vista there is no connection.
Is it that ****ty or something can be done
welcome to the forum!
your problem starts with v and ends with a (like so many evil things do): vista. ok, that was off, sorry, let's get to the facts now:
this is probably what you have experienced during the unlucky attempt to upgrade your device:
you start upgrading, everything looks fine, your pc's RUU (the rom upgrade utility, what you used to start the upgrade) is working fine, your device's screen said usb and v2.0X and then "upgrading" but then at some point, your pc said, "wait a minute, this is not the device i am used to, i cannot charge or sync it, and it also does not respond with the usual name!" so, vista is as 'smart' as trying to get a new driver for the device, making the sounds of a usb device unplugging, and a new one plugging in, that's when your connection is lost, and that is bad, because the wizzard told you before, to "never unplug the device, unless the upgrade process is over". you see, what happened there?
vista's ability, to make driver installation easier for the user has become bad for you in this situation, as you were relying on, say, windows xp's stubbornness.
ok, you say, why would he tell me all that? i saw that happening!
yes, but now you know what caused the problem. now we get on to solving it.
there is a nice tutorial in the wiki, where you can find a driver for vista x86 and x64, that will behave like the xp driver used to, it will charge the device, sync it, and still be able to upgrade, you find the wiki entry -=here=-, and -=here=- again with screenshots.
when you arrived at successfully having installed the driver, so making the screen on connection change from serial to usb, without vista searching for new drivers, you arrived at the point, from where on you can continue, or better restart, flashing the rom you originally intended to.
but let me say, after breaking rule 1, when it comes to flashing, may i advice you to read a little more about the general topic in the link -=here=-, because i can guarantee you, that that was not the last mistake you made with the upgrading process, and since you probably don't want to start from scratch again in a few days, you should ask yourself these questions:
have i formatted the extrom?
have i resized the partitions to gain storage space?
do i have a proper RUU?
did i pick the right rom?
what about sim unlock?
what about radio rom update?
do i know how to reset a device with a higher os than wm2003?
if to either of these questions, your answer was not a clear "yes!!", but a "no" or even "what is he talking about?" you should definetely make a little research before starting over, because you are breaking hardware limitations here, doing things, htc originally intended trained service professionals to do, not home users, this is something that could break your device or at least cost you a lot of time to repair, when done wrong, so please read the links i gave you, it will save a lot of your nerves. here you are again, -=the most important link=-
and -=another link with a common misunderstanding cleared up=-
have fun reading, you won't regret it.
Hi Guys, does anybody know somebody in the UK who can JTAG my G1/HTC Dream? I hard-bricked it yesterday trying to install Froyo... And before you dive into trying to decide whether it just needs a wipe, it doesn't.... Its truly dead as a dodo. No key combinations work at boot and it doesn't go into fastboot. Its stuck at the G1 screen.
Have to admit that even though I am an IT professional and I've been working with Linux, Unix, Windows and MacOS-X and advanced networking for 10+ years, this stuff still baffled me. I am by no means a computer numptie. I can only say that some of the instructions are not suitable for first time users, as it requires a lot of background knowledge and makes assumptions which are not always mentioned in the Wikis.
Thanks for the info guys!
Mich
Right, did a bit of digging and found someone who does it here. Its £35 for the boot repair option as they call it. They use the JTAG software and hardware. The site is http://www.thephonelocker.co.uk/. I'll be sending the phone off tomorrow and I'll report back once I get it back. Hopefully it'll be alright!
I'm using 160 GB hard-disk, before 2 days when I was installing window xp on my pc it was shut down then I start my pc and go to set up it show no hard disk. Is it possible to repair hard disk. I'm not in a position to buy a new hard disk. Please help me.
it is possible to repair a hard drive. it could be as simple as the mbr got corrupted.
first see if its seen in the bios. if it is then you have a chance. if not ... check the connections. if all of them are good... then sorry its more then likely the controller board has died.
to repair though.. you want to download the vendor specific diagnostic program. boot to it and run the advanced test. if it finds an issue then it will attempt a repair if possible. if not... it spits a code for warranty.
Yeah I wouldn't go straight to hard disk either.
Crack 'er open and check the cables.
Try a new cable
Try a different power connector if one is available.
Try going into your bios and rescanning the bus.
If all that fails, try the hard drive in another computer (if available).
Then, check newegg for refurbs with similar specs.
