Does anyone know how to get edge lighting working on Amy other messaging app besides the stock Samsung messaging application?
If be most thankful.

The messaging app that you want to work with edge lighting, does it not show up in the list of apps that you want notifications for edge lighting? It's not limited to stock or Samsung apps. Or do you have the app enabled & the edge notification doesn't work for it?

Go to edge light settings. Open allowed apps tab. Find your app there.
Slightly off topic, does edge lighting even work properly with screen off?

Just wanted to mention that I had the same results with the Verizon messaging app. That and I wasn't getting half of the notifications that I should have been getting. I like the app, but ended up going with the samsung message app instead. It works better for notifications and edge lighting.

Ah shucks.. That bites.. Lol.. Well, at least I know it's not anything I'm doing wrong.. I have been using the stock app, but I send a lot of pictures, and the stock one is terrible for sending pictures, at least on mine with its size restraints.. I can only send a single picture at a time..
But yes the stock one works flawlessly in my experience so far (save, sending pictures)... Lol

In the edge settings, look for advance setting. Make the width to wide. On defaultit can narrow that might be the cause of no lighting. You can different colors too.
The edge lightning also work with third party apps (like e.g. whatsapp or telegram) while screen is off. But only when you activate pop-up notifications into that apps. I think these third party apps using a different notification management that don't support the edge lightning trigger

Yes, that makes sense because I did enable pop up notifications.. It may be something in that particular app that doesn't work right with the pop ups.

wish facebook messanger would work with edge lighting.. i see snapchat works fine idk why fb messanger wont i dont like stock messanger tho
At beginning i also was annoyed because it don't work with third party apps.
But with screen on it works pretty good and now these ugly heads up notifications are beautiful small notifications while screen is on.
And while screen off, I would see the edge lightning only when I have the phone in front of me (e.g. on table)
Because it's only lightning a few seconds. That's why we have the led. Much more useful.
And as visual notification I have enabled "flash notification" in:
Settings - accessibility - hearing where it use the camera flash for notifications from all apps. That works great and you also can see it if you have your phone into your pocket.

I was struggling with the edge notification not working. I tried all the solutions in the videos/sites but they didn't work for me. Anyway I found a solution i though I'd share since i haven't seen anyone mention it.
Basically go check your developer options and make sure you haven't disabled animations scale completely. Make it at least 0.5 and edge notifications scale will work.
I always use to disabled animations and this is the first app well sys app that seems to need it enabled to function.
Anyway thought I'd share that little something. Peace [emoji111]️

Hello. If you want edge lighting notifications for all apps, here is app which support it even with custom colors. It works by transforming old style notifications, to new style, so it shows edge lighting even with AOD. Give it a try.

Hello. Yes, it works with screen on and off. It works by grabbing old style notification, parse data end send new style, edge like notification so it uses samsung native notifications. It looks just like someone is calling you.
Still dont work.

Try watching a YouTube video or use Google maps with picture in picture enabled then try to change apps via recents button or tapping a notification. For me on the US unlocked Note 9 whenever I do this it reduces to picture in picture but goes to the home screen instead of switching to whatever app selected from recents or notification. If I turn off PIP in the app settings it behaves normally. And the Note 8 does not do this for me. Anyone else getting this result?

I just tried it with YouTube. It worked just fine for me. I'm on the N960F (Exynos) though. But at least I can confirm it doesn't appear to be ALL Note 9 devices. Perhaps it's a Snapdragon issue, or something that's just impacting U.S. models (for some reason). Or maybe it's just your phone. [emoji53]

Go to 5:10 there is an option where it will only go around the camera cut out.
I don't have a S10 so I can't try it, but it seems like it's working properly in the video.

Did you even watch the video before you made that comment? There's no way to do what the video shows with an out of the box s10 model.
Awesome, finally having a way to know I got a notification without checking the phone all the time and the light will stay until I see it. I will try when I get home, Thank you so much! hopefully it doesn't take too much battery having it just around the camera.
Can you have it so the light only shows around the cutout and not the whole screen? What does that look like?

Yes, watch the video. I show that in there around the 5 min mark I think.
But this comes with a forced custom lockscreen right?

yes i watched the video i just dont know why it looks so wierd
cant you just film the actual phone
atm it looks like something someone made up in photoshop
i see a ring notification but is not clear if its not croped from another video and pasted over or what
show the video with the actual phone not the simulated screen

Agree, wish this functionality was built-in by Samsung, rather than the security liabilities of the 3rd party app permissions.

No, it does not! You maintain the OEM lockscreen. Nothing changes on your phone except you now get a notification light like I showed...either way.

I would be nice if the camera edge lighting just works without having to switch to another "lockscreen". I like the native always on display. If the camera edge lighting just works with that then it would be even better.
Edit: Hmm just saw EVOme's reply above. Going to check that out!
Edit 2: So it looks like it still switched to another screen when camera edge lighting poped up. What I was talking about is just have the lighting show up while keeping it at always on display.
downloaded it to see if worked without AOD on and couldn't get the notifications permissions to stick. I gave up and uninstalled it.
It comes with its own AoD - uninstalled
He wants you to watch ads or buy to save settings - uninstalled x 2

Genuinely cant see why this is any better than edge lighting
Led lights have is a permanent light so you could see you had a notification, and also read for charging and green for fully charged
Why is just pushing edge lighting into the camera cut out being called led notifications? It just seems to me it should be called 'add on to edge lighting '
Unless we get a permanent led light then it's not led notifications as we all know it to be

Call it whatever you want. We currently do not have the option without using a 3rd party app. Edge lighting is mediocre at best IF you can even get it working. Would a Samsung solution be better, absolutely, but it's not there.
So why is the camera cut out any different to the edge lighting, or the notification lighting up?
The camera cut out lighting up then going off is not the same as an led staying on, sorry just don't get it.

Hi all,
I'm starting to give up hope on making the Edge Lighting work as a notification with AOD Always On (and not installing third-party apps).
I just want to go into Samsung's Edge Lighting Menu, select Google's Messages app, or Facebook Messenger, or Instagram, create a color, and have it work when the screen is off and AOD is on. Why is this so difficult?
Am I missing something? Why would Samsung create the Edge Lighting to work ONLY with their Messages app and not a single other app on the Play Store?
Does anyone know of a decent fix? I tried the Glimpse trick, but it only Edge Lights up one color (whatever is chosen for Glimpse), and the little popup at the top of the AOD is a Glimpse Icon, not the real notification (ex. "App Icon: Sender: Message Content"). I think this would work great, and very simply, as it's essentially just forcing a screen wake for selected apps, which is what Edge needs to work, apparently, but it's own popup bubble and Edge color is useless right now.
And I've tried the "Edge Lighting Fix For All Apps" App, but it's still pretty convoluted for setup and actually spells out each app in the notification popup (ex. "Instagram: Sender: Message Content") rather than the IG Icon and then the content. It's the best we've got right now, but it's still sad Samsung can't make this work by now (how many phones with edge screens have there been now?)
Anyone have other workarounds for this? Thanks in advance, it's driving me nuts.:silly:
I know you don't want to use a 3rd party app, but the aodNotify app will do just what you're looking for and it is developed from a user right here on XDA. It's got a low profile so battery life isn't affected much at all. You can get it on the play store. I highly recommend it as it doesn't look like Samsung is gonna do anything.

I've tried that, but it's using a knockoff version of edge light that looks like junk, to be blunt. Sammy's is smoother and I want that to be the Edge Light in use.
Also, no customizing app colors.
I use it with the Edge lighting plus app, it works well for me. Good luck on your quest!
not every app works with edge notif's, matter of fact, it seems that very few do. go to the galaxy store and download "good lock", it allows you to configure the edge notif's and its directly from samsung. Not third party. It also allows you to customize the s**t out of the statusbar, bottom icons etc etc. It gives root access to mods that no other app has access to
Apparently, my Edge Lighting on my S10 works for 2 of the 3 apps I selected: Whatsapp, Samsung Messages work fine, Samsung Email (v6.1.12) does not show Edge Lighting on my S10. I enables all notifications for Samsung Email, but not luck. Pretty annoying. Anyone experiencing this too?
Hello, I was using the holey light app on my S10.
I understand that holey light no longer works on Android 11.
I just got an S21 Ultra.
Which app (free or paid) can do the same?
I want a permanent black screen (even on a new notification, no AOD, no clock) with only the edge of the camera illuminated.
If possible the application using as little battery as possible.
Thank you all.

I don't want the aod to show up when a notification comes in, or the aod to be a black screen (I believe that was the trick with holey light).
Are you sure that aodnotify can display a totally black screen (no aod no clock) just the light notification and that it only disappears if I erase it or read it
