Hi
Often on my galaxy A5 2016 rooted I see that a task is active but it doesn't really active the function on my phone...
For example: I've a task to turn wifi on when I'm at home (based on location). Often the task is active (is green on tasker) but wifi isn't turned really on! Why this??

On my s8 I've had to turn on reliable alarms for when screen is of as I noticed that some profiles like turning Bluetooth on weren't working when the screen was off. Maybe that could help turning this on in the settings?

Go to preferences > monitor > Use reliable alarms. I have mine set for screen off
Location is not a reliable trigger (never was for me).
Try using variables. These are better.
For example.
I'm using 2 variables to CONFIRM I'm at home and trigger my home profile.
First... I use Cell near to verify the proximity and enable my WiFi. So my variable is set to "1".
Then... After my phone connects to my network I set another variable to "1".
When both variables are equal to "1" my home profile kicks in.
This way I do not rely on Location (and my power consumption is lower).

So the way tasker works is when a profile activates, the entry task runs, then when the profile deactivates the exit task runs.
If something interferes with the entry task, or if you have profiles that overlap (changing the same settings for instance) the profile will be active, but the desired actions may not be able to run.
However, when it comes to wifi on/off actions, you have to do a few things to ensure the actions can run.
1. Make sure you give yourself enough time to enable wifi before continuing.
Eg: 1. Turn on wifi
2. If connected to my home ssid do the following
This will never work because tasker enables the wifi and immediately goes to the next action, but you need at least 5 seconds (really 15) to connect, so it will never be connected when if statement is checked
2. Or say you want to disable wifi every time The wifi is disconnected from any ssid and whenever you're in range of your homer ssid another profile turns on wifi.
The following WILL NEVER WORK but will take a long time to realize the simplicity of why if not careful
If wifi=on and wifi is not connected
Disable wifi and do these things
The reason is the home profile will always enable wifi and for 15 seconds the disable WiFi profile will trigger because the wifi is on but not connected...so it'll disable WiFi.. which will... you get the idea.
P.s. if the profile is active then reliable alarms has nothing to do with why the actions didn't run. Tasker correctly activated the profile... something interfered elsewhere

is there a way if any program needs connection the wifi to turn on and after exit of the program the wifi to turn off (not waiting 2-3-4min if there is no usage to turn off then)?
I have turned off the wifi for the battery life reasons, so when I need it any time I have to go into comm.manager and so on....
I'm actually using phoneweaver (not free), you can set profiles to switch on/off wifi at specific times. I can turn wifi on, but for some reason can't turn it off automatically, guess I'm a bit dumb to set it correctly, but it works for me.
there's another software called wifilocations (free), it seems to turn on/off wifi based on cell id's, haven't tried it but might work for you
I personally have set a hardware button to act as Wifi on/off (with AEBPlus) and just toggle it with a double press when I need it and when I'm done.
There is a wifi button on the keyboard (right arrow button)
True, I usually forget about that one. But then, I don't want to open the phone to turn Wifi on/off.
Prepare for something magical...
Ok so this isn't magical, in fact, it's just another .cab that you can remapp a button to, that's what I have done and I just toggle wifi on and off using it. Here is the .cab.
Somewhat related but does anyone know if it's possible to turn the phone off but leave wi-fi on ? If I'm at home, I want to have Skype running and receive calls like general mobile calls. Would also like to be available with Messenger too
C
Download KaiserTweak, it has an option to keep wifi on during standby.
Perfect thanks however .......
Anyone know how I can run Skype and/or WLM in background ? They seem to shut when I click X on them
C
Check you don't have a 3rd party program or HTC task manager set to "close" instead of "minimize" when tapping X.
I have been looking for internet all these days, everywhere to autosync my device when device is sleeping and wifi is off but couldnt find any working solution as yet.
Tasker should turn on wifi, auto sync then turn auto sync off and wifi. I tried all that I could, but not working.
Anyone can help me with this over here ?
I do have a working autosync profile but for me in order to get it to work, I needed synker and secure settings, because Taskers WiFi action does not always work. If you would like me to share it with you, let me know.
It also takes other things into account as well.
I do have secure settings already. Do share how you do it given your device is sleeping and even WiFi is turned off
OK you can download my profile here, since it would be better, rather than explaining it.
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B8M8tLEXhDNZQU9XMkV2Qm1RREk/view?usp=drivesdk
I need synker with this ?
Thats correct. But you can try taskers sync option.
Hi, I tried this profile, unfortunately its turning on my data when I am home and Wifi is available. Though I am not sure if its turning on my Wifi while its turned off, I would want to ensure my data stays off. What are the changes I need to make ?
If you wish to remove the mobile data aspect of it altogether you will need to delete, all actions from 9 to 15, then add stop and add end if at then end of the task.
Also it does check to see if wifi is off first and if it is, it will switch it on.
My WiFi is on, but I ensure when screen is off, Wifi stays disabled. And for some reason its not turning back the WiFi when screen is Off. Dont know why
Unfortunately I am in the same boat at the moment, and I have not found anything to resolve this.
I also started my own thread some time ago about it, but I haven't had anyone give me an answer to solve it nor suggest what could cause it.
@ProudRed
UPDATE: I think I might know what the problem is, I have added wake device command at the beginning of my task, via plugin called secure settings > actions > wake device. I will find out tomorrow if this actually works.
I can confirm that adding the plugin > secure settings > actions > Wake device, solves the problem for me. Apparently you shouldn't need this if you adhere to this page http://tasker.dinglisch.net/userguide/en/androidpowermanagement.html
But for some reason it still does not work for me even if I whitelist tasker and it's plugins from 3rd party battery saving apps like amplify or powernap.
The issue I am having is with connecting the wifi, its getting connected but gets disconnected after 5-10 seconds. I have even tried ensuring that screen keeps on for 2 minutes, even after that Wifi is getting disconnected. Can I have an working profile from you without the mobile data part ? May be I am doing something wrong.
Hi All,
I'm new to Tasker but reading around various forums, it seems it will do what I need, just not sure HOW and I'm hoping someone here can help?!
I have an Android car radio and a Nexus 6P. I want to be able to setup a task/profile so that when my phone pairs to the headunit via bluetooth at power on, it turns the phone WiFi off and the WiFi hotspot on. Then when the car is turned off and bluetooth disconnects, it will turn off my phone hotspot and turn my phone WiFi back on.
I'm sure it's fairly simple for someone who knows what they are doing, any assistance would be much appreciated!
I have this set up with a profile like so:
State=bluetooth connected, 'CAR KIT'
--->task 'CarTether' (WiFi Tether=Set On)
<---exit task 'CarTetherExit' (WiFi Set On)
I have another profile that turns off bluetooth after 1 minute if it's not connected, thats what triggers the exit task (since it's no longer connected to 'CAR KIT' when I turn off the car). AFAIK when you turn hotspot on your phone will turn off wifi on its own, but you need to turn it back on (hence the exit task), and when wifi turns back on the hotspot should turn off.

Thanks for the advice, I've managed to setup a tasker profile that turns on wifi hotspot when Bluetooth connects and turns on wifi when it disconnects. The task works well, except that when the hotspot turns on, the radio won't connect, it gets stuck on obtaining IP address and Los to connecting, obtaining IP address but never connects. If I manually turn hotspot off and on again with the quick menu toggle it connects straight away. Any thoughts?

Hrmm...I've not come across that one. If I had to guess, maybe one is trying to do something before the other is totally ready? The only thing I can think to try is experiment with a 1 or 2 second delay in different places, like a 'wait 1 sec' in between the bluetooth connecting and the hotspot turning on

That sounds like a good plan, I'm not sure how to add in a delay though? If I edit the task of turning on the hotspot I get the option of adding an if variable, but not sure how to put in a delay...

Action > Task > Wait
What Vagelis said^
Once the 'wait' is in your task you can 'grab' it by the right edge of the screen and drag it up or down, wherever you need it.
i looks like tasker does something wierd in Android 10, this worked always in Android 8 or 9 but now it doesnt.
when i get connected with my radio tasker turns on Tether but never turns is off when i disconnect bluetooth from my car.

Is the exit task actually running? What does the run log show?
This could be a device issue on A10 as well. If tasker is getting killed, it can't run. Take a look at https://dontkillmyapp.com/ for what ever device you have.
It also helps to post the description of your profile when asking for help. There is a sticky post in this forum with instructions.
im usuing tasker 5.0b5, and am wondering if anyone could help with a profile that will turn off wifi completely when there isnt any wifi around or when wifil has been disconnected. and also hoping a task with this profile to turn wifi back on when wifi is visible again. i seen a few tutorials and youtube vids on how to do this, but they were in reference to older tasker versions. can anyone help? thanks
I use these 3 profiles to basically do what your asking. You will have to change the profile with cell near to what ever cell towers are near you.

Do I link these profiles or run them all seperate?
This is what I have set up from the xml you sent me
Or like this?
Do these profiles supposed to turn WiFi off? As in, turning it off in settings too? I tried these and it don't work that way. I did change cell near as you suggested.

Yes use all 3 at same time, make sure your variables are getting set. The one profile sets wifilocation variable when your near your cell towers, then the second one will see that wifilocation is set and activate causing it to turn on wifi and wait for 20 sec and if its not connected will turn wifi off. you may need a profile that turns wifi off when screen is off or go into wifi settings on phone and set it to not stay on when screen is off. Also you may need to turn on cell workaround and/or use new cell api under taskers preference depending on the model of your phone. You may not need the If WiFi connected profile, I think I used that for another project.

Honestly this is a complicated way of doing something very simple.
The most accurate and low battery way to accomplish this is to have 1 profile with a state context of "cell near" and set it to scan while you walk around your house for 5 min and then set it down and let it scan for another 10 min. (This ensues all available cell towers in your area are accounted for) and make tier entry task enable wifi. So when you're close to home, tasker will enable WiFi and Android will handle reconnecting.
In the exit task,Turn wifi off so whenever you leave your area WiFi will be deactivated and you are using nearly 0% battery to achieve it

Yeah. I have already used that task before. The cell near profile. I just want a profile that turns WiFi off completely when I'm not connected to any WiFi.

Ok then the best thing to do is create a profile event context of WiFi disconnected and make the entry task merely set a variable %WIFITIMER to %TIMES+120
then create another profile with a time context and set if to activate on %WIFITIMER (which would be set for 120 seconds after the WiFi disconnected and make the entry task WiFi disable
Then create one more profile with an event context of WIFI CONNECTED and set the entry task to clear the Wi-Fi timer. This will ensure that if the Wi-Fi reconnects, the Wi-Fi disable profile won't be able to activate because the time will never be Null
The logic is: if the Wi-Fitimer is set then when the current time matches it, disable the Wi-Fi, but if it reconnects, the timer is disabled.
Edit
The benefits of these profiles is more than merely an elegant approach, but also the least battery impacting method to have Tasker wait until a certain time to do something. Using wait actions inside tasks might be one of the worst things for battery life
My request is very simple:
I use WiFi tithering a lot while travelling. When I enter any known WiFi zone, I wish to turn tithering off and WiFi on, using Tasker.
I have created two profiles for this purpose:
1. Activates tithering when I leave a WiFi zone and loose WiFi connection. This profile works perfectly!
2. Disable tithering and turn WiFi on when I enter a known WiFi zone. This profile never triggers, but the associated tasks run do exactly what I want them to do when I run them manually.
The two actions linked to profile #2 are:
WiFi Tither Set Off
WiFi Set On
And, as I said - they perform exactly what they should - if run manually.
The profile that I use to trigger, is:
State Net, WiFi Near
I have not set any paramters such as SSID, MAC etc. Everything is left blank.
May assumption was that it would trigger on any WiFi zone that it could successfully recognise (log on to). But that does not seem to be the case. It never triggers.
But the profile does become active (turn green) every time I enter a known WiFi Zone. I believed this was a sign that it would trigger.
Any idea how to accomplish a working trigger the way I want?

If I remember correctly Wifi near requires "Wifi Scanning" to be on, which is located under settings > security & location > location > advanced > scanning.
