Dual Sim ?

Since Samsung is coming out with a dual sim version, It would stand to reason that the internal workings of All the Note 5's have the capacity to accept 2 sims.
My Guess is there is a sub card that allows this modification to the basic note 5. That said, I wonder when we will see a breakdown of the phone to actually see if that is the case ......... would be interesting

Will the korean Note 9 (N960N) work in Germany?

Hi guys,
i want to order in a few days the blue note 9 from wondamobile and was asking myself, if there may be any issues using a south korean note 9 in germany.
I'll post other questions related to the note 9 when i have time but first of all i want to swap from a crappy SM-T555 to the N960N because of the high storage and the higher amount of RAM. the tablet is a substitute to my broken Note 4.
Like i asked in the title, will the korean note 9 work in germany?
another few informations for you:
- i'm a power user, so i do a lot with the note 9, almost replacing a computer with it
- it will be rooted, stock rom with kernel patch(es) like on the note 4
- i want to use it with dex [i used the note 4 with a docking station and SEAndroid with permissive mode + a 8 TB HDD (1 TB ext4 and ~6,3 TB NTFS)]
- connect other peripherals like bluetooth speaker, cable mouse and keyboard
- using LAN connection (if possible with stock firmware)

I have Note 7 Fan Edition used strictly for Korean market, bought directly from South Korea, and I was successfully using it on AT&T in USA, and now I am using it on Vodafone network in Czech republic without any problems. I would say that you will have no problems using Note 9 in Europe.

You will have no problems using the N960N in Germany. As it is a GSM device, however you may have issues using it in the US as the majority of US Cell Providers operate on the CDMA band.

Why don't you give the CDMA in the US B.S. a rest,YOU ARE WRONG on that point.
Yes, CDMA exists in the US,but,the overwhelming majority of traffic is via GSM/LTE,.....................CDMA is well on its way out.
The biggest US CMDA provider is VZW & 92% of their traffic/usage is LTE NOT CDMA.....................
If you lived &/or worked in the US ,you'd realize that.

as far i know the F variants are either 128 gb single sim or 512 gb dual sim. i want a 512 gb single sim and thats why i want the N960N.

Gotta ask:
Why not just get the F version in Dual SIM & 512GB?
It's not as if you have to use the 2nd slot.
At 1st glance on eBay (US), there's not many of what you're looking for & they (Single SIM) are actually more expensive than the Dual SIM models.
Just in case you weren't aware, the 2nd SIM Slot is hybrid, it can be used as an SD Card slot. That's either/or, the 2nd slot only holds one or the other at a time.

Other than what's already been discussed (single/dual SIM), is there a particular reason for getting the Korean version?
(BTW, single SIM models have an SD Card slot, it's just not hybrid).
The F, FD (F D/S), & N models all have the Exynos processor. LTE Band support for you should be equal.
My apologies if I'm coming across as nit-picking, but, I'm sure you can find a good price on an F or FD (F D/S, same as FD, just stated differently on some listings) that has firmware specific to your area.
Reason I suggest that is Samsung Pay. In a good number of instances, some region specific models don't play nice in that regard, or, requires a bank card from the region to be registered to Samsung Pay.
IE:Korean Note 9 needs a Korean bank card attached to it to work outside of Korea, etc......
If you plan on root/ROMs, disregard the Samsung Pay statements, it & KNOX are permanently broke once rooted, even if you return to a stock/unrooted state...

i went for the korean note 9 because of the price and because at that point i didn't knew that there are f variants with 512 gb out there. at the beginning i had to decide between the note 8 and 9 and i haven't found any 256 gb variants for the note 8 except the korean one. but i saw that the note 9 went out and then i decided for this, assuming that there is only a korean note 9 with 512 gb out. apparently i was wrong at that time but i didn't knew better.
in the end i will stick to the korean note 9 because of the price because i can save up to 400 € - 600 €. i checked them and compared between samsung price (~ 1250 €, 512 gb N960F duos variant), reseller price (~ 980 €, 512 gb N960F duos variant too) and the korean price (699 GBP, ~ 715 € + 15 € shipping). it doesn't matter if it's duos or not.
i think that i will root the smartphone. i've never used samsung pay and in germany it's not out yet so losing s pay and knox due to a burned e-fuse is not a problem for me. i prefer to pay with cash.
what i heard about s pay is that your bank has to be a partner with samsung to let it work. so even if you have a foreign bank, you still can use their credit card but you get the ad's from the specific region (in this case korean ads).
besides these two reasons secure folder won't work but i'm not using it too.
what about carrier aggregation? will it work properly if i use a korean note in germany? as far as i know no one has a fix for it atm.

Knox triggers only if custom recovery/rom is flashed. It will not trigger if you took other region firmware/ROM and flash it via ODIN as long as it's the samsung original one downloaded from their servers. Tested on my S7e that was MTL (Bulgaria) and I changed it to BTU, before didn't even had samsung pay and it showed on the BTU.

I'm aware of what triggers Knox,I stated as much.
I just wasn't sure if you can flash F firmware onto an N (Korea) model,hence my recommendation to getting an F model,especially if you live & work in an area where F models are typically sold.
Why bother if you don't have to,that's what I'm getting at. ($$$ savings seems to be the primary factor)

i'm not buying the n960n because i agree with koliosis' concern regarding flashing a F rom on a N device. i think it will be a big hassle or even impossible to do so.
i prefer a device that is usable over saving money and then get stuck with it not being usable at all.
so now i'm looking forward to the 512 gb sd card offer from samsung (here). the device needs to match the model code as well as the EAN code (source) but i'm not sure if i have to buy it at a specific (online) dealer or if i can obtain it at any dealer in germany and only need to ensure that the device has the proper codes on it.
though it's annyoing that the offer goes from 6. november till 20. november because time is really short.

after a call at samsung they told me that i can go for every (online) dealer as long as the model code and EAN matches. so now im going for one of the bold ones in the code block . i wrote the dealer i want to purchase the note9 from and sent an email, hoping that they can help me with these numbers.

i'd like to know if a transparent case with silicone is better than a transparent one with rubber on the phones' edges and glass on its back.

Australian Telco note 9 dual SIM functionality

Hi all,
I've signed up for a note 9 plan since my new job allows allowance for work mobile. However the sim tray is not hybrid at all(the second sim slot can only for micro sd card) . I've managed to cut the SIM so that it fits into the second slot, however unable to get this to work.
The SIM works fine if it's plugged into sim 1 slot. Has anyone got any solutions to this? Any input would be appreciated

Sounds like you device is of the single-SIM variety.
Even if you bought a dual-SIM Tray to use,it will be of no benefit,you have a single-SIM phone.
Flashing firmware that works on known dual SIM phones will not do it either,many have tried various things,the functionality simply isn't there (presumably a hardware issue,it's simply not there).
FWIW,I tried a dual-SIM Tray on my US (T-Mobile Note 9),& nada. I knew what to expect going in,but,had to quash the slight bit of false hope.
The Exynos single SIM Note 9's are the same.

That's quite disappointing, it was one of the reasons why I got Samsung phone after all..
All of Samsung's Webpage indicates that all note 9s are capable of dual SIM functionality. I guess I should have double checked with Telco to see if they have locked the Dual SIM functionality..

I've never seen anything stating all Note 9's are capable of Dual-SIM functionality, but, I'm in the US, where Dual-SIM phones are the exception vs the single SIM variety.
The only phone that I'm aware of that has Dual-SIM capabilities, but, ships with both Single-Sim and Dual-SIM firmwares is the OnePlus 6T.
You could try a Dual-SIM tray & flashing a SIM-Free firmware that's known to work on Dual-SIM phones to find out with certainty.
The trays are cheap enough, I got mine from eBay for less than $10 USD.
I hope I'm proven wrong, but honesty, I'd keep my expectations low.

I just returned empty handed from the Samsung store at the mall. I wanted to pick up the Samsung s20 FE dual sim. I need dual sim. I was told by the sales person that they only carry the single sim in the store. I asked him if he could pop the sim tray from a sample s20 FE and showed me that it only tales a sim and a SD card. Then he said that you can only get dual sim when ordering online.
I just when online and don't see a dual sim option.
So is it true that Samsung makes single sim models and a dual sim model?

Yes, it's true. When you say you went online and didn't see a dual-SIM option, do you mean you went to Samsung USA (as it appears you're located in the States)? Samsung USA (or anywhere in North America) doesn't offer a dual-SIM model. What the sales rep meant was you have to go online to buy an international, dual-SIM variant of the S20 FE, of which there are several.

Thanks for the reply looks like I will have to start looking at Oneplus again because I already have a dual sim setup on my oneplus 6t works excellent but wanted something with better camera and able to record calls.
I already tried the Pixel 5 or about 2 weeks but had to return due to all the short coming on dual sim. I was not able to set a separate ring tone for each sim and there is not way to setup call record.
So I'll keep looking for solutions.

I actually quite like Samsung's dual-SIM phones - partly because I am used to Samsung's ecosystem, and partly because of their dual-SIM features. I currently have a dual-SIM S9+, and I plan to get a dual-SIM S20 FE myself. I don't think any of them have native call recording though - but of course there are apps for that.

It is supposed to be an Exynos and they usually are Dual sim. However, I have encountered Korean exynos phones with only one sim card. Thus, you need to provide more information so we can give you a more definitive answer...

The phone did come originally with one SIM card and 1 esim I put in a dual sim tray can I get it to read 2 physical sim cards any advice whould be appreciated thank you

I doubt it bud... Even if the hardware would support it by having the sim tray capability, the software would have to be specifically adjusted for the situation. And seeing how small the alternative development is for the s21 Ultra, I doubt it will get to the point of significant progress..
Some time ago I had gotten a Note 9 from a friend, and since I had an S9+, I thought the note 9 would be a nice upgrade. Only to realize that since it is a Korean Note 9, it only supported 1 SIM. I seeked the internet quite a bit and found nothing relevant. I also asked around the forums but to no avail. Gave the Note to the wife, it replaced her 1 sim S7, so everyone is happy hahaha
If you do find a solution eventually, do remember to write it here, it may surely help others with the same issue as you.

The first step is to check if physically there are 2 sets of contractors to read 2 sim cards but that means to open the phone. Software shouldn't be an issue it handles 2 physical sim in other variants

I bought a dual-sim tray for my S21 Ultra US version - I can confirm that at least the tray fits It wouldn't read my SafariCom sim though :-/

Not sure what model the Australian S21 are but if it ends with the letter B(G998B) then you can try switching the CSC to XTC and try again.
While there's only 1 sim card originally it should still have 2 IMEI numbers because of the e-SIM so logically switching CSCs should work.

SM-G998B is a Single Physical SIM variant with e-Sim. The SM-G998B/DS has Dual Physical SIM's so based on what you've shared the answer is no.

Does the Australian version have any differences?

I believe only the Chinese variant supports two physical dual sims.

The Indian version supports dual physical SIMs too. I'm using them on mine.

I bought mine in Spain and is a SM-G998B/DS and I am using 2 physical Sim cards, both working.

Indeed. For some reason I thought he wanted a physical dual sim snapdragon variant.
