So the oneplus 5t is here and it's great for the price point but a punch in the gut for users who bought the original one for the same price . But I get why did that so it's fine.Anyhow the 5t is more 2017ized now so how many of you would consider changing to that going from your oneplus 5 which you bought only a couple of months ago?Is a bigger screen (same res and stuff tho) and face ID(fastest one in the market rn) enough to turn to a new phone ? In any case what are the chances of something like face Id being ported to our oneplus 5 and it being functional ?

Maybe we all just wait what oneplus will do as face recognition is merely a software gimmick as there are no hardware needed.
Camera and screen is hardware related but for the camera software changes can also be implemented for the 5 I hope.
Let's hope gets 5 and 5t a cross development like the 3 and 3t.
I'm going to get the 5T if my 5 sells (currently have it up for sale). I'm only willing to pay the difference after selling my 5.
Face unlock does seem to be very fast but it doesn't use all the other sensors that are on the iPhone X for example, which could in turn make it less secure/accurate - time will tell though!
As for it being ported, not too sure but there is an Xposed module available (Instant Face Unlock) that works with Google's smart lock I believe, so maybe it could be possible - a better answer can probably be given from a dev
Guys, I think we should open a new thread for OnePlus 6, anyhow it's just a couple of month away.....why bother with the 5T.

Face Unlock is already implemented in OnePlus5. So nothing new here. Unfortunately it's all marketing.
Most of Android phones have face unlock included because it's an Android feature.

It's actually separate from the default face unlock and apparently it's way faster.
I'll stick to my op5, I hate the fingerprint in the back, will buy a new one once they know how to implement it under the screen.
will the 5t even have hardware buttons like the 5? i totally need those, hate this on screen stuff

oneplus face unlock just uses camera to capture 2d image of your face from many angles. very insecure. can be easily tricked, maybe even with a photograph.
iphone x face unlock literally sprays your face with 30,000 lasers and measures. much more secure and probably induces cancer much more quickly.

Apple responded "The iPhoneX didn't give you face cancer, you were looking at it wrong."
When your phone is no longer up-to-date, custom roms can implement facial unlock, or will this feature disappear?
It seems that Face Unlock wont be coming on OnePlus 5T,
This is what GeekyRangit says, he asked it to Carl Pei and he responded him back saying there are some Hardware limitations -_-

BS there is no other dedicated hardware they use the exact same camera. You really think a oneplus employee even if it is Carl would promise something like facial recognition for the oneplus 5 without asking it's company. What is more convenient than just to say no it is a hardware limitation. Think about it what would be needed to make facial recognition work a camera even more cameras to make it 3d and some infrared to make it work at night.
The 5 T has a camera and no ir because reviews all ready showed it needs light to work otherwise it does not. Some people believe anything :-s
Tell me looking at the screen protector where could this mystical hardware be ?
The face id that's implemented on OnePlus 5T is less likely to come to OnePlus 5 according to an Indian youtube tech reviewer 'Geekyranjith' (source : Twitter). He claims to have spoken to Carl Pei, who in turn said that the face unlocking feature on OnePlus 5T won't come to OnePlus 5 due to some hardware restrictions. Will have to wait and see if the feature is hardware or software related. Ofcourse for now there is Google 'Smart Lock' feature( in all android phones 4.0+) for face unlock, but not as fast and reliable as on OnePlus 5T.

Yeah..I Know in actual, there no hardware limitations. The both device have same camera sensors.
Also I dont Trust GeekyRanjit,
But it seems OnePlus might want to keep the feature limited yo Op5t. -_-
Lets see if we get the ans for this in the AMA session on 21st.
Even If it it doesn't come to Op5 then it would be easily ported by some Developers

1st of all - don't use colored text when you write posts, it hurts the eyes when reading... everyone here will be gratefull for that
2nd - if you don't like LG p990 - just buy the other phone and spare us from reading unuseful posts in the future
3rd - if you want good picture quality - buy an micro 4/3 slr camera like Olympus Pen series (small, portable,...)
i always smile at people expecting great photos from their mobile phones - yes, some HTC's and iPhone may have better pictures than our LG O2x - but that is also a crap quality if you ever used a decent photo camera in your life...
Calm down. If you want to complain, send a message to LG.

I would never spend that kind of money on ANY phone, no matter the brand or specs... But anyway, it was your decision. However, speaking of the "software warranty", you must be dreaming, because there is no such thing in the universe. Not sure what you are talking about... I don't know, you may have some sort of a support agreement from your carrier saying you would get updates for two years, but nobody in their right mind, be it a carrier, retailer or manufacturer, would ever guarantee either particular timeframe for software updates, or specific versions/functionality.

On my phone (stock V30a) it takes about 2 sec from pressing a shutter button to the moment the camera is ready for another photo. Not bad, in my opinion. In poor light conditions, when the flash is enabled, it takes up to about 4 sec (longer time to focus). However, the flash is very good, with no overexposure.
Photos quality is ****ty when we compare it to GB. ICS have too much compression on it...
P990 Tapatalk 2.0
OK the camera is bad.... And every review about the o2x said so, or at least most of them so does it come as a surprise? Not really at least not for me.
You all did read about the phone first before you bought it right?
You can't have been that stupid that you bought a phone and a rather pricey one for that matter and not have read at least 1 review?
Also you did go to a store and tried it to, right??
Of course you all did. I can't think about at any person not sane enough to do those two things before they buy a phone. Even my 80 years old grandma does that, she visits the stores multiplied times and different stores each time and try the phone, asks the salesman and finally comes to me for a review "is it a good phone for her or not".
Based on these facts the camera quality can't have been a surprise.
Next thing is the software updates. That's not really any surprise ether of course LG have been bad on this part. But most people know that unless Nexus is written on the phone you won't get any fast updates. Some manufactures are then better then others but most have the same problem. If you don't believe me.... Take a field trip to any other none nexus phone here on the forum that's as old as our, and see for your self..
And if you can't live with this go and buy one of those half eaten fruit phones. They have fast updates and long update support life.
But camera on GB is really good when we compare only a smartphones.

and that is because you use a ICS leak firmware v28
try stock or custom v30 ICS and the high overexposed pictures made with flash are gone.
taking pictures are a tad quicker also.
i agree on the fact that GB AND cameramod from AndyCP give me 3-5 mb photo's

Does it feel a lot thinner then the N4? My wife has an HTC One and I love the thinness of that device. My N4 feels like a brick next to it. Do you notice much difference when holding the N4 and N5?
Also, how is Kit-Kat. Dies it feel like much of the same? What about screen size? On a 4.7" screen the nav bottons feel like they take up way to much room. On a 5" screen, do you now feel like there is plenty of screen real estate to do what you want to do?
And last for now, how does the screen quality compare to the N4 or any other top of the line phone out now?
Thank for any responses....

Doesn't feel any thinner to personally, When I lay the N5 flat next to the N4 is actually pretty level due to the camera hump.
Kit-Kat is smooth and really responsive, the translucent Status and Nav bar is a great touch imo.
The screen real estate is ok for me, especially considering this is about as big as my hand can support with one handed use. I'm sure as soon as custom roms start coming along we will be able to utilise PIE controls again.
In terms of Screen quality it's really sharp but the colours appear to be slightly washed out but once again I'm sure custom kernels will remedy this.
after some time please share battery life impressions.. !!!

Hi, fierce Galaxy Note 9 owners !
Having this phone for less than a month now, in replacement to my Note 5, I'd like to know if any of you experienced some regressions : which functionalities have disappeared from you previous Galaxy Note phone, and what are the workarounds you found ?
To quickly begin by my experience, some regressions I've found :
- Loss of the ability to easily pick up the calls by voice (you have now to pass through Bixby, only in English)
- Loss of the ability to set timeout duration for lockscreen, after the phone have been woke up without being unlocked
- Loss of the ability to span a background image on multiple spaces
Did you experience any other regressions ?
I wish I can add anything here but I was coming from Note 4.
-no removable battery
-no IR blaster
-durable design
Didn't see any reason to move little steps and spend money in between Notes.
I dont like Bixby. It is redundant. The interaction is very slow.

Regressions from my limited exposure to this Note9:
-I used to have lag, now I don't. Maybe if I open 45 apps at once and put on power saving mode, I can recreate the lag?
-I used to take pictures of my kids with my phone, which resulted in them not smiling because they saw a camera in their face. Now that I'm using my s-pen with Bluetooth, I can surreptitiously snap photos in the moment. Now my kids look natural and are smiling. How do I fix this and get back to straight-faced stares?
-My battery used to die early and allowed me to remove my phone from my person and let it charge. This kept me from being connected to social media 24/7. Now I have no way to escape it because the battery lasts all day! HOW DO I FIX THIS??
-I used to be able to subtlely take out my phone and make a call or text without anyone caring. I'm an introvert, so this was great. Now, everyone wants to know where I got my phone, how I got such an amazing-looking color, etc. It's very uncomfortable. No fix in sight!
-Used to be able to have an excuse to delete photos because I ran out of space and was forced to analyze which photos were really necessary. The one I accidentally took of my feet? Probably can delete... NOW, there's no way I'll EVER run out of space and I'll have those stupid photos clogging up my phone forever! VERY FRUSTRATING!

Fair enough
Though, I didn't mean here to point out the ameliorations over previous Note versions : all the threads in XDA and myself having bought a Note 9 show them enough.
However, when posting these (software) regressions, I'm hoping that some might be corrected in next firmware updates.

Haha yeah, I was mostly speaking out of expectations honestly (and some from my amazing Note8 experience). Although I have experienced SOME of these things from playing with it in store and using one of my friend's Note9.

It's not this timeout I was thinking of.
I was convinced that the re-lock time just after the screen wakes up was parametrizable. I was wrong.

What?
The one I attached, it drives how long the phone locks for password after screen times out.

Regression, I haven't been this happy with a Note since my beloved Note 3! What took Samsung so long?
My only gripe is that the swipe right to call or swipe left to message has been removed in Note 9
Was working fine on Note 8.

Try Pulse or Textra. Both are way better anyway.
There is no more simple "swipe" to unlock from lockscreen. So instead I use the smart lock feature, which is not very smart. It works about half the time. Not only that, I really NEED the simple swipe to lock. I WANT my phone to not be able to be opened up accidentally in my pocket (or other places) but I don't want to use a password, PIN or other actual LOCKING function. Just a simple swipe - does everything I need without the hassle of a more complicated security lock, which is not nearly as easy to unlock as swipe to unlock... I know I am not the only one who dislikes that they took away this feature. If you make it "swipe to unlock" on the Note 9, it deletes all of your biometric information. So in other words, you can't use your fingerprint to unlock you banking app unless you have password or PIN lock on you lockscreen. Stupid to make it this way Samsung. My Note 8 has swipe to unlock and I get to keep my biometric data.
Hey I have a Verizon retail unit I'm reviewing and figured I start a thread about it with what I'm experiencing as I go.
I did an unboxing and first look comparing it to the V40 and the Pixel 3. https://youtu.be/fFcwGiNcJkw
First I must say I like that LG launched this with Android Pie, V40 still waiting. Also it's great to have a wide angle camera back. I stopped using the v40 since it did not have pie and could not set it up from my daily pixel 3 because of it.
I have popped a Verizon sim in so real world testing has started. I will be taking it down to a NASA launch this week so will be taking LOTS of photos and videos with it over the next week. Be sure to follow me @jerflash on Instagram and Twitter for first look at photos.
Let me know if you have any questions and take a look at my other videos ?
1st, could you please show in video if one can turn on "Pie Andriod gestures" on G8 in settings? Or are they totally disabled from kernel and not supported ? That'll be weird 'cause w/o gestures G8 is DOA

The Android Pie gestures are indeed present. When I used my Pixel 3 to fully setup the device they turned on automatically bit you can enable them in settings.
The pill looks a bit different from the one on the Pixel but works the same. The animation is a bit jank when swiping up from the pill to get resents. I suspect they don't think many people will turn it on.

Not sure if you knew this but you don't have to even swipe up. You can just swipe sideways on the pill for recents which I find very quick.

Yes this does work quicker than the pull-up but not quite as intuitive for me. I use it on the pixel occasionally.

Love the LG G8 that I’ve purchased from T-Mobile though I have major issues that might make me trade it in for a Oneplus 7 (if T-Mobile sells it).
work on improving face ID and hand ID for better security features
use TOF camera to create excellent selfies
update the Lg skin already to something more modern UI
full screen gestures as an option (pill gestures are terrible)
perfect night mode in the camera app
Finally, to make a difference join the google android Q beta and be first since both of your phones were out early.
With these problems, if the one plus 7 comes with the 48 mega pixel Sony sensor for binning support, 6.2 – 6.4 inches display and how fast they do updates will make me trade in LG G8.
Can you please share screenshot of camera details using app called hw device info?

Identical to LG v40
The front selfie is different, it uses the same one like the 5x zoom telephoto camera sensor of Huawei p30 pro
Have seen many posts saying the problem is fixes after the new update.
If you try samsung diagnostic menu, you will see the problem again.

I don't notice the problem in real use, but many people do, samsung should recall all unites and fix this.
I remember this diagnostic tool is not appropriate for some reason. Download Touch Screen Test from Play Store and do the test again. Also, the latest firmware update BUA5 has been reported to fix the issue completely, which my phone hasn't received yet (unlocked on Verizon).

The touch screen test app does not show any problems, only if you swipe fast, but anyway, looks like a shady fix

? it is valid, it recognizes the ghost touching tf
I think you're suppose to follow the rectangles and make an "X"; if those register after being touched it's working correctly.
If you have an after market screen protector this may screw it up.
If you're inadvertently touching the screen that can screw it up.
Try increasing or decreasing touch sensitivity.
Try enabling accidental touch protection if that's an option.
Clear the system cache on the boot menu.
Try a hard reboot (not reset!!!).

the thing is it's probably happening to more people because they ****ed the phone with cheap components
the fix they promise just hides the problem away in the touch screen test app
that's why im angry
I'm on the latest BUA5 and for me it didn't fix the issue. Maybe it did make it a little bit better, but it is not completely gone. For me the touch issue is so small, I don't mind. I can only encounter the problem in the test app.
My guess is that many who think it is fixed, didn't swipe fingers fast, close or long enough. The problem won't occur if you swipe on the edges of the screen and it won't occur immediately, only after some time.
OR then it is really fixed for some, but then I guess I'm not the lucky one

Samsung will substitute components and smaller chipsets as needed during a production run.
Result unpredictable behavior after firmware updates because the firmware wasn't configured for the substitute chipset.
It's so bad Sammy doesn't know what chipsets were used without physically examining the unit.
After which they can correct the firmware... presumably or replace said component.
Send it in or get a replacement if you believe you have a major issue.
Welcome to Sammy's beta hardware test program

You are right. Swiping up and down alternately with two fingers close enough still creates ghost touches, far apart no issue. Although the fix may not be perfect, in day to day use I'd say the fix is good enough, because we hold a phone in a landscape mode when playing games, and two thumbs are far apart from each other.

I have the 10+. If Samsung repairs it they will send it back with the original seals. It's not rocket science.
In time after enough have been seen Samsung may well include a firmware patch for the effected units. Lol, after over a year and a half Samsung finally has the Buds+ firmware dialed in... they sound great, now.
You could also demand a full refund.
If I could get one out of Sony... anything is possible
Rule #1 no free rides.

It is what it is...
They will probably in some months completely fix it. It doesn't affect normal use anyway so, i will just let it go
Imagine paying so much for the buds + and only after a year the firmware is right
They have been putting out firmware updates, and the problem has been getting fixed, but not 100%
Maybe one UI 3.1 does the trick
