gear vr and note 8 not connecting. - Samsung Gear VR

I put my note 8 in the note 8 version vr and close it together. It will stay black and occasionally flash white. Only thing I've done to my phone is switch from the unlocked stock firmware to at&t firmware in Odin. I've tried factory reset, uninstalling all vr apps, same results. I put an s7 edge in the vr and it works, not the headset. Phone usb connected to dex and computer without issues. Any ideas?

Hey, sorry you haven't gotten any input here. I thought for sure someone would be able to fix you up. I've got one more place for you to try and get a new set of eyes and perhaps a solution:

Yeah I'm baffled by this. I'm thinking of bringing it to a shop to have the usb c connector checked for defect or something blocking the connections. Thanks for the additional outlet to try.

You ever figure this out. Im having very similar issue. I plug into VR and nothing happens but everything else works fine. Started happening after an update, I think.

Yeah, it's the Oculus apps compatibility with the Note 8 according to Samsung I talked to them earlier today. They claim an update will be coming sooner or later.

Gear VR ans Note 8 mit connecting
Same here!
Then I tried to pair my Samsung Controller and immediately my Note 8 asked for Internet and installed a bunch of Software, about 4x Samsung VR Apps and 8x Oculus Apps.
After that everything runs as expected )

Extra Docking Station

I wonder if only of the existing one would be compatible. If anyone find a source for these, update this thread or if someone can check the pin layout (with volt and amps) to do the DIY road.

Just happened to me...maybe the gear 2 or duo charging cradle will work?
I just checked the Samsung website and compared it to my charging cradle, the pins on the Gear 2/ Duo are misaligned compared to the Gear Live. Even if it snaps on, it won't make a connection. Might have to wait till they start shipping on the 7th.

That is an incorrect part by the way. It is only meant for the Samsung Gear Neo devices. The pins in the back are centered in the Gear Live, but offside in the Neo.

They have changed that - as it originally said Gear Live
Must have been a mistake on their part.

I get my 3D printer tomorrow, I'm totally new to it all but I'm going to try working on a solution. It'll probably require mutilating the stock charger for parts for make a dock, but what could possibly be worse than stock?
I wish they launch extra docking station sooner. Its a really big need. I am afraid to lose the current as its so small !

If you can create a solution with that printer, that also solves the issues that people are having with things breaking thanks to that little charger, ya might be able to sell those...in which case...may I ask for a discount

I have zero 3D modeling experience and don't yet own a caliper to take measurements of the charger, but my idea was to just make a good stable base (like the G Watch's charger) and sculpt a dip in it for the stock charger to fit into along with a hole for the cord. Simple, but then you could snap the clips off of the charger to protect the watch.

Unplug Chromecast from the TV, plug power into Chromecast, plug Chromecast into TV.
Beyond that, try a different TV/monitor.
If you still get invalid signal, Chromecast itself might be broken.
Also try a different Input if you have one available....

ive actually tried this, and different inputs, and same problem.. i even bought a different chromecast to try and same thing now.. it literally worked fine for months... the chromecast connects to my signal fine and i can still see it on the app just nothing on the screen at all smh
finally tried a different television, and it worked fine... seems like its my tv now,but i dont understand how cuz its worked fine up until a week or so ago...
I had this same issue last year. Google never wanted to take responsibility since the issue started after one of their unsolicited updates. They walked me through "fixes" and even sent me a warranty replacement. Funny thing was that it came on the very first firmware and worked... until the update was pushed to it. I just gave up.

Definitely file a report if it goes from working to not. Unfortunately the forced update nature of the Chromecast ecosystem makes things like this possible...
Most likely CC is trying to use a resolution or format that it didn't before, and now it's making the TV confused.

I hade the same issue also with a 7 year old Samsung LCD TV. Used to work then didn't after an update. Works fine on a 1080p TV.

It happened to my tv as well(and most 720P TVs).
Something in one of the updates(around January) caused the chromecast to not properly handshake with the TV.
They are blaming it on badly formed EDID signals(which reports the available/best resolutions it accepts) from some TV's.
If you file a bug through the chromecast app, maybe they'll get enough complaints to fix it.

AT&T Note 4 - connecting to the VR does nothing...

I checked to see if I could uninstall the apps from my downloaded apps but that's not an option either. Anyone know what I can do to fix this?
Me too. Just bought one off eBay. Connected Gear vr and nothing happens. Factory reset my Note 4. Manually installed gear vr and still nothing. Thinking of rolling back to kitkat to see if it works.
Yeah I don't want to have to do all that. Seems silly that there would be any issues with this
Sent from my Note 4
Found out you won't be able to use Gear vr on Kitkat. It forces you to upgrade to lollipop in order to use the Oculus app.
Ah OK. I just spoke with at&t and they were of no help. Samsung's support page says call carrier if it isn't working. Bs. Can't find any info online about it either besides that people were having issues on Verizon last year and needed an update. I'm just going to return the thing this weekend if I can't figure it out
Sent from my Note 4
I may have to do the same thing if I can't figure anything out. And buy a decent pair of goggles that work with Google cardboard. At least I could use that pair with any handset.
Yeah that was my origjnal plan and then convinced myself to get this. It's a bummer really
Sent from my Note 4
This is going to sound silly but I got it working. Even though I thought the phone was fully connected it wasn't. Be sure to push it till you can't see the connector.

Woo. I think I got it. All I did was pushed it down firmly in and it worked.
Hah yeah

S pen feature doesnt work

Okay. I have a note 5. 5 1.1 android. Us cellular is the carrier. I did a factory reset already.
I tested the s pen that came with this phone on my friends note 4, the pen worked on hers and her s pen didnt work on mine. I also used an s pen from another note 5 that i know works. Still doesnt work on mine. I went on the s pen settings. And everything is checked. Am i missing/forgetting something ? Thanks for the help!

S-pen issues

Hello,
I have been noticing that my s-pen sticks/freezes sometimes. Hard to explain, but im going to try. Lets say I am swiping to type a message, once i take the s-pen off the screen, it continues to swipe the keyboard unless i move it even further from the phone. Same happens when i browse the web, sometimes the spen keeps scrolling the webpage even if i am not touching the screen but. I have air view option turned off.
has anyone experienced anything similar?
Thanks
Anyone?

A few weeks. It doesn't always happen, maybe once or twice a week
So i got a new s-pen and the issue is still there. Called samsung and they expect me to mail my phone to them for repairs, which will take 2 weeks. Then the representative just hangs up. what a bull
Here is a video of the issue
https://youtu.be/HLsaj5bHIzs
I had a simmilar issue with my note 7, the s pen was the culprit, bought another and problem solved, if you got another s pen and the problem is still there, then warranty claim is a must
Ya, I'll be sending it for repair to Samsung

Update, I sent the of time for you repairs to a Samsung facility in Texas. They did a good job not damaging the phone. So far everything works great, but I had the phone for less than 24hrs. I'll update the thread in a few days
Any update? I also sent my phone in for repair of a similar issue and when I got it back, it seems like nothing was fixed. Samsung wrote that they "replaced cosmetic" whatever that means?
So far my phone seems to be working just fine. Samsung replaced the screen and the s pen. I also wrote a note with a link to a video of the issue when I sent in the phone
started doing the same thing a few months ago. Initially if happened every few weeks but became more common as time passed. Finally sent the phone to Samsung again. Received an email from them today with findings.
Problem found:
AUTO REBOOT ON POWER OFF
Solution:
REPLACED PBA
So looks like they replaced the motherboard or components of it.
