Is it safe to clear fire launcher data or cache?
What does the data (besides cache) do anyway?

Yes, it is safe to clear its cache, for the data if you haven't removed any system apps, then all the home screens settings will go back to default(like folders will be deleted, sorting will go back to default).
If you have used savvytechwinner's tools to remove system apps then your home screen icons may dissapear.

I have used Root Manager to remove some of the stock apps on the HTC Hero. (facebook, stocks, footprints etc)
When i go to applications I am now getting these showing up after reboot.
-.com.facebook.katana
-.com.amazon.mp3
-.htc.android.footprints
- etc.......
If I click on any, it gives a force close.
I removed both the adk, and odex files...Which would be from /system/app/...
Do I need to remove the data folders? /data/data/ folders? (.data/data/com.facebook.katana)
Try Wipe - Cache and Dalvik Cache...

I am assuming that you have Recovery on your phone, boot into the recovery and that should have options that will help you do that...
Does clearing the data using CLEAR DATA from one of the choices the Manage Applications then going to ALL delete the application?
Does it uninstall/delete the application completely? Or is it more like a clear browser cache type of clear?
If it does delete, is it possible for me to accidentally delete an essential android system file that I will not be able to recover? (I have no plans of modding or changing roms etc)
For example, the Camera app, if I press CLEAR DATA will it remove it permanently?
What if I accidentally delete something essential?
Thanks.
i was wondering everytime i uninstall a program the internal memory does not restore from its original size... ex. i install an app with size of 7mb with my internal of 152MB then after i uninstall it, the memory will be 151MB... it doesn't go back to 152MB...
is this a bug? how do i solve this? thanks!!
It's the same for.me

Eh ? I never encountered this...
Which ROM are you using ?
Restart your phone after un-installing an app and check the space again.

im using gingercruzt ROM 7.4... very stable except for this problem...
When you install an app in user application space and android run it a file is wrote in dalvik cache. If you uninstall the app unfortunately this not remove the spam in dalvik cache.
If you have a rooted phone you can simply clean the dalvik cache and you gain the lost space. I use CWM for that, but there are also good tools like System Tune Pro which have a menu for "clear data cache" and "clear dalvik cache".

Or use an explorer (e.g. file explorer or root explorer) to go to Dalvik cache & delete folders specific to apps you've uninstalled. I've done that a few times before (hardly ever anymore). Dalvik cache exists for a reason. Don't just go around messing with it!

Well, unless you're upgrading ROMs, having boot-up/ROM-crash issues, random unusual FCs and a few other special situations, there's really no need for wiping the Dalvik cache. As far as I know.
I wrote an app for this specific purpose, its called "SD Maid".
The link is in my signature.
Sadly though, the only way to deal with randomly named directory on /mnt/sdcard/ is to delete them manually.
Hi, I have a friend who decide to get this phone against my personal suggestion, now the issue is I that have no clue how to delete the cached data, I own Galaxy phones and Nexus, that I know where to go to delete the cached data, however I can't seem to find that option on HTC, nor if I boot on recovery I'll see this feature.
So the question is, How do I delete Cached Data on HTC?

Settings > Apps > Tap the app > Delete Cache / Delete Data ?
No, Nexus and Samsung phones include an option to delete the Cache Partition and Cached data, so I don't have to go 1 by 1, for what I read somewhere, the only way to remove the Cached data on HTC is by turning off the phone, removing the battery for 10 seconds, turning it on again...or this Wipe Cache...will never recommend this phone...guess I'll try this...
At night, the phone's screen will turn on when it receives a notification, then never turn off. It also doesn't always show the black and white "ambient display" notification screen all of the time. Texts and emails will still show the regular one that I'm used to with other phones. Is there any way to make it work properly?
Try to wipe cache only, in recovery if necessary. Worked for some.

Are those instructions only for the OP3? I'm using an OP3T and they don't work for me. I don't see any option to wipe cache partition.
EDIT: I went into recovery mode and wiped the cache. I hope this works.
Go to settings then apps then find your app. Click storage and you will see the option to wipe cache.

I don't know which app could be causing this, so I just went into recovery mode and wiped the phone's entire cache that way. I'm hoping this solves it because I REALLY don't want to have to do a factory reset. I had to manually download all of my apps when I switched phones.
You can clear the systems app from apps in settings but I don't know if that will fix it. Clearing the phone from recovery shouldn't delete your apps but will Probably clear your logins and passwords for different apps

Doing a factory reset will delete everything, including apps. That's what I'm trying to avoid. Like I said, I don't know which app is the culprit here.
