At night, the phone's screen will turn on when it receives a notification, then never turn off. It also doesn't always show the black and white "ambient display" notification screen all of the time. Texts and emails will still show the regular one that I'm used to with other phones. Is there any way to make it work properly?
Try to wipe cache only, in recovery if necessary. Worked for some.

How do I do that?
Does anyone know how to wipe the cache like the guy above suggested?

Are those instructions only for the OP3? I'm using an OP3T and they don't work for me. I don't see any option to wipe cache partition.
EDIT: I went into recovery mode and wiped the cache. I hope this works.
Go to settings then apps then find your app. Click storage and you will see the option to wipe cache.

I don't know which app could be causing this, so I just went into recovery mode and wiped the phone's entire cache that way. I'm hoping this solves it because I REALLY don't want to have to do a factory reset. I had to manually download all of my apps when I switched phones.
You can clear the systems app from apps in settings but I don't know if that will fix it. Clearing the phone from recovery shouldn't delete your apps but will Probably clear your logins and passwords for different apps

Doing a factory reset will delete everything, including apps. That's what I'm trying to avoid. Like I said, I don't know which app is the culprit here.

I hav an htc hero and I'm wondering how to clear my gallerys cache using the partitions menu in clockworkmod recovery. Its a lot to type from my phone so here's the info from my android forums post.
androidforums.com/sprint-hero-all-things-root/266717-how-do-i-clear-my-gallery-its-showing-wrong-pictures.html
I'm guessing it can be done there like when I wanted to clear my google apps I was told to use format /system and it wordked. But I don't know what these things actually do so I don't want to use the wrong one and lost other things from my phone
I'm not quite sure what cache your referring to, but in your menu settings " within your rom" it should be a option for managing your apps. Once you find that selection you can find the gallery application and clear the cache. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Iv tried this already. And it didn't work. I even switched roms. These are from when I had cyanogenmod. I reflashed everything and am now using aosp. And it still does it. But only in gallery. quickpic doesn't but that app isn't very good. That's y I'm trying to find what the things in the partitions menu do. Because gapps don't get deleted between roms, u have to go to partitions menu then format /system. So there must b a place outside the rom where old caches are stored
I think you just clear the Dev cache..
I Don't use clockwork but partitioning usually erases everything.

I just tried clearing the gallery data and clearing the cache threw the recovery menu. But yet still when I click a photo I see the correct one for a split seccond and then it turns into an old deleted photo
Try looking on your sd card in your camera folder there might be img.'s left on there. If so delete the old images and reboot. You would look in the folder titled DCIM then look under camera.

I tryed taking all the photos off into my computer and deleting the folders and everything... unfortuately it didn't work. Thank you guys for these sugestions. I appreciate it because id like to figure this out
Well I found a fix just in case anyone else has this problem. I did the format system cache boot and data in the partitions menu. It didn't even help. Im not sure where the pics are being stored but my problem was the stock gallery. I went to it in titanium backup. And used that to find the app in the market. I installed the 3d gallery over stock. Which took out stock And made the 3d gallery app mess up and loop the startup of my phone. It gave a blank icon and said com.gallery and then I used titanium backup to uninstall that because the market wouldnt let me. And then reinstall the 3d gallery from market. And the stock is gone along with the problem! App works fine now!

This in my Opinion this is the Easiest Way, All I do is just Open my File Manager and go to
Sdcard/DCIM/.thumbnails/
Then I Select All, and Delete Everything in that File!
From what I Noticed, Whenever I Reboot the Phone, The Cache and a Few Other Files Recreate Themselves Independently!
Good Luck!!
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App
after running ClockworkMod fix permissions, 90% of all text is messed up to the point i cant read most of anything any guesses on what needs to be fix.
You should read before you flash things to your phone.

well there is a fix to this, if you have a back up on titanium backup of the fonts app (the one with the white and yellow shield) make a force restore of app and data and let it sit for a while afterwards run cwm and clear dalvik cache and the normal cache and you should be good to go
My phone no longer knows its location. Wi-Fi and Data are enabled. I have “Menu --> Settings --> Location --> Use wireless networks” enabled. I have Browser Setting “Enable Location” checked. However, None of my applications such as “News & Weather” and Weather Widgets can find the current location. I can force the location to be found by GPS, but GPS was never required in the past. Any suggestions to correct the problem?
Update 1: Cerberus is another app that can not get location. Google Maps has no problem identifying the correct location with GPS off.
Update 2: Last week when using Clean Master, a lot of files unexpectedly got wiped. All my bookmarks, pictures, Titanium Backup files, and TWRP backup. Many were even located on the ext card. I wonder if this action deleted a file that assists with apps that display/use current location?
Resolved: So looking through TB, I noticed a system APP "Network Location 1.1.08" that was removed. Don't know how that app was removed. But after reinstalling using TB, everything is back to normal.

I have many times and rebooted each time. I used TB to wipe data and used SD Maid to clean using APP Cleaner. Interestingly, Google Maps works just fine even with GPS off.
well then.. lets here from others, if they have experienced similar scenario..
i already share what ive done.. and it did work out for me..
i hope you find solutions for it..

Make nandroid backup.in CWM/TWRP. Do factory reset, and initalize phone from begining (like you did first time when you got it). And see if that helps.

I will and report back. Dumb question, will I loose root and CoCore kernel if I factory flash?
Additional thoughts of what happened

Ok so after attempting replace the AT&T contacts app I finally succeeded, but now my phone doesn't work and I recently lost text messaging.
I downloaded the apk files from this thread then placed them - Contacts.apk, ContactsProvider.apk, Phone.apk, PhoneConfig.apk and associated .odex - in my /system/app folder. I then restarted the phone several times and cleared the Dalvik cache using the SystemCleaner app.
As it stands right now, placing my SIM card in the phone and having it in anything other than airplane mode, I get the error com.android.phone stopped. I can dial a number without the SIM card in but it fails because I'm not connected to my carriers network.
Using Titanium Backup & Restore app, I notice that com.android.providers.telephony isn't installed. I also notice com.motorola.messaging isn't installed. These may suggest why things aren't working.
My phone has been rooted and has an unlocked bootloader. It has the stock ROM and I'd like to keep it if possible. I just want to fix these issues and have my phone back the way it was before all these issues started. Also I'd like to recover my previous text messages if possible.
Any help in addressing this issue would be great.

Ok so I used Titanium Backup to Wipe Data for Contacts and Phone, powered off the phone, then powered it back on, then inserted my SIM. I got the same message.
If the process for clearing the cache is something else a brief explanation would be welcomed.
By the way ai6908, thanks for taking the time to respond to this thread.
it should have worked...go to CWM and wipe cache and davlik after you wipe data...did you wipe contact storage?
This is why you backup. All you needed to remove art contacts was root uninstaller

Ended up reinstalling the stock ROM and uninstalling most of the AT&T apps. I didn't bother attempting to replace the Contact app with the stock android version.
In Oreo you could click on storage and clean the cache but that seems to have been removed in Pie. Is there a way to do it? I found that clearing the cache on a regular basis improved my device battery life.

Not sure what the difference between the two options entail. The second one just sounds like everything would stop working.

Yup there will be no background processes when you will be not using your phone or in particular not using that app it will kill that process...
