In Oreo you could click on storage and clean the cache but that seems to have been removed in Pie. Is there a way to do it? I found that clearing the cache on a regular basis improved my device battery life.

Not sure what the difference between the two options entail. The second one just sounds like everything would stop working.

Hi,
Anyone used any apps to clear application caches on the Hero?
Thanks
Phil
I don't think that you need any app , just go to setting , application , manage apps , now find the app that you are looking for , then enter and press on clear cache.
Yes I know that, point is it takes ages to do each app manually.
Be good to have an app to clear a selection automatically

Eh ? I never encountered this...
Which ROM are you using ?
Restart your phone after un-installing an app and check the space again.

im using gingercruzt ROM 7.4... very stable except for this problem...
When you install an app in user application space and android run it a file is wrote in dalvik cache. If you uninstall the app unfortunately this not remove the spam in dalvik cache.
If you have a rooted phone you can simply clean the dalvik cache and you gain the lost space. I use CWM for that, but there are also good tools like System Tune Pro which have a menu for "clear data cache" and "clear dalvik cache".

Or use an explorer (e.g. file explorer or root explorer) to go to Dalvik cache & delete folders specific to apps you've uninstalled. I've done that a few times before (hardly ever anymore). Dalvik cache exists for a reason. Don't just go around messing with it!

Well, unless you're upgrading ROMs, having boot-up/ROM-crash issues, random unusual FCs and a few other special situations, there's really no need for wiping the Dalvik cache. As far as I know.
I wrote an app for this specific purpose, its called "SD Maid".
The link is in my signature.
Sadly though, the only way to deal with randomly named directory on /mnt/sdcard/ is to delete them manually.
Hi all,
Does Marshmallow still optimize apps in a similar way to Lollipop etc?
I've noticed if I clear the cache then the optimizing apps screen briefly pops up but then doesn't count up to x out of xx.
Looking at my system partitions, the cache is only using 180kb out of 248mb.
Is this normal?

Thanks. I was used to it counting up to 300ish apps for 5-10 mins. Now its almost instant!
At night, the phone's screen will turn on when it receives a notification, then never turn off. It also doesn't always show the black and white "ambient display" notification screen all of the time. Texts and emails will still show the regular one that I'm used to with other phones. Is there any way to make it work properly?
Try to wipe cache only, in recovery if necessary. Worked for some.

Are those instructions only for the OP3? I'm using an OP3T and they don't work for me. I don't see any option to wipe cache partition.
EDIT: I went into recovery mode and wiped the cache. I hope this works.
Go to settings then apps then find your app. Click storage and you will see the option to wipe cache.

I don't know which app could be causing this, so I just went into recovery mode and wiped the phone's entire cache that way. I'm hoping this solves it because I REALLY don't want to have to do a factory reset. I had to manually download all of my apps when I switched phones.
You can clear the systems app from apps in settings but I don't know if that will fix it. Clearing the phone from recovery shouldn't delete your apps but will Probably clear your logins and passwords for different apps

Doing a factory reset will delete everything, including apps. That's what I'm trying to avoid. Like I said, I don't know which app is the culprit here.
I have posted this earlier on MIUI community but I don't think anyone concerned with Bugs has taken notice of it.
I am MIUI 11.0.6(India).
From the day I have bought this device and started using it, I am facing this issue. For any kind of app, I basically see 0 byte as its storage when I open the app info. I am not shown any Cache/Data for any app(System/Third Party). That does mean they don't have the data. If I use the cleaner I am shown the amount of cache my mobile has accumulated.
The reason I can't ignore this is because there are times when a particular app doesn't behave properly, and you just want to reset it by clearing its cache and data without uninstalling the app which sadly I can't do.
I was on MIUI 11.0.4 when I started facing this issue and it is still there. I don't want to do a factory reset and start all over again.

Can't clear app data/cache
I have been facing the same issue for the past few days. I searched for it everywhere but can't find a solution. It's strange that nobody has taken a notice of this issue. can't find a post related to this. Even if there's a post like yours, there're no replies or solutions.
Bro, have you found a solution to your problem yet?
If you have, please let me know.
Usage Access Permission is Denied
Hi, I had this same issue with RN8Pro.
Solution: You need to allow Usage Access permission to Security App from Settings > Privacy > Special Permissions > Usage Access. (Be sure to click more and "show system"). Reboot after changing permissions.
So happy I was thinking to restore factory settings on my phone and had backed up all the data but that's the solution.
If it helped you please hit Thanks.
Just turn on usage access for Security and you are done...!!
.
Search usage acces in settings and you will get there..It helps
Giving usage access to Security worked for me...Thanx. Redmi note 9 pro with miui 12 android 11.
