How to root oneplus 3t in Oreo beta. - OnePlus 3T Questions & Answers

I finally decided to root my oneplus 3t so read some forums to do that. But I got confused with post saying root only when you are on xyz version OOS. So can any body tell these steps are right or not.
1. Backup internal memory as rooting wipe internal memory.
2. Unlock fast boot via fasboot oemunlock
3. Flash recovery
4. Flash supersu.
Can anybody give me links for supersu and recovery which are not having any issues to flash resurrection remix 7.1.1 official.
Thanks.

Rooting does not wipe anything. Unlocking your bootloader does wipe.
Enable Developer Options, go into it and enable OEM Unlocking and also enable Advanced Power Menu. Hold down the power button, select reboot, and select Bootloader. This reboots your to fastboot. This is where you can fastboot oemunlock in order to unlock your bootloader.
You can now flash a recovery. BluSpark works with all versions, including Oreo: https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-3/oneplus-3--3t-cross-device-development/kernel-t3404970
After flashing a recovery, reboot to recovery. You can now flash your root of choice, either SuperSU or Magisk.
Magisk 14.3: https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/beta-magisk-v13-0-0980cb6-t3618589

If your bootloader is not already unlocked, yes, you will need to do so in order to flash a custom recovery.
Magisk is working as of the latest open beta.

Bluspark is a developer that maintains a custom kernel and a custom TWRP recovery.
The latest TWRP recovery is twrp-3.1.1-x_blu_spark_v8.52-op3_op3t.img - found here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/?id=15934#downloads

So this twrp recover is better than official twrp.? Bluspark twrp is can able to flash OOS as well without any issues? And what is magisk?

Official TWRP has compatibility issues with Oreo currently. Bluspark TWRP works with all versions.
Magisk is a systemless root option. The main benefit of Magisk of SuperSU is that Magisk bypasses SafetyNet, so your device is not seen as insecure by Google, so apps like Netflix and Android Pay work like normal.

If I want to go back to OOS then I will not have any issues while backing up via titanium back up and all right.

I successfully rooted my phone. I have some couple of quesrtion
1. Right now I am using beta 18 with magisk. So Bet 19comes then can we do ota update. Or do i need to flash entire rom. As i dont have stock recovery. Twrp can able to handle that? If yes then after ota magisk will intact with Rom right?
2. I planning to flash resurrection remix 7.1.2 official. And OP says i need to flash firm ware. So if I flash firmware n in future if I plan to comeback OOS then can i flash direct OOS or i need get firmware OOS also?
3. Which is correct version of gapps for OP3t? I mean arm 64?

1. Flash the full OTA (1+ GB), custom kernel and magisk in TWRP.
2. You wouldn't want to dirty flash OOS over RR. Clean flash full OOS zip, custom kernel and magisk.
3. You won't need Gapps for OOS. If flashing custom ROMs that require Gapps, then you'll pick the Gapps that match Android version and Arm 64.

TWRP/Stock Recovery can´t install any Rom!

Hello i need help. I was on OOS 4.0. Like to update to 4.0.1 with clean System. So i boot to TWRP and make fullwipe(format:data/system/cache-dalvik cache)
After flash the 4.0.1 twrp says no os install. Ihave test another rom from this side https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-3t/how-to/zip-flashable-firmware-modem-t3509015 but no way.
After that i flash stock recovery (fastboot) and stock rom via adb sideload but after 46% the installation failed (3 times).
Sorry for bad english and thanks for all
I read somewhere that TWRP is not compatible with the OSS 4.0 or higher and that's why you get errors when trying to install them. So, to make it work you gotta install the newest and beta version of TWRP...
Here you go, as I already said, it's a beta version, I'm not 100% sure if it'll work...

Could you install it?
There's a way to flash the 36MB OTA file in TWRP without downloading the full 4.0.1 zip.
I think the OTA fails and gets stuck because of SuperSU or Magisk modifies the boot.img
So, you could try this:
1. Dirty flash the full 4.0 zip
2. Flash 4.0.1
3. Flash SuperSU/Magisk

?Guide for 4.1.6 TWRP/Magisk --> 4.1.7

Hi folks,
I'm considering taking my OP3T from 4.1.6 to the just released 4.1.7, more to get rid of the nag notification than anything else. But I want to double check the process since this will be my first update since I got the phone.
I have TWRP and Magisk root.
Would the process be to download the entire full package, not just the OTA, flash it from TWRP, then reflash TWRP and Magisk before booting? Or would I need to flash via fastboot based on what is available?
I will make a TWRP backup of the whole thing and copy it to PC before starting anything, but would rather not klutz around.
Is there an update guide that spells it out for the case of being rooted and TWRP enabled?
Thanks

OTA will be enough, just copy the ota zip to the phone and then flash it via TWRP, reflash Magisk and boot the system. No need for full package or TWRP reflash.

Nope,
You are wrong.
For rooted systems, you need to flash the whole 1.4gb Rom.
Also, for the OP, no need to reflash TWRP. It won't be affected by the flashing of the rom.

Can anyone confirm this? There's a new OTA update available for mi max 2 but I'm not updating coz I'm waiting for 72 hours to complete so I can unlock bootloader. I'm kinda worried that if I update my device to miui 9.2 I might have problem unlocking my bootloader. So I'm thinking to unlock my bootloader first & then update my device thru OTA update.
I've got them but don't launch the upgrade because, if I do that, it remove my twrp by re-flashing xioami stock recovery.
I've got a global beta rom, bootloader unlocked, twrp installed and rom rooted.

Am I correct in thinking that the update would have reflashed the recovery area and eliminated anything that didn't belong? I put TWRP on it and I'm going to load a stock ROM through TWRP.
I'm wondering whether I've gotten ahead of myself and I should have gone Stock ROM-->TWRP-->Stock ROM with root.
I'm also not sure if the rooted stock ROM will allow me to enable LTE bands just by changing NVRAM settings in QPST. Does anyone know if the bands are blocked in MIUI as well?
I run unlocked boot loader, global stable and Magisk.
Every OTA, I gotta reflash TWRP, and reinstall Magisk, but yeah, I can OTA.

How do you install OTA? from the updater app in the device OR full Rom in twrp?
I just use the updater app, it reboots, and then proceeds to flash and remove TWRP and Magisk.
The only time that I've used TWRP is to flash Magisk.
Just I want. I only need TWRP to flash Magisk to enable use of Titanium Backup Pro and any adsblocker.
So Flashing TWRP via fastboot, then using TWRP flash Magisk. Use mobile as usually and when i update via OTA, reflash TWRP and Magisk, true?
EDIT: After flashing Magisk, flash stock recovery via fastboot so mobile is ready to OTA update. Right?

For starters, posting the same question in four different threads is something you shouldn't do. You could have just used the Q&A thread too ask for help.
To fix your phone, reflash the full 5.0.2 zip, if you have it. Otherwise, flash the full 5.0.1 zip, reboot your phone (you'll lose TWRP, but that's ok), then flash the 5.0.2 OTA. That should bring your phone back to normal 5.0.2.

You should always make a TWRP backup before flashing any mods (root, custom ROM, etc.). This is a good basic rule of thumb for any Android device.
The fact that you started this thread trying root, failed, and had no backup to restore, should have made the answer to this question obvious. Always try to learn from your experiences!

I Need Stock Recovery

Hi everyone,
I need a link for th OP3T stock recovery. All old threads point to OnePlus website which does not provide the stock recovery anymore.
Currently on TWRP and want to return the phone to full stock.
TIA

If you install OOS and nothing else and reboot your phone, it will automatically install stock recovery and encrypt your phone (of its not encrypted).
So, you don't need to manually install stock recovery.

Hi, thank you very much for your reply.
I have installed the latest OOS 9.0.5 downloaded from OnePlus support site. Everything is working fine but TWRP remains installed as the default recovery. I want to go completely back to stock and get rid of the DM-VERITY messages at boot.

You're not using Magisk or a custom kernel or a patched boot image are you? Because any of those will prevent the stock recovery from being installed.

I wiped and formatted everything from TWRP and then installed the OOS zip. Phone is back to stock except for the recovery.
