Unable to automatically update - Magisk

Hello!
On my Nexus 6P running LineageOS, I'm unable to automatically update Magisk. It finds the update and gives me a notification but nothing happens when I click install.
On my OnePlus One, also running LineageOS, it's all done automatically just fine.
Am I doing something wrong or is this something that has to be fixed upstream?

Make sure that the Manager has storage permission. You might have to grant it manually.

That fixed it. Thank you!
I feel Magisk should ask for permissions instead of just not working though.

Yes, it should. But there's a bug in v5.4.0...

[Q] Can someone please help me?

Xposed Framework will not install on my Straighttalk Samsung Centura for nothing. I tried installing different versions of Xposed Installer and that didn't help. Yes, I'm rooted. I use other root apps with no problem. I use Superuser. It works fine. Ok, so when I press Install/Update on Xposed Installer I giver it Superuser permissions and it says Install/Update with the little circle going around. It stayed like that all night. What am I doing wrong? I started thinking and I even changed /system permissions to r/w with File Explorer because my installation mode is Classical(write to /system directly) and thag didn't either. Does Xposed Installer use any data because I'm currently throttled and my 3G speeds are so slow. So I was wondering when you press Install/Update does Xposed Installer download something or no? Can someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong here?
Have you tried a different installation method? Also, can you post a logcat when the circle keeps on spinning?
Only the "Downloads" section uses the Internet.

I took a couple of screenshots. I'm not very techy. I don't know what a logcat is. :/

To change the installation mode: tap "installation mode".
To take a logcat: Google "logcat". There are plenty of great tutorials around that cover pretty much everything.
EDIT: Also make sure you're using the latest version of the Xposed Installer.

What installation mod should I change it to? And yes I tried using the latest version. That's why I'm using v2.6

Any of the recovery methods. One is automatic, the other manual - pick whatever you want.
A logcat of the classical installation method will be useful if you want to see it fixed (if possible), so you probably want to do that first if you care.

Too bad 2.6.1 is the latest stable version. Shouldn't make a difference, though.

No, please paste the full logcat somewhere like pastie.org or bpaste.net. You can also zip it and attach it here.

Also I didnt mention that when I give it Superuser permission, a popup keeps saying "shell has been granted Superuser permissions". I think that's normal though. It only does it for about a minute and the circle keeps spinning

Didn't the Xposed Installer warn you about a segmentation fault? Check the FAQ and try the build there (search for "segmentation fault").

You can use an Xposed module to fix it.
Else, you will need to decompile a system apk and fix it yourself

Okay, but what module and what parameter??
I fix it myself
Later uploaded for you
It has already been fixed before...
Check this out, it is a bug fix package-just extract it and take the packageinstaller.apk, push to system/app, set permissions and reboot. Alternatively try the one attached, the attached one has a white background (unlike the other one which is black), the white fits in more with Sony's 4.3 firmware.
If your getting an 'android is upgrading' message upon every boot (happened to me ) then move (or cut not copy) the packageinstaller.odex to your sd card/internal memory, reboot, then move it back into system/app, set permissions and reboot again-now it should boot like normal.
Btw you need root and a file explorer that supports root access to follow my method.
It seems to work.
Android updated once and then no problem.
Background is white. Why not.
Thanks a lot.

It is solved by replacing the APK but I had forgotten this module.
So if fixes this bug?
Is there a list of solved bugs?
I will download and apply to test. Thanks...

It only fixes the uninstall text going offset. Other than that the module seemed to be dead.

Don't understand how to update Magisk Manager

When I opened Magisk Manager today it prompted me with this message:
Install Magisk Manager
Do you want to install MagiskManager-v5.4.0.apk now?
With the options "NO THANKS" and "INSTALL".
Problem is if I select "Install" nothing happens. Am I doing something wrong?
Same here I am wondering what's up.
Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
Same here too. Update not work. Have install manuel and its working.
That is because of a bug in the Manager v5.3.0. Download the current Manager from the release thread and install manually.
After a reboot the update worked just fine. Go figure...

I have a couple of devices, update worked fine for one device, never worked for the other, even after reboot... Have to do it manually. Yes go figure
EDIT: I suspected the new APK was already downloaded somewhere on the device, and it was indeed.
Located at the root of internal storage (usually under /storage/emulated/0) I found MagiskManager-v5.4.0.zip. Launched installation and all was set Might help others facing the same issue, without having to manually download the APK.
Happened to me as well, it turned out Magisk Manager didn't have storage permission granted, i did that and it worked.
Sent from my ONEPLUS A3000 using XDA-Developers Legacy app
Open apps-> magisk-> permissions and tick on storage, make sure its turned on.
That totally fixed it!
Many thanks!
Fixed a pain!
Thanks people.
I can't update magisk to v.15 please help.

That's very little to go on... Are you asking for help? In that case you need to provide a lot more details and a bunch of logs.

My hope was it is a known problem and there's a solution for that.
I will try another Rom. Perhaps it will work then. But thanks for your input.

can't R/w even with rooted phone

rooted with magisk and i'm trying to transfer a file into system/bin but when i click r/w in root explorer nothing happens and when i try to copy it from the sd card it says fail. Anyone else?
Make sure AVB verity is unchecked in magisk then reinstall from the app

If the pixel 4 is any like pixel 3 with its logical partitions you'll have to use magisk to add to system. Easy way download a magisk module. Then go to /data/adb/modules then the module you installed if u need to add to /system/app you might have to add the /app set permissions then add what is wanted set permissions then restart. easy way without having to make your on module you can always go to magisk thread an learn to make a module as well either way only way I've been able to do it on Android 10 which I reverted back to pie so much better in my opinion

Strange
That's the only thing I know that could cause you're issue
Android 10 requires you to so any system changes through Magisk in a "systemless" manner. As mentioned above, it needs to be in a module. If you can't do it yourself, ask for help from one of the devs. If it is a common task that others could benefit from, create a thread with the request and I am sure someone will come through...

I think it needs to be done "systemless" with a magisk module. Maybe if you ask @Tulsadiver nicely, he might be able to give you a template or even make you up what is needed. If so and it's possible others might have used for it you could share it.

You are welcome to try this. Put your file in the vrtheme/system/bin folder. Leave the system folder alone. This is untested.

BusyBox is the module I always use

Downloaded a module from magiskroot.net - safe?

So like a total dumbass I didn't check the source and downloaded a module (fde.ai) from magiskroot.net . Seemed to install fine, boot took a bit longer than usual, after boot the module was not listed in Magisk manager.
Is that site safe?
Thanks!
PS I guess I'm asking opinions about the specific site...
I would investigate and open the zip and look what it changes? Did you install it in recovery or in magisk?
I don't know that site.

In Magisk. I'm trying to search for added files in the system right now, nothing found so far. I have also opened the zip (just before your reply) but I'm not sure I'll be able to decipher...

a magisk module wouldn't change system files it'll just create a folder in data/adb/modules so look there for strange folders
