Oreo and LDAC support - OnePlus 3T Questions & Answers

Hi guys,
I have a question concering LDAC on OOS 5.0 or other custom roms.
I just bought me some 1000xm2 Headphones and thought i can just update my Phone to Oreo and will be able to get some high quality bluetooth music. But it looks like LDAC isnt working. Someone mentioned libaries are missing. U can choose it on the bt audio settings but it wont work.
So is there a workaround for this problem or any custom rom that supports LDAC?
Thx in advance

Hi,
Apparently LDAC codec in OP3T Oreo ROM is working, just it displays wrong information on developer settings
Just now I try my luck to find 1000XM2 but instead of that i found 1ABT, since that one is also LDAC capable so I tried that
Guess what, the Bluetooth codec show in developer settings is show wrong
aptx and aptxHD doesn't included inside the ROM, but LDAC does loaded (see the logcat I captured at attachment, first one is aptx and aptxHD can't load due to lib missing, second one is LDAC is indeed working properly)
But still I do hope that xda would bring this issue up since this is the serious matter that Qualcomm did put OnePlus 3 and 3T on aptx codec enabled device, but then they didn't implement due to "cause prohlem"? This sounds weird for me

Ok, thx for your answer, will try it 2morrow.
Cheers,

Is APT-X Working or Not?

Hey guys,
I'm running freedom os and recently got a pair of mdr-1000x's. The headphones support aptx and aptx-hd, as does the ROM. Is there a way to determine what codec is in use over bluetooth? Everything sounds amazing, just wanting to make sure I get the best bang for buck.
It's working for me. I have the LG-HBS-780 BT neckband set and was able to tell it works by trying it on 2 different devices. My Moto X Pure doesn't have AptX enabled but FreedomOS 2.9 does. The sound difference was incredible!! I don't have ARISE / Viper4Android installed, decided it wasn't needed.
also for me with m1bt philips
lastest beta 8 from oxygenos
developper option, network, lastest choice is support hd aptx/aptx, check if enabled

Yep there is noticeable difference! (Changed from Open Beta 8 to 4.1.5)

I'm assuming this toggle is available only on Beta 8? I'm on 4.1.5 Freedom OS and I'm not seeing it under dev->network.

My own MDR-1000x work fine in beta8 BUT when WiFi is also active might sometimes have lost packets (and sound cracks), that gets fixed if I disable WiFi.
Quality is definitely better than on default SBC but is still clearly inferior to a wired connection (as long as you are using a good FLAC as a source). So I am waiting for AndroidO and LDAC (which 1000x does support :good: )
If you're on an open beta > 8, or a Freedom CE build based on a >OB8 build it should be working. Stable Freedom is just based on the stable OOS builds and it does not work. I found a magisc module that added the drivers, but I wasn't convinced it worked right so I gave up on it.
If you use a catlog reader you can search for codec while you're playing audio through blutooth, it should say aptx or SBC. If it says SBC then aptx is not working.

Was able to look at the logs and see SBC. I'll look at the magisk module. Thanks for the heads up.

Aptx codec dont work on Oreo keeps reverting to SBC.

Is Aptx codec enable on Oreo?
Every time I change it it keeps reverting to SBC but my headphones are aptx HD compatible....any ideas?
That's because the Note 8 supports just Aptx and not Aptx HD

Thanks for your reply but not relevant because it should work fine hd or not....
And it's the same whith the Sony codec, none sticks and notice that when you change the codec in the developers zone and then you just start Bluetooth without any device paired it reverts to SBC automatically. Someone is able to change it?

In fact, at least for me, as soon as it connects to a paired device it auto selects the compatible codec.
For my MacBook pro it's AAC, for the Sennheiser Momentum is aptX, for the Bose SoundSport wireless is again AAC.

What BT device are you connecting to? For my Sony WH 1000x I have to select LDAC manually as it uses Aptx by default.
Edit

Did you try Developer Options.
I checked also I don't see BT codec option in the BT settings. Only available from Developer Options.
Edit: for LDAC I do get this option in BT settings so don't need to use Developer Options. Also Note 8 does not support Aptx HD.

Hi, after april update its working good....
Diference in quality sound is huge...thanks to who try to help me !
Do you have anything else connected to your phone via Bluetooth, at the same time? Like a Samsung Gear watch, Plantronics Headset, ...
If the second device is not aptx compatible the phone will stay in sbc on both/all devices.
I had the same problem but it got solved as soon as the Sennheiser Momentum was the only device connected to the phone by Bluetooth.
After disconnecting all other devices, stop then restart bluetooth. It should connect automatically to your headphones on aptx.
Hope this helps.
You can't enable it on a device that doesn't support aptx. if the device supports aptx it will be enabled automatically in developer settings. When you disconnect it will go back to SBC
You have to turn off the "Dual Audio" option in settings... Will work after that

aptx HD

Hi, I understand the P20 Pro hardware supports aptx and aptx HD butdoes this work out of the box or does a codec need to be installed? I can see it in the Bluetooth section of the developer options but I can't select anything but SBC.
Thanks

Does the option only change when connected to a compatible Bluetooth receiver? I thought my car receiver was compatible but if that's the case then I guess not.
I had the same issue with regards to Bluetooth defaulting to SBC, after some reading I discovered that it was possible to change the Bluetooth mode on my headphones by holding a button combination, it went from prefer connection to prefer sound quality and unlocked aptx and LDAC on my Sony MDR-1000X. So the P20 Pro is definitely capable of it without any additional codecs.
Maybe read the manual for your device and see if it also has something like this.

I have this problem too.
On my OnePlus One i can change the audio codec, it should not depend on the bluetooth headphones connected. My Mpow Wolverine sounds way better with the One Plus One, on the P20 pro it sounds like sh*** ;any suggestion?
I have headphones that are both SBC and AAC compatible.
Paired to my pixel, aac works great.
Paired to p20, it sutters, skips and is stuck on SBC
I noticed when there is an actual icon just after the Bluetooth device name of my headphones that says 'APT-X', in the phones Bluetooth settings.... My previous Huawei P9 didn't have it or support it so did surprise me a little as I didn't look into it when switching.
On the P20 you can change the BT codec (in developper settings) but the settings doesn't stay...

Yes, same to me.

Same **** here, guys.
PowerBeats 3 are in AAC with Pixel and S9, but in SBC with my P20 Pro. And I also hate that EQ is not avaliable.
I have emailed Huawei, but those dumb idiots are asking for IMEI and system version... They don't realise, that it's a wide problem....

Contentear Huawei Team, I have purchased my P20 Pro during a first sales week at your store in Singapore. In general, I am happy with it, but, I have COMPLETELY confused with your audio experience. PROBLEM: I own two pairs of headphones: Bose QuietComfort 30 and PowerBeats 3. I don't understand why I am not able to tweak EQ over the bluetooth! S7 was able to do it, old Sony Z2 was able to do it too, but 1000$ phone by Huawei with triple camera and AI can't provide damn equalizer! I don't need any processing by Dolby, I just want to add some bass, because I am lisening to EDM, not a classical music, I don't need a analytical audio presentation. Then, codec selection is broken! PowerBeats are not able to get their native AAC, and Bose are working in SBC mode. What a shame! I can't tweak audio, and I have to listen compressed nonsense. I didn't expect that I will have to deal with such problem in the 1000$ phone. Please, release the software update, I would like to have at least eq.

My Sony MDR100's use LDAC and sound great. They have a built in EQ profile that kicks in once they are powered on according to reviews. I could of sworn it was using APTX HD at first but I was mistaken.

Ah, I didn't know the P20 Pro supported LDAC.
Just got to wait for my Bose to sell on eBay now
Tried on a few different headphones here. Seems apt-X is working, AAC is not.
110 firmware.
My p20 pro is on order and not arrived yet, but what you should try is:
1. Clear bluetooth connection of remembered device
2. Enable Developer settings, go to settings->about phone->click on 'buid number' a bunch of times (8?? from memory)
3. Go to: Settings->developer settings->the bluetooth sections and select whatever you want to be the normal
4. Re-connect your bluetooth device. If its compatible then it will default to your previous selection.
At least, this is how it works on my S8, Zenphone 3 deluxe and Oneplus 3T, with my Sony WH-1000XM2 and audiotechnica headsetsand WI-1000X.
But they all have custom roms and i have never had a Huawei so im not 100% sure.
In theory the Bose QC 35 ii headphones support both SDC and AAC but I can't select AAC in the developer settings. Are others having the same experience?

Yeah just received my Anker SoundBuds Curve headphones and it shows aptX next to the connection in the bluetooth settings. I guess AAC isn't supported as it's not listed on Huawei's tech specs page- https://consumer.huawei.com/uk/phones/m/p20-pro/tech-specs/ I also don't see aptX LL on there so I supposed that's also not supported
I've changed nothing. Only installed .128 Firmware with funky Huawei. When I connect my Ultrasone Sirius Bluetooth Headset there is automatically a aptx-Icon near the name. Nothing to change in developer-settings. See my picture on instagram:

Change Bluetooth Codec

Hello guys !
I just updated my MIUI ROM from Android 8 to Android 9. Since I have this one, my Bose QC35 II connected via Bluetooth uses the SBC Codec, which delivers a bad quality comparing to AAC. I tried to change this via the developer options, but when I set to AAC it always comes back to SBC. When I was on Android 8, I had the AAC.
Do you know how can I change that ? I'm on MIUI 10.1.1.0 Global
Thanks a lot, hope my english is understandable
I didn't find a solution, always on SBC Codec which the sound quality quite bad. If anyone has a solution
Isn't Aac a iPhone/apple thing....?
Anyways you can force a specific output mode in developers settings.
My mi8 on global beta defaults to aptx when using my Bluetooth headset.

No it isn't, it's a classical codec. I tried to force it, but it always goes back to SBC, here is my problem !
What I meant is that aptx is superior in every way.
But I guess the BT device your using is aimed at iphones and doesn't support aptx ?
Maybe try and switch to global beta and check if the issue was fixed.

Same thing on my mi mix 2s. While everything works just fine with an Nvidia shield and Android pie. So it's xiaomi fault. I'm Very disappointed because SBC is really inferior.
Try developer mode!
Already tried on dev mod, doesn't change anything. When you set on AAC, the phone simply doesn't care, hope it will be corrected in an update !
Now I am having the same problem and couldn't find any solution. In Developer options, my arrangements revert to old ones when close, they don't stick. I have Android 8 MIUI 10 Xiaomi Mi6. Via Magisk Manager, I flashed codecs and necessary modules to my phone but nothing's changed. when i connect my JBL Free to my phone, SBC logo right next to the earphone's name is there. Before I lose my mind, someone please help me! I am inexperienced to this complex Android world :crying:
I'd start by posting in the correct MI6 subforum
You can use PowerAmp, it can force better audio codec (by cable and BT).
Have you tried it ? It doesn't work
Just a quick update, since the last update 10.2.3.0, i've got the AAC when using my Bose QC-35 The sound quality is waaaaayyyy better than before. Thx Xiaomi !

I didn't receive BT fix with my new update and I dont believe I will I bought Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless Earbuds and I rarely have stutters thanks to aptX but if codecs were good I would have perfect connection with these earbuds.
I'm afraid you just have to turn on BT in order to change BT CODEC

APTX-HD for Rooted N960F

Hi all,
Would like to check if there is any way of installing APTX-HD on rooted note 9?
I've tried multiple methods including APTX for Android Oreo & Pie from Magisk.
May i know if anybody has gotten it to work?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you very much!

From what i heard APTX-HD will not work correctly on a Note 9! As it needs to send tons of bluetooth packets it will skip cut out etc, that's why the devs did not include it! LDAC is the best, stick with that codec!

I have several apt-x HD supported devices and I never got it to work. LDAC support is fantastic, as is standard APT-X.
Using sony WH-1000xm2 when selecting SBC, AAC, APT-X or LDAC from developer options will briefly stop the sound whilst it jumps to that codec, no such luck with APT-X HD. I don't believe that the codec is actually implemented on the Note9.
AptX-HD was supported on the Oreo version of the Note9.
I have two Level Pro headphones and after the Android Pie update lost the UHQ audio function from the Level app.
If you looked, you got LDAC and SBC, no AptX or HD.
Then I submit a bug report and they only brought back AptX on the latest version.
I think Samsung it's just trying to push their new Buds as the Level brand is being discounted in many markets.
Also Video Pro Mode was available on the Note9 and removed on the Pie update.
Now I can add my wife had the S8 Plus and she lost the UHQ audio from her Level app.
She went back to Apple at this time as they have better codec support.
Personally I am planning to get the Xperia that has 4K screen and yes, a long list of audio codecs and features.
Samsung keeps playing games, Qualcomm still supports Apt LL and HD, the hardware supports it but it is Samsung decision to remove it.
What's happening with aptx support in Android 10?
When Samsung removed AptX in Android Pie, I send an actual bug report with their support team, it was a pain, because they ask you to reset it then jump hoops.
At the end, they acknowledged that AptX should be "At least supported" because their line of Level headphones run on AptX and AptX HD.
Then I can say, with the next update, they added AptX to the list of supported codec.
Sony and many others are pushing LDAC for their headphones so probably just drop Samsung.

I'm on a Sprint Note9(Snapdragon) UI. 2.0. Android 10.
The big difference is AptX supports 16Bit 48KHz and AptXhd support 24Bits also 48 KHz.
Here screenshots.
