I need to know a few tips and tricks for extending battery life and better ram management. Someone please help
About the reply of app-ops.. I only use greenify for apps and sometimes I use fx file manager to just disable some apps which I think I won't be using so frequently for example, Domino's app.

I am using AEX 4.6 - 20171009 and these are the apps that I froze.
Amazon Shopping, BookMyShow, Domino's, Google Play Games, Hangouts, JioMusic, Paypal, Shareit.
Whenever I needed them, I just goto FX file explorer and UN-Freeze them I'ts kind of annoying sometimes, specially when you're in a hurry, but I didn't found any better solution for this (Because 1GB RAM, remember ).
Any better solutions are welcome

After using the gallery app and leaving the phone for a while, check the battery usage of the sensors by typing in *#*#4636#*#* in the dialer. Choose sensor usage and since last unplugged. See if the Gallery is in the list and see what time usage it has taken.
If the time is close to the time since you last used the Gallery then the sensor is unnecessary draining the battery.
WE NEED TO FLOOD SAMSUNG WITH TWEETS AND FACEBOOK MESSAGES WITH THIS PROBLEM! IT IS NOT ACCEPTABLE!!!
I Get this - Official Froyo JPO - UK CPW Unlocked I9000- CF Root, Voodoo lagfix
Using Just pictures instead, but annoying to say the least as i causes huge battery drain.
yes it happen to me too after upgrade tu JPO..........i really have no idea how to solve it and hope someone come with the solution ASAP!!!!! but hope Samsung will be the first.....my gallery usage is the same time with my phone time after the last charging eventhough i rarely or never use the gallery....!!!! so annoying that need to charge it everyday!!!!
deleting your gallery.apk and replacing it with the latest update from the market fixes it.
How to delete the gallery.apk can be found here on the forums.
Yes! this is crap. Without gallery running I get virtually 0 drainage in standby mode and with gallery on I'm losing about 4-5%/hr =|. I'm wondering if changing the gallery apk will help here...
thanx...but by deleting the gallery will i get a new gallery from the market with beautifull 3D interface like this one? but if it the only way....i got no choice right!!! my battery life is more important...hmmm

I could find gallery 3d developed by Rayman50? I installed the same. Still getting the same drain issue. Or are you talking of some other app?
can you give me some instructions onto how to remove the Gallery app, when ever I try to remove it it keeps saying it cannot find the file even though I'm in the correct directory /system/app/Gallery3D.apk

Use root explorer navigate /system/app from there delete gallery.apk. Restart your phone then install the same from market. Or use adb. I don't know the commands for it though. If someone could help!

Use root explorer or similar to delete the gallery.apk, delete all the cache related stuff it made ( search the forum ) and reboot your device, download the gallery3d app from the market and install, it fixed it for all of us who actually did it.

it refuses to delete, says it deleted but it's still there. i have root, using android mate, given it root access but i just cant delete the file. even in adb, it says the dir is read only
I also get this bug. Thanks for reporting it.
I think you can stop the bug by clearing the ram using the built in task manager and using a level 2 clear memory. I think it's working for me.
Any proper fixes? I really like using the built in Samsung gallery.
Edit: Doesn't work.
yup, had it unplugged for 10hrs 40 mins
the gallery is showing 9hrs 24 mins....WTF!!!!!!
my battery is on 6% turned it off and charing it right now!
I thought there was something really wrong with the battery life...now I KNOW!
Nice find ... Even killing it doesn't stop the use of sensor

does it give a big change after you did it or equal to the Eclair battery life????..and what is the time for your gallery usage after that???
Anybody come up with a solution for this?
Last night I reboot the phone and didn't use the standard gallery for 8 hours and guess what. The gallery drainage stopped. So I am looking for the other apps to replace the standard one.
I removed the Gallery3d.apk and .odex from the system/app folder.
I then rebooted and installed the Gallery 3D app from the market.
Now when I check the sensor battery usage, the gallery time seems to be about the same time I have actually been in the app. So so far, the problem seems solved.
This is a bit annoying especially since the gallery was one of the first things i used just after upgrading to this ROM. Not sure i like the idea of having to delete the bloody app just to get decent usage!

At least with a quick use I didn't find the market app any different, except it is in English and not in Finnish like I have set my phone.
Just make a backup of the original files and it's safe.
Hi all,
Was wondering if anyone experience jerky performances.
I have about 10 pages of apps installed mostly games and stock apps.
When I use advance app killer, usually i see stock apps eg. facebook, browser, ebook, etc.. When I kill them all, performance doesn't improve much.
If the 10 pages are the reason, any way to know which is running in background and sucking up resources?
The performance of your Gtab is jerky coz of the apps that run in the background even if you close them they restart.. u cn use startup auditor app to increase performance... if all fails hard reset nd install only required Apps not the apps u don't use but run behind nd eat up RAM nd battery

a certain app may be using up too much background resources. try uninstalling the culprit. detct it by trial and error
I was in a similar situation until I last had to factory reset my Tab due to the whole issue with Google Apps Google Accounts not having access to Google Checkout on the Android Market.
Installed over 100 apps on my first day with the Tab (over-excited, I know ), and realized that my Tab started to lag when opening the app drawer. The problem became most apparent when I shut down or rebooted the Tab; it would literally take minutes to boot up, and often it would freeze and force close my launcher several times in a row.
I chalked it down to having too many apps, but later read that many apps start themselves up on boot even if they had no reason to (e.g. Amazon, Aldiko, etc.)
I've since only installed apps that I would really use throughout the day, but would you guys say that so long these apps do not run on startup (say I disable them using the Autostarts app), I can install a hundred or even two hundred apps without the boot up lag?
So there's no way to see which app is running in background and % memory used, similar to windows task manager?
When I use Advanced task killer, are those 'apps shown' considered as background apps or are background apps invisible?
From my RAM manager, I see like 180+ to 200mb out of 400+mb. I think that's the remaining RAM ?
Anyone knows the stock RAM out of the box?
It might be because carriers pre load crap on them

Installed the free startup app and found the culprits ... GAMELOFT games. They are huge in size and think they eat up the memory in background/at startup.
After disabling, all back to normal.

Why on earth would you want to detect it by trial and error when there is plenty of apps you can use to find it specifically?

Why does my launcher pro plus v0.8.3 often restarts after i done playing a game ???? It happened lately after i moved some apps into my sd card...it really annoys me when i want to change to another game, making me wait for the apps to load...and adding to the ignorance is the apps in the sd card will take about a minute or 2 to finish loading...Any ideas to how to solve this problem ??? Your help is highly appreciated !!!!

It's not so much of a problem, as it is a feature, of Android itself. It's called Memory Management! And if your game is using a lot of RAM, it is bound to terminate some background applications, in this case, your third party launcher. It might help though, if your launcher app is NOT on sdcard. Also, ensure it is the primary launcher. Beyond that, we can't really mod our phone for more RAM But we can give CM7 a shot...

hmm....after hearing ur advice...i went n find some other launchers and i stumbled on to "Zeam" which i believe is a light-weight launcher...but the "problem" still remains the same...issit because i got too much apps installed???
On ADW launcher u have the ability to keep it running all the time. Just by turning on the option System Persistent under General Behavior-->System Settings that would avoid the launcher from closing
Try that one

It's not about how many apps you have installed. It's more about how many apps are actively running background services...

Why does the Facebook app always seem to be running in the backgound?
Even after a reboot, the app is running - usually 2 diferent services - media upload and notification checker or something.
With an X8, there's not much spare RAM, so to have facebook take up anywhere from 8mb to 16mb of ram is a problem for me.
Is there a way to stop this background activity without having to go to Applications>Running Services>STOP all the time, or, is there an alternative to the facebook app that behaves itself better?
Thanks
Impster

Yes it's old bug I try to log off from facebook but it's always back to running services. I fix that with unistall, if I need fb I install it direct from SD:cyclops:
I just uninstalled both facebook and twitter, and will try seesmic for a while.

Ohh yes, I forgot. I use SEESMIC on gcr and after log off there are not backgreound apps from seesmic :good::laugh:
What I do is I "freeze" the app.
That means the app is installed , but it can not run in the memory.
When I need the app again , I simply "defrost" it.
That way I am able to use the app whenever I want and I can simply and quickly switch between Freezing and Defrosting.
I use this application free on Google Play called "Chef's Freezer"

Hi bros,
I have noticed an interesting thing happen here, always that i flash a new rom (with root access) and freeze some apps like google+, yahoo! weather, talkback and Google talk i see lags and freeze on S Advance. I only freeze safe apps, almost no system things. I freeze the same apps that everybody do to make an smartphone smoother and smarter.
I never saw force close or error message, just lag and freeze, but freeze apps was not to just let the phone lighter, stopping with default applications not use and thus avoiding freezes?? Why I'm noticed the opposite thing that i should?
Today I flash LQ4 again, and i'm thinking to uninstall this apps instead of freeze. What you think, guys?
Thanks!
