Fingerprint Scanner: A home button? - Huawei P10 Questions & Answers

Good day! I'm curious if the fingerprint scanner defaults as the home button when on-screen navigation bar is enables?
I'm on VTR-L29C636B171 right now and I did not notice this on VTR-L29C636B166

I'm on B171 of the dual sim model and for me the fingerprint reader is completely disabled and acts just like a fingerprint reader. However I have noticed that the reader acts like a home button when the screen is off and password/pin disabled.

The sensor is P10s biggest feature besides the camera but it works only as Homebutton when the Navbar is disabled...but why would someone enable the Navbar when the sensor works so awesomely perfect?

One tap takes you one step back, long tap takes you to home screen and a swipe to left or right gives you multi tasking option. Hope that helps

Map the Fingerprint Sensor

Hi guys! Would anybody know if we can remap the gestures of our Fingerprint sensor?
I mean it already supports swipe down to open the Notification Bar, so can we somehow map it to be a hlme button on press, and maybe back button on left/right swipe?
I know it might be a novelty feature, but it wouldn't it be cool if we can do that?

Tried it, and it works!
I hope it would have supported side swipe, but it doesn't. Is it a hardware limitation perhaps?

Fingerprint Scanner works as Home Button

Hi!
Yesterday I've got an update for my P10 (VTR-L09C432B180)
and my fingerprint scanner when the navigation bar is enabled with a single tap works as a home button, it takes me to the home screen. Is it normal?
Just checking mine L29. Acts the same, so I guess it is normal. Or global bug ?
Nice. i actually want this behaviour. would prefer that i could use the fingerprint scanner "one button" option at the same time navigation bar is activated though.
Didn't have that in Firmware 179 and neither in Oreo-Beta. Must be a global bug in 180.

Any way to disable the fingerprint button when using software navigation keys?

As the topic says, I find it annoying that the fingerprint reader still works as a home button when on screen software buttons are used. I tend to accidentally touch it when in landscape mode, or when reaching to hit the back button.
Wouldn't it be nice to have it act purely as a fingerprint reader and nothing else in this mode?
Any news on this issue? After the latest update the button even acts as home button when trying to add fingerprint in apps (ex. PayPal) . So instead of adding the fingerprint, the program exits ;-(
I wish there were a way to just have it as a fingerprint reader when navigation bar is active. It gets real messy when you enable app lock and have to use it to unlock the app but it's also a home button so the app closes as soon as it is unlocked.
Totally agree on this one it pisses me off lol.
I keep pressing it by accident lol..
Didn't gaming mode offer hardware button disabling? Might be able to be extended to software.
With that in mind how would you get out of a non responsive app?

P20 Pro Virtual Navigation - Counter Intuitive...

Does anyone else find the Huawei P20 Pro's "virtual navigation" to be counter intuitive? The off-screen navigation controls make no logical sense.
Tapping the fingerprint sensor = back button
Holding the fingerprint sensor = home screen
Swiping from right to left across the fingerprint sensor = view open apps
Who designed this? Why is there no ability to customize it to a more logical function?
If it were my choice, this would be how it operates:
Tapping the fingerprint sensor = HOME
Holding the fingerprint sensor = RECENT APPS
Swiping from right to left across the fingerprint sensor = BACK
I feel like this makes much more sense for efficient usage? Does anyone else feel the same?
When I first used it I couldn't get the hang of it. Tried again and gave it a couple of days and once it clicks it's great.

Nice topic, can you use any fingerprint remappers kind of apps, and tell if that fixed the issue or not ?
I tried All In One Gesture but it looks clunky.
I will love to have Gesture across the screen rather than limited to the Button or the Navigation Dock....
I think the default gestures are very nice build. The ones I use more often is the ones that are easiest, and quickest to perform; "back" and "home". And the one I use most seldom is the hardest to do, and thats "recent apps". But I guess we all use our phone in a different manner, so customisation should be allowed.
I don't mind this arrangement but I do miss the ability to quickly double tap recents to open the last app you were using. I used that that a lot..

Exactly same issue for me
I use "Back Button" that creates some floating buttons for me on the right side. There you can double click to change to the reason app. Used them on my s8+ when hiding the on screen buttons.
Screenshot added.

I tried a couple but they all had a very long delay to respond after trying the gestures.

Were nav bar virtual buttons enable when using fingerprint remapper ?

Yup. Other than that I find the gestures just fine to use. Don't know why the op has the default assumption that their idea for a setup is more logical. Both are just arbitrary choices at the end of the day, and either setup would take some time to commit to muscle memory.

Slider appears on pressing and sliding on home button

Hi,
I just noticed that if normal navigation buttons are used a slider will appear if you press home button and slide to the right side much like the same way the slider of the Google pixel 3 in which we can scroll through open apps but the problem is this slider does nothing
Sent from my S10 using Tapatalk
Hi, in short - you are wrong... Yes, the slider appears when you slide your finger over the home button, but it does scroll through recent apps. There is another function also, you can slide your finger from the home button to the back button - it works like a double-tap on the recents button, try it.
Actually I was using task changer in good lock so I have different recent apps layout and it wasn't working there that's why I thought it was broken. Thanks for clarification.
