Hey, everyone, I need some help:
On my SM-920G, I re-installed stock 6.0.1 (last official update before 7.0) and, now, I don't have access to the network (says emergency calls only). IMEI and serial number are both intact. What can I do to regain access to my network? I know it's not a motherboard problem because it happened after flashing stock software. I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE YOUR HELP.
Thank you,
VinceLupe

I would remove and reinstall your SIM card and check your APN settings.

Did you install the right firmware for your region? You should check that or flash right modem file. If all else fails use kies to restore phone to factory or flash a custom rom and check if everything works.

So, I actually had to have an IMEI change... Long story - but, my question now is: is it possible to return to stock (completely stock) and NOT lose my IMEI number? I've heard some people say, "yes," and O be heard some people say, "no." Is it possible?

I don't think there is any risk of losing IMEI if you flash stock with odin, but if you have root then firstly take an efs backup, just in case, efs is where your IMEI is stored.

If you have root then in the root folder you will find a folder called efs. Just copy it and save it to your SD card or your computer. If you have custom recovery then you can save it from the backup option but I guess that won't help much if you flash stock with odin then it will remove your custom recovery. There are also some apps on the play store but I never used them, I use the first method.

Yeah, I'm just on stock, so that won't work - but, now I have another issue:
So, here's what happened... I got my IMEI changed, and all was good. But, then I realized that my phone was rooted. I tried to flash magisk to have magisk installed, and then my phone wouldn't boot up. Afterwards, I flashed stock to restore official device status, but when I did so, I realized that my network wasn't working. My IMEI (clean IMEI) is still showing, but I DO NOT have any access to my network and can't search the web or anything. What could be the issue, and what is the easiest way to fix it?

Did you flash the correct firmware? The same region as it was when it was working? Flashing a stock rom from a different region sometimes causes this and you need to flash the right one or at least the 'modem' file of the right one to get it working. Or you could use Samsung Kies software to completely recover your phone to its original state when it was bought. Also, What do you mean by saying changed IMEI? Did it not show it correctly or got corrupted and you fixed it? or you changed it completely to a different one from the original?
If you have a good IMEI just call your provider and give them your IMEI and your sim card numbers.

CodeNameRedNeck,
So, I have a good IMEI number, but I cannot register the network service. It tells me "Emergency Calls Only" even though it shows a signal in the top right hand corner. Are you saying that I just need to call TIGO (I am in Bolivia) and register my IMEI number as well the SIM card numbers - or, could it be that there is an even deeper issue? Also, which SIM card numbers are you talking about? Thank you, my friend.

Mufrad,
I completely changed the IMEI to a clean one because, apparently, when I traded for the Note 5 (I am in Bolivia, and that's what people do here), the original IMEI was put on the blacklist. So, now I have a completely different IMEI that is clean (unreported), but I do not have any network access at all - furthermore, when I access the menu using *#0011#, it says "IMEI Status: NG" under IMEI Status. I'm not sure if it's a software problem? I have a friend looking at the phone, but I do not have any idea how it's going because he still hasn't been able to fix it.

When my son switched from an iphone to Android we had to call AT&T and give them those numbers before it worked. I had an Xperia phone that I had to do the same with. There are apps that can read your sim card number. It should also be printed on your sim card.

Hiya!
Hate to be a pest, i did use the search button, but to no avail!
I got a used i8190n that works perfectly fine in all aspects except for registering for a mobile network! and that is for calls and sms services only, as the mobile data, 2g and 3g both work well!
there are similar cases posted on the forum, but none that replicate my case exactly: i did try different roms, different sim cards, mobile data works but no calls or sms! total mistery!
any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks a bunch, cheers!
Found one...
BUMP!
Tried a few ROMs from different regions, none of them show any signs of improvement!
Funny enough, all of them display 'Not connected to network' message when trying to place a call, all the way until i started flashing different modems, and all of them started showing the dialling screen for a split second, and then display the 'call ended' screen, but that only happens with the XXALL3 modem!
any help would be greatly appreciated from here, any better modems out there?
Thanks!

hi
the phone is carrier unlocked, as per the service menu, and according to the imei it's in the the UK region, i tried flashing Vodafone, EE, O2 UK roms and stock generic, even an asian one, just in case, no success!
upon reading some more, i looked into the efs folder (and made a copy of it), it's missing the nv_dat etc files, any idea if i can just get an efs folder off another phone and copy it in, or how would i go around all those files missing? i tried the 'NV rebuild' didn't help either!
thanks a million!

Its not advised to (fully) replace the efs partition (folder/files) with one from another device. The efs partition contains your IMEI, among other vital data, which is unique. Since you have a backup (make sure its a proper one or better few), you might try to replace the efs partition with one from another device (I8190N) to see if thats the cause of your problem (restoring backup if not). However, you have to change the IMEI manually after replacing the efs partition with the one thats initially assigned to the device.
great stuff, thanks!
btw, when i said i backed-up the efs folder, that's a 13kb efs folder, which is no good as far as i know
googling for an efs folder for i8190N brings me here first, and than here
and none of them really work for me, i tried the modemfs file, no luck.
any idea where i can find a good i8190N efs folder and, if the swap works, how can than edit my IMEI into it?
thanks!
And again...
dunno what am i doing wrong, got a i9100p Galaxy S2 off ebay again, and again, as soon as i plug my o2 sim card in it, same story! plenty of 3g but no voice/text service! went on and got the S2 totally stock and got a new sim card from o2, no luck! the mystery persists, any ideas at all would be greatly appreciated!!

did you try that new sim card at the O2 store?
yep, tried a EE card in it, no result. the new o2 sim didn't work either, so it's gotta be the phone!

I cant believe there is no solution to this problem. I can't believe the risks of rooting and customizing a phone may be so great... it *IS* possible to definitely brick a device after all...
So i suppose I am yet another guy who lost their phone playing with these #¤%"#¤% ROMs on XDA.
I'd like to know how your story ended.
Hi,
Well my device which is S5 mini g800f working fine, since I have changed the firmware which was old like build on july so I tried to installed latest, but now there is emergency call showing, also I have tried manually and automatically to register on the network but it says unable to register to the (---network). I did it coz my device was not showing LTE network. However my sim supports the 4g and was working on S4 i9505. I have searched on Google and look out many threads on XDA but no success until now.
The biggest mistake was I didn't looked the firmware which was already there and was running with 3g support. I have tried these EUR-G800FXXU1ANL1-20141226162921, SER-G800FXXU1ANG1-20140709112536, MAT-G800FXXU1ANI3-20141218172328. Then I have installed Custom Lollipop but no success was there too.
So now any pro's here who can understand my problem ? My imei is showing, is there any procedure where I can put the imei and it will let me know what was installed on stock :crying:
Sorry for being noobish..
Please any buddy give me suggestions that what should I do ? Or should I look in the specific section of XDA forums ?

Its is mentioned mate what I have written, I said my imei is showing that by dialing *#06# I can see it, because there is a problem where the efs folder corrupted or gone you cant see imei or imei appears to be in these digits 00000 especially by installing custom roms. Anyways my only motive is that I know the imei and how ever I can see it too, so is there any procedure where I can put the imei to the website and see what was installed on stock. Because I dont have the box so I dont know which firmware was there when I installed another rom to get LTE, because it was working properly as I said in my earlier post.
Problem is due the baseband I am pretty sure which is not matching, this is the reason because I cant connect to the network---error msg (Unable to connect).

The baseband firmware is included in the firmware packages that are available on sammobile (.tar.md5 files). If you flash the firmware package with Odin, also the baseband firmware (contained in modem.bin) will be flashed.
If you have problems with a newly flashed stock firmware that were not present with the original firmware it might be because of one of the following reasons:
You flashed the wrong firmware. I don't think that the version name of the original firmware is stored somewhere. Instead check sammobile for the correct one: select the correct phone model and your country. EUR, SER (for Russia), MAT are country codes, choose the correct one for your country, the search function on sammobile will help you with that. You can also try Kies for restoring the firmware. Maybe that is able to determine the correct firmware according to the IMEI or some other information stored on the phone.
Maybe your EFS partition was changed and corrupted. The EFS partition is the partition that contains the IMEI and other information like calibration files that are specific for your device. If any of the files in this partition is damaged, the phone might not behave correctly. If you flash another firmware the EFS partition normally is not changed.
Your hardware is defect.
I guess that you simply flashed the wrong ROM. Otherwise the problem will be hard to fix.

My IMEI is not blocked...
Could be a damaged NV file. If you're clean imei and everything that would typically indicate damaged software to me. Have you tried flashing stock firmware to the phone? That might help repair the damage, afterwards perform a factory reset and wipe cache. A .qcn file written over a smart card usually fixes those connectivity issues. Just some ideas.

I understand your situation now. As far as I know there is not a way to recover your EFS. I could be wrong. I have heard of others getting their EFS back after flashing official firmware. You may be out of pocket on a repair. Good luck to you.

I am sure Samsung can fix it. You will have to pay though. You could also try searching for efs recovery because you might get lucky. I do not know a whole lot about it but from what I have seen, if flashing official firmware does not fix it you are out of luck. I am not sure about future releases of ROMs that may fix it.

5- Fixing EFS by repairing it using z3x box.

Hello
I recently lost my s10 and now got my hands on a new one (exact same model)
I thought i was smart and restored a TWRP backup from the lost phone on the new one
I guess the mistake was that there was also the efs partition included in the backup
The rom (newest beyond) works without problems but the sim card is not recognized and baseband and IMEI both show unknown
so i flashed the original samsung firmware with odin but even then i have baseband and IMEI unknown
Did i just screw my new s10 or does anyone have an idea?
any help much appreciated
Anyone has an idea what I could try?
Or did I really kill my phone for good
My guess is that you may have wiped out the new phone specifics, such as IMEI and other things. I'm not sure if you can recover that in some way, or if you need to just find a way to get your old IMEI back. I would probably try to restore my old IMEI if I can (see if you can identify the old one from your carrier's website or something, for example).

There are ways, but they are not allowed to be discussed here on XDA. I've seen Youtube videos that cover it as well.
