hi...
all of the sudden, my fingerprint sensor stopped working...
the "fingerprint ID" option is missing from the settings menu as well...
phone is not rooted... it wasn't updated recently and shows no pending system updates available...
it runs emui 5.0.1 with NEM-L21C432B352 build number...
i've already tried factory reset but the problem wasn't solved...
what can i do?
is there any huawei hidden menu that i could access via phone app?
any help is more than welcome...
in the mean time, i've cleared the cache via reboot menu (pwr off, holding the volume up while booting to enter the menu)... and all of the sudden, the option of "fingerprint id" reapearred in settings...
i don't know if clearing the cache helped or not - but the damn thing works again (at least for now)...
before that i have already tried clearing the cache directly in storage settings (the usual way of doing that) but that didn't change a thing...
and now it doesn't work again
nor the setting exists... weird

seems this is causing issues and fixing on its own.
check if the clearing cache helps again if not, I may try to help with dload but this is strange if it does behave this way on its own without any chanegs.

i did all the clearings of the cache i can with the unrooted device... last night it worked again, and this morning it's not working
for what it's worth - the last update was about a month ago (that smaller one with only security patches i suppose) - so i assume it's not the problem with any of the updates...
i just hope that the fingerprint sensor didn't get a loose connection on the cable inside the device... although, the device didn't fell nor it was damaged in any way...
btw - how can i do the offline installation of the firmware with the unrooted device? i suppose i have to download the full OTA package and put it in some folder so the device recognizes it when i go in the offline installation mode...

Yes, refer dload method given in my signature for quick steps.
Yours could be hardware issue as well.
thanks for all the help
i will try to make an offline update or something... i just hope this ain't a hardware issue (although the device is still under warranty - but replacing it would be the last option)
@shashank1320 - i've tried the dload method but all i get is an "Software install failed" error...
what i've done and tried:
- created "dload" folder on internal memory (i don't have an external sd card)
- put "update.zip" there (tried with both full package and smaller one from the server)
- tried also with unpacked files from the zip (update.app, etc...)
but everytime i'm getting the above error...
is it because i'm trying to flash the same firmware version as already installed on the device?
note:
the device is not connected to the computer while i'm doing that

You need sd card. Internal memory wont work (for a glitch it worked for me on 5C but that is something i or someone can not prove)

tried with SD card as well... same thing
now i'm starting to suspect that the fingerprint sensor cable got loose somehow... sometimes the settings app gets stuck for a bit, like it tries to identify a missing sensor/device...
i'm trying to find out what size are those two screws at the bottom... Torx T2 or T3? (on youtube disassemble video - people say both, so i'm not sure)

Not sure on this buddy. Will advise you to visit Service centre if its in warranty rather messing yourself as if they come to know that screw was opened, they may void warranty

i know... but as i've seen on the video, the 5c is easy to open and the sensor cable is easy to access...
i'm just waiting for the screwdrivers to arrive and i'll post the results here...
visiting service centre is the last resort - my nerves are more precious

My p10 was just got back from warranty claim for broken screen. When i turn it on, there was this menu asking to recalibrate fingerprint sensor because the sensor was just replaced (not inputting new fingerprint). It was unclear how i should do it at first, however after few attempts it was supposedly asking me to rotate the phone while the finger resting on top of the sensor.
Too bad, i think my first few failed attempts may have miscalibrated the whole sensor.
Anyone knows how to get back into that menu?

I replaced a broken display on a P10 VTR-L29 and the fingerprint button is not working, everything else is. At first I though the display is faulty, but now I have doubts since the fingerprint option on the menu is just not there. I re-flashed the same version of the firmware (B369) via TWRP and the problem persists. I may have to try a factory reset.

So this is how it ends when noobs messing with phones they don´t understand.
-You can unlock bootloader by paying some bucks to DC phoenix.
When you have no fgingerprint sensor options enabled it points that:
- the fingerprint sensor is broken
- the fingerprint sensor is not conected right
Hi alll
I had the same problem after replacing my screen.
I used Quick tuneup, and since the fingerprint sensor work correctly.

Sorry bro, my fault, i thought you are the one who asked before you.
You didnt say anything about your problem just asked if there is a solution and that you cannot unlock bootloader. With this info no one is able to help you. But anyway:
1. method:
-Remove existing fingerprints
-do a factory reset
-add a new fingerprint (when finger not scaned properly try to push a little bit harder on the sensor and rotate the finger)
-After the new fingeprint is scaned it should work well
2. method:
-after you recieve OTA notification (every month) go to settings/system updates/ there are three dots in upper right corner and select "get the whole latest package". This will download the whole firmware and perform a factory reset low level and this should work (if simple factry reset didnt work for you).
if this methods don´t work i will suggest you to go to phone service.

Dear All!
Here is one desperate guy turning to you because I see from some XDA posts, that you know about twrp and Huawei devices quite something.
At first, I don't want to waste your time. If you can help me, I will be happy to compensate it because I'm quite serious on this (and desperate as well).
I'm a beginner on Android rooting world, and in a nutshell, I enjoy just putting my Android device to the limits and enjoy using them to the fullest.
Bad thing, that I sometimes take too much risk and this time it ended with a (Soft) bricked phone.
The phone is from a rental company, that is why I'm so stressed to get it back and going.
So getting to the point:
Device: Huawei P10, VTR-L29C432B123
(C432, as I understand, is European version and it's important here)
Current state: Device is unlocked, rooted and with TWRP 3.1.1. (TWRP installed by this post https://forum.xda-developers.com/p10/development/testers-twrp-t3585256 and rooted by this post https://forum.xda-developers.com/p10/help/root-huawei-p10-p10-t3589946)
After installing TWRP and Rooting device I happily enjoyed using it for some time but
things went wrong when I started to try to put back Stock rom. (+ unroot and lock the device as well).
I tried multiple posts on the internet and didn't succeed. Unfortunately, FLashify and alike apps didn't work (or crashed after installing) on my P10, therefore, I turned to TWRP.
At first, I tried to install stock firmware downloaded from Firmware Finder but TWRP put out error:
E: unknown command [errno]
Updater process ended with ERROR: 9
Error installing zip '/external_sd/dload-draft/update.zip
Then I tried some other ways and turned to wipe section. Deleted Catches and data and then also system. This I believe f-ed things up and (of course) I could not boot anymore.
Can you instruct me on installing Stock rom for my device and get it back and running?
Thank you very much and please let me know if some more info is necessary!
@paratox @OldDroid @XePeleato @Dejan Kruljac Guys, if you could take a look on this and give me a direction - I would be enormously thankful!
As you found out Huaweis work a little different. I used this to rebrand my P10: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=72140996&postcount=10

You are welcome, but actually you must thank @crucky and @mankindtw !
I recently got the P10 after two Sony devices and a Samsung, so it was confusing for me as well. I am happy it worked for you .
Debranding is installing a rom for another region, another carrier or a change from dual to single sim (or the other way around).

edit : I have relocked my bootloader which leaves me no TWRP
Would this also work for me (VTR-L09)
I bought the phone from Vodafone Australia and I am stuck in erecovery right now, when I try to update through the dload using a FAT32 sd card the update.app won't even copy onto the sd card as it is larger than 4GB. When I try to do it using an sd card formatted to NTFS it stops at 5% and states "software install failed!"
Please help me on what to do... any help would be appreciated

I can assume that your memory is out of order.
I understood correctly, when you turn on the cubes? You did not flash board firmware?
Using Odin files to update a Samsung AT&T model will almost always result in a factory reset being performed, and I've also seen the same thing happen when trying to update via OTA zip in Recovery. I'm providing this package for anyone still using the S5, to be able to update software without needing to do a factory reset. I have personally verified that these files will perform the update without wiping any data. These files will update you to the Build/Baseband ending in QD1, Android 6.0.
My zips are compressed extra small for space and bandwidth savings. The default Windows extractor can't handle it, so you'll need a 3rd party tool like 7zip, WinRAR, etc.
Happy flashing!

Worked great..Thanks! But....
You are theman for this! I have a 900A AT&T and have struggled for days to get it unlocked, upgraded and working without tripping the secure software alert. I started with a 4.X maintenance OS, then rooted, SafeStrapped then pushed this update via ODIN and it worked. Now, the only issue i am having is apps crashing continuously. Started with google play and play services now spreading. I ASSUME this is due to apps not getting updated in the update to 6.X. Correct me if I am wrong. I have updated those via APKs along with others to new versions yet it still happens. Now its also Chrome, File manager etc. Is this maybe a code bug, or am I missing something here? Thanks again

No idea. Can't really diagnose app crashes - too many possibilities.
Also: hopefully you're now aware that you're not rooted any longer and (probably) can't ever root it again

Yeah I saw that, but thats ok. My biggest objective is to get it unlocked from AT&T so I can use it (this whole venture has just turned into a learning/fun toy to play with now) on my carrier. That is yet TBD. Any thoughts on that?

Please help me recover my data, and phone if possible.
I need the data, esp texts and notes, for both personal (some family members have passed on) and business.
I have a new Galaxy S21 and / or PC Smart Switch ready to receive data backup if we can evacuate it from the S5.
ODIN flash seems to pass but has 'Resizing Data' fail, and phone still won't boot past AT&T logo screen.
All web searches seem to say Factory Reset is my last option, but I don't want to lose the data.
Please share ANY advice on how I can recover the data.
-- More details:
Phone = SM-G900A Samsung Galaxy S5 AT&T
Use = pristine, never rooted, modded, or unfortunately backed up
Status = will not boot, passes screen 1 'Galaxy S5', screen 2 'Samsung script', then stops on screen 3 'AT&T globe logo'
More details = Used clean for ~7 years, then on day x, saw phone automatically complete a system update (green screen, sprockets, "your phone is updating"), which was surprising as it's years after it is no longer supported by AT&T. After that update, I continued to use the phone that day, but it then rebooted automatically and stuck on the AT&T globe logo.
Attempts to fix = soft reset, battery pull, can't get into SAFE MODE, can get into and out of recovery mode, found this firmware (THANKS @iBowToAndroid), used multiple ODIN (Odin3 v3.13.3_3B_PatcheD, Odin3 v3.14.1_3B_PatcheD) to flash it (my first Android flashing experience). On flashing process, ODIN on PC shows 'PASS' and log shows "<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 1 / failed 0)", but phone shows 'Resizing Data' failed:
"

THANKS for the quick reply, very much appreciate your help.
Am I really left with only a Factory Reset and then trying to use Data Recovery software to get ‘some’ data back?
I really don't want to give up on the data, so I'm still trying anything I can think of in research and repeated attempts.
More details:
I have tried the recovery mode 'Wipe cache partition' option before and after using ODIN.
I've tried doing it 'twice' per recommendation of some of the web advice I've read in trying to research this.
I've noticed that sometimes the colored highlight of the 'Reboot to bootloader' option then turns background green instead of usual blue, but I don't know why, or if that matters.
Still, the ODIN flash effort always returns the permission error, and the boot always sticks on the AT&T logo.
The string seems to indicate a 'user data' permission error?
Is there any way to debug the logic of the firmware or slog through the 'Recovery Logs' to determine and resolve the cause of the permission error?
When the problem began, I had an SD card and SIM card loaded.
I've since removed both in trying to address this, also per 'web advice'.
Any chance putting them back in helps somehow?
Any other options available via apply update from SD card or ADB?
Any way to setup the Android OS as a secondary drive to another machine to pull data out that way?
I've done similar things with Windows OS in PC environment, but I'm not seeing anyone trying that with Android.
If I am really stuck with factory reset, are there any data recovery programs I could try afterward that work with the G900A?
So far I've looked at Dr Fone, Tenorshare, EaseUS, FonePaw, and D-Back, and none seem to work with the AT&T model variant.
Maybe that's just because they don't have access to AT&T firmware available to install, but if I clear the stuck boot via FR, they then might be able to get some of my data back via drive scan - whatever data is not truly overwritten by the FR?

I own and run a business that performs SIM unlocking and other software-related services for mobile devices, so we see situations like yours quite a bit. And I don't know of anything else that you can do. From reports, we've heard that none of those "recovery services" actually work to recover any data, after a reset

Totally agree, and totally on me for not having a backup.
I was just foolish enough to not know yet how easy it is to back up.
Give me 10 minutes of life again now in this phone, I use Smart Switch to backup, and I'm off to a new phone, or even FR on this one and reload.
Now where did I put my Delorean...

Have you ever tried a 'combination key' approach to get data access?
As in...
Smart Switch on PC won't connect, but ODIN does show 'Added'.
I don't understand the granular details, but hoping you might...
Could we use both Smart Switch and ODIN in some combination sequence that would allow Smart Switch to pull the data off to a Smart Switch PC backup that I could then throw onto a new phone?
When it's in Downloading (firmware flashing) mode, a modem port is used. The modem port is also there when the device is booted up in Normal mode, but that's not useful for extracting any data off of it. I don't know what Smart Switch uses, but I would assume File Transfer (MTP) and/or ADB. And those aren't fully functional until the device fully boots up.
Do you have a screen lock on the device?

When it's in Downloading (firmware flashing) mode, a modem port is used. The modem port is also there when the device is booted up in Normal mode, but that's not useful for extracting any data off of it. I don't know what Smart Switch uses, but I would assume File Transfer (MTP) and/or ADB. And those aren't fully functional until the device fully boots up.

No lock on device, just swipe to go from 'lock screen' to home screen, prior to this boot problem obv.
One of the data recovery sw that I tried (EaseUS I think) did reach a screen asking me to enable USB debugging to continue, but I don't think I can do that without booting up.
I 'think' I remember that screen saying something like 'MTP device' connected, when it asked me to do that.
Any way to sneak into MTP mode from that?

Any 3rd party software will require ADB to be enabled. Smart Switch is the only one that *might* work just over MTP, but I'm pretty sure MTP doesn't fully load until the device is booted. Even if it did, you would likely need to allow on the popup message. Does the phone show up as a device/drive when it's plugged in while sitting on the AT&T logo?
I think you're asking "does the phone show up as a device/drive" in something like a windows file explorer, and the answer is unfortunately no, or at least not that I've found yet - I've tried several times now, and I'm still trying any combinations I can.
For now...
I can get EaseUS to show 'MTP USB device' per the pic attached in my last, but can't really get it to connect past that point, as it asks for USB Debugging, which it appears I can't do due to stuck in boot loop.
Smart Switch seems to try to connect for awhile, then says it failed to connect, so I think I'm then left with 'Samsung Smart Switch Emergency Software Recovery' (PFA).
Do you have experience using it?
Do you know if it could work to reload the firmware / OS without wiping the data?
AT&T Advanced Technical Support guy says it gives you an option to choose whether or not using it resets the phone (wipes your data), so he thinks (hopes) that would work, but he didn't sound certain at all.
I understand your point on the pop up message user prompt for File Transfer Mode. I used that mode many times in the past, so I'm hoping it might default on the phone so we wouldn't need to answer the pop up prompt to reach that status , but I'm obv not sure about that.
Per the speculation in my last, do you know of any combination approach we might use to get the desired result, like maybe... use ADB somehow to change 1 parm value to reach MTP mode, then use that progress step to enable Smart Switch to connect so we could offload the data?
Thanks again for your help
1. MTP is the same as File Transfer. So when the phone is turning on, it starts loading that connection. You might see "MTP USB Device" or something similar in your Windows Device Manager
2. But if the phone never shows up as a device/drive (would show up under "Portable Devices" in Windows Dev Man), then it's not loading fully - and it normally doesn't do that until it boots past the carrier splash screen.
3. Even if it did boot fully and showed up as a device/drive, the MTP pop-up prompt shows up every single time you connect the device. There's no way around that. So the device would show as empty, with no files or folders, until you tapped "Allow" on the popup.
4. No, there's nothing else you can do to turn on any other connection modes

Device Manager does show an entry for the phone connected via USB cable:
Under 'Disk Drives' as
SAMSUNG MZMTE256HMHP-000MV
Under 'Universal Serial Bus Controllers' as
SAMSUNG Mobile USB Composite Device
Please tell me that helps us somehow?
Hi everyone,
Yesterday after pulling mi phone out of my pocket I found it with this message on the screen: "Can't load Andoid system. Your data might be corrupted. ..."
The only options are try again and Factory data reset.
I have tried now everything I could possibly imagine and find online but nothing worked.
Is there any way I can copy my pictures of the phone, from recovery mode via adb for example?
I could also imagine to updating the phone via adb sideload but I can't find a newer OTA then the one I have so it would not update.
Also I could not find a way to boot in safe mode which I think could be another option.
I hope you can help me.
Thanks
Hello,
My sister has that problem also.
You need to put out the SIM card. Do a factory reset, just connect a Google account to get the updates from Android One and install all the updates till September patch without the SIM card... Then put the SIM card in phone and restart.
Normally it's ok. By my sister works the phone now perfectly.
Good luck

Unfortunately my phone the xiaomi mi a2 doesn't have a sim card slot ... so no sim card. That means to my understanding that all the data is saved on the internal storage that will be deleted with the factory data reset....
Unfortunately due to how Android uses File Based Encryption, your data is effectively lost. Im sorry.
I had once faced this issue too.
As far as my experience goes — there are no way for us to fix this random occurrence. It rarely (extremely) happens, so it makes the situation much worse as it is akin to a ticking time bomb waiting to take down all of your precious data. Till this day I am still wondering what triggered the data to be "corrupted".
My advice is to make use of a backup solution. Whether DIY (simple FTP server on your desktop), or using a cloud solution (Google Drive, Google Photos (free if willing to sacrifice original photo quality)). Having a periodical backup can minimise the damage you would have to deal in the event of data corruption happening again

Thanks for that that honest "bad news". :-/
I spend all day trying to fix the problem and it is hard for me to give up.
So you think there is no way around it?
I will still try to wait until tomorrow if someone has an idea I guess and if not delete...

SIM card is the card to call, SMS and have 4G..
Not a external storage, mi a2 doesn't have it.
Try to restart the phone without a SIM card. By my sister it was that problem, and the phone run on android 8 with the issue. Need to update to android 9.
Hope you can fix it.

Sorry, apparently I was too tired when I read your reply and my brain replaced sim card with sd card
Never the less I tried now to restart without the sim card but it still boots to the same error.
When you said "Do a factory reset, just connect a Google account to get the updates from Android One and install all the updates till September patch without the SIM card" did you mean by choosing the option factory data reset? This will lead to total data loss right? Or did you mean using a different method?
I think with 10.0.14 my phone runs on the newest version that's why I could not run an update via adb sideload which I hoped could do the trick...
Yes, you need to do option 'factory data reset'. All data will be lost, no other options to fix this issue. Sorry.
Then do the steps I said in previous posts. And restart phone a couple of time without and with SIM card.
Normally it will be fixt and phone runs good.
Good luck!

That was the only solution for my sister's phone. And now it works very well. I hope for you to.

All data is gone but the phone works again
I left the sim card inside and it still worked fine.

Again i am sorry. I understand how it feels to lose precious files. [emoji17]
Yes there is virtually nothing can be done. Due to how File Based Encryption works, your key is also encrypted. (yes FBE kind of encrypts the device twice). When you boot into TWRP for example, it would ask for the decryption key (usually your PIN). As for my past Corruption issue, TWRP keeps saying the entered key as incorrect. Until the key part is correct, we cannot get a copy of /data partition (nandroid) to tinker with it later on.
When this Corruption occurs, it effectively lock us out from our data. Even using TWRP won't cut it out. Unfortunately I myself is not expert enough on this matter as the fact that this happens out of blue kind of point out to a flaw with the Android itself. Fortunately it's rare, but i take no risk and subscribed to Google One ever since.
I do wish that in the event this happens again, the user (us) should at least able to use TWRP without providing decryption key, so that we could make an image copy of /data. Then i also wish android would allow us to export the decryption key whenever we want so we can keep it. Then when data "corrupts" we should theoretically able to use the decryption key to decrypt much needed files.
But hey i could only hope.
So as some of you know I have been chasing an audio problem with my Note 9 for a few weeks now.
Somebody I trust as a good guide + my own research indicated problems with a hidden partition after the update. To android 10. (This is what caused some google pixel phones to fail after the update). Also when I adb Shell into my phone I see one hidden partition has zero space free on it. Maybe this is causing the problem.
So my doing a re-set is kind of pointless. As it only formats the data partition.
I was told to take the phone to a service center and get them to re-flash the s/w from scratch.
This will format all partitions hidden or other wise.
I did this went to Samsung service explained the problem and asked them to re-flash. They took the phone in and 15 min latter returned saying sorry its still not working.
Then they kept it for a week saying they would look into it. After a week they said sorry its out of warranty. If you want your problem fixed replace the main board.
So I took my phone back.
When I reached home I found that the phone connected to my wifi. Without asking for a password.
This basically means they did not re-flash anything.
I have some exp with rooting the last phone I rooted was my Note 4.0. When the note 4 developed a problem they refused to fix it saying warranty is void as you rooted it. When I had issues with my other Note they said you did not buy this phone in India so no support. So this time I purchased the phone in India. I did not root it.
Also I use Samsung Pass so do not want to root it.
How can I do a factory / service center re-flash at home.
My limited memory tells me Odin should work.
But I am not sure what options to pick and what not to. And what to backup (From my old phones I think I need to backup the EFS). My personal data is not an issue as I have re-set data over 10 times.
Help I need. Want to keep Samsung pass working at any cost.
1. Which firmware to load and where to get it from.
2. Which Odin to use (I see patched Odin being recommended in some places).
3. What options to pick in odin to make sure all partitions hidden / system / all get formated.
4. Should I use SD card or USB cable.
If this fails my next option is to do a chip level repair job of the board. I have ordered the Max98512 IC from China.
Will take pics and detail the repairs to help others.
Attached is what I have on the phone right now. Security patch is 1 July 2020.
Yes I know I should spend some time reading. Have been at it for the past 20 hours. Samsmobile is where I need to head for next I guess. But I also read that Samsung Changed the boot loader so do not wish to brick my phone.

Found this seems to match and has link to odin and some instructions.

Here are the answers to your questions:
1. Use frija tool. It will download the latest firmware for your model automatically.
2. Odin 3.13 should do.
3. Check Nand Erase and Re-Partition. You can extract the pit file from the CSC file of the downloaded firmware. Put that pit file in the Pit tab of Odin.
4. USB Cable.
Hope this helps.

No idea what that is. I will try and google it.
Ok found this.
https://combinationfirmware.com/combination-samsung-galaxy-note-9/
Will it void my Knox.
Ok no combination file for N960FXXS6ETF7 I have left a request.
I also cant find a youtube video which shows you what tools are included or how they are used.
Audio works via blue tooth. But not for phone calls.
All speakers and mics dead.
Sound recorder hangs when I try to use it.
Another question I am looking for is which IC do I need to replace Max98512 or 9896b
Extracting the PIT file sounds complicated. Maybe I will just try erase first.
Fingers crossed that I don't brick the phone. Or make the problem worse.
Ok I could not find the pit file. Can I erase nand without using pit file ?.
Or can you tell me path to pit file.
Also, there are two files for CCS
CSC_OMC_OXM_N960FOXM6ETG3_CL18803598_QB32888639_REV00_user_low_ship.tar
And
HOME_CSC_OMC_OXM_N960FOXM6ETG3_CL18803598_QB32888639_REV00_user_low_ship.tar
Which one do I use.
(answer to this found here
https://technastic.com/csc-home-csc...e is to,phone while keeping everything intact.
And what file do I use for user data in Odin.
I need to remove my google account before I do anything. But I cant seem to remove my Samsung account. Hope that does not cause a problem.
Mods you can delete this post.
I did a complete erase and fresh install and it did not help my problem.
Have escalated the problem with Samsung and if they still do nothing my chips / spares will land up from China is few weeks.

I can see you have already completed the erase and fresh installation but for future reference, if you ever need to extract PIT file, you can just open your CSC file with 7zip or Winrar and there you can see .PIT file, you can drag and drop it out of the zipped file.
