Droid Turbo dies at 4% - Verizon Motorola Droid Turbo Q&A, Help & Troublesh

My Droid Turbo was at 4% and displayed ''powering off'' and it turned off shortly after. When I tried to turn it back on, it displayed 0%. But when I plugged it in to charge, it displayed 4%. Any idea on whats going on?

Anyone have a solution????

I understand that when battery gets old, it may be getting unable to correctly reflect the remaining power as it reaches zero. If that happens, the only way to rectify is replacing it with a new battery.

I've only had this device for a few months. So I don't know if that's it. Does yours do the same thing? Please get back to me.
I'm running the latest marshmallow update from March if that matters too.

Mine does the same thing, at even higher battery % than 4% (usually around 15% or so).
That seems to be normal. I don't know when it started, though, as I avoid letting the battery get that low.

Quick question. Are you on a custom or stock ROM when this is happening?

Custom (lineageOS), though it happened on stock as well.

Are you sure you got the device brand new unused? It is not a new model so even if you get an unused one, the battery may not be as durable as a new one. But I would say unless you abused the battery in these few months, it would not have gone bad this quick.
Although mine can't hold charge as good as before, after 2.5 years of use it can still last for one day. I seldom let it go down to 1%, but the case you mentioned have not happened to me. But this is a rather common problem, across different brands of devices.

[SOLVED] Incorrect Battery Values

This seems to be quite a common and somewhat obscure at the same time.
Many people have reported installing a new rom or even just powering up their phone and seeing a battery % much different from what they expect. Most often much lower than it should be. Evidently this corrects itself after some time but it's a real problem if your display reads <15% because you really have to plug it in then, even with you know you have 90% battery!
So, here's the solution after testing it under different circumstances over a few days:
Simply boot your phone when it is not plugged in to a power source and battery % will be accurate.
That simple. Silly LG!
So, if you flash a new rom, unplug the USB cable before you reboot...
Hit 'Thanks' below for the 50 reboots I did to prove this...
hehehe jups allready figured that out on myself tho haha. But indeed that's kinda silly of LG

What about every time I use a custom rom the battery % indicator jumps right down to 90-95% when unplugging from charger ? Do you have a solution for that ?

Sorry to say the same..
Even while charging with the phone shut down, pulling it off the charger and then booting this happens. On my phone I have experienced it on all MCR's.
It's really not a big deal as long as the battery performs as Stock 10b, that build has been stable batterywise on my phone. But staying stock isn't too much fun
Well, every time I charge, whether I reboot/shut down before unplugging or not, my charge always maxes out at 96%.
Annoying and I'd like it sorted if at all possible.
Anyone?..........lol

ye i got that exact same issue i was wondering why that was happening and hoped that a simple reboot would fix it but its a bit more complicated than that i suppose...
also the battery reset in cwm didnt fix the loading till 97% w/e percentage.
when i install the stock rom it allows me to load it till 100% though pretty weird stuff -.-

I had a replacement netbook battery that could only max to 90%. So, over the weekend, I practically drained it to 0% (not a healthy practice for Li-ion batteries but I was desperate). Took out the battery for a while, and then recharged for several hours. Well, it seems to get up to 100% now.
Perhaps you could try using the the phone until it very low on battery before recharging. Maybe the charging process in the phone needs some sort of recalibration. But should not be doing this all the time as it will reduce Li-ion battery longevity.
Let mine totally die last night so it wouldn't even turn on at all. Took out and replaced battery and then charged it overnight and hey-presto, when I unplugged it this morning, it stayed at 100%.
Solved indeed....for me anyway. Feel free to try the same and post your results.

I'll be sure to try your tip man. But not easy drain it completely when I always need the phone :=)
I guys! I've got the same problem.
I think that it could depend on the "full battery popup FIX" that Paul introduced in his roms by the FR8.
So I would like to ask Paul if you can create a patch to remove that fix. Just to try it!
According to me, incorrect battery amount depend on a wrong voltage read error (offset introduced?) by the rom.
In my case, I have followed many times battery wype procedure without positive issue. The matter leaves only by flashing original roms.
I think that if Paul have written a wrong battery values range (to delete the battery full popup) that can be traduced in an incorrect battery status displays.

It was occurring before Paul introduced that change unfortunately...
After I wrote here, I registered a premium account to Paul's from modaco site and toke a custom fr12 rom without "battery full popup remove patch". Now I'm going to sleep and plugin the 2x to charge. Tomorrow I'll write here if is that the solution...

Perhaps, but you can not conclude it was introduced by MCR. You logic is wrong there.
Even without "battery full popup fix" it doesn't work good...
Battery level, when unpluged, stay at 100% for 2 minutes afterwards drop down fast until 85% then drain normally...
I'm getting huge battery display problems no matter what I do.
When I took it off the charger this morning, it said I had 100%... thats fair enough. However it stayed at 100% all day, so to "refresh" it this evening I restarted the phone, and low and behold it now says I have 27% left. But again, it's just sticking at that value, even with me now plugging the phone into the wall to charge. It simply says "Charging (27%)" and won't budge, likely until I restart the phone again.
Sometimes it works fine, it seemed to be doing ok last night before I put it on the charger. Any tips/suggestions? Is this something likely to be fixed when the Gingerbread update rolls around?
This is my first real smartphone, and am fairly annoyed as its giving me a fair few problems that I've not had from other electronic devices.
As I stated in another thread, I had the same issue while on MoDaCo Fr12. However, after reverting back to stock, the battery percentage is spot-on and I'm getting up to 48 hours use out of it.
Draw your own conclusions.

That sounds super, but I'm still on stock too. About the only things of note I've done are root and switching to Launcher Pro. Oh, and Clockwork Mod of course. Perhaps a complete reboot is needed, we'll see how it goes.
Saying that - since charging, my phone has been at 90% all evening, until right this moment when it changed to 89%. It's less than I'd expect on this type of phone for 3-4 hours use (or lack thereof, I've barely touched it), but it's a start eh?
Welcome to the world of smartphones my friend. I've had various handsets over the last 4 years from iphone to android and a day and a half out of the battery is about average......at best. ;-)
Sent from my LG-P990 using XDA App
Just to clarify, what I meant in my previous post was that I was expecting to battery to drop a lot more than it did. The fact that it only went down 1% in several hours of use prompted me to think that the battery value was messed up.
As it is, I've not charged my phone in the 36 hours since, and it tells me I have 73% battery left. Perhaps it is performing extremely well after all? If that's the case then I'm more than happy with it, but being the pessimist I'm still expecting the phone to turn off sometime with the battery reporting incorrect values.

Battery Drain

Anyone else having extreme battery drain issues?
Just started out of nowhere. I woke up, checked my phone as usual.. it was cool when I picked it up, but after 5 minutes on it, it started getting hot.
Battery is draining 20-30 in 15 minutes.. I've wiped the phone and installed a fresh ROM, both AOSP, and Sense-based. If I take it off the charger it will drain and die. I've had this happen to a previous HTC One.
Does anyone have any ideas?
It doesn't make much sense to me.. if I wipe the phone, and all it has is a bootloader and recovery, what could the problem be? I wipe the phone and turn it off, and it still gets hotter and hotter. I'm barely keeping it alive on the charger.. I can manage flashing a ROM, et.c. but if I leave anywhere with my phone and use it.. it will be dead in an hour I feel. Then it will be a brick.
Anyone?
I've tried the PWR Volume +/- too..

Batterycell problem, assuming you've always used the original charger that came with the phone?
Anyways it sounds like a warranty issue. I would return the software to stock and deliver it back saying it's always been like this. You should get a new.
Whatever you do, turn it off at night. Assuming the cells are unstable, it may actually overheat and explode. I wouldn't want to be asleep at that time if I were you...

Ugh.. this is already my 4th One in 3 months. Tired of this problem.
I'm probably going to request a different model of phone. Too many problems here.
Thanks...
Feel for you bro... I've fortunately never had any problems with mine, nor have my friends with their One's.
Well, sounds pretty bad, sorry for you
But i would sent it back (again) and make some pressure and tell them you want a fully functionally phone already! I dont know what i would do, i'm fine with mine ('knocking on the table*) but if had such issues and already had THREE phones because of issues i would go enrage lol.
Have had issues with a new laptop the first one had heating problems with graphic processor, so i sent it back, made some pressure and got a new one which is fine now
What i will say, always make a little pressure and don't say "okay" to everything you will get

Phone turns off at 5% - 15% battery

I've been having an issue with my Moto X XT1092 lately where the phone will turn off despite android 5.1 showing the percentage on anywhere from 5% to 15%.
I've tried draining the battery right down, even to when the secret "your battery is seriously dead" LED turns on, then charging it right back up to 100% without booting it. I also used a power meter to see when it actually stopped pulling a current too. That worked for about 2 weeks but now it's turning off when there's 10% left again.
Spoke to motorola and all they could say was factory reset the device because system updates can cause this issue.
Has anyone else had this problem? Does anyone have a fix that isn't a full restore? If not, did a restore fix your issue?
I have noticed that as well. I originally did a reformat when I got 5.1.0 and mine does it so Im thinking there might be something else going on. Until reading this post from you I thought it was just my battery getting old....which could be the case as well.

I don't think it's down to age, the new X's are only a year or so old, batteries should last much longer. I think it's a bug in the OS, perhaps something stopping the software from reading the hardware accurately?

Z1 Battery Problems

Hi, I have a Sony Xperia Z1 running cm12 nightlies. I've been getting this problem where the phone shows 40% battery but turns off at this and on restart shows 1%
This was okay, however, recently it has started turning off at 70%
I don't really want to replace the battery, as my warrenty is voided (isn't it) and it's not the easiest thing to disassemble.
Thanks.

Don't waste your time on flashing and calibrating. You have classic symptoms of a dying battery. Soon, the phone would shut down at 90%, because your battery capacity is 6-7 times less. Try to run a youtube video and your phone will die in less than 20 min.
If you read this and general threads, you would have found similar complains. You need to replace your battery.

How easy would you say taking apart and replacing the battery in a Z1 is?
Edit: If it's the battery why does it suddenly cut off instead of quickly decreasing.

Because battery is measured by voltage and when voltage goes down to a certain level, kernel shuts down the phone. If your normal battery has 20 cells, yours has only 3 left and voltage goes down rapidly under load, because the other cells are dead. Even if the battery has 1 cell left, when it is charged, the phone will show 100%, while there is a real capacity to hold just a few percents.
Watch youtube videos on how to change the battery. You may or may not break the back pannel (I did). So, get a replacement back glass too.

You probably have a random reboot issue (thanks to some recent dumb kernel/rom improvements), as opposed to switch off. Look for what your battery shows after reboot: if it is 1%, it is battery related and you got a bad replacement. If it is close to the value before reboot, it is your rom/kernel. There is no third option. And by the way, battery drain has nothing to do with bad battery. Most drains are caused by Gapps and social apps. Also, if you install a new rom or battery, you have to give it a few charging cycles.

If your phone boots on its own after switching off, then it is not the battery issue. CM roms are becoming worse and worse for several reasons: too many devices; bad sources from google and incompetent software guys (both at CM and Google). I don't like apple and their products, but when one entity controls hardware and software, you will have fewer bugs. Google pays their engineers for introducing more and more ad related things into Android, as opposed to making Android a full blown operating system.
Go to stock and see how long your new battery lasts: if it dies after 20 min of youtube, you have a bad battery. Period. If it is not, then find a custom rom that does not have random reboots, which unfortunately there is only 2 or 3...
For any measurements to be valid, you need to give your battery at least one cycle on a current rom (from 100% to 15-16%).
P.S. You may have both issues. If you paid $10-12 for a new battery, then most likely, you have a Chinese fake that only looks like real Sony...

Just do what I recommended in the previous post: go to stock, fully charge and see how long the battery lasts on youtube: in 20 minutes, you should lose no more than 13-15% on a new battery, as opposed to go to zero. Some Z1 batteries have a problem: Mine died about 9 months ago. My old Xperia ION (which is a 2012 phone) battery is still going strong (lasts for at least 2 days on Jeallybean).

That means your battery is fine and you have random reboots related to the rom you use. Here are custom roms that have no reboots: slimrom; tesla, DU and Jaguar. The last 3 are mine. LOL. I am not promoting my roms, don't need to (just look at the number of downloads, especially Jaguar)... In case of Jaguar, you have to flash November 1 kernel on top of the latest release. It is in November that they introduced changes that cause reboots...
Haha..
I know you don't have to plug-in your roms. I guess I will hold it for a day to see how my phone behaves. Major battery drain is when I play Clash of Clans. I am on CoC to check endurance. If not, them will move to Jaguar with Nov kernel on top.
I have realized that it's somewhere in November since there random reboots and battery issues started

I flashed latest Jaguar with Nov 1 kernel and c6902 modem (Version 4). Have also flashed 5.1 gapps (Micro version) and restored all my apps. have created Zip from titanium backup.
Phone still went off from around 75% battery. when restarted again, it came back with 45% battery, just to die within 30 seconds :crying:

Battery drain when phone completely off

I can't figure out why after complete off my phone still drains battery like 20% in 24 hours.
How i figured? I charged phone to 100%. Switched off and left home for a week.
After coming back i found phone dead to zero and it took me some efforts to make it alive.
Then i decided that maybe i left it on. I took sim card away, charged to full, wiped and off.... After 24 hours i switched on and found thta phone drained 20%.
Phone SM-N950W
Any suggestions on what it might be?
Batteries discharge over time by themselves, but not at the rate you obseved, the phone, even when off, also uses energy to keep some things running, as time and date and a service watching the power button among others, but, again, at a lower rate than you are experimenting
Install Greenify and Naptime.

If you have powered off your device, there shouldn't be any power drain.

I understand that it should not, but it is.
I can't understand how is it possible.
When phone is on, it behave like it should be with 4.5 hours screen on time and like working day with average load. But when i turn phone off, no matter what happen it consume 20% in 24 hours.
I tried to look threads with similar problem but all i could find related to switched on phone.
I guess its time to visit service center.

Yeah I would go to a service center. I don't think the battery is literally draining 20% when off, it's more likely an issue with the battery capacity itself not holding a full charge like it should. Still, that would require service.

I think you misunderstood the post. His phone is off. As in, it's not on. Not just put to sleep or the screen is off. The device is completely and entirely switched off. These apps won't do anything if the device is off.

In short I visited Service Center today. They told that battery is fine and the issues in Motherboard. Since I live in Exynos region no chance for me to fix this. Internals of the phone are different.
To send phone in Canada from Russia is unreasonable. So I have to accept this and live further.

No I didn't! My SGS 2 that had the same inexplicable battery drain when switched off. The battery got into deep discharge. As the battery was removable, I modified an AC adaptor with the same voltage to "kick start" the battery. That worked a couple of times. In the end I had to say good bye to my first Samsung phone. What actually led to the discharge was never discovered. I only remember that the phone got wet during a day long cycle tour. 6 months later the problem developed. That's why I'm pretty sure it's a hardware problem. I hope this guy gives us a feed back if he finds out what the problem was. Cheers LJ

I wasn't replying to you, now was I? I quoted someone else whom I was replying to, as Sefrcoko also mentioned.
