I read quite a few people saying they have bad WiFi reception with the Nokia 8, is it a widespread issue? What's the problem with the phone causing it to have less than average WiFi reception? Thanks

Absolutely no issues with mine regards reception.
Same here wifi works very good here
Powered by Nokia 8
Works great here, it is better than my Moto G5 Plus and Moto X Play.
All good. No issues at all.
5Ghz seems to be even stronger than on my previous moto x force.
Hmm you all seem to be happy with it so it must be that the negative reviews I read are just individual concerns
For me wifi is great but normal network signal is not as good as my previous P9.
Where I got H+ I am now only getting 3g in some places.
Absolutely excellent!
Much better than my HTC 10!
The 4G signal too! Almost full signal where others come with two bars.

I read that the HTC 10 is not really such a champion of WiFi in fact quite the opposite... It might be better to compare it to Samsung S7 or iPhone 6 or 7... How does the Nokia 8 WiFi reception and range compare to these phones please?

Better than S7 Edge too, both ways. (GSM and WiFi)
My sister have one.
The transfer over WiFi is faster too!
I use MyPhoneExplorer to manage apps/files sometimes and transmission speed are up to 5mbps on Nokia 8, when the S7E got a maximum of 2.6mbps

1. 3G reception is similar to iPhone 3G...unfortunately
2. battery life depends on usage, I'd say it is comparable
I have to say that I'm pretty disappointed with the Diamond 2.
I can't see real differences compared to the Diamond, maybe the better camera (it really takes good pictures in good light but the object doesn't need to move), the better (bigger) display, the improved Touchflo (still MILES away from iPhone usability) and the pretty loud loudspeaker. Reception, especially 3G, is subpar compared to devices like Nokia E75 or E90.
HTC urgently needs to address the reception issues but I'm really not sure a radio FW update will substantially improve things, I can only hope for it.
For those who have the device, how does your wifi signal strength compare. Sitting at my desk, I get no bars now where on my OneX I got 2 or 3.

Same issue here on a phone from O2 with the latest software installed.
Compared to an iphone 5 struggles to hang onto signal. Tried both bands as well, same issue.
I can see my work wifi in a location I frequent with previous phones.
I can connect and use it even though it gives me just a dot for the signal. other phones struggle in this same location.
Perhaps try turning off Wifi power saving in the settings

yeah its pretty bad for me. next room and i'm down to "1 bar" when on all of my other devices i'd get 4 or 5
guys from what I've seen don't go by the little signal strength indicator on the notification bar as it doesn't really reflect what's actually happening, I had a XZU for a few weeks and a Z before that, I can pick up wifi connections on both the XZU and Z1 were the Z was out of range, I was sitting in a bar last night connected to a wifi AP that was about 100m away and there are structures and people in-between, the Z1 is as good as the ZU when connecting to wifi and both are better than the Z

Wifi on my Z1 C6903 seems really poor.
Connected to 5Ghz on a dual band wifi router situated in the tv room. I don't get any connectivity from my room which is around 10m away.
I used to get decent connectivity on my iphone 5 - speedtest of around 14mbps. I can't even connect to speedtest on my Z1.
On a sidenote - what is with the headphone button not working. Had to update to .534 after much googling. Also, the new firmware doesn't help the wifi issues. Who knows how long we'll have to wait for a fix ...which may or may not improve it.
Also, did try to turn off the wifi power saving "feature" as well. Didn't do much.
Anyways that's my feedback.
same here! very bad connection with the xperia z1.
Yep poor wifi performance, I hope we get a software fix soon
Same here, disconnects from wifi a lot.

In OP, I said compared to my previous phone. Also, have trouble with mobile data being very slow. With that being said, I have moved provider to EE but they are supposed to have decent coverage.
Not sure now whether to return and get a new one or get the Notes 3 instead.

Basically it is rubbish so far. The signal and speed is not as good as other devices.
Interested in hearing more from people who say it is fine.
Fine compared to what? Can you give examples?
---------- Post added at 04:03 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:41 PM ----------
As an example between Z1 and a 5S.
Same router, same distance.
Speedtest.net app on each phone.
Z1
Ping: 248ms
Down: 0.42
Up: 1.25
5S
Ping: 45ms
Down: 17.49
Up: 2.5
(I have around 20mbit fibre with around 3-4mbit up)
How frustrating, I was looking at upgrading to this phone, and reading most of the posts floating around I am having huge deja vu experiences with the newly launched Xperia Z and the pains associated with being some of the first. I feel for you all.
While we are talking WIFI, anyone tested the 802.11ac bands?

The Wifi Lag issue is killing me! Still no Lollipop, I miss root, but I still have my s4.
My question is, If I returned my phone what phone would you get? I love the 5.2 inch screen and the 20 meg camera. The M9 will be a 5 inch screen and verizon has not eta. Suggestions Please
No doubt next step up will be the note 4 or N6

Ah. I have that issue at work but not at home. I run DD-WRT at home.
Gotta be a router chipset incompatibility with whatever the Turbo uses.

I notice more issues on 802.11ac 5 ghz networks, I switch to a 2.4ghz network and the problem goes away. It's how the phone handles wifi networks and should be resolved in a patch. At Home I have 2.4 and 5

I advanced Wi-Fi settings, I have "2.4Ghz only".
No issues, except for when it tries to grab passing AT&T hotspots while driving, but yet too far to actually transmit data. Turning off Wi-Fi while driving is the only way to solve that.
Yeah, not a lot of other choices, I was actually thinking about it last night.
Cost is still a thing too, just as I feared waiting for L and patches the value of
the DT has dropped a fair bit.
Deffinantly the lg g3. If you want, you can wait till the g4 comes out which is soon. I was a turbo owner and root was a deal breaker for me. Switched to the g3 and I'm loving the switch!
Nexus 6 supposed to be on VZW tomorrow finally. Wish I'd waited...
I do sure hope 5.1 brings fixes
WiFi on my Turbo is crippling, yet it works fine on LTE
I've tried dozens of different routers/ISP's/locations, and its definitely the phone
M8....ez to s-off and root....i picked up a new one and now i'm s-off, rooted running lollipop
Obviously you haven't thought of the Passport... http://www.technobuffalo.com/2015/0...berry-passport-best-smartphone-readers-choic/ (about halfway down is the results)
Nothing against the Passport... but c'mon, really?
---------- Post added at 03:20 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:15 PM ----------
The Turbo checks off so many marks, honestly I'm not sure what would be much better. I have my doubts about the S6. I think it will be a great device with horrible battery life and no "ruggedness". The M9 will be the M8. I liked the M8 but it was too tall / slippery for me - though the M9 will be slightly shorter and less slippery... so maybe it'll be great. But it's also too pretty (if that makes sense) and I'll be constantly worried about dinging it against things. G4 won't be out for awhile and will be too big for me. G3 is too big for me and gets so-so battery life. G2 is actually still a really great device IMHO (still have one) and a great balance between all the factors except for the plasticky feel. Moto X is great but has mediocre battery life and the camera is even more mediocre than the Turbo's... plus the Lollipop it has on Verizon is buggy.
I guess there's just no perfect device...
I have a M7, G2, and (current daily driver) Moto Maxx. If the Maxx added OIS and an IR blaster, it would probably be my version of a "perfect" phone...but it's still darn good as is (I use DD-WRT and also haven't experienced the lag issue). But I also can't give up my G2.
Do you have anything that can tide you over until more 16 or 14 nm processor phones come out? Those may make a big difference in battery performance. If I could only have one phone until I get the latter, I'd probably go with the (older) G2. They can be picked up for a great price.
I'd love to hear other people's choices...
In regards to the iPhone 6, or Note 4? I am wondering if the device has good signal in fringy locations? Does it hold onto LTE in weak areas?

Every Samsung phone I've had has horrible service. Defaults to 3G when in my pocket and the signal strength is never as good as other brands of phones I've had ( Motorola, Apple, HTC). The only variable being different is the name brand, I've always been on Verizon and lived in the same place. My note 3 always defaulted to 3G, I can count the number of times my iPhone has defaulted to 3G on one hand( not just looking at signal bar strength). I really want the note 5 but if the signal strength is worse or similar( I'm especially worried about the aluminum material used) to other Samsung phones I won't get it. Even if you have the best phone in the world it's only as good as the cell reception.
Thanks in advance.
I can't speak in terms of the note 4 or iPhone, but my previous phone was a Galaxy S4. In my daily life, I definitely notice that the Note 5 has WAY better signal strength than the S4. I used to sit at this bench, but I couldn't use any internet there (not even 3G!) so I stopped. However, my note 5 is picking up LTE 3/4 bars in an area where a 2013 flagship phone couldn't pick anything up . Definitely an upgrade. Sprint btw.

On a unrelated note ( pun intended). How is the speakerphone compared to iPhone 6? Another shortcoming of my note 3 was the weak speaker.

i live in a rural area and while in the house i barely get 3g and occasionaly switch to the roaming tower. outside lte and was able to stream spotifiy for 3 hours while cutting the grass without problem. coming from a note 2 it's a huge improvement (used get 1x out there or 3g with no throughput). my n6 on verizon is pretty much the same, but i get a slightly better lte signal in the house by the only window where i can catch it - the note 5 sprint does the same, but just not as strong.
On t-mobile its amazing. I have super strong signal and even gets me through old dead zones near my house without dropping calls. so color me impressed. I would say its MUCH MUCH better than the note 3, I was always loosing signal bars when driving but night and day from work to back now, no more dropped calls/dropped internet
Hi
I'm currently considering buying the Pixel 5, but was wondering if anyone had used the 5G service from EE in the Uk. What is the connection like and what speeds are you getting compared to 4g?
I live close to Liverpool and according to EE map I should get good coverage, although it doesn't mention indoors or outdoors reception.
Neil
Hi I'm with pixel 5 on EE , I'm in Edinburgh and the 5g speeds go up to the disappointing 70Mbps , but 4g is even more disappointing with 18Mbps , when the upload speeds are practically the same ???
No wwWave on the Pixel 5 outside of the states so we're never going to see eye watering speeds, you should see is some improvement over 4g (as demonstrated by Adrianfranc0) but more importantly 5g gives a huge increase in capacity. The speeds you do get will be constantly higher and not drop to a dribble when the cell fills up (which with 4g isn't that many connections). That said used to see nearly 250Mbit down 90Mbit up on 4g using my +1 7t, I'll be miffed if the Pixel 5 cannot manage anything like that.

My 4g speeds at home are 75Mps so im hoping for quite good 5G speeds, only thing im worried about is the performance of the 5G on the pixel, still trying to decide on this one thought.

I'm still on my trusty Pixel 2 XL in the US but will almost surely get the Pixel 5 for the strong 5G and hopefully soon mmWave in my neighborhood. Since the UK doesn't have mmWave, why are you all buying the Pixel 5 instead of the less expensive 4A5G without mmWave?

The UK Pixel 5 doesn't have the mmWave compatibility, just the sub-6 5g option. That part was only included in US devices. That's why the Pixel 5 in the US costs $699 instead of $599. Also why it's cheaper to buy in other regions.
Here in the UK the Pixel 4a 5G costs £499 and the Pixel 5 costs £599. So the prices are much closer. With the added benefits, I think the 5 is the better option here.

The 4A is too big otherwise I'd get it. Bigger battery on the 5 also but not by that much.
I tested Three's new 5G network in South London on my Pixel 5 and I was surprised to see peak speeds of around 300Mbps download which settled at an average of ~180Mbps. See enclosed Speedtest snapshot. Uploads speeds were disappointing at around 10-20Mbps. Still, much faster my Sky home broadband and much much faster than 4G. My usual 4G downloads at home averages 26-30Mbps and my Sky broadband is ~75Mbps.
As stated the difference in price is only 100 not 200 as in the states. The 5 is waterproof, which in the uk is kind of necessary, it's a better size, in my opinion, it has a bigger battery, better screen, more ram and the metal body would seem to be a stronger build. So that's why I would choose the 5 over the 4a 5g.
