Hi,
When trying to insert a new Micro SD Card on the Moto X4 (XT1900), the option to format the card as internal stora is missing.
Have anyone faced this issue on Moto X4?
Br, Alex
Internal storage (aka, adoptable storage) is not available on devices where "Direct Boot" is enabled. See also

I personally dislike "direct boot". Hopefully a developer will find a way to disable direct boot

Hello,
so, I came across the following article:
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/android-5-0-sd-cards/
Now, I am wondering:
How exactly is external SD card storage handled on the Motorola Moto G 2nd Gen when having upgraded to Lollipop?
Can you put all apps onto an external SD card?
And does it have to be done manually for each app? Or does it happen automatically?
And what about encryption?
Does the Motorola Moto G 2nd Gen with Lollipop have an option to encrypt the external SD card storage?
Or can you only encrypt the device storage?
It would be much appreciated if someone could elaborate on this.
PS:
And could someone please tell how much device storage is left on a Lollipop updated Motorola Moto G 2nd Gen with 8 GB of device storage?
Regards
Anyone?
No, cannot move all apps to SD card...I have not tried encrypting the storage yet
As for available space, I have 3.07gb available after installing about 30 apps and caching two radio stations in slacker.
Hey guys. To activate Adoptable Storage on the Asus Zenfone 2 Laser, I followed this guide:
https://www.asus.com/zentalk/in/thread-79993-1-1.html
After that, I was able to format the SanDisk SD Card. But only for APPS ???
What I mean is that there are 2 options.
First Option: "Use as an Internal Storage for apps only". This I am able to chose.
But the 2nd Option "Use as an internal storage for both apps and data" is greyed out...
So is this suppose to be like this?
Or is there something wrong?
Cause I can't add anymore media to my SD Card, the PC doesn't even see it.
tnx for help!
Well , the problem I'm having is that I can't format my micro sd as internal storage. Instead, it says "Move Media". Does anyone haveing the same problem ?
Tbe X4 simply doesn't support it, because of the file based encryption. As far as I know, if anyone find a way to force disable FBE we should be able to use adoptable storage.
Hi. I'm wondering how the heck do you move applications to the SD card on the Moto X4 (android one) on android 8.1? Not a single app I install (Pokemon GO, Discord) have the "change" button under apps and notifications->(app name)->storage... I'm honestly stumped. I can't format the sd as internal either...
Thanks.
The Moto X4 uses FBE (file based encryption) so you can not run applications off the SD. The SD can only be used for media storage.
I hope this is the right place to ask this question.
For some reason, every time I restart Android 8 it changes the last 12 digits in the path to the SanDisk microSD card (UUID). As a result, any app that uses the external storage cannot find the files. The path format is /storage/YYYYYYYY-YYYY-YYYY-YYYY-XXXXXXXXXXXX and the X's keep changing after every restart. Is there a way to stop this?
The card is a Sandisk 64 GB microSD card using exFAT. I've reformatted the card multiple times but the Moto E5 still keeps changing the path.
Is this a microSD problem or an OS problem?
Yeah this was annoying but is how either motorola or stock android is supporting removable storage devices. If you want it to be treated as non-removable storage you will need to go into settings -> storage -> click on the SD card -> three dots -> format as internal. Or something like that as the last step. Mine is already marked as internal so I can't check for you. The card will be formatted.
Just google "adoptable storage guide" for articles on it and the process.

I can't format it as internal since I have to be able to use the microSD in another computer. But is there any way to get it to stop changing the path to the microSD on every restart? Is exFAT the problem? When I previously used a FAT32 microSD card it didn't have this problem.
I'd decided to format the microSD card to FAT32 see if that would fix the problem. I restarted the phone and now it finally has the same path to the microSD card! So it looks like Android 8 on a Moto E5 apparently does not like exFAT.
