Hey everyone.
I've recently been considering getting a Whitestone dome as my screens usually end up getting scratched. I also tend to drop my phone at least once a week (nothing so far thankfully but I know it's a matter of when not if).
My in concern is that a couple of users reported problems with lift using the S8 Whitestone with the gear VR. Has anyone got any expirence using the note 8 protector with the new gear VR headset? I do enjoy the odd VR session but Im concerned if the protector would hold in the headset and being removed in and out of the case often.
Any our insight you could offer would be much appreciated.
From my experience, the Whitestone does lift/bubble in the plug area between the phone and VR. I found using the film-like screen protector fits better while plugged into the VR. However I still feel the Whitestone is the best tempered glass SP for the Note 8 to date.
Thank you very much for your response. Could I ask if the problems you expirenced were for the note 8 with the gear VR 2017?
Yes I do believe based on user reviews the Whitestone is the best choice out there right now for the N8. Did you yourself switch to film for VR, or just bear with the Whitestone lift? Having a hard time finding a good film availible in the UK which isn't rated 2.5 stars :/
The best possible thing to do, is to somehow get an additional USB-C plug, and file it on both sides, to accommodate the extra girth of the screen and perhaps a slim case.

I bought the whitestone dome for the note 8 as its currently the best screen protector you can get for the money- period, i tried loads of others but no dice.
I thought id have to sacrifice the use of the gear vr..anyway over xmas i saw one going for £50...and thought id risk it....if you file ( used a dremel) to totally file down the part of the connector that rests on the screen protector...it works beautifully.
That bit is removable and its a five minute job. Its definetly worth doing...wish i did it earlier.

I yanked the screen protector off of my note to use this but I'm not really a fan of not using any screen protection at all. Does anyone use a screen protector that doesn't interfere with the Gear VR?

I initially had a glass protector on mine but ripped it off because of bad halo effect around all sides. I went naked but like you I don’t like the idea of an unprotected display. So I went back to a bunch of xtreme guard dry protectors, cut the top and bottoms down to decrease halo’s and the result is acceptable. I actually like the feel of the protector and the S-Pen works fine but there is still a hint of halo on the sides.
The only issue is that even for the smallest speck of dust or lint trapped below the protector it will show up magnified and appear in the same spot. To the naked eye I cannot see it but it is noticeable in the headset.
If Spigen made this case below for the Note 4 I would do without a screen protector. I just don’t care for cases like otterbox defenders because it’s a pain in the butt to rip that case off 2 to 3 times a day.
http://www.spigen.com/brands/samsun...ote-3/galaxy-note-3-case-slim-armor-view.html
I am using a cheap 6 protectors for $5 from Amazon and it works great... Had to replace the original one I used because with the magnification I could see some dirt inside the screen protector, (wasn't visible thru naked eye) but just replaced the screen protector for another of the 5 left and done... Working perfectly...
I have the clear coat product on mine and i have no problems at all
I use my note 3 screen protector.
I also have a glass protector on my phone including the horrible halo
But i still wonder how much of the edges is shown threw the gear vr.
So tonight i'm gonna test it by putting a piece of tape on the edge of the screen (covering the halo) and look for it threw the gear vr.
Will let you know the outcome...
Note 4 has the brand new and totally unreal Gorilla Glass 4. I wouldn't recommend bothering with a screen protector, it's more like a safety blanket than anything else. Why put highly scratchable plastic or slightly more scratchable extra glass on that beautiful screen when it takes a driven sledgehammer to even scratch the real thing? (eh, can't post link yet because I'm a newbie to XDA. YouTube video code ZabqRB8snK4)

I'm using a supershieldz glass screen protector (0.3mm) and it usually does not interfere with the Gear VR after it starts up.
My only issue is that it sometimes doesn't recognize it as being plugged into the Gear VR. Releasing it and clicking it back in will eventually get it to work, but I wonder if I'm putting stress on the usb thing >_> am I? x_x;; or is this common for people who use a screen protector with the gear vr? I wish they didn't make it such a tight fit for the N4.. ;_;
I have the Bear Motion tempered glass protector on my phone and have had no issues. I'm quite pleased with how well everything works actually.

Hmm.. Maybe mines too thick then :shrugs: Thanks for your input :good:
I was given 2 Sample Otterbox Alpha Glass Screen protectors from Otterbox right before Christmas. I put the screen protector on, I didn't get any halo and I now use my gear with it on. Haven't had any problems with it on at all.

That's weird that some of us would have problems with this protector but not others. I wonder why that is?
I have a friend at work who also has a Note 4 with a screen protector. I might try his Note 4 in the Gear VR later today just for the sake of curiosity.

Ya it helps Otterbox HQ is located less than 70 miles from me. I am in the process of setting up a partnership with Otterbox and my school. To provide discounts to our staff, students and community all while we promote that we use the cases on our Galaxy Note 10.1 (we currently have 800+ Galaxy Note 10.1 deployed to all students and staff K-5) 2 sample screen protectors, 2 sample Note 4 cases and and 3 sample GN 10.1 cases. I have had no halo effect on the Note 4 at all.

If they happen to be using that Moshi Glass (The one that's edge to edge) I would be even more interested :silly:
I just don't like how it feels as though I'm forcing the N4 into the Gear... Without an SP (mine is 0.3 according to SuperShieldz), it clicked in with ease and started up instantly.. but now I will often have to try twice before it starts & I feel like it just barely fits in there now >_>
I know this has been a debate for years and years. Do I go with this, but I heard that and what if....
blah blah blah.
I have a film protector on my note 10.1 2014 and one on my note 8, they've been on there for so long I have no idea which ones I purchased. I recently picked one up for my tab S2 and it's juuuuunk! fingerprints galore. Getting on with this, I bought for the first time tempered glass for my phone and loved it. I don't believe tempered will take away from the amoled screen of the S2 but if I were to pick up a stylus (currently reading great reviews about the The Friendly Swede precision disc) will it take away accuracy? I believe the fingerprint issue is drastically decreased as well.
I'm all ears to experiences and opinions.
Sorry, don't have an answer but do you mind sharing which tempered one you got? I've never gotten a tempered glass one before but everyone who has gotten one seems to say they will never go back to PET film. There are hardly any screen protectors out there at all it seems...maybe it's still too early. I'm getting my tablet today and want to get a screen protector on this soon.
I'm using a glass screen protector for my S2 8.0, and as said, once you use one, there is no returning back to a PET film, glass protector for the S2 is rather limited at the moment, as the market is still small, I have searched through thousands of shops in china for a glass protector for the S2 8.0, and found many, but what is on offer is not what I want, all the protectors sold are flat edged, and 2.5D curved edged are very hard to find, although I did managed to find one shop and purchased 3 pieces.
Glass protectors from china are cheap and as most people will say, they are totally crap, I paid approximate USD 3.15 each for them, they do provide the basic protection from scratches and most protection against damaging the main screen, and that's what matter. For better quality one's, consider going to Gmarket a Korean base site owned by Ebay has some Korean made one's, but rather expensive and they do ship oversea.
At the OP's I'm sorry as I can't quote you on about the stylus, as I don't use them, but I sure it's better than the PET films and it does not affect my touch screen.
I've narrowed my choices down to two. The first one is from Skinomi. I originally purchased one for the the tab 8.4 and when I decided to go with the S2 I simply returned it and they were awesome via amazon. I am kicking myself that I never actually opened it to inspect the glass. I've read that some do have a curved edge and some don't. Here's the link to that one:

the other in the running is here, which it has a lot more reviews but I wonder how many are those fake reviews that are going around amazon. (the merchant provides a free product in exchange for reviews):

Apparently none of them mention about the curve screen, I'm not sure which version you have, I have the 8.0 version.
I have the 8" as well.

I purchased the Skinomi and was pleased with how quickly I installed it. I have no bubbles or particles and it is pretty much flush with the bezel. The button is now slightly recessed below it, but that will happen with all of the glass protectors. I *think* it's rounded because the edges around the button are so smooth. Clarity is excellent and the device is no less responsive. At this point I recommend it.

Thank you for the feedback! When I went to order on Amazon they were back ordered.

UPDATE: I ended up going through Skinomi's website and ordered, shipped and delivered only took one more day than amazon prime would have. Installed and would have to say it looks and feels flawless. Highly recommend.
I ordered this one which apparently has 2.5D, arrived today but haven't had a chance to look at it yet. Will update if it's any good

Skinomi seems really perfect, but... 20 € for 2 screen protection (Tab and Note) and... tatatatata... 80 € for UPS Ground Shipping (only choice for me). I give up!
I'm waiting for quite the same on eBay with free shipping. Deutsche qualität
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0123UHBBU?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00 This is the one I bought. I am really happy with the installation kit and product itself. I managed to kill my tablet (not the screen protector's fault-fell on the corner), so I bought another tablet and another Omoton screen protector. I'd definitely recommend them.
Screen protectors are superfluous and mar the whole experience. Sony recognized that - while the Z series had screen protectors by default, they fortunately removed them in the Z2 series.
It's simple: When you want to transport the device, put a cover/case on it (the Samsung one is fine).
Otherwise use it naked as intended by nature.

hardened glass covers don't reduce screen sensitivity or otherwise mar the "original" experience. Plastic ones do, but not the glass ones.

I bought the Omoton screen protector. The installation kit was the best but it is a fingerprint magnet.
Waiting for a Pen and will see if that does the trick.
I've personally never had one that wasn't a fingerprint magnet. I've got a million microfiber clothes, so they're all over the house and work.I just while it down every day.
So what own are you getting?

So I am using the tempered glass screen protector that comes with the Otterbox Commuter case. It has served me well through many drops, but unfortunately after the last drop it developed a thin crack running from the bottom left edge across to the other side of the screen. It was only a 3ft drop too, not sure why it would crack from that when it has suffered much worse.
Anyway, I'm looking for a new screen protector for it. I have done a bit of research, and I noticed that many of them have issues with proper alignment, halo effect, peeling issues, etc. Apparently people seem to like the Omoton and Zagg the best. Why is there such a huge difference in their price, is it branding or is the Zagg more premium? I also thought, if I'm shelling $20 for the Zagg why not pay a bit more and buy another Otterbox Commuter case that comes with the same screen protector? It's a fingerprint magnet, and it has the halo effect, but I haven't had any problems with it up until it cracked.
Now that it has been a year and we have more knowledge about the different screen protectors for this phone, what do you recommend? Thank you!
I just ordered the Omoton but haven't received yet. On my G3 and G4 I had an iCarez and they were excellent. Only reason I didn't order for the N5 is because I read a bunch of inconsistent reviews.

I have tried many different glass screen protectors for my Note 5, and the best I have found is Aconic. The cost? $5! at a store called Five below (hopefully you have one near you)
Installed without halo or alignment issues, and has really held up against some torture. (I have 5 kids always running off and dropping my phone)
Hope this helps

Is anyone here using a cheap tempered glass protector and is satisfied with it? By that I mean perfect seal on the sides and no dust has gotten inside the screen area. By cheap I obviously mean side adhesive protectors since I have yet to see a generic version of the Whitestone.
I'm asking because they're not all the same. I bought one for my S8+ and it fully adhered to the sides of the screen. No dust ever got into the screen area.
I bought a 4-pack from a different seller on ebay and I would get dust inside within a day so obviously some use better adhesive than others.
I need to pick up something from Amazon or Ebay quickly. I'm using the Ringke Invisible Defender (garbage) and there's too much friction when scrolling or when using the s-pen.
It's like making love to tree bark.
I'm on my third and they all suck so far. I even purchased a 25 dollar one due to great reviews. It fit great but no glue on the screen so there was a HUGE loss of sensitivity and a lot of "clicking". I just bit the bullet and bought the Whitestone Dome Glass.
I'm on my second one so far and still not happy. I tried one from Poetic and totally sucked. Sucked so bad they e-mailed me lol and said they were sending out replacements.
I'm using one now that's better than the first one but still not happy. This one's by Wellci. It's not great but it's cheap and works pretty good.
Galaxy Note 8 Screen Protector, Wellci 3D Curved Screen Protector for Samsung Galaxy Note 8 (Ultra Clear) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0751FFHMF/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_YVZTzbQS3H9G1
I said pretty good.... Not great.
ive tried several, they all peel up on the corners...idk what to do
Weren't they able to pull these off for the 7? Kind of concerned, I bought a wet apply which I haven't opened yet. Seems like the dark ages.

I have high hopes for the IQ shield wet apply as I had a good experience with the S8+ version. Hopefully they have a matte version.
The Spigen wet apply isn't very good.
But all of these wet apply ones are going to be terrible given the use of the s-pen.
I bought a cheap tempered glass screen protector from eBay hoping it would be ok.
This thread does not inspire hope.
Once my phone arrives, I'll apply the screen protector and report back.
I may be quite angry.
The ONLY one worth a $hit is the whitestone dome glass. All the others are trash plain and simple. I had it on my S8+ and it was perfect and I expect the same out of the note 8 version. I am waiting for mine to come in actually. Should be here by next monday I believe.
Simply use loca octopus glue and a uv light on any of those options. Whitestone replica

All the threads here about the various screen protectors (whitestone etc .)for the note 8 contains information about the product whose availability is limited to region like US and UK . Note 8 is recently made a lot of sale during the festive season in India and we will see more of note 8 users from India.
So far no review can be found on internet which can guide the indian consumers to make a purchase. The screen protector available on amazon have barely any reviews and those which have , have it poor.
I would like to ask the indian users to share their reviews of their screen protector and cases based on their use so far. Also if possible please proide the info necessary to get to the product page.
I myself am in need of a good screen protector and case which is available in India and dont want to pay the price equivalent to the cost of another budget mobile phone
I hope this thread gets a decent number of replies and feedbacks and can save a lot of trouble and money to note 8 users
Same for thailand
Hey did you find anything good yet? Im in the same boat and still havn't peeled off the flimsy screen guard that comes pre applied with the phone lol dont want to remove until i can find a replacement. I might end up buying something cheap (sub Rs500~), reviews on amazon seem fake so that doesn't help at all. Whitestone dome glass can be imported but that would cost around $70 (incl shipping)from ebay.com, but that price is too much for tempered glass.
I feel a bit safer knowing that the 1 year screen replacement offer from samsung has us covered.
Just use a cheap full Glass one and loca glue . Works as good as white stone for much cheaper.
for the edge series all the tempered glass that are available is worthless.... cos with full tempered glass most of the cases won't fit and also touch sensitivity will be very less for both full and case friendly tempered glasses... go for normal screen protector with some military grade mobile case....it should work fine in most cases.
After a lot of R&D / going through various reviews, settled on a regular screen protector & the Spigen tough armor case for the SG Note 8. Though the phone tends to feel a tad bit bulky with the Spigen case, it provides excellent protection. As for the screen protector, it was luckily compatible with the Spigen case, S-pen works well, & is holding good so far (about a month now !).
