Anyone else notice their apps are rotated after waking the device if it has been laying flat or upside down in your pocket? I am having this issue a lot. I get a call, pull phone out of pucket and answer the call. After ending call and unlocking my aps are rotated to landscapr mode. It takes a bit of rotating to get the screen back to portrate mode.
Yes. Sometimes after I hang up a call and it returns to whatever screen was on before the phone rang, it displays landscape and I have to twist it a few times to get it back to normal.

Twice now today, my phone's screen has been off, when all of a sudden, it vibrates and the camera app opens.
Some details:
Phone is on silent (not vibrate)
It does not vibrate when I open the camera app myself
My screen is off before it happens, but on (duh..camera) once it happens
It was just sitting on my desk the first time, and it was in my hand the second time
I have no notifications before or after this happens
So that's my issue. Has anyone else experienced something similar? I've rebooted my phone since the second time; I'm waiting to see if it happens again.
Any chance you gave it a good twist?

As the 2 other posters have implied (but not stated), this is most likely the "Twist to launch camera" gesture that is unique to the Moto X.
If you want to disable it, open the camera. Swipe from left to right to bring up the settings menu. Now scroll the settings menu like a wheel. The last icon shows a phone in a hand.
Tap the 'phone in hand' icon - this will disable the "twist" gesture, and it shouldn't happen any more.
I was lying down on my back. Hands up looking at phone. I watched some video. I viewed some pictures. I turned it off and shortly after I got up to plug it into the charger.
When I turned the screen on to verify my alarm was set, the screen is normally portrait in orientation was landscape. It would not rotate. So, I unlocked it in landscape mode, which is a tad awkward just because I'm not used to it.
The screen would only rotate into landscape, or portrait, but portrait was upside down! The buttons for back or home were away from me. Turn off screen and back on. Same thing. Lock screen landscape.
So, I figure I'll go do that calibration where you put your phone on a level surface. It pops up in landscape and all I could see was a letter G and rest was black screen.
Rebooting fixed the problem, but does anyone know if I might have hit something or if there's a fix without rebooting?

Personally this hasn't happened to me but I have heard of it happening. From what i have read and heard is that the proximity sensor for some reason gets stuck. i have heard of people using the old flashlight trick that was used on the M7 to fix it but a reboot fixes it every time. So I don't think you bumped anything. hope this helped .
After just about every call, when I take the phone away from my face the screen remains blank. If I tap the phone against my leg, sometimes the display will come back on.. otherwise I have to press the power button and unlock the screen before I can use it again.
Anyone else have this issue?
Are you using battery guru?

It sounds like it could be a problem with your proximity sensor. There might be some fine debris inside the top speaker grill. You can try blowing it out with a can of compressed air.
Barring that, a replacement device may be necessary.
Ok so the sensor is VERY sensitive when I make calls. Everytime I call my bank and it asks to enter my account number while it's on speakerphone...my fingers don't even get close to the speaker and my screen shuts off until I put my finger far away.
Is there any way to improve or turn this off? It gets annoying when you are on the phone and trying to multi task and screen keeps turning off even though your not even close to the sensor
That is surprising because proximity sensor should be off when on speakerphone. Did you install any app which could directly affect proximity sensor? Maybe factory reset would fix that.

Yes it works like that but ur hands to close to the ear piece. Mind does that till I switch hands
BAD ASS NOTE 4 & GEAR S
When Im on the phone with somebody and i receive a text I could never use the scroll option to bring the bar down because of the sensor. What I do is hit the power button on the side of the phone, then hit it again and sign in with my code, then i dont have the sensor problem anymore. I will still be on the phone and Im at the homescreen. Thats the only way around it for me. its real quick too.
Solution
I am on the phone all day and need the screen to not time out because I am on and off the mute button a lot.
I use Call Light to make sure I always have the screen on when on a call.
Hope that helps some.
I've had this problem with 2 different roms now (PureNexus, Chroma) on a few kernels (stock, ElementalX) so I'm not sure whats causing it but I need a fix. In a call, many times the screen just stops responding. Sometimes I can turn the screen on/off using power button and its fixed. Other times nothing works and I have to do a hard reboot by holding down power key since nothing else works on screen.
This is on latest version of the rom/kernels. Any ideas?
When you say its stops responding, do you mean it goes dark and nothing displays on screen? Or that its on with everything displaying but tapping it does nothing?
Only when in contact with ears?

Its on, touch doesn't do anything. The phone is working since volume keys bring up the UI but you can't do anything. Also proximity sensor works, it turns on/off as I bring near ear. I don't have a screen protector.

I'm having a similar issue from the last month.. I'm on DP5
when i get a call most times the screen is off.
To answer the call i've to put on the screen, unlock the phone and then go to the heads up notification and choose answer there..
waiting for nougat final hoping it'll fix this.
Tried fiddling around with notifications importance setting.. it helped a little but then there was the annoying heads up showing along with the regular incoming call screen.
Sometimes (very rarely, has happened twice) the screen just remains black and will only work normally after a reboot.
Anybody have any suggestions?
I was having similar issues, also on the Developer Preview and I ended up noticing that the phone app was blocked from showing any notifications despite the fact that I never set it that way. I would hear the call ringing but would never see the screen to answer. Just changed that setting and everything was back to normal. Perhaps something is causing the phone app to fail to show notifications for you as well.
