So my screen turns off and can't be turned on if Im in the middle of a call, not a terrible issue BUT still annoying.
If for example, I have to input digits over the phone while I'm in call I won't be able to.
Flicking the phone, hitting buttons, shaking it, etc, etc won't do anything.
If my screen turns off mid call I must wait until the call is finished before the screen turns on again.
Anybody else experience this? Could it be a hardware error?
Someone mentioned it could be a problem with my case covering a sensor but I've been using it without the case for 2 days now and the issue persists.
A restart will fix the problem for a while but inevitably, it always comes back.
Are you using a screen protector? If so it may be covering a sensor.

No screen protectors or cases of any kind.
I DID freeze a bunch of apps using this guide.
I defrosted everything today, will post if screen turns off during calls again!
Hasn't happened on my X, but I have had that happen on my sgs3... Though, I never figured out why, my s3 was always a Frankenstein of kernel, firmware and mods. I think I just Odin back to stock and rerooted, recovery and flashed everything and it went away.

Mine does exactly the same thing. I do though have a screen protector. I will take it off and let you know how it is behaving. But once the call is finished I would reboot and then everything is ok until it acts up again.

If you are in a call and remove the phone from your face but still cover the proximity sensor or will keep the screen off.

When I am in a call, putting the phone to my face turns the screen off using the proximity sensor. However, removing the phone from my face does not turn the screen back on. Nothing turns it back on even if I push all the buttons or hold them or do anything unless the other person hangs up. I cannot remember when it started....before or after the recent update.....but it did start very recently. Any ideas? If I turn off the proximity sensor during calls it works fine by locking and unlocking the screen with the buttons.

Is anything covering the front facing camera, or light sensor? Like a case, bad screen protector, etc....
Does your front facing camera work just fine as a camera?
How about air gestures? Do they work?
I'm asking these things because it seems your proximity sensors aren't working properly. Your phone thinks it's next to your head all the time, so it's not waking the screen until the other person ends call. We need to find out which one is acting up and why.
The front camera works, but in my office it seems VERY sensitive to light. The lights are glaring heavily. I never use the front camera so I don't know if that's normally how it was. Air gestures work when the screen is on (swiping left and right to view my photos), but the quick glance won't work when the phone is locked. The weird thing is that quick glance works when I do the "try it" tutorial only.

Ok now it seems quick glance DOES work when the phone is off....I just couldn't do it correctly.
Main problem still exists though.

I was thinking that, but I'm tempted on resetting my phone and seeing if that helps. The problem is that I would lose all my app data and I'd hate to deal with that.

Unfortunately this sounds like a bad proximity sensor. This can be verified by testing the sensor by dialing *#0*#
I had this happen to my last Note 3. The only difference was I could turn the screen back on with the home button.

I tried that *#0*# test and I can activate the proximity sensor, but it seems to stay on after that.
This is a known issue with our phone. I had this issue myself. Plenty of times. Just call ATT and ask for a replacement.
Yeah I just found this:
http://forums.androidcentral.com/sa...-3-proximity-sensor-issue-during-calls-5.html
It's not a software issue use canned air and blow by the speaker and the headphone jack als o press on the back of the phone . This has happened to me

i stumbled upon this thread and took my phone apart and sure enough there was lint in it. in the dial pad using the *#0*# method, when i covered the sensor the screen would light green, vibrate, and stay that way after i moved my hand away. i cleaned it and everything is perfect!!!

Hello. During conversations I often unable to unlock the screen to hangup call or make other actions. Have someone experience same issue? Normally the screen should unlocked by double pressing on power button, right? Sometimes it takes to press 5-6 times before screen appear, it is normal? I experienced such issue on 4.3 and 4.4 with full wipes. Thanks in advance.
Solved by adding some glue where proximity sensor is located.

In the front right part of the phone, so there was bad contact. So if I pressed hard on that area proximity sensor became working, otherwise it was always turn on. Repairer a little bit opened front right part with the screen and added a little glue there. :good:
I have the Z3 compact and recently found when receiving calls my screen stays blank and does not display anything, notifcation led flashes and vibrates, as I cannot see who is calling I find I am having to press the power button to cut them off to see who it is in the notification bar to call back.
Any help would be great as been through settings, restarted, sim out, etc and still no change!?!

I have the same issue now, where/how did you enable the notifications from calls? I didn't disable anything...
Fixing Call Display
Had the same problem - goto Settings/Personalization/Manage Notifications
Select the "All" tab
Scroll down and turn on the InCallUI thingy that has the phone icon next to it
Done
Might be a little bit late, but maybe for others
worked pretty well on my Samsung S4.
download the app "proximity fix" from the playstore and run it.
Job done.
Hope that helps you or anyone who stumbles upon this!

My Z3 compact got black screen when calling and I tried all the above solutions with booting and repair of software. But the problem was due to loose screen. The glue did not hold the screen any longer. After regluing the screen, the problem was fixed:good:
I know why this happened - the display has started to peel off from top left corner - alignment of proximity sensor is messed during calls. The glue must have melted due to the phone heating up and the display must have lifted up a little.
To check if I'm right...press the screen ( top left - with your nail maybe) while making the call and the display will stay on. Please thank me of useful

im having this same exact problem right now and the same exact phone. My phone is also peeling off from the left corner and Im thinking maybe that's why it's causing these problems.
how did you re-glue back the screen.

honestly shame on sony. Such a big company that the ****ing glue is peeling off. Not even a chinese phone will do that. It's causing problems with my proximity sensor and even when i press the screen it still wont work and it only works rarely.
very frustrating problem.
My phone goes black after I dial a call. Ran tests and all sensors are not working. What do I do now?
Anyone else seem to have a problem with the ambient light/proximity sensor on their N6? I've noticed that a lot of times when i make calls, the screen won't shut off when i put the phone to my head... often with that resulting in my cheek touching something, and the person on the other end not being able to hear me. If i leave the phone at an angle against my ear so my cheek doesn't touch the screen, eventually the screen will shut off, but won't come on when i take the phone away from my ear, resulting in me having to press the power button to turn the screen back on.
Had that happen to me yesterday ... Rebooted and it hasn't happened today.

I'm having a issue now. Phone call comes in and screen stays on. I did a reboot, factory reset even installed custom ROM. It was working the other day. Anyway to calibrate this thing? Or do we have a bad sensor.
Also now my phone won't rotate screen.

Do any of you happen to have a screen protector on? As there have been some users that have been reporting issues with certain screen protectors. I believe most are tempered glass protectors that are the cause of the problems.
I took mine off and still nothing.

Did you try going to settings , accessibility , power button ends call, toggle that on and off.
We own two new Nexus 6 devices that are rooted and decrypted. We have the same issue where the phone screen stays on during a call. Rebooting fixes for a short period (hours or so) but the problem comes back. Other threads show this to be an issue with other phones (nexus 5) with Lollipop. Not sure of a fix. These devices are only a few weeks old so it is not a dust issue.
Having the same issue that just suddenly started. Rebooting does not seem to help.
Happening here too. Frustrating.
My screen turns off when taking the phone to the ear but it doesn't turn on again after i take it away from my ear.
It's pretty bad on my phone. The screen turns on when I am on a call making the notification bar drop down. Also, the phone doesn't wake up when I pull the phone away from my fasce 80% of the time. When I am on a call the phone randomly vibrates like I am getting a notification and when I look I have nothing. With all of this going on, making phone calls on this device is a nightmare.
Restore clean wipe did nothing.

The below mentioned fix is for brand new Nexus 6.
Did you try going to settings , accessibility , power button ends call, toggle that on and off.
After completing the above mentioned step. Reboot your phone and try making a call. I hope the issue get resolved.
I tried this step on an unrooted phone, which was recieved just yesterday.
I got this fix from some other thread.

What app
Orzly works fine... It doesn't cover the sensor. The Slimwrap orange vinyl (leather) face was a problem for me, had to enlarge the cutout to get suitable performance. I believe the sensor is longer than it is wide, the opposite of the factory cutout? It frames the face of the phone nicely with this screen protector on and I didn't want to take it off. The 24mm added height changes the profile of the phone alot, it no longer rests on the speaker bars/guards. This must also have effected placing the wrap on as well. The larger cutout box for the sesnor is a detractor, but the sensor works 100%. This is good , as it is my intention to run nekid with this phone but its size precludes using a case with any of the pockets I currently own.

Thanks I was just having a crazy time trying to install the front, similar case (glass protector in front) and ended up cutting a hole for the proximity sensor about 2 times the factory height, everything (seems) normal now. I used this program to help make the minimum cut, and align correctly. Did you run into any issues with the thin left & right vertical part of the front cover? Mine seems to "wrap" around the glass protector, not sure if it will stay there though
