Android Go for Nexus One? - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anyone consider getting Android Go version 8.0 running on the Nexus One given it meets the specs?? If love to use it as my daily driver for awhile for the nostalgia. #Trackball4life

It would be awesome if someone could pull this off. [emoji4]

[Q] Captivate jelly bean

Jelly bean has been made official and I'm here wondering if there's any devs out there planning on porting to cappy... or is everyone working on S3 ROMS?
Sent from my SGH-I897 using xda premium
I guess once it is on Nexus S - it will be ported by crafty ROM devs.
I hope so
Sent from my SGH-I897 using xda premium
No need to hope. This is xda. I have every confidence that it will be ported!
Also these amazing people on XDA are keeping my Cappy blazing fast and I will support them with at least a $10 donation. There work is allowing me to wait to upgrade for when the next nexus phone comes out.

I'd say don't upgrade until phone breaks. It will be just another Android, you can do the same things on Cappy today. I got S3 - I'm telling you.
Your right I know they will.. they already seem to be porting it to nexus S in sure they can port over to cappy
Sent from my SGH-I897 using xda premium
They are trying to port it to cappy now. I found a link to an irc channel that has a jelly bean test rom for the cappy. I couldn't figure out what was going on on the page I'm a real noob at this stuff. It was like a chat room. I was told it was under dev so I would have to wait :-( So its definitely being worked on. Hopefully soon I can feed my flash addiction

I'm sure somebody will make a port. That is one great thing about the Captivate is that it is pretty well supported. Helps that it is a galaxy s. I intend to use mine until it breaks or can't run the latest software.
Jelly bean
I will definitely wait eagerly for a CyanogenMod build of android 4.1.
The Samsung Captivate is now not only officially supported by AOKP, but the Captivate work in the AOKP effort is done by the creator of the ROM, roman, and not just some random volunteer developer.
Work on a Jelly Bean based AOKP will begin once the official Jelly Bean source is released.
I thought all the galaxy s work was maintained by sixstringsg and Stephen.k.spear. I could be wrong though.

I really miss my Captivate when I visit this section of the forum. It really was a burly piece of hardware and I now keep it around to flash with the newest ROMs to check them out. Can't wait to see what the Devs come up with in regards of JB.
I find it pretty remarkable that the devs here keep up the porting for a phone that's 2+ years old, considering all the new devices out today. But I'm fully convinced that it'll be ported.
I wish my cappy was still working (suffered from the Encryption Unsuccessful issue) I kinda miss using it sometimes when I see it sitting on my desk. If it was working I would love to test out some JB roms for it.
Can't wait! Getting ICS on my phone was such a big improvement in smoothness and speed and knowing JB is focused on just that makes me want it now!!
Looking forward to install JB on my phone once it is available.

Since Jelly Bean is a minor update of ICS, i think will be several roms for cappy.
AOSP officailll!
We’re releasing Android 4.1 in AOSP today.
The name of the tagged release is android-4.1.1_r1.
The name of the development branch is jb-dev.
We recommend that you create new clients, even if you’re working in the master branch. It’ll make your clients smaller and faster to sync.
Proprietary binaries are available for Nexus 7 and Galaxy Nexus. Nexus S and Xoom will follow.

Software wise, that's mostly true. Hardware wise, not so much. I wouldn't upgrade for the next version of android, but I do upgrade for better camera's, more application memory, faster processor, nfc, better display, etc.
Mkalter has build JB for Galaxy S. And our Cappy not too far to experience JB

[q] aosp aokp paranoid

Im not a big fan of sense although i love htc devices i was wondering is a aosp 4.2 rom or anything similar in the works? waiting till next paycheck to go buy a one and switch to sprint hoping i get to flash aokp awesome roms in the near future
Nothing as of yet. There are devs working on CM 10.1 but knowing one of them from past devices, I know for a fact that it will not be released until its a very stable daily driver. Once thats going, other AOSP ROMs will follow. Remember, AOKP and Paranoid need to be ported to pretty much any device that isnt a Nexus.
Thanks I'm looking forward to flashing that.

Project Proposal fir the devs!

I have a proposal that might get a good bit of hate but I want to see If any devs would work with me on it.
I want a port if HTC Sense 6 to the N5.
But can It even happen? I mean you see stock ported all the time but could you port something like sense?
That would be awesome

Spread the word if you want it to happen get devs involved!!

"stock" doesnt get ported to any nexus device, since they run "stock" default. to port sense to a nexus is extremely hard as it needs htc's framework, and if it does happen it would be partially if any bit at all. this will take lots of time and effort! and considering sense is not open source, you will not have any direct access to its code. anyways, considering that people are still trying to port the last version of sense, i wish you good luck.
I encourage all development but this might be quite difficult with closed sources and the framework. If XpLoDWilD can hack into the snap dragon processor and enable always listening from the low powered core then this is possible as well. I doubt devs of that caliber will focus on porting sense to a specific device non htc device though.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
well, you need damn good smali and hex knowledge, as you need to modify the bootstrap in a special lib and add support for s800 ://
it is possible but hard to achieve (well, last word is maybe incorrect, im sorry for that )
Best regards,
OldDroid
I doubt that you will ever see it happen. Which is too bad because of all of the different overlays Sense is by far the best. Unfortunately HTC is not particularly forthcoming with the source code for, well....anything. Having come from the Amaze (Ruby) HTC proved to be very difficult to deal with.
this would be amazing.. loved sense 6 the second I saw it.. but it would be great even if I got a kind of launcher at least. Stock android is great too
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app
Sense is closed source.
They are releasing blinkfeed in the playstore in the coming weeks/ months. You could easily download a sense like launcher and icons. I did play with the newest m8 at the ATT store and I can say I was very impressed. You could also make the clock widget in zooper, combine all that with blinkfeed and you have yourself an almost sense experience.
Go buy the "new" HTC One
Not that simple when you don't have a job

It's possible, but it would be extremely difficult and would require reverse engineering of the libs and some binaries, as well as likely needing a fully modified kernel and ramdisk. By the time it got fully stable, if it ever did, we would probably be at the release of sense 7.

Good job! I came here to link to that thread.
For anyone confused by the title, check out this post in the thread.
In my several years on XDA, I've seen a few attempts to port OEM skins (usually Sense and Touchwiz) to devices from other manufacturers. Of those attempts, exactly zero of them were successful. As much as I'd like to see this (and I would - Sense is actually pretty awesome), it's just not going to happen.

This is really cool, and I hope it ends up working. As of right now, it's only partially functional, which is about as far as most of these ports get.
Don't get me wrong - I'm pretty excited about the possibility of this. It's just that I've seen a lot of these before, and they always end up going dead after a promising start. Here's to hoping this one is different.

Agree, best rom I have ever used, smooth and clean.
I've been using cataclysm since release, and still use it today.
Smoothest rom I've ever used.
Would be awesome if it gets updated to 4.4.3:good:
Been on Cataclysm since I got my Nexus 5. Love it. Amazing rom and would rather not have to move to get 4.4.3.

Atl4ntis has made my n5 experience with cataclysm. If he has the time a 4.4.3 upgrade would be much appreciated. In any event very grateful for this ROM.
Agree, it's amazing ROM. I sent an E-Mail to Atl4ntis with request to continue his work, hope he will reply soon.
Yes 4.4.3 would be awesome.

Ive been on this Rom ever since it appeared. But the author seems to be inactive. Hope he will come back soon.
I updated to 4.4.3 with GravityBox but I miss a lot of features. It was just perfect to me. So lets hope the best.

I'm in love with Cataclysm since Galaxy Nexus )) @atl4ntis, 4.4.3 please :good:
I would love an update but if it doesn't get updated, I'm still sticking with this ROM. Unless I'm missing something I don't see anything special with 4.4.3 so I don't see a point in moving on to another ROM.
Hasn't atlantis been MIA for a long while now?
I'm in the same boat. This was the first rom I flashed on my N5. I've since flashed a few others but keep coming back to this one. Cataclysm paired with Franco kernel is outstanding. I'd love to see this rom updated.:good:
Would love to see Cataclysm updated to 4.4.3. Best ROM for N5 for sure! Tried many others, but always comes back to this ROM.

I most certainly agree. @atl4ntis please update your amazing ROM for us!
Let hope. I remember last updated were quick.

I'm personally not the best at doing such.... But honestly in going to try and learn on this one a bit more in depth please to anyone who has a more in depth knowledge I truly want to learn it's my dream. If i can take part in the development of my favorite OS on my Favorite phone I'd be the happiest. Thanks again
