note 3 powers on but the screen is black - AT&T Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hallo,
black screen of my Samsung Galaxy Note 3 SM-N900.
I can enter recovery mode and download mode and the screen is work normally, and when charging, the screen display green battery charging, so the screen is not broken and well connected.
but when turning on my note 3, the screen remain black even I hear start up sounds and touch sound and see the LED lights.
I did booting, wipe data factory reset and wipe cache and flashing.. but still note work!!
what is the reason that the screen work in download and recovery mode.. and not work when I power on the device!
any suggestions?
thanks in advance

I guess you should download the latest firmware for your phone (from sites like sammobile.com) and use odin to flash that downloaded firmware on your phone. Guides for using odin are shown on youtube. Just make sure that the firmware is for your variant of the Note 3 or you might end up bricking your device.

You have the sm-900 or sm-900a? Big difference between the two phones.

I already flash my note 3 using odin, and also did full repaire firmware for 4 files(AP, BL, CP and CSC), still same problem

Flash the firmware as s single file with Odin 3.07. Are you performing a factory reset before booting the phone for the first time?

i perform factory reset after flashing and remaining black screen.. then I did wipe data and factory reset still black screen.. I did flashing again, then full repair firmware for 4 files(AP, BL, CP and CSC), still same problem.

You always get a pass in Odin when you flashed the firmware a single file? You're flashing the latest ROM? If the answer is yes to both questions, it sounds like a hardware problem.

yes for both question :crying: .. but why screen work in recovery mode and download mode if there is hardware issue!

Drivers are not being loaded in recovery or download mode.

Then it's most probably a hardware issue, though not a serious one, since you obviously can see the screen when in download or recovery mode.

[Q] No boot, no samsung logo, no download mode

Ok i put my device into download mode with picture then flashed my i9000 with http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1160580
i now know this was the wrong FW for my device since then i cannot boot my phone normally nor get into download mode with the picture
it works fine just if i pull battery or turn off the phone
all i get is a black screen with "home & back buttons lit up"
however when i attach my device to odine it recognizes the phone first time
i dont have to do anything, i've tried flashing stock FW
same result black screen buttons lit up no DL mode with pic no boot
i've tried flashing FW with sbl success odine tells me,
no luck again, also when i try to flash 3 files
it always hangs then fails on modem, however if i flash allinone it works
but only boots with odine & not on its own & without samsung boot image
i can flash modem on its own via psa tab with success, i've also tried the jig to get into normal DL mode, but to no avail
also when i plug usb cable in & take out battery phone turns off
its like the usb is not a power source, ive tried on my laptop, ac adapter & pc all same result
to summerise:
i can flash my phone however if i turn off device i it will not boot
on its own & have to reflash via odine but with no boot logo only sounds
im thinking the only solution is samsung service centre but i can hazard a guess the price of a new mobo will prob be the same as the phone its self secondhand on ebay
any ideas? thanks
P.S when i flash 2 or more files i use pit 512, what if i didnt use a pit or used a different one would it make a difference?
P.P.S kies does recognize device once its flashed but cant find any updates on FW
would doing an emergency restore with an .sbu file fix this boot issue?
& where could i get an .sbu file from as i didnt do a backup
Did you also check “repartition“ in odin when you flash with the pit file?
It sounds like you've toasted the bootloader flashing a wrong firmware. But since you can get Odin connected and flash you might be able to recover.
You'll need to flash a stock firmware with bootloaders, Darky RE should have bootloaders. Follow the instructions on the page.
Good luck
In fact if you can't go into DL mode you can use a thing called JIG repair.
you'll need a 300K resistor (which exactly 301K) and a micro-USB plug.

It works for me!

What ansonscleung linked to is a Jig, Jtag is something completely different all together. If Odin won't recover your phone, I can't guarantee the jig will work. Although it will help getting to download mode and maybe help flashing the proper firmware.

You're correct, guy. A JIG cost about HK$15.5 ($15 for a Micro USB port and $0.5 resistor) (approx. US$1.99 €1.5 not incl. transportation fee) or spend US$8 here.
Hope you can pass through those stuff and enjoy back your phone!

[Q] Issue on GT-N7000

Hi Team XDA,
I am facing issues with my GT-N7000
1. I was running on Slim saber 4.4.4 with TWRP
2. I flashed CWM 6.0.4.5 in TWRP and after restart my phone went in to Bootloop.
3. Then I restarted my phone on Download mode and flashed Stock Rom 4.1.2 from Sam Mobile on my GT-N7000 using Odin
4. It Stuck on Samsung logo again
5. I was trying to boot recovery mode but it was not booting (to wipe Data/Cache/Dalvik Cache)
6. I am able to start phone in Download Mode only and not Recovery mode. (using Hardware Keys)
Can anyone help me out coming out of this. I still believe if i can wipe my data/Dalvik/System Cache using ODIN my phone will start.

kinda strange issue,
usually if you've already flashed the original Samsung firmware, it will come together with "built-in" recovery which "possible" to be access in any circumstances,
hmmm, try to do odin again, with different frimware version from different country (I also didn't use my own country firmware) :silly:
by default, try to disable "auto-reboot" option on the odin,
once you've complete flashed the firmware, try to remove the battery for moment, and boot into recovery,
should be working
give it a try, I used to do it in my S Plus, :silly:

hmm, strange, however I did do some research for this kind of issues,
and most of my finding stated it might to do with hardware issues (case where unable to boot normally, only download mode),
however, I do believe you can try with older version of firmware (probably last year?)
and try disable "auto-reboot" on the odin,
upon odin stated "reset" quickly pull out the battery (providing the screen is completely closed/off)
and try to reboot into recovery mode by it combinational keys, "volume up + home + power" (hold it a bit longer till samsung logo disappear) :silly:
I've even try to soft-bricked my S Plus, and try this one, seems I can boot both normally and recovery (to do wipe)

It is pretty hard to brick these phones. Just in case you have a bad file or something. Grab the zip and follow these instructions. I know that all these files in this zip are good so it is worth a shot.
Even if you know what you are doing, follow the instructions exactly, you may be overlooking something. It happens to everyone sometimes.

After you odin whichever firmware you flashed, wait about 10 min or so on that boot screen that is stucked. Then pull the battery out. Go into stock recovery but power+home+vol up. Then select wipe data/reset. Reboot and it should boot just fine.
At least that's how i fixed my phone that stuck few times like what you going through.

The problem is my phone can not access to stock recovery or TWRP recovery. It just stuck at first bootscreen which is shown "Samsung Galaxy Note 4 powered by Android", then restart and stuck again. So that I can not wipe data or reset to fix.

Since you can still get into download mode, what happens if you flash TWRP through ODIN? Step 10 in the instructions I posted assuming it is still rooted or start at step 8 if not. Just to see if you can get recovery working again.

Hard Bricked my Note 5 :)

Hi all,
I was running Custom ROM on my Galaxy Note 5. (Minosauras ROM v10)
Suddenly today morning the display was garbled with coffee stain pixels and while tried powering on I also had vertical glitch.
No recovery , no download mode
I tried connected to ODIN. I could do it.
Downloaded Stock firmware and flashed it.
Alas ! No chance of life.
a) can anyone give me PIT file for Indian version 32GB.
I tried using N920G UUB and ZTO pit file.
Now I have problems flashing system.img which clearly means I have been using the wrong pit file.
Can anyone support me out of this hard brick ?

What does 'No recovery; no download mode' even mean? Pit file doesn't fix the bricked phone but correct the pit(csc) mapping. Do you exactly know how to get into download mode though? If your display has been damaged, it still can get into download mode by the correct button combination.

Hi , The problem is the display is garbled and the LED was showing various colors.
I tried recovery button combination to force into recovery. It didnt work.
I tried download mode (No download symbol)
But got a attachment to ODIN (COM 1: Blue)
I assumed that the bootloader is corrupt and loaded entire firmware through ODIN.
Everything was OK. But no display yet.
I tried starting using power button (Nothing on display)
Now I try PIT file.... System.img failed flashing.
Tried loading TWRP recovery; adb found 2 devices a) Device b) Recovery
Tried using Heimdall.
Now ODIN fails after using pit file once which failed.
Mine gets detected in ODIN and that is all the life it has.

If you used an incorrect PIT file when you really didn't need to then you probably corrupted your entire partition table..

Should I repartition through dd tool only ?
Anyhow since my patience went away, I threw it down a service center.
Service center called me up and said display is back, but couldnt restore my note.
Calls for mother board change ! So I got it thrown back to me !!
It seems now my display is back , can anyone help me in getting my note repartitioned ?

Galaxy S10 bootloop after updte to Android 10

This morning I saw that I can update to the new Android 10 version on my Galaxy S10.
I was happy and of course updated directly.
Everything worked fine, the update was downloaded, installed and the phone rebooted.
And from there it hung in a boot loop.
I had already unlocked the bootloader 2 months ago, but only to flash the original firmware again because of an unsuccessful attempt to install TWRP.
Now the Galaxy S10 starts up, shows the information that the boot loader has been unlocked and then the boot logo and vibrates.
Then it goes straight off and starts again.
I cannot use the key combinations to get into the recovery or in the download mode.
How can I solve this problem ?
(Sorry for my bad englisch i come from germany)
You can try following:
Plug your phone in the PC with the USB cable. Then press/hold Bixby + Volume Down and hopefully it will boot to download-mode.
Otherwise try (still plugged in) force shutdown/restart by pressing/ holding Volume Down + Power - as soon as the screen turns off shift to pressing/ holding Bixby + Volume Down for download-mode. Try it at few times as its all about timing.
If still no luck, unplug your phone and let the battery run out. Then press/hold Bixby + Volume Down and plug in to get to download-mode. This may take some time as the phone needs to recharge a little before it reacts.
Once in download-mode flash your software before the update via Odin - I would use Home_CSC first trying to save your data.
Got exactly the same problem today. Don't know which one I flashed in november though
So how to keep (maybe) the data? flash only HOME_CSC?

Yes to using Home_CSC but to be safe I would flash all 4 files (AP - BL - CP - HomeCSC) as some people have reported their storage gets corrupted/ shows wrong capacity.
Use either Samsung 10 (BSKO) or latest Pie (ASJG). Both should be ok as you are flashing the bootloader when using all 4 files.

Didn't work for me, neither ASJG (Pie) nor BSKO (Q).
Had to wipe data, beause system nerver booted again.

I flashed G973FXXS3ASJG to my Galaxy S10.
First i tried only homeCSC but it was still brick.
Then i flashed only AP, it worked.
But after I set up my smartphone again, I saw that I only have 32 GB of storage even though my Galaxy S10 is the 128 GB version.
Then, as you said, I flashed all four files (AP - BL - CP - HomeCSC).
It still shows me that I only have 32 GB of storage

When I first read your post I thought:
Seriously…. Seriously…..
I mean, why the heck would you only flash one file (you were actually warned against this) when it is just as easy to fill-out all 4 slots in Odin? People amaze me!
Okay its Xmas, so back to helping:
‘What you have experienced is a side-effect of using Odin to flash an AP file to your device with the CSC slots left empty. Never flash a full AP file on this range of devices without also filling at least the HOME_CSC slot. It is safe, however, to flash only a recovery image in the AP slot.
To attempt to repair the damage, you need to boot to TWRP, select Advanced Wipe, tick Data, select Repair or Change File System followed by Resize File System. Your /data will return to its former size, but you will probably find you have lost some data.’
Above is quoted from #ianmacd
So, if your phone is on stock Pie (minimum ASIG), with OEM unlocked, try this to get TWRP installed in order to use above rescue.
Go here and download Multidisabler: https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...ynos/g97xf-multi-disabler-encryption-t3919714
Go here and download TWRP Magisk Patched: https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...ynos/recovery-twrp-galaxy-s10-magisk-t3919248
Now read post #2 in the TWRP thread for installation guidance…. When you get to no.10 flash the Multidisabler you downloaded instead and then skip to no.12
After no.12 reboot, boot back into TWRP and try the Data fix above.
If all goes well you will have full storage capacity again, TWRP installed and rooted with Magisk.

Yeah, I can see you have started a thread with your problem.
If the first two of my suggestions doesnt work for you then you have to let the phone bootloop until the battery dies/ runs dry and then try my third suggestion.

Hey Bro, I bricked my phone as well in the morning while updating to android 10 but I just had my bootlocker unlocked but no root on it. Could you tell me if there is any possibility to backup the stuff on my phone? Right not Im waiting for my battery to drain to 0% that I can get into download mode and try something out maybe you have a tip for me
Can someone send me a prepatched magisk ap file for HK 9730 Android 10. I don't know what I did. I just pre patched it myself and flashed with odin just like ANY other update but this time, it gets stuck at Samsung logo. I waited a good while too. Maybe I didn't have the right magisk version which is why I'm asking if someone has a pre patched that works, idk but I don't want to lose my data.

My suggestion is to download the complete stock firmware- be it Pie or 10 (Q) - and then when flashing all 4 files via Odin use the Home_CSC file to try to retain your data.
I use FRIJA to download firmwares as the d/l speed is very good.
Bear in mind, if you at some point intend to root and/or install TWRP your phone will be wiped in the process so backup your stuff before going down that road.
Hi, i have the same problem, i can't access to download mode, i have access to twrp recovery but i can't do anything, if i touch the recovery screen, the phone reboot, have you any suggestion please, to recover my phone?

I am also experiencing this issue that the OP is having with their S10. I also have an S10. There was a software update for my phone and now I wake up to my phone boot looping itself to death.
For someone that lives in the United States, which firmware should I use to recover my phone? I ask because there is like 20+ countries to choose from for the exynos G973F model
Norup58 You saved my life!!!! LOVE YOU. i got into download mode THANKS MAN

Hello,
I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 9 (SM-N9600) that will not boot. So far I have flashed 2 official firmwares with Odin, and on the first boot attempt after flashing, it will show a percentage bar that counts up to around 5 or so percent before skipping to 100 then looping again. It only does the percentage thing on the first boot after flashing. When I try a factory reset from the recovery I get a no pdp scenario error also. I have tried all that I can think of and even took it to a Samsung Service centre but no solution. I would really appreciate any help I can get.
