I want to build a custom kernel and then a native program some sort of daemon.
I want to get original kernel with my modifications.
How to setup build environment?
Which host OS to use for development?
Which compiler?
I found samsung kernel repository in android sources and I've got sources from opensource.samsung.com (froyo + update_JPM + update2)
So which sources to use for my Galaxy S?
Is there are any guides to build kernel and native root level applications (mods, daemons, drivers ...)?

I had the previous version and the kernel did not support OTG nor MHL. And I'm currently using the stock 4.3 + DooMKernel (v13) and oh yes i have support for these features. so i was wondering if anyone has tested the OTG and MHL rom?
I am rookie in kernel matters, hence asking some basic questions about CM13 and EMUI 3.1/4,
1. Does any ROM supports USB OTG?
2. Does any ROM supports CIFS?
Add-on question: is it possible to implement CIFS by importing/copying cifs.ko module from other ROM/kernel?

CW 13 has USB OTG mode as well as emui 3.1/4.0

1. I have already tried CIFS manager (link you have provided), and as it states, kernel/rom should have CIFS module, which i think, is not available for Honor4x device (bcos kernel source is not disclosed, i guess).
I installed CM12.1 & 13 both, but USB OTG doesnt work.
I don't understand combination you have mentioned. Can you pls elaborate? Does this work for Che1-L04?
Any comments from experts about feasibility of CIFS, are well appreciated..

So if there is power output issue then it can be solved by otg Y cable with external power source. But we need a kernel or some modules for our device.
Lenovo p1ma40 runs on Android 5.1. And I want to use MagiskHide but am unable to do so, as , "Pre 6.0 kernels are very likely to have no mount ns procfs support, which is required for MagiskHide to work properly. This Linux kernel feature is only required to be added in Android 6.0."
So, as stated at xda forums, we need to rebuild the kernel with the required patch (https://lore.kernel.org/patchwork/patch/217023/). And set
CONFIG_NAMESPACES=y. My question is : 1) How do I patch the kernel source code(pls give exact steps)? 2)How do I flash the modified kernel? 3) do I need to unlock bootloader to do so?
