OnePlus 6: Rumors :) Updated 24.12.2017 - OnePlus 5 Guides, News, & Discussion

OnePlus 6 to Feature Advanced Face Recognition Technology:
OnePlus 6 will feature advanced face recognition technology, according to a reliable tipster.
OnePlus copying the features from an iPhone isn’t something new. In fact, the firm’s first 2017 flagship – OnePlus 5 – featured a rear panel that was scarily similar to that of the iPhone 7 Plus. But, so what? The phone was undoubtedly the best you could get for a $500 price tag.
Fast forward to today, we now have a OnePlus 5T with an all-screen front design and a FaceID-inspired Face Unlock feature. Speaking of the Face Unlock feature on the 5T, I could say without a speck of doubt that it’s much faster than the FaceID. However, it doesn’t support payment authorization which, in my opinion, is sort of a bummer for a flagship phone.
As we march towards 2018, we’re starting to hear a lot of rumors about the forthcoming phones including Samsung Galaxy S9, LG G7, and Sony Xperia XZ1 Premium; but nothing about the OnePlus 6 have been heard so far. Sure, the next OnePlus smartphone won’t launch within at least 5 months from now. But, that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t hear any rumors about the handset, especially when the firm has already started working on it.
According to a reliable tipster, OnePlus has plans to integrate advanced face recognition technology on the OnePlus 6 to take on the FaceID feature of the iPhone X. Further, the tipster also told that the hardware setup will be similar to that of the iPhone X and that the OP6 will make use of an infrared 3D camera module, which will be located on the front of the device. He also added that the handset won’t feature a notch similar to the iPhone X as the whole setup would be located on the top bezel.
As with most rumors, we suggest you take this with a pinch of salt.

OnePlus 6 Could Release Early In 2018, Underglass Fingerprint Sensor Expected
OnePlus ‘ 5T launch in November wasn’t a surprise given that the company did the same last year. However, the phone could be one of the shortest flagships launched recently as our source has given us a few details about the upcoming OnePlus 6 flagship. While some might say that it is too early to call this phone as upcoming, our source reveals that OnePlus is planning to launch the OnePlus 6 as early as March of 2018. The launch is said to be sometime in the middle of March, with the phone becoming available by the end of the month.
As for the specs, our source reveals that the OnePlus 6 will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset. This isn’t surprising given that Oneplus flagships are known to come with the latest flagship chips from Qualcomm. However, our source further adds that the phone will feature an underglass fingerprint sensor. The current OnePlus 5T features the fingerprint sensor on the back, which isn’t really an ideal position. Many prefer the sensor on the front and an underglass fingerprint sensor would make things easier as it can easily be installed on the front without having the sacrifice the full-screen design.
It might be too early to say that the above information is going to be 100% true, but it is worth mentioning that our source has been right about OnePlus flagships before. We revealed details of the OnePlus 5T smartphone way before anyone else and we are pretty confident that the above information is also solid.

My bet is it will be released in about... 6 months. The 6t to follow six months after that...and so on and so on until they alienate their user base and any company that wants to make accessories.
Soon to be folllowd by TwoPlus which will custom make monogrammed phones with a 3 month lifespan and no customer service.

If they're gonna put an IR camera in it then it'll probably support AR too.

I read about it. Could be on march 2018. And it will be with new features.

wait im confused cause you seem serious. is this something thats really expected to happen? is there actually going to be a twoplus company?

be nice if the 6t came out same time. do all the t versions come out 3-6 months later?

What I want for the OnePlus 6, otherwise I probably won't buy it:
18:9 1080x2160 AMOLED Screen or 18:9 1440 x 2880 AMOLED
60Hz refresh rate
sd card expansion slot (maybe instead or even in addition to dual sim, but OnePlus wants to sell more 128GB models of course)
stereo speakers
3.5mm headphone jack
Dash charge, my favourite feature
what would be nice, but if they don't do it it's not a deal breaker:
water proof
fingerprint scanner under the screen (I honestly don't care where it is located)
better camera, maybe the op5 telescopic lense
OIS in addition to EIS
a slightly more powerful battery
what I don't need:
no headphone jack, don't let jack die!
more ram, I think 6-8gb is more than enough for Android

Lg v30 vs note 8

I already own a note 8 but the v30 is a very beautifull device. Even more than the note 8. Looks to be much more comfortable to use. Not sure about software since i never owned a lg phone. Would u even consider giving up ur note 8 for the lg v30.
I would not consider giving up my Note 8 for the V30. However it's a very subjective question. The V30 may be more suitable for those that want something a little smaller. I had the V20 a few months back and enjoyed that device.

Only if the V30 comes with an S-pen.
For me, it's always 3 priorities... Screen, camera, battery.
I had a good play with the v30. Beautiful, but the screen in the Samsung is simply better IMHO. it just pops.
Camera.. I love the bokeh effect. Can't do that on the v30 (unless omeone gets the pixel 2 camera to work on it). And I have had nothing but excellent results on the note 8 so far. I do think the Mate 9 did bokeh best though.
Battery. Tough one. It's basically not good on the note. They never are.
Actually I can't wait to see the Mate 10. Much bigger battery, comparable screen and hopefully better night capability than mate 9.

Oh yes, one other thing. I think Samsung nailed their software this year. First time i have EVER stuck with TouchWiz. And the email and calendar apps are great. LG software still looks worse IMHO.
I had the V20 and it was nothing to write home about. LGs phones always have hype and then when you get one it's just ....ok. If you think the V30 looks better than the Note 8 you need to see a doctor. I have had the LG Gpro the G4 and the V20 I was disappointed in all of them. LG is not on par with Samsung at all. This is coming from experience. The V30 might compare to the S8+ but not the Note 8 stop smoking.
Speaking about the hardware, the V30 is generally more comfortable to use size and weight-wise. It has better battery life and DACs.
Is it a better phone than the Note 8 technologically speaking? No.
If I already owned a Note 8 would I move to V30 believing it to be the all around better phone? No.
I do think that the V30 is a great phone and wins in the particular categories mentioned above (ignoring the S Pen for comparison sake). If you want something smaller the V30 isn't a bad choice at all.

I might get it tomorrow on tuesday. I still have a week to.be able to return the note. I love the note hardware and smoothness but the size is to tall. Spen i dont use but i do love what samsung has done with touchwiz and the ecosystem. Will try both and see which one i keep.
This is the same thing people were saying about the V10 and the V20 and both were disappointing. What makes y'all think the V30 is going to be any different. My V20s battery life sucked! I was lucky to get 3 hrs of OST.
Im not the type of person who needs to buy every new toy I see, so no.
I'll have my note 8 probably until the note 10, longer than that if the note 8 is still performing and nothing else impresses me.

Also the V30 has that same design like the S8+ with them wide corners. I am not a fan of that look.
The Note 8 is exactly what it says in the title. The main point of the Note is the S-pen with upgraded RAM. I see the Note 8 as more akin to a micro pocket PC with the S-pen as the mouse. :good:
The LG V30 is geared toward the video taker and music enthusiast. :good:
Trying to compare apples and oranges again ad nauseam.
By definition the 'standard' S8 is the direct comparison to the LG V 30 IF one insists on comparing.

That's what I think this partly is (No disrespect to the OP). And while the V30 is a flagship phone that is more manageable in hand, I don't think it should be a direct comparison as others have mentioned (even taking away the S Pen). Still, the note 8 is the benchmark for all android phones to be compared to, whether they deserve it or not. That speaks to the high quality and regard the Note 8 is held.
Unless a person found the Note 8 too unwieldy, I don't see why you would move to the V30.
Why not get both and dual wield? If the op thinks note 8 is too long, then the op will love the v30 feel in hand. I find both camera useful . maybe next year we ll get wide angle and zoom? I have a love towards big and powerful phone, so I'll never give up the note 8. Samsung, had to pry the note 7 from me . Lg finally caught up to Samsung build quality with the v30. The v30 is what the g6 should have been and directly compete with the s8-s8+. V30 ahould have 6gb ram, 128gb memory, 6.2 screen to really compete with the note 8.

There seems to be a lot of hype from tech sites and bloggers about the V30. But I strongly believe it's all about bashing Samsung. There's a human trait to want to knock down a peg or two, any person (or in this case, company) that appears to be popular.
Along comes LG (with let's face it, a decent phone that ticks many boxes), so an ideal opportunity to give it hefty praise when pitting it against a rival like the Note 8. The anti-Samsung lobby seize the opportunity to troll the comments sections on reviews and YouTube channels.
But ultimately I believe the Note 8 has the better overall specs and the screen... is pure perfection.

Sure u do lol. U might get ALMOST 6 or 6hrs. Using a few battery saving tweaks like "location on battery saving mode" ur previous posted and battery SOT screenshot dont lie. But hey. Note 8 does have great battery. Lg v30 seems to beat it out in all battery test. Not really enough to make a huge different

Like i said before. Im looking for a long term phone not the new shinny phone that is release. Reason for the question is that i own the note 8 but still on 8 days to be able to return and get the v30. The note 8 is better. But v30 have alot going on, better design more comfortable smaller design. Non curve screen. Face to unlock with screen off. Hifi dac, etc. Much cheaper. To me wide angle and hifi dac are more usefull than s pen and telefoto. Again. Personal opinion base on my everyday use
First LG V30 needs to be available worldwide then I can at least consider it. Happy Note 8 customer here
The only consideration for a V30 vs. N8 that I have entertained as a T-Mobile customer is the 600MHz support the V30 offers. But then again the deployment in that spectrum won't be completed until 2019. As others have posted, they had to pry the N7 from my hands twice last year. And only then I had to go the V20 route. While I enjoyed using it for the most part, there were weird slowdowns, glitches, screen banding, especially towards the end of a year's usage. From all online reviews I see so far, the V30 UI is similar to the V20's, which does not feel spectacular compared to the N8. There's more refinement and forward thinking in Samsung's offering, and the little details are appreciated in long term use. Yes, the V30s DAC and wide angle camera are perhaps the only overall higher points of that phone. But when I had the V20, that offered those similar enhancements, I rarely if ever used them.
There's a few good videos stating that the V30s screen though better that anything else LG has used to date, still has weird banding, or not bright enough (600 Nits vs. 1000).
At the end of the day, you're staring at the screen all the time, and all these phones are all screen now.
The N8 has the best screen in 2017, bar none (iPhone X and pixel 2XLs included).
You may want to hold on to your supersized screen monster...

Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8 0 with S Pen 2019 LTE (SM-P205)
1. Unboxing & Impressions - https://youtu.be/Jzic9JeDBdE
I am surprised that this Galaxy Tab A 8.0 is more closer related to Nexus 7 than the previous model it replaces. It should be on a buy list for anyone wanting to replace their Nexus 7 or Tab A 8.0 2015. Other than the limited 32GB storage size, I absolutely think is is a great budget tab at less than 250USD.
2. Camera Photos & Videos - https://youtu.be/nirrHFIWLWw
This tab blew me away by being able to edit videos and export to 4K. It's punching way above the budget price point. Why didn't Samsung give this a minimum 64Gb storage instead of just 32GB. This is a great little budget tab for on the move YouTubers.
Note: All photos 3264 x 2448 dpi and videos 1920 x 1080 @ 288 kbps shot with this tablet, edited and exported to 4K via Cyberlink Powerdirector Android mobile paid app.
3. Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8 0 2019 Water Battery Gaming Test - https://youtu.be/KTR2U4jKXVo
Samsung Tab A 8 0 2015 - 4hrs 10mins (4 years old battery) vs Samsung Tab A 8 0 2019 - 6hrs 10mins (new battery)
4. World's Tallest Rain Waterfall at Jewel Changi Airport - Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.0 2019 shot & edit this video. Use Cinema FV-5 to unlock the camera dpi. Samsung could had enabled this camera with EIS but they didn't such a waste! https://youtu.be/ykL4lavuEok

5. Unboxing Hands-on a 3rd party Wireless Keyboard Cover for the Samsung Tab A 8.0 with Spen 2019 P200 & P205 models. Simple easy to setup and use bluetooth magnetic keyboard cover. This is most suitable for work on the go paired with the Spen nothing can stop you from finishing your work. https://youtu.be/fUeCzhR6WlY

Yep. This one nailed it! I couldn't ask for a better way to wake up the screen especially when its lying flat. :highfive:
This tab looks really good!
Can it actually make phone calls? (voice calls/ gsm calls)
If it can (and it has the proper earspeaker), then I could see this being my primary phone.
I only ever make calls around once a month anyway.
TLDR; Can this tablet make phone calls like a normal phone?
Yes the LTE model P205. They also sell the wifi model P200 so don't get the wrong model.
Anyone know which region firmware is best for usa?
My tablet is using tgy code which apparently is hong kong region.
I'm not having any issues but if another one is better then I'll download and flash.
is DEX installed?

In the specs it lists an RGB light sensor. Can anyone verify that the screen brightness adjusts automatically based on ambient light? (This is a feature that most inexpensive tablets don't have).
Thanks!

I can confirm that there is an adaptive brightness setting that will dim the screen in low-light conditions.
how to root?
does it have a fingerprint reader? I presume not. I'm going to order anyway, with LTE. I wish Samsung also had a model without the S-pen. I'm not using it, and I could save some cost.
On the other hand, given the confusing array of tablets all named Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8", the presence of the S-pen is a nice distinguishing feature. Yesterday, I was standing in a respectable shop and I was unable to tell whether the tablet I was holding was 2017 or 2019.
Any idea where to buy the tablet? It's not available in the US and the only website I found was some sketchy foreign site that's based in Hong Kong. Would love to have this tablet just to doodle and mess with, and especially since I'm heading to Alaska for vacation in August. Don't wanna bring my laptop (which was $1600) in fear of losing it. The price was really good on the website (it was listed as US $240, I believe), but I don't want to risk it, and Carphone Warehouse doesn't seem to have it yet after I looked around on their site.
If it gets to be too much of a hassle, though, I might just bite the bullet and get the 10.1 size 2016 version just so I could have the S Pen. It's a bit more expensive at $330, but I think it's still a good value, IMO.
hi Pegasus, yesterday I ordered the tablet from presumably the same website you saw:
https://www.tobydealsau.com/en_AU/product/samsung-galaxy-tab-a-8-sm-p205-3gb-32gb-lte-gray-3.html
I'm in Australia and for us the name of the website ends with AU, as if it was some local outfit. I also saw a similar name ending in UK.
I hope it arrives by end of the month. It is indeed cheap, but no so cheap to leave it in the snow overnight. Is Alaska snow-free at this time of the year ?
The reviews for this website were relatively good. Except there is practically no warranty, so I'm taking a gamble, trusting the Samsung brand.

Hey mate, I was skeptical about TobyDeals since the reviews for it were terrible, but saw a few people on Whirlpool who made the jump and received it.
I took the jump as well last Thursday and ordered the Wifi-only one for 322$, decent price considering Kogan were selling it for 399$.
Got email notifications from TobyDeals every single day regarding the order, and was dispatched on Friday.
Just received the parcel today, haven't opened it yet since I'm at work but will do when I get home.
I can feel that it is decently bubble-wrapped inside the parcel.
That's really fast shipping, way quicker than most sellers on AliExpress. Very impressed so far. Will definitely look into buying from them again, their price include GST and are really competitive.
AliExpress you now have to pay GST on top of the advertised price...
I reckon you'll have yours on Friday/Monday, if Toll Express doesn't stuff you around. I've had some shockers with them haha...
Will update you as soon as I open it
> the Wifi-only one for 322$ <
The LTE difference was less than $50, so I ordered the one with a SIM card. I don't intend to use it a lot outside the home, but I shall see. Perhaps I'll have a $10 Boost SIM in it for those rare occasions when I take it outside.

OP7T Pro consumer theory

This is just my personal opinion, but I feel like OnePlus is just now testing the waters with their consumers now that they're out in the open. The 7T pro's extreme similarities and marginal upgrades as compared to the other models released this year just doesn't make logical sense for the price points. I think it's simply a consumer experiment made intentionally by OnePlus just to "feel out" where they're at with their customers. If a lot of people pay for "something new" with minimal changes, OnePlus knows how to tweak their sales scheme to target the flagship industry. My advice to everyone would be to hold off, don't spend money on the 7T pro and just go with the 7T. If you want to keep OnePlus 8 sales prices down I would highly suggest this.
OnePlus will likely keep coming with future pro models, but I feel like it's a bit early in the game and highly unlikely that they will continue to manufacture 4 models a year. So what you don't want to do is go buy the 7T Pro, show them that you're willing to pay that much more for marginal improvements and then give them the green light to go full blown with the ridiculous priced flagship OEMs. What you want to happen is for the Pro variants to be just as good as the 7 generation were. What you don't want to happen is for OnePlus to realize how impulsive people can be and then they skimp on the regular (8) and T (8T) models so that they can wait to pack all major upgrades into one 1100 dollar phone. Ideally you want 3 releases, the regular model (#), the T model (#T) and the Pro model and you want the price points pretty much where they fall with the current 7 generation with the exception of the 7T pro. I think it would be very smart to not buy the 7T pro.
I bought the 7T Pro at the pop-up event and I'm truely loving it. I was already in love with the 7 Pro because of it's display, but did not get it because I had just bought the 6T few months earlier in January. I decided I'd rather wait 6 months and see what the 7T Pro would end up like. I'm a big OnePlus fan since the very beginning, being one of the first few to get a OnePlus One. So I already knew that waiting for the upgraded T-model was most often worth it.
Off course while watching the launch event live I got really disappointed to finally find out I waited 6 months for no noticable changes. (Something I'm not used to from OnePlus, knowing them since, and owning one of the first, OnePlus One.) And that compared to the 7T, the only NOTICABLE difference that's ''Pro'' is an edge-to-edge display wich will cost you €160 extra.
But coming from a 6T, as soon as I finally got the 7T Pro and used it for some time, that disappointment was quickly forgotten.
I think the only people who will buy the 7T Pro are either: -really loving the edge-to-edge display
-smartphone/Android enthusiasts
-power users
-not informed about the minor differences with the 7T, thinking ''the more it costs, the better it is''.
-Well aware of the differences and still want to pay extra for whatever personal reason I couldn't think off.
But the average consumer finds that €599 for the 7T is already expensive enough for a phone and won't even think about paying €160 extra for the Pro model.
But.. I want a 1100 dollar device with EVERYTHING.. I picked a OnePlus phone because of software, not price.
Enjoy your new toy!
I don't know if it's different in other countries, but here in Germany the 7T is only available with 128GB and not with 256GB like the 7T Pro. For me these additional 128GB ARE another NOTICIBLE difference between 7T and 7T Pro. And when I look at other brands like for example Apple, they charge 100€ extra for REALLY just additional 128GB in the iPhone 11. So compared to this offer the 160€ for 256GB instead of 128GB, notch-less design, higher resolution screen, bigger battery etc. are not a really bad offer.
Yes, the 7T is a great phone with a nice price, but in my opinion the 7T Pro is too!

This is my primary reason. Never will own a phone with a notch. Maybe US will get the Pro. OP is playing games with network exclusivity.
Yep, I left Pixels because of their big ridiculous notches & bezels!
I'm waiting for McLaren edition and already pre-ordered, and 7T Pro is first phone which i'd like to buy since my Nexus 6 in 2014, so that theory with sales, i'll pass it, OP 8 on leaked photos have punch hole, that's a big nono for me, and i has OP7 Pro hands-on for couple hours and really like it, so i think you must listen to your heart and if you found your eyecandy, go with it!

Well keep in mind another potential future candidate will be (being that OnePlus continues to buy displays from Samsung) the under display camera that is now being marketed to come possibly with the Galaxy S11. Of course that probably means two more generations away for OnePlus, but that's the candy.

I can be wrong, but read somewhere that S11 will still have punch hole, and nextgen in 2021-2022 will be totally without bezels. And to be honest, i'm not excited about phones nowadays, back in time i was absolutely crazy about any bleeding edge feature in every phone/electronics, in 2019/2020 phone is utility, but mclaren is at least beautiful with this accents and carbon/alcantara instead psychodelic samsung back (b!#ch please), and apple unisex "must like everyone" boring design not for me

I think Google is 1.5 years behind the market and I still do not understand why people still buy Pixels. They are like a left behind iPhone basically.
I would just fire Pixel's design team and start anew.

True, they only have one release a year, so always behind. They have a different one making the phone every year, so always 1st generation!
The real issue is people buying phones every year / 6 months.
I've bought the 7T Pro on Tuesday and is my fourth android phone since 2010, upgraded from a Moto X Style from 2015 running Lineage 16.
The borderless and notchless display is great although I'm not really a fan of curved edges but hey, it was either this or the Mi 9T Pro / Redmi K20 Pro.
I didn't go for the 7T because of the notch (I hate notches) and the back camera module is not pleasant to see.
I've seen the leaks of OP8 and punch hole cameras are not my thing.
I think launching devices twice a year just makes the early buyers frustrated and they add nothing new, actually It's getting quite difficult to add new hardware features to these devices and some of them are niche things that most people will use for 5 minutes and that it.
In the end people just tend to want the latest thing even if it brings nothing new, unfortunately, just look at the iPhone, good performance but the "new" features are things android had for years, yet people still buy them like bread.

true, its only the aesthetics for the mclaren and i waited for black friday to catch it, else for the price tag i would have got any of the high end OEMs in the market
OP used to have decent price range which is not the case anymore, its a shame.

I ordered a Oneplus 7T Pro when I saw the first pictures of the coming OP8 with punch-hole. I don´t like it either. I was coming from a Oneplus 5T, so I don´t change the phone every year. I think the big camera module on the 7T will make the phone less durable.

@kadopt
I just got the 7T pro too when I saw the 8. I'm upgrading from a 3T. Everything is great, but the curved screen is bothering me so much I'm considering returning it and sticking to my op3t even though it's 4 years old. The glare I can work around, but it distorts the image at edges, how do you live with that? Most display reviews barely mention it. I'm really on the fence about this, not sure what to do. Can't find a phone exactly like the 7T Pro but with a flat display. Does anyone have any alternatives they could recommend?
@anupritaisno1 and @Nezorflame you both went from a 3 to a 7 pro too right? Any thoughts?
All these gimmicks, punch hole, notch, curved.. sigh just give me a flat normal display. @nvertigo67 @BillGoss any thoughts on newer phones or curved edges? I read your post from a while ago on keeping your op3 billgoss. I've been on NLOS 16 and LOS 17 for too long to settle with OOS (although it's usable), but luckily there seem to be fastboot flashable ROMs even though a working TWRP isn't available yet for all the Android 10 changes like dynamic partitions.
The only other thing about the hardware that bothered me was no headphone jack, but I got the bullets wireless v2 for free with the phone. As for software, by far the most annoying issue is the back gesture which interferes with pulling out the sidebar. Not to mention most videos don't even use the full display.
As for the durability of the camera module, I think moving parts (pop up camera on the 7T pro) over the size seems more likely to fail sooner, in theory. Although apparently OP tested it and rates it for 300,000 cycles.
@knpk13 hello there.
To be honest with you, I'm really OK with the curved edges (I've owned Samsung Galaxy S6 edge before, so it's not my first curved display) and don't mind the slight distortion (which I actually don't notice much when looking at the display).
Since I own the 7 Pro, I have 100% of the screen for myself, combined with the fullscreen gestures it's an absolute beauty. I like the motorized camera solution as well, and since I absolutely despise the cutouts, it's my only option. I barely use the front-facing camera at all, would actually prefer to have a phone without a front-facing camera at all, but alas
So in terms of the display I can't complain.

Hm, I guess it's my first curved display and it the distortion really stood out. I'll give it a few more days. As for the camera module, I'm actually happy with this solution, I was replying to the person I quoted. I don't use the front camera much either, so as long as it lasts a few years I'm ok with it.

My views on new phones are:
- flagships are way too expensive. My 3T is about half the price on the 7T Pro. So I'm expecting to go with a mid-range phone for my next one (hopefully still a few years away)
- I don't have any issues with bezels. Esthetically a bezel-less screen is appealing, but functionally it's not significant (remember, these are my personal views)
- I don't like the size of the newer phones - too tall and too narrow. My sweet spot is between 5" and 6" and I like 16:9. I read a lot and prefer a format that is book-like.
- I don't see the point of curved screens. After all, I hold the phone by its sides and I don't want that to register as a screen touch. Go flat screens!
- And my key requirement is that I must be able to run a custom rom (I prefer LineageOS) because that significantly increases the life of security patching and Android updates. Vendors rarely go past 2 years support.
At this point I have no idea what phone I'd buy if my 3T died.

I know right? I like the 3T a lot. Didn't even want a new phone; wanted a tablet (very helpful for my sheet music and multimedia consumption and reading; I barely use any actual "phone" features) but couldn't really find any good ones other than apple or Samsung which are both really locked down. So I went for the biggest phone screen I could find. The 7T pro is somewhat usable for sheet music so I'm glad about that.
I was considering the Redmi K20 Pro (its called the Mi 9T Pro globally), Asus ROG 2, and the regular OP7T, all of which are around 40% cheaper than the OP7T Pro in my current region. The funny thing is in my region the 7T pro is still half the price of any Samsung or apple flagship lol. Was a nightmare to choose. As of right now, I think those are the devices that are closest to what you want. (The Asus should have custom ROMs soon as I heard Android 10 source just came out and devices just got sent to devs heard)
You could consider the Asus Zenfone 6 too I think. I do hope a nice flat screen device (no notch, hole, curves or anything) comes out soon; Sony might be the only hope. About accidental palm touches on the curved edges, I've actually never had any issue with that at all (it's not an extreme waterfall display unlike some other devices). No touch issues, just mostly miffed by the image distortion, and a little by the glare.
Edit: after using some of my heavier applications on the 7T Pro, I noticed that it uses around 6 of the 8gb of ram and keeps apps in memory and everything runs smoothly. My 3T barely uses 2 of 6gb and doesn't keep apps in memory, weird.

Question Who's Going To Upgraded?

Based on some fairly reliable sources we're getting a clearer picture of changes planned for the S22 Ultra. It's morphing into a Note like offering with a dedicated S-Pen slot and a more squared body. Samsung won't be releasing a Note 21 and why should they? Display and battery size are reduced, cameras have some minor upgrades and possibly vapor cooling. The other noticeable difference is the Exynos SoC which will pair with AMD for superior graphics processing even though benchmarks are comparable to the Snapdragon 888. It's still a wait and see since the rollout is anticipated in January or February 2022 but if these projections prove accurate I'll pass on S22. Not a fan of S-Pen or the boxed styling and beyond these there isn't enough game changing innovation to consider making a change.

That display looks horrible... bad artist or bad Samsung?
Meh just bought a second new N10+ running Q.
It's color rendering exceeds some of the newer displays and is a proven workhorse that's fun to use.
Android R and above are rotten Apples
Samsung's track record since the 10+ has been subpar. I'll likely wait 2 or more years before switching platforms.
I don't have the patience for Android's and Samsung's bs. Too late, too slow and the wrong moves, you lose.
Meanwhile I'm quit happy with my little 10+ family. Lol, I'm still exploring them. My oldest 10+ is 2 years old, has had 1 replacement battery, looks and runs like it's new. It's OS load is almost 1.5 years old, still running fast and stable with minimal maintenance.
I don't use the spen a lot but it nests away painlessly when not in use. The bt remote shutter release and Smart Select are excellent when you need them.
So yeah, I like the spen.
There are still a few new unlocked Note 10+'s 256gb/12gb ram Snapdragon/Q variants out there. Grab one up if you want one... they be sweet.
No upgrade for me, the S21 Ultra is very similar to my S20 Ultra, not worth the upgrade IMHO. That rendering looks hideous, and the specs being mentioned so far are not worth an upgrade.

1.5 years This phone gets heavy usage. Next one may replaced sooner to avoid another failure. I was lucky the display wasn't damaged.
Battery replacement is fairly easy.
Otherwise nothing failed or broke. Display looks as good as the new one and both are perfect.
No complaints on the 10+.
Not this time. I don't think phones are making that big a leap now with regards to upgrading. I did from the s20+ to the s21 ultra and to be honest whilst the ultras great I really don't need better
Battery reduced?
But not to worry we've given you a faster charger.

Update - Charging speed for all models stays at 25W. Here's my take, unless you trade-in your device or accept a long term contract with a service provider you'll drop a significant bundle of $$$ to "upgrade" for a device which in many aspects isn't any better than the S21. I will definitely pass on the S22 and if Samsung doesn't get it's act together I'll downgrade to a much better value in the A72 or S22 FE. So you'll lose a more powerful chipset and some camera options but for about half the price you'll get most of the bells and whistles plus the MicroSD and 3.5 Jack. I really question the VALUE aspect in not only the S22 but the Fold 3 as well, it just doesn't stack up.
I'm on the otherside with the S-pen, I was on the fence going from the S20u to S21u, and after doing a camera review for youtube, I was debating returning it because it's essentially the identical phone with the reduction of microSD, but the though of using an S-pen gets rid of many note books I have laying around.
Now, to date, I still haven't purchased the S-pen because I got the silver phone and the only case they offered with the S-pen was black and covers the entire camera area, which defeats the purpose of getting the silver phone when the entire thing ends up being black anyway.
They now have aftermarket S-pen cases and one of which is clear so I can still visibly see the silver phone. It's been in my Amazon cart for awhile now but the renders of this S22 with the S-pen integrated are stopping me from hitting the checkout button when I could just wait it out and it's included with the phone lol
I was just going to buy the S-pen Pro but after seeing the price tag on that thing, I'll stick to a hoard of notebooks and pens. I take a lot of notes, and I'm going to assume that over the last 10 years, I haven't spent as much on notebooks and pens as the price of that stupid S-pen Pro.. it's.. literally insane lol

I'll be upgrading to a different device. And I can't wait! My S21U has been quite a let down as it has always had some odd issues that seem to be software based... But since those issues also occur after a full device wipe and Android reinstallation, I'm starting to assume that there were a bunch of manufacturing issues with this phone... And with the Samsung devices I have bought in the past, I've always gotten unlucky. Goodbye, folks

Samsung at their half baked finest
Meh, the N10+ blows it away with a completely self contained, fully functional spen.
I bought my 2nd new N10+ 2 weeks ago. No regrets... these buggers look gorgeous and run great. Running on P and Q; there will be no downgrade to R for me.
I use the spen mostly as a remote shutter release and for Smart Capture. Otherwise it hides safely out of sight.
Both Android and Samsung have lost their way... really badly, but like a drunk lost in the desert they have high hopes.

New ones are very hard to find now even stateside.
A lot of scams going on now too; be careful.
As for warranty I wouldn't be too concerned as the 10+'s tend to be very reliable with an excellent build, they are rocks. Just test the hell out of it including a ScreenTest. It should do fine.
PM if you want that stateside dealer. It's the US unlocked variant running on Q. Unless you want to root it's the more desirable variant; all the Snapdragon variants use the vapor/copper heat sink, none have the graphene one.

Talk to the vendor, they ship FedEx stateside for free. Not sure about customs etc for offshore.
Make sure it's compatible with your carrier.
I have AT&T, put the sim card in and it was good to go. Sent you a link via PM.

General Pixel 7 display size rumors

Rumors say that the Google Pixel 7 (non-pro) will have a 6.2" display. The Pixel 6 has a 6.4" display.
What do you prefer, and do you think the rumors are true?
I would prefer 6.5" for the non-pro version, and I had a Pixel 6 with 6.4
which was OKish for me (sold the Pixel 6 after 2x RMA and many software bugs).
Right now I got a Realme GT 2 Pro with 6.7" which is quite nice to have for media.
If I wanted 6.7" I would have to go for the Pixel 7 Pro I guess, but I hate curved displays like hell.
The 6.2" of the non-pro version - if it is true - would be a bit too small for me.
I hope it's just a rumor that came up by the size of the cases that are available yet (?) ...
Maybe the bezels are just smaller, a more compact body and the display has still 6.4" or even more?
Or do you think Google wanted to serve people who like smaller displays?
Personally I would prefer a 5.8", keep the bigger sizes on the pro so those of us that want a phone and not a tablet in our pocket can have that.
6.2 is a good size. The OnePlus 6 was 6.2 and damn did I absolutely love that phone. The real question is: will we get an ultrasonic FP sensor, or continue to get the trash they used in the 6 lineup?
Yes, maybe 6.2" is a good size. Sometimes I love the big 6.7" screen of the Realme GT 2 Pro (which is flat, no curved edge crap). But sometimes I guess a little more compact device would be neat too. I remember back in the days when I got my first 5.5" device (I guess it was some Redmi) and it felt so huge. Regarding the FP @XNine - on the Pixel 6 it really was a PITA sometimes or rather often, I got you.
The only chance of me getting this phone is if it is 6.4" or larger. If Google does a smaller screen on the 7 and another curved screen on the 7 Pro, I guess OnePlus is going to get more business from me or at a minimum I'll just keep my OnePlus 9. Even the 6.55" screen on my OP9 is too small...

The OnePlus 9 was a real bummer for me. They did not give the device OIS for the camera, just to upsell the 9 Pro, which is a real d*** move. BBK/Oppo will slowly ruin OnePlus, and so after having a OnePlus 9 too I will not buy their stuff again. BBK that is Oppo, Vivo, OnePlus, Realme and iQOO will continue to have a mushy bulk of devices for every price range that floods the market with all of them having the color OS ROM base - the concept reminds me of Xiaomi with MIUI (and the days in which Xiaomi was cool are gone for quite some years now).
If the Pixel 7 really has 6.2" I don't know if I will buy one. 6.4" would be OKish, 6.5" better - but rumors say that the Pro will have 6.57" so it's most unlikely that the non-pro model will have 6.5". If the Pixel 7 will have only 6.2" and 90Hz... well that's kind of lame and I'll have to see what I'll buy. I'm a bit torn back and forth regarding that.

Well if this is the case, Google will continue to not get my business. This trendy thing of curved screens is bull**** and I won't support it.
As for OnePlus, I like my 9. The cameras aren't the best but I knew that going into it. Rooted OOS12 C.48 is a pretty great experience for me other than the intentional CPU throttling being extremely noticeable in the browser (but fine everywhere else). The only options for me are OnePlus, Google Pixel, and iPhone, because I refuse to buy an Android phone that I a) can't use on every US carrier and b) can't unlock the bootloader on. I will absolutely go back to iPhone before I'll buy a curved screen.
I will stick to pixel 5 if i have to have another phone that pulls down my clothes everytime i put it in my pocket
If i want a large screen ill go to my tablet/laptop

Pulls down your clothes??????
Where do you buy your clothes, OshKosh B'Gosh?!
The 6 is perfectly sized and the 7 looks great with that still-unseen flat screen. It'll be phone of the year if it's priced like the 6, fixes the modem issues, and fixes the fingerprint reader. 13 Beta 2.1 has been good for both issues, but this is 6 months after release. If you have the 6 on JOD through T-Mobile, the 7 will likely be a free trade-in.
I also need to second those complaints about the OnePlus 9. No OIS and a plastic frame. Would've been a downgrade from my 8T. There is still no proper successor to the 8T because the 9T and regular 10 don't exist. OnePlus has quickly descended into garbage.

I get what you mean about the phone pulling down your pants. I am with you. The 6a's 6.1 screen is right at my limit. At least phone sizes are trending in the right direction.
Why are big phone fans so egoistic? Cannot they understand that other people, however few they might be might have other preferences that are as valid as anyone else's?
I want 4.5 inch screen (with thin bezels). I am daily using 4 inch screen (with bezels), and have on order a 5 inch screen (with thin bezels). I wanted the 6a, but even a 4a is not small for me. If there is no small Pixel, and there is no and there won't be, at this point I am getting the Pixel tablet, to which when compared, makes the 6 Pro screen size frustratingly tiny and unusable.

"Small" smartphones are no longer in demand for the vast majority of people.
There are several reasons for this, the main ones being gaming and viewing.
Large, borderless screens are good for gaming and watching videos or movies. Hence the curved screens.
The ideal size for a smartphone is between 5'8 and 6'4, although my next smartphone should be the Pixel 7 Pro (6'7).
I'm sorry to say, but 4,5 is no longer a commercial standard. This is not being selfish but a reality that manufacturers have been slowly bringing about.
Don't people have anything better to do than videos and gaming? Apparently not....

2 posts in this thread from you. Both judgy biased nonsense.
I'd love it to be like the Pixel 5, great device - love it.
P6a is very close at 6.1" -- I think that would be nice, but I'm thinking P7 will end up being 6.3" maybe 6.2" which will take some adjusting. -- My first tablet was 7"....
I'd like the Pixel 7 mini to come true. Depending on just how "mini", I'd probably be all over it.

The 6 has 6.4", the 7 will have 6.2" (that's what all the leaks say) ... really thinking about getting a 7 to have that great Pixel camera experience again. My Realme GT2 pro has 6.7" and it's great for watching YT in bed at night, but damn it sure feels huge sometimes trying to use it with one hand. Pixel 7 pro would be nice too, but it'll be way too expensive for me and I f* hate curved displays. Vendors of the world, wake up! Get rid of the curved display crap concept. *g*

Pixel cameras are amazing, the Pixel 5 still has a great camera. (I actually just replaced the glass on it finally! I had tape over it, very angry that it somehow broke without my ever dropping it! Found glass on Amazon for under $10. Was extremely easy to apply it. Took me maybe 30 minutes total to get that old glass off. So wish I had fixed it sooner.)
I think at 6.2" could be a real good incentive for me to really consider it, unless a Pixel 7 Mini get confirmed as I could actually see myself on like a 4.8" device, but we'll see! My Pixel 5 still feels snappy enough. I'm happy on A12L. Wish A13 could be modified in ways like A12L, it's unfortunate as I like custom MODs like Tulsadriver's removal of the search bar on the stock Pixel Launcher. (it just feels smoother to me than custom launchers. Always has been this way, could be a placebo, but I also do keep it at 60Hz most of the time to conserve battery.
And I agree man I just don't understand these curved displays! They are horrible!
I don't love the bezels on the Pixel 6 compared to say, Pixel 5. I'm presuming the P7 will have the same look, but oh well. I just hope the bugs are ironed out, and we aren't beta testing. The P6/P6P was just sad to see the amount of issues like with the modem for example. I for one liked Qualcomm processors.. but if in-house can bring down the price, then awesome.

My Pixel 6 well... I really thought Google must be kidding me. That buggy thing was not acceptable for me.

Yeah no curved displays for this guy... And seeing how Samsung isn't even using their own SoCs and modem in the S23 series at all, I have no faith that things will be any better with the Tensor G2 (especially since it still uses older cores) or the Shannon 5300B modem.
